In addition to what I wrote earlier I’d like to add in this:
- Scale loot with number of players: zergs are able to take down content extremely fast, tagging a ton of monsters and getting a lot of loot. Solo players or small groups can not do this as fast and consequently get less loot. Change this. Give non-zergers better rewards and zergers crap.
- Encourage the at this moment not profitable content such as map exploration, jumping puzzles, completing hearts by giving out unique items upon completion and an interesting story. I’ll come back to interesting stories later.
=> You are in a random area and see an asura npc running around asking for help to kill a legendary ooze. Upon killing it, you get a unique ooze miniature and a chance to apply that oozes colour to a weapon!
- Interesting events: one-time events!!! Arenanet should make it interesting for the player to be part of an event, by making the consequences on the world upon completing the event real consequences! My idea would be for example, a dynamic event in Plains of Ashford in which Ascalonian ghosts break free, and if nobody stops them… they will conquer. They won’t just stand around in the arena and do nothing, upon which a group of players comes and clears them out, resetting the event. No.
This is not what a dynamic event is, with all due respect to ArenaNet. No. A real dynamic event would be that the ghosts start killing players and turning them… making them an enemy. Potentially killing animals in the wild too. And after that… they destroy outposts. And by destroy, I really mean destroy. They kill npc’s, not so they get rezzed 20 minutes later, but they are killed. Their families may survive and new npc’s will come in their place. Houses and such can be destroyed aswell and after that npc’s can rebuild them in a random spot or players can help them and create something totally new.
and so the world lives. This is what arenanet was supposed to do. This is what they failed in. This is why we, the players, are dissapointed.
UPDATE from GW2 TWITTER
We are aware of and looking into the login issues that some are currently experiencing, thank you for your patience at this time. ^AT
Yep: thief has unload on dual pistols, warrior has volley on rifle… why don’t engineers have sequence attacks?
i remember you guys talking about endgame horizontal progression before maybe look at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIExN1GZK_Q
that lasted what 2 months? how long will anything from this cdi last? before you nerf it and promote gold farming for “economic reasons”given the treatment of the vertical component of this discussion where inconvenient commonly discussed points were flat out ignored, and the most common dev posts were a variation of “im really busy with the holidays will read/reply later” its clear this will be marginalized with a token feature and “we listened to your feedback” when you introduce more unpopular changes.
many of the proposals in this thread have been discussed again and again over the last year
and you guys are always reading the forum’s right?, so its not like its new information, you have not taken action so far, we should believe you will now why exactly? your track record isn’t exactly good at this point, its not even average.at this point i think this has degenerated into a PR exercise and you wont actually do anything substantial, so im no longer interested in taking you through game design basics you should already know.
Sadly this is how I see it at the moment. I do not feel this initiative is serious no matter how many times it is said to be taken serious. Simply because the actions do not reflect the words. Asking for a top 3 after 17 pages of ideas looks more like not wanting to go through it themselves and all that it accomplishes is rehashing the same old that has been talked about already without rhyme or reason.
Hi Shadow Blade and Conner,
The fruits of everyone’s hard work have already begun to show through, specifically in regard to the first CDI- Living World. The return on investment will take time to present itself due to the nature of game development.
However if you don’t feel like the initiative adds any value then you don’t need to partake in it.
Chris
I would like to comment on this: the living world seems to be taking some suggestions of players into account. For one the ‘impact’ discussion got driven home with the Nightmare Ends, which resulted in a PERMANENT change of the area. A step in the right direction for me. Thanks
→ Gauntlets
→ Twohanded Axe

Get a large group and go wipe the GvG groups. Done.
It’s freaking (for lack of a stronger word due to censor) rude to GvG on a queued map. Just unacceptable.
Lol- GvG is the most competitive form of PvP in the whole game.
I think they should add more end-game missions like they had in guild wars 1 Eye of the North. Especially the charr part was amazing there. Build on stuff like that.
When I stop caring about a game I usually stop reading the forums as well. One would think that it takes a non zero amount of care to log in and post to a thread about not caring. But what do I care?
Lol. Living story isn’t this whole game. I hate LS, I do not hate GW2. But, these patches do lessen my game experience.
Unhappy choice of words. I can see what you mean though. In guild play, when we PvP we ‘order’, but they aren’t really orders, they’re instructions. That’s a big difference.
Veteran members of the guild are in that position for a reason, namely because they have a combination of competence, leadership and friendliness (I really like to help people).
