As a player that only gets to log in during a specific time due to work and other real life commitments I feel that non-prime players are being punished for not being able to log in during the NA prime hours.

Even people that live in Europe/NA aren’t always able to get on at times like that. The world bosses end at 7pm GMT, while most players I know only log in at hours like 8-9-10 pm GMT because that is the only time of the day we can log.

@Anet: Please understand… we like to play the game too, and it’s really bad to restrict bosses to 3 hours over 24 hours, while most players only have 1-2 hours out of 24 they can dedicate to playing. That means most have 0% chance to participate in bosses ever.

WvW & Ascended Weapons/Armor [merged]

But an exotic weapon being better than a rare is O.K.?

This argument is asinine. A.net’s only mistake was not having Ascended in at launch. I for one am grateful that they recognized the need for it, as exotics are stupid-easy to get. Something more was needed and ascended was it.

It’s only a treadmill if they keep adding tiers afterwards, which they never will. They’re filling a gap, rightfully so.

An Exotic weapon costs 1-5 gold at max.

An Ascended weapon costs 260g at min.

Exotic can be better than rare, because it’s pretty easy to get. Do 1-2 dungeons and you have your exotic. Or if you’re a WvW player like me, 1 day earns me 2-5g depending on what I do.

Ascended are just outrageous.

The go and play something else, Sirendor. Nobody’s forcing you to play a game you seem to hate so much.

The thing is, I don’t hate this game. I hate what they did to it. The reason why I can’t go for another game is that none are able to beat Guild Wars 2, exactly because of this:

But on the positive side, I still love the combat mechanics (playing an ele at least), it feels fluid and responsive, more so than any other MMO I’ve played. I like the graphics, and it keeps me coming back for the moment. PvP is still fun (even though ele is a bit weak and I think condition spamming is far too easy and skill-less). WvW is fun when there aren’t blobs (huge zergs) everywhere.

The combat is so smooth, better than I ever have experienced it anywhere. The graphics are amazing. The lore is a continuation of GW1, which was a splendid game.

There isn’t any game able to match it, but the mechanics… oh the mechanics. Really A-net needs a limit on zergs for both PvE and WvW. I don’t mind running with a 20-man guild group in WvW because it’s still somewhat tactical and not just auto-attacking and the lagg is bearable at 20v20. Anything that goes above 40v40 is sheer madness.

  • There are confirmed users constantly getting precursors, expensive items & Ascended chests. For this happening, it has a multiper less chance than winning RL lottery.
  • My consequences: RNG is broken, and Accounts somehow go “lucky” or “unlucky” on creation. I’m investigating the connections…

That’s not how accounts work.
There is a database. For it to be a difference between accounts there would have to be a “luck” value with either a number (percentage) or just an on/off. Do you really think the devs would even add that? What would be the purpose?

RNG is RNG. People try to find a logic behind it when they’re unlucky. There is no logic, just RNG. And that’s why people are complaining. They can work their kitten off for months and never get lucky at the forge and be forced to buy their precursor. And to me and a lot of people, buying a precursor isn’t “legendary” at all.

Conclusion: it’s still Anet’s fault. They should have given us a legendary scavenger hunt instead of a pointless grind. No RNG, no grind, no buyable precursors.

I get your point. I suggest something else though: make a trial. I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t be happy if they changed the game to f2p right now when they paid £50 in the beginning. Just make a trial allowing you to play for 24 hours like it was in gw1

Oh and to avoid bots: IP-detect or something like that, or give keys out to mmo sites and make sure they come to the people who need them. Better yet: make a small zone that is exclusively for the trial members. A zone where the trial members don’t get an option to use the trade or the mailing system.

Yep. Ascended are totally messed up for multi-character players. Fractals are not at all worth it to play either, cause they require you to start over again and again. Ranks in WvW are characterbound, so takes forever to get a decent rank on any character etc.

conclusion: Anet doesn’t like alts.

Kinda long post but a good read. It be nice if Arena net dig into their past lore and resurrect this central part of GW1 as a new class.

Seeing as there’s 3 adventurers 3 scholars a new soldier to finish the trios would be a logical next step.