That makes it likely they will know something someone else doesn’t, and they can help those others by giving the right instructions, that will lead to success.
For that matter, I don’t care what a random guy with a blue dorito says to me, because I don’t know him and it takes about 3 days in PvE to get one of such. “Commanders” are either people who are really competent in leadership, or morons.
Well… Expecting and Wanting is something different.
I would want:
- New PvP game mode
- Accountbound WXP
- A new class/race
- A few new maps
- More engaging dungeons
- Combat templates
- Stats removed from gear
- Skin database
- Housing
- Guild Halls
I expect…:
- EoTM
- Accountbound WXP
- Maybe second PvP patch
- 2 blues and a green
If the latter is true… I’m armed with my EQN:L beta code.
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
So, I have no idea what to do at 80 now that I’ve hit max level.
Afking in LA. Most people do it. I hear it’s extreme fun playing this game… oh wait.
I wouldn’t call azurite crystals, sentinel’s inscriptions, food recipes and the like prestige gear.
If it’s a cosmetic item/memorabilia then sure. I can understand not bringing them back (personally I think all these sorts of items should be bound anyway and have the sort of prestige you can’t buy with gold but that’s another topic for another time) but it’d be nice to have the more generic items and consumables be brought back seeing as they can actually affect the game and the like.
Sentinel is one of the only armour sets I can use with one of my builds. It’s sad to see I can’t get them, because they cost 200g per piece… It’s the same reason why ascended are so bad… they’re limited to overly rich players.
Likes:
- Freedom of movement: you can roam anywhere you want, without restrictions
- Supply system: well thought-out and it seems to function most of the time
- Guilds: some of the best communities I’ve ever joined in any game were my WvW-only guilds in GW2.
Hates:
- AoE cap: why do you hate small groups Anet?
- Zerg-rewarding: come on… why reward people tapping auto-attack and chasing 5 guys with 30-40-50-60?
- No body-block: on topic of zergs, they just run through you if you try to defend a location
- Rewards for roamers: non-existent
- Commander system: void of any options AND bought through gold (this is not the way to go)
- Customization of fortifications: why is there nothing at all? Omg I can hire a bunch of guards that get killed by a zerg in 20 seconds, Omg I can fortify gates and walls, making the gate 30 seconds longer to destroy for the blob. Omg I can add cannons that aren’t useable because enemy players AoE the wall insta-downing me.
- Close to no WvW updates in 18+ months of the game. WvW ranks and abilities are a joke fyi. Ruins and bloodlust added more win for high populations.
- Server vs. Server: inherently bad because servers are always unbalanced in population.
- Ascended gear: not needed, please remove.
- Warriors, warriors everywhere; lack of class balance.
Well at least if you make it badges it would be a proof that you actually played WvW. The people who buy commander can be newbs that didn’t ever do wvw.
dangles dat carrot
Zerging/farming/grinding rabbits eat carrot
Btw, after watching that video, is it just me or is that guy doing the same thing all the time?
- Rifle: n°3
- Heal up cause he lost 3k hp (wtf?)
- Get his axe/shield out, stun the air, eviscerate the air
- Run away
- Get rifle out
- Shoot a few rounds, tries a kill shot
- Back to axes and whirlwhind
- Forgets to heal
- Get killed
The sequence is sometimes a little bit different. :P
I think he’s really beating it. If empty space dropped precursors, he’d be rich.
Anyone remember the very first time we got to step foot in Tyria… it was either the first public beta or right before that… the mobs were tough. I never died so many times in the starter zones in any game’s PvE ever, and I loved it! Absolutely loved it. You really had to pay attention, learn the combat, etc in order to survive. I’d love to see that come back… nothing would “fix” the non-broken combat system more than scenarios that require you to use a far greater extent of the combat to survive. Give the mobs more skills, make them tougher, give them abilities that shatter stationary “press 1” zerkers who aren’t paying attention like so many glass butterflies.
Combat is fine. I see combat being quite fine in WvW against thinking targets. We just need more aspects of the game to require you to actually use your skills and do so wisely.
I was there on BWE 1 – and I don’t remember any of this. The mobs were sort of like they are today. I powered through the content like there was no tomorrow.
Metrica Province Fire Elemental.
Utterly LETHAL early on but the longer it went on the more people understood “don’t stand in the red rings” and “DO NOT REVIVE ON THE BRIDGE!” . . . still got hit with a nerf stick at least once.