Hoping arena net takes something from this post and make some awesome.

I agree with that. Three from each armor class makes sense. I’d like to see a third Heavy profession. This class seems like a reasonable one. And I love GW1, so past lore would be amazing.

It does make sense, and I would love to fight bare-handed.

  • First the GvG arena: Hooray!
  • Account-bound fractal level: Hooray!
  • Then they delete the cultural armour from gem store: Hooray!
  • Then they decide to make WXP accountbound? Hooray!

The only thing we need now is account-bound ascended gear (swappable between light, med and heavy? :o).

Hey diablos, my guild is on Gandara. It’s called The Old Boys. We are a casual PvX (anything) guild with 60+ active members and 10-30 online most of the time.
We are a adult community, where everyone is respected, and every member’s input is as valuable to us as the input of the officers/leader.

Edge of the Mists match up system

This bring fun back in www. There will be less blobbing because everybody isn’t in same TS or at least blobs are much less organized so smaller guilds can have fun too.

Most of the map is karma trains, sadly. It’s not really that interesting as far as I’m concerned.

Karma train drops loot just like other trains.

Yet they are not fun. They just blob under a commander, and the enemy sides aswell. There wasn’t a lot of space for organized small groups, because they either got blobbed themselves, or had nothing to do because most of the objectives are ment for 20+ people.

“you lose out” isn’t acceptable. Its a design flaw.

It’s not a design flaw. It’s part of the game.

It’s no different than having to spend 5x more or go through a much harder route to get the best items in game.

If everything were to easy to acquire in a game, then what’s the point?

It is a design flaw, because it encourages ‘farming’ and farming isn’t playing the game, it’s doing a job.

Examples:

“Want that cool new gs skin?”
>> Go farming champions for a week!

“Can’t farm champions enough?”
>> Prices rise and you have to farm for 2 weeks. Wait another week and you’ll have to farm 3 weeks.

“Want to actually enjoy the game, doing a dungeon or some WvW/sPvP?”
>> Bad luck for you, you NEED to farm and grind!

Or why not implement for e.g 5 more skills for each weapon per class so we can actually construct more builds by swapping out weapon skills aswell rather than just the weapon.

I agree.

Give 1-5 alternatives and let us swap them independently. Why can’t I bleed with a greatsword on mesmer? I like the greatsword animations a lot more than staff. Give us viable alternatives.

Also nerfing is not ever the way. Buffing is. If some class is too strong, buff the others. If warrior has a ton of raw damage, give it to the other classes too, because raw damage is the most useful in this game (Yes I wrote a post about the low level of healing, tanking and other support).

OPEN WORLD PLAYER BUILDING

  • Allow us to customize PvE zones:
    - Herboreal Mastery: Allow us to gather seeds from existing trees and plant new ones in areas where it’s possible for them to grow: variety! Special zones & climates > Special trees. Seeds will drop from specific trees, aka. Ancient Trees, that are permanent (not able to cut them down) and player-planted trees, that are not permanent. You’ll have to go out in the world and gather seeds yourself!
    [Trees will sprout from the ground without players aswell, by chance]
    - Deadwood Mastery: Allow us to cut down player-planted trees on a limited scale (say 1 tree/account/day): trees should give a realistic and big mass of wood. If you cut down a tree planted by someone else, you have to pay that person with seeds from that tree. It is possible to scavenge, but there will be a prize on your head if you do, so be wary thieves!
    - Delving Mastery. Allow us to delve for ‘metals’ (not compared to the ore gathering we have now) in special spots per zone that are rich with ore. You can find spots that are able to be delved (destructible earth) with an ability.
    - Stonegrowth Mastery: Stimulate existing mines to produce more rich metals. This involves dwarven and alchemic rituals. [Ores will be produced by mines without players too, by natural processes]
    - Construction Mastery: Use materials you gather: different kinds of wood, different kinds of metal, rock and earthly materials to build something in the world, also in pre-restricted areas that have stable foundations etc etc.
  • All the materials for these masteries should be accountbound and gathered through exploring the world yourself. It is possible to build things in group.
  • The beauty of the idea: despite it being restricted to certain areas, everyone will have their shot at all these masteries. Constructions will decay from weather, atmosphere and occasionaly a storm or a monster invasion. They will be damage-able, but not by other players, UNLESS you decide to build in WvW… The need will always be there to explore and master your crafts. You might need a group of people in order to build one house, or be a very dedicated solo player. (it’s possible to build a guild house, or to gain dominance in a city as a guild).
  • Adding affiliation in the mix: npcs such as refugees (Frost & Flame) can be convinced to build their own homes around existing player structures, by helping them with heart quests and somesuch.
  • The world will become truly dynamic, with NPC’s on the move! This means existing settlements can be abandoned, take Fort Salma in Kessex Hills. NPC’s will migrate and hearts will too! Enemy NPC’s will be able to destroy those existing settlements and change zones with enermous expansion, if nobody stops them.

EDIT: To differ the general principle of these mechanics, it shouldn’t be like a generic ‘kill and gather’ sort of thing:

  • Woodcutting could mean… climbing, with risks involved (O_O)
  • Delving could mean… exploring underground (also climbing).
  • Different classes could also get different ways to gather these resources:
    - Would you like to shoot an arrow up to a tree branch, tug it and test it’s strength and pull yourself up at risk of breaking the branch or wrenching your hooked arrow loose, as a ranger?
    - Would you enjoy dropping a couple of bombs on top of the tree and time-racing to get out of the tree before it explodes, as an engineer?

This really opens up a LOT of possibilities for adventure, challenge and fun!

World vs. World lack of dev attention

As a WvW player I’m concerned with the lack of attention directed to this part of the game from the side of the developers.
At this time, we don’t see any attention directed to WvW, nor any patches or updates. We had a ‘fall tournament’ that featured a bunch of achievements with as a reward the same skins from the last tournament.

It’s as if WvW is just not worth the time and money to Arenanet. I can say for 99% of the WvW base that this is very disappointing.

If you’re the 1% I didn’t talk for, i’m okay with you disagreeing. I do not count EotM as a part of World vs. World. That’s a pve/pvd champion karmatrain.


Long story short: WvW has serious problems (coverage, population, rewards, player vs. door, lack of guild content etc), and it’s hardly amusing for us to wait for fixes, two years and counting.

Would be really grateful if someone of arenanet gave us an update.

Maybe because else his idea gets lost into a rage thread? Think before you speak, man.

On the topic. I was quite thankful for the reward (the fact that there is one). I mean, we’ve been playing wvw for over a year without rewards. Now we get rewards and people complain (I’m thinking the ones complaining are PvE people who only farmed achievements). A nice skin would have been appreciated though.

However: thank you Devon for doing such a great job with WvW. It took some time to get decisions going, but now they are coming and those of us who play WvW only are happy.

And I’m going to make a thank you thread.

Reasons why I stopped playing WvW:

  1. Balance: there’s no balance between servers and the match-up system is flawed (coverage is king).
  2. Boredom: no new “WvW” (no EotM) maps or other content additions, siege weapons are still the same, objectives are still working the same etc… it’s boring
  3. Guild content: while promised in the launch of the game, WvW saw no guild-based additions. Capturing keeps/towers means nothing, because flipping them is so easy and guilds can’t customize anything.
  4. Zergs: require zero strategy and very little skill, yet they are promoted by the game: more tagging, more loot. Coordinated players can take on these zergs, but it’s always a two-sided sword: become a zerg or be killed by one.
  5. Loot: loot is abysmal compared to other game modes, ’nuff said
  6. Roaming: while one of the most challenging areas of this game, there’s just not enough support in-game for it.

My idea from VOLKON’s Thread:

What about a legendary quest?

  • You start of with an exotic weapon of choice: a greatsword, a sword, a longbow, maybe a staff… basically anything. Important: you can choose a beginner skin you like for it too.
  • Now, you embark on a dangerous journey… something similar to the GW1 storylines, cause I absolutely adored them. Every time you get the choice between a couple of things, and your choice affects what happens to your weapon: each time you get a new component after completing a story instance, you can add it to your weapon, modifying the skin slightly and making it more legendary by the step.
  • When you’re halfway, your weapon can be upgraded to ascended level, you have reached The Source of Ascension.
  • At the end of the epic storyline, your weapon becomes legendary and gets a new name, fitting to the adventures you have completed with it.