Some got hit by the nerf stick, some didn’t. Most content was easy to me in betas already. I guess only solution is… to go play a new game whose mechanics I didn’t master yet, since judging by responses here everyone is just fine with how easy and skill-less this game’s combat is. sigh
Well, you have two solutions. Go to another game, as you mention, or get into a WvW guild, run some organized WvW and learn how mistaken you are about the combat system and mechanics. It makes a huge difference going against actual players.
Lol. You must be kidding. I played 1000+ hours of SPvP and WvW in this game. They’re both lackluster and rely on 1 thing: zergstacking. Don’t tell me I need to get to know “a huge difference going against actual players”. Personally I look back with joy to the combat we had in GW1. It required splitting up, it required team-work, and sure it was frustrating sometimes, but that’s the best feel you can get.
And of course, inb4 the rage: I played 1v1, 5-man, in WvW aswell. I had my share of duels and of zerg clashing with 5 people. We once fought off a zerg of 30 with 5 people.
The fact only illustrates what I pointed out. If you have enough hard dps/control and know how to handle your damage mitigation, you can win anything. That doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate fighting another skilled player, but the maiority is simply spamming this and that as much as possible.
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
good nerf. champ farming is corny but effective. looks like world events might actually get done now
I agree. Farming shouldn’t be the objective in this game.
Who are “real” WvW guilds?
PPT guilds? GvG guilds? Roaming guilds?
All of them.
Add in PvX guilds too.
Problem: most of the guilds I knew that were real WvW guilds (99% WvW, 1% everything else), have long quit the game. Where can they draw WvW testers from if most of the good ones who have been around since launch have left the game?
/Troll mode on
You’re supposed to farm after you reached level 80… for a few weeks.
/Troll mode off
^that was actually the truth.
No, I’d opt for a 24 hour trial, that only counts down when you are logged in. This way you don’t have to worry about when you want to start the trial, it doesn’t matter. Though I’d put a limit that if you haven’t used your 24 hours after 2 weeks, the account is terminated.
- no access to trading
- no access to mailing
- no access to guilds
- no world vs. world (this should be reserved for those who bought the game, cause there is to much stress on it as it is).
- only limited access to 5 zones.
- no access to banks
- no access to map chat
- no access to personal story
BUT:
→ access to dungeons
→ access to SPvP
→ all classes available
→ all races available
→ ability to preview on TP, but not buy.
→ friends available, to allow for people to join in with their new-made friends when they do buy the game

Build Templates?, anyone… ?huu ? nooh ??
That’s more of a game-wide QoL feature. So not really something that the WvW team would be working on. That of course doesn’t change I would really love Build templates.
What Lane says, people who still buy dyes either have to much money or are complete idiots. It isn’t worth it to buy a dye for 2g, while you already have it on alt…
Don’t expect gw2 to be anything like gw1 because you will be severely disappointed, Gw2 has it’s fair share of positives but they are far outweighed by it’s negatives.
2 words for gw2 “anti climax”
Hit the nail for me.
Suggestions
1. Add a temporary buff to wvw reward track gain when joining / playing outnumbered.
2. Change the wvw icon at the top of the screen when your team has an outnumbered matchup so people know to get in there!
3. Make a reward at the end of the week for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd that gets scaled by your participation over the week so that people want to win!
Hey nose. Those are really good suggestions. Not sure which ones I like more.
They have never claimed there would be no grind.
They have claimed there would be no REQUIRED grind. Which is still very much true. You can experience every single piece of content in the game without ever grinding anything. They have added rather much real content since release, but for some reason people seems to ignore that.
But I suppose Fractals, new dungeon path, Southsun and Edge of the Mists (to name a few) doesn’t count for some reason?
Everyone knows you as a fanboy already, no need to prove it.
Oh and… this part here is a downright contradiction.
You can’t really blame the game for a bunch of elitists either. It is the players, not the game that creates elitism. And that will happen in every game that require some sort of skill and/or gear.
- First you say: it’s the players who create elitism
- Then you say: it’s something that happens in every game that requires some sort of skill/gear
- So in essence, what’s wrong is that this game has grindy gear tiers and it’s the game that is bad, not the players.

Hello there Mike! Would you like to join The Old Boys [OB]?
WHO ARE WE?