How about we actually ban all elites from ranked? Suddenly pvp is so much more fun!

Or tactfully nerfing all elite specs to bring them online with core specs so there is diversity and more appeal to pvp. Than the bullkitten going on now.

I think this is a lot more preferably, not kidding. In all seriousness, elite specs are what broke the tedious balance we had. At least previous meta was worth playing.

Is it fair to say that regarding Ascended Gear we would like to see more ways to earn it and in terms of drop rates, a higher percentage chance of acquiring them through this method?

I’m not interested in RNG. Please provide stable ‘complete-this’ lists, not random drops where one player gets 5 and another gets 0 in the same timespan.

Prices for ascended are ridiculous and they make the game worse: people on a competitive level (yes I mean WvW), need different armour sets and weapons sets.
I have 6 sets – used in 10+ different builds – on my guardian, ranging from pure dps to pure heal to pure condi to wall of steel to hit and run. Besides my guardian I have 4 more level 80 characters. Anyways, i’m sure you understand.

What we need is one of both options:
- Deleting ascended from all competitive content
- Allowing competitive players to collect 1 ascended set (all armour pieces & trinkets) in less than a normal week’s play (which would still mean I need 6 weeks to get all my gear on guardian, 2 weeks for my elementalist, 1 week for my thief, 3 weeks for my warrior, 2 weeks for my mesmer).

(or as VOLKON suggestion allow us to change our stats for a small fee – comparable to the retrait/repair cost- and make the acquisition period slightly longer).

The best thing we (I mean WvW players) could get, would be armour acquisition for WvW like it is in SPvP.

I want to wait until more info gets released, I have a review or 2 of people who actually played it, and I see the initial reaction among people that have same mindset as me. Also, price is a consideration..

I am interested in the new class, new wvw borderland but the rest doesn’t really speak to my imagination.. and I would really have thought more than 1 class and at least 1 race would have been added in a paid expansion.

Another of my ideas copy-pasted:

1- Make ‘armour’ seperated from classes: everyone can wear anything they want.

  • Each armour class gives a special bonus:
    - Medium armour: Agility, you are in your element in combat, making it harder to hit you (0-2-4-6-8-10% miss chance based on number of medium armour pieces).
    - Light armour: Wisdom, your affinity with magic creates magical defenses when you are in need (0-2-4-6-8-10% chance to reflect, based on number of light armour pieces).
    - Heavy armour: Dexterity, your armour protects you and you’re able to shrug off heavy damage (0-2-4-6-8-10% chance to block, based on number of heavy armour pieces).
  • Armour ratings: all the same, but the armour you equip will influence if you can shrug off blows, evade blows or mirror them back.

2- Stats are no longer bound to armour, but to your mood:

  • Gloomy: Condition damage, Toughness, Vitality.
  • Angry: Power, Precision, Critical Damage

  • … other combinations have other stats attached to them.

3- Every weapon is accessible to every class.

  • Based on your mood you get to choose from a number of possible weapon skills per weapon you pick.
  • The weapon skills will be complementary with the attributes you gain from mood.
  • Traits are associated with moods aswell. There are no more class-specific traits and no more weapon-specific traits.

This would allow for a looooot more variety and practically infinite number of ‘classes’. Want to be a mage in robes swinging a greatsword? Go for it! Want to be an assassin using a rifle? Do it!

Lol. In my opinion there shouldn’t even be a distinction between end-game and pre-end-game. Dynamic events are part of pre-end-game but they could actually be a great end-game part, if they enhanced them so they really did affect the world. More about this:

Lol. Isn’t what that jerk is saying about this: “WvW isn’t PvP at all, so now go SPvP”… if so then they should just delete WvW from the game and add PvP, because SPvP is point capping and not Player vs. Player.

Guild vs. Guild is about the only real PvP there is in this game.

[SUGGESTION]

Calculate server rewards based on population!! Servers with a very low WvW population get better rewards based on their score.

For example:
Vabbi has about 1/2 the numbers of the servers WSR and FoW.
Though we still have a score of 152.000, compared to WSR 167.000 and FoW 196.000.
Consequently the players on Vabbi have put in a lot of effort to fight back and get such a score. Reward that!

-delete elite specializations from the game. Instant reduction in aoe, sustain, passive bullkitten, and other op crap that was put in to make ppl buy HoT.

Pretty much… elite specs are 8/9 (berserker isn’t) an upgrade to the base class. They have too much of everything (sustain, dps, cc, aoe), so yes, either nerf elite specs all the way down to core level, or RIP balance.

Build variety, versatility and accessibility can easily increase the fun of playing through the game. Right now, certain traits that would be fun and great on many builds are out of reach because the stats that the line gives or because certain traits feel forced just to get to a later trait in that line.

Stats:

If the traits and stats were separated, the player would be able to choose the traits they want without being bound to stats that they don’t want – for example, critical damage on a condition build.

Players will be given a certain amount of stat points to put into the different stats available; there are 140 Stat Points available (at level 80). The maximum amount of Stat Points that may be used on a single stat is 30. Each stat point will grant the stat either +10 or 1%, depending on the stat.

  • +10: Power, Precision, Condition Damage, Healing Power, Toughness, Vitality
  • +1%: Critical Damage, Boon Duration, Condition Duration, Class Mechanic

Traits

The way traits are picked can be remade to be far better and more versatile; players should be given the ability to choose a certain amount of adept traits, master traits and grandmaster traits. Traits will not be locked into specific lines like Death Magic and Curses – instead, traits wanted by the player will be chosen from the total pool of traits available from that tier or below.

So, a character will be able to use 7 Adept Traits, 5 Master Traits and 3 Grandmaster Traits. Master Trait slots can also be filled with Adept traits, and Grandmaster trait slots can also be filled with Master or Adept traits. The exact number of traits per tier may be adjusted as necessary.

Trait and Stat Templates

Players should also be able to save a few templates of different stat sets and trait sets; the player should be able to buy Stat and Trait pages with either 25 skill points or 50 gems. There should be a maximum amount of Trait or Stat Templates available per character (likely around 10 or so).

It’s pretty clear they’re going to get rid of servers a la EoTM. They just won’t admit it at the moment in order to keep people from jumping ship right now to the new MMOs coming out.

With megaservers rendering servers obsolete in PvE, servers in WvW is going to be unsustainable — people won’t even know what WvW server they’re on.

The failed EoTM is the future of WvW.

EOTM isn’t a fail, its a very nice map with fun to capture objectives. The problem is that the colours do not mean anything and that it doesn’t affect the score. What they need to do is simple:
A guild should decide to be part of one of 3 alliances of guilds for WvW, they should keep the current match-up going but players should be able to guest on other WvW matchups representing the same side. Well anyway, this is what ESO has done and it works miracle.

I wish there were alliances with a MEANING and benefits for GUILDS. Both are lacking in this game. It’s a total letdown.

Most useless class in WvW?

Bull kitten. No class is better than any other. Yday we had a group of 5 people of our guild going: 2 thieves, 1 ele, 1 guardian and 1 engineer. We came upon countless groups of enemies (our size or bigger) and didn’t die once.

One fight was 2 necros, 1 warr, 1 guardian and 1 mesmer. Technically we should have lost, according to all those who are saying warriors, guardians and necros are “OP”. We stomped them all within 1 minute.

It’s ridiculous to come up with “Class x is better than class y.” because no class is better than another. Each has their own strategic elements and advantages, and each has it’s weaknesses.

Thieves have stealth something every group can use to surprise enemies (same goes for mesmers). Elementalists have huge aoe abilities. Guardians are decent as tanks. Warriors have a load of direct damage, but most of it melee. Necro is master of conditions, ranger has tank abilities through pet and so on and so forth.

Good players > Bad players, whatever the classes.