The Old Boys [OB], a guild on the world Gandara, are looking for more members to join their ranks. Our guild is PvX-based, meaning we do not have a particular focus, but enjoy all activities, ranging from PvE, Story quests, Dungeons, Tournaments, WvW.
OUR MEMBERS
The guild has a core of about 30 players active daily and some 20 more active every now and then. Our roster has 150 members.
We’d like to bring the number of active people up. Most of our current members are people who’ve been there since the start, and who are very experienced in the game. Therefore, we are an excellent guild for helping new people out.
OUR COMMUNITY
We are mainly casual players, although we have some hardcore players, who do play a lot more. The guild maintains a feeling of mutual friendship and cooperation.
OUR AIM
The main target for us is to play the game and have fun doing so. We like to do any activity and our leaders have organised 2 maior events for the whole server so far.
Need help? Ask the people in the guild.
CONTACT
>> Our site: http://oldboys.enjin.com/home
>> In-game:
– our leader – Vestra Grey,
– our officers – Bartholomew Roberts, Suicide Firework
Yours sincerely!
~Vael~
Thief needs this buff to be anywhere near to viable. And chronomancer needs nerf. Seems okay to me.
- PPK will make nobody ever run an uplevel anymore… Goodbye easy kills
- Removing white swords will make it impossible to find any fights… Goodbye WvW
@Sarathiel: Technically, the whole of Season 1 was an expansion’s worth of content to… just too much of it was temporary or designed for annual festivals.
@Deceiver: we already got a dev stating that season 2 will be permanent content.
Ahahah. Except that Season 1 was:
- Filler content: achievements and meta-achievements for grindy content
- Backpack skins; as if we need them
- Boring and childish storyline
Not even close to “an expansion’s worth of content”.
I doubt S2 will be any different: zerg, grind, farm along!
Rooftop free running anyone?
You totally have my attention now. I remember all these roofs and amazing mazes of streets. I always got lost in Kaineng.
The leader. No more needs to be asked. Anyone below leader rank can make no claim to “ownership”, though they may have their share of work involved, yet that was a choice, nobody forced them to work for their guild.
If I am to decide, the leveling system in Guild Wars 1 was the best of all. All you had to do in order to level was complete the primary quests and the storyline. You could feel really useful and important, because your story evoluted and your character with it. There was also a ton of variety because of certain choices you could make AND the story itself was the main aspect of the game, meaning they had invested a lot of time in the story, making it 10x better than GW2 story. Also, 80 levels is waaay too much.
Before the developers think we don’t like the game: I think about everyone here does like the game and is simply expressing what would make the game even better in their experience. At this point GW2 is the best mmorpg on the market and it might stay the best for a long while, if you just keep adapting and revolving.
=D I do hope April brings us
a) Dominion of Winds
b) Cantha reconnaissance
Haha looks like the most common response in this thread is “No”.
I’d like to add… No, I don’t want ascended gear. Get lost, ugly treadmill.
Rid regular xp from wvw, eotm. Add tomes. —> way less low lvl leveling. Players will come with high levels to earn tomes
Brilliant. <3
You see, this is the problem. People rant about world events being spamming 1 and akitteng, then release a world event which requires co-ordination and strategy like Tequatl, and everyone calls for a nerf.
The problem you face here is that those are different people.
Sorry there is a middle ground between 1:
- ridiculously easy monsters to slaughter (aka. the ones being zerged pushing 1 skill)
- ridiculously hard monsters to be slaughtered by (aka. the ones one-hitting the player)
Anet doesn’t have a clue what strategy is and they sure have no clue what fun is.
A:
Casuals.
A new world vs. world dev team?
Oh wait I forgot.
WE DON’T HAVE A WVW DEV TEAM!
The game mode was made for open siege war and not remote GvG, if the dev wants to stand there he has the right to stand there, he did nothing wrong… He said, start the fight go go.
You guys knew it was open world warfare with siege when you bought the game, when you buy a new couch in the store and you are going to sleep on it but its not sleeping very comfortable you are not going back to the store and complain about that right? lol
Say if I bought a billiard stick and encountered muggers, im not allowed to break my billiard stick into 2 and use them as selfdefense arnis weapons because the billiard stick is sold as billiard stick?
do i violate the “billiard stick mode”?
Can you translate it to WvW words? I can do it with mine.. but I don’t understand yours.
are you prohibited to use something in a way that’s not its intended use? like using the billiard stick as weapons.
or say to play checkers using a chessboard?
Coz in WvW speak, they are prohibiting a gamemode (GvG) to be played within a game mode (WvWvW).
Your point is valid. Prohibiting a game mode is nonsense, cause if there aren’t any rules that impede the ‘prohibition’ then there’s no way to enforce it and it shouldn’t be in enforced in the first place, seeing as it’s a game and nobody is cheating by playing doing GvG.
On the contrary, people who play GvG actually elevate the general level of WvW to a more tactical and skillful activity. Nothing is as boring as watching 50 people kill 10, which is the general level of WvW I mention. 20v20 or 10v10 or 15v15 are FAIR matches that actually require skill of the groups in order to win, not just numbers.
It’s rather saddening that ArenaNet tries to negate this.
To everything you state in your article I feel nothing but admiration and an overwhelming feeling of “Yes, yes, yes that’s the way I feel.”
Some parts of WvW are extremely fun (small duels, large open field battles, but also the sieging part you mention). Others are just lacking (like the way zergs function, the lesser rewards for people who do valuable things, the lack of guild content and the fails in the commander system).
The fact that you recognize these issues and are willing to do something about them, makes you and your team more than the WvW community could ever wish for.
I hope the changes will be as promising as you make them sound and that we will find WvW ever more interesting and challenging!
ps. forget about the babies, you don’t have time for that!
^Karma most of all. I’m practically floating in it.
I can’t help to remark the following facts showing a total failure with this patch:
- The rewards are horrible:
- Nobody wants minis, they’re not worth anything. At the most they’re a “oh well I have it, and luckily it won’t take up bank space cause it’s a collectible”.
- Desert rose is a copy of the flower backpack from “The secret of Karka Island” and is just dyed red. It isn’t anything new.
- The Zephyr backpack is a copy of the multiple other backpacks we have in-game.
- A chance at aetherized weapons. RNG….
- They promise future content, but the future content is actually part of the present, making the present actually nothing but a promise. This update is just saying that we’ll get new content, but it doesn’t bring new content itself.
- In the voting they also bring an incentive to get people buying more gems for buying BLTC keys with them, just a money drain imo.
- Feigned “the player can change something”-scenario. Evon has about 10 times more appeal than Kiel, due to her bland character and the very very uneven advantages they offer.
- No noteworthy WvW changes, catapult mastery is hardly what the WvW community is looking for.
- No noteworthy PvP changes, we don’t need aspect arenas, cause that can hardly be called PvP.
- 3 new activities (aspect arena included) each of them very much like Crab Toss, Belcher’s Bluff, Sanctum Sprint and other unpopular, randomly added events because the update had to have significance (which it doesn’t).
- A bunch of new achievements, to encourage achievement farming.
All in all… I say this patch lacks a lot. If only Anet would decide not to hurry with updates to try bring one every 2 weeks, they could make permanent content that did mean something.

When will SPvP close it’s doors?
So let’s recap:
- Jathres says he had fun (without any insults to anyone)
- Sin says Jathres is a noob who dies all the time to his blob
- People say “Duh”
- Sin tells everyone they suck
- People challenge Sin to back up his claims at 5v5/10v10/whatever or kitten.
- Sin says no repeatedly
- People challenge him to a duel
- Sin says no repeatedly
- People tempt him with gold
- Sin says “Okay but you won’t even show up”
- People prepare to show up
- Sin demands a change of rules, backing away again. As they are the people offering gold, THEY should set the rules.
Best bit is that regardless of the duel outcome, it doesn’t change the original argument, Sin is basing all of his “you suck” comments on the speed that people die when faced with 4x+ numbers, and that the points aren’t close. Even complaining about how boring it is to fight blob vs group all the time, yet still is impossible to find seperate from his blob.
The only thing I conclude is that sin is on this particular thread all day long and he’s the biggest moron I ever virtually met on a forum. o_O
Have fun hammer bashing him. I think he may just ragequit after the 7th consecutive win on your part. :P
I’m going to download guild wars 1 again and next to it I’m going to download Forge for some nice REAL PvP, without the imbalance of ascended gear.
Good luck to all of the people here that have a mind! Goodbye to all the farmers/zergers/grinders/fanboys. Bye Grind Wars 2
I think this guy is very very right. Why should we play wvw? The same counts for spvp. They’re pretty much rubbish.
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
Abandon your hope. Best advice I can give… we won’t ever see this.
