What I'd do to fix WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

Additional:
1: Get rid of desert borderland; it’s too big.
2: Get rid of reward tracks: they draw in PvE players
3: Make gift of battle easier to get.. The reward track again draws in PvE players.
4. Stop putting in incentives for PvE players…. Seriously, they just want to karma train and I suspect they are not geared properly for WvW.

Anyway that’s what I would do. Would it work? probably not but it would be a step in the right direction I think.

Wondering where you expect to get new players for wvw if you want to keep pve players out. If you expect players who only wvw to walk off the street and into wvw good luck with that, that obviously didn’t help wvw population in the last 4 years, even before your 1 2 3 4 list. Pve players are the least of wvw problems.

How do you counter bandwaggoners?

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

Dump everyone into one population pool and set to pve mode.
Allow guilds to go to war with other guilds, guild leaders can /guildwar guildname, it will automatically flag both guilds as enemies.
You can flag multiple guilds, you can only hurt players from those guilds.
Individual players can also do /duel to other players, you will be permanently flagged to that person.
Once set you cannot reverse these choices.
Everyone else who doesn’t want to use those commands can sit on a wall and spectate.
“But then who wins?” No one, there’s no point system, there’s no glicko, there’s no servers. You play to take over structures for bonuses, capture 3 keeps and get a teddy bear backpack, whatever the hell for all I care.

There, bandwaggoning countered….. XD

On a more serious note, I barely want to pay $50 for an expansion that has $30 worth of content, sure as heck wouldn’t pay $50 to transfer. Also… free accounts.

People move for one of these reasons, they want to win, they’re bored and want different opponents or allies, they want to get to more populated servers to find more interesting wvw experiences.

Bandwaggoning isn’t the only thing that brought the game to it’s current state, having glicko walls and same lopsided matches for months at a time, chased players to servers they thought would be a better experience. It’s still going on to this day and players are still fleeing to the higher tiers or leaving. Not to mention the boring stale ppt scoring system on the same maps we’ve had to play for 4 years. GvG guilds have given up as anet will not help cater to their game play.

Guilds stuck in mid-low tier servers that had no way to get to the top tiers to face guilds up there because their server wasn’t good enough for coverage to ppt higher, had no choice but to move up. Asking someone to pay $50 to transfer is as good as asking them to go buy another game.

The next WvW suggestion - More objectives

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

As with others, I don’t really think we need more objectives that provide points, but I do feel like there could be more places to fight over to promote fights, whether that being over “daoc artifacts”, or something to provide boosts, or provide a map specialty like dune rollers type of thing, capture-able waypoints north side of the map, and yeah maybe extra supply.

They kinda tried it with ruins, shrines, and the dino cannon, but those are pretty much a fail, two of which can pretty much be solo capped. The problem is getting even fights in an open map setting, hard to do.

So you think it’s ok for them to leave it as it is, and not address it at all, because it’ll likely only last a week?

No, I expect them to stay focused on developing HoT, and not take resources away just to fix a temporary event.

If that’s your line of thinking then they shouldn’t have taken resources to develop this event in the first place… right?

But since they did take the time to introduce this event, they are obligated to fix it and not ruin the game for thousands of players for the entire week.

“Oh but it’s only for a week chill out.”, why should players accept this type of shoddy development with no followup to obvious exploits?

Even if it’s a temporary event they are expected to fix exploits as soon as possible and not let it run rampant, or if they can’t be bothered to fix it then take the buff off or turn off the event, I can’t imagine it would take more than 5 days to do so.

What happened with Major WvW Overhaul?

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

No player facing features for the ‘WvW overhaul’ were started until after HoT shipped. The frequently referenced ‘1 year of development’ refers to our efforts to restructure the WvW backend to actually be flexible enough to support these types of player facing features that we are working on now.

So yes population control options(linking), reward tracks, scoring changes, QoL changes, are part of the major overhaul that were started on recently or after HoT. It’s being released in pieces now rather than waiting on shoving it out the door at the same time.

What was the point of the 'Beta' WvsW?

in WvW

Xenesis.6389

Linking, on paper can work, it just depends on Anet doing it properly. I think this comes down to knowing the servers instead of just reading data off the screen. Seeing that Darkhaven had just come from a poor linking which came in last in every match in the first set of links, I think we can all imagine they lost players and probably needed a break to recover from those losses, maybe linked with HoD instead.

Instead they gave them Ehmry who was winning with HoD, but quite frankly HoD did most of the work, no offense to Ehmry who lost guilds during that time and less regulars were playing. The 3 and 4 linked servers maybe could have matched up with just HoD/EB instead of DH/EB. The reason why they even threw that many servers in t4 is probably because of the complaints when the t8 servers were dumped into t1 with the first links. But that tier was poorly done this time around and players I’m sure were shocked to see it happen and probably could tell right away it was going to be bad.

What I expect from linking is either these two scenarios.

Balance every server population wise as close as possible so that every server will be able to have closer coverage and fights. Sounds like that t4 4 link could have maybe matched up against t2 or maybe t1 with their reported numbers early on. Problems with this is players who don’t want to be on packed servers, but even if the populations and coverage are closely matched, t1/2 guilds would probably demolish the t4 zergs/blobs. This scenario isn’t happening going by the 2 sets of links so far.

Second scenario, balance the servers according to their tiers, much as they were before the links. That means every tier will have less population overall than the one above it, but they should be close enough to the 2-3 servers they’re playing against. I know that’s difficult to do, and probably why they asked us if we would like more worlds as links so that it would be easier to build the jigsaw puzzle population with many more options. That 4 link just seemed a bit much this early on in linking.

At this point I wish they would just do away with glicko and just do the one up one down scenario for servers, enough of the glicko walls.

I’m sure at some point down the line they will consider doing away with servers and moving to the eotm alliance type of match making, whether by the way suggested in the forums to keep populations even on the new servers or by their own method. I expect links to be an experiment in trying to get populations closer without doing the drastic moves of hard merges or random eotm alliances, but eventually it will come down to that and I expect players will be more receiving of it now. Wvw isn’t growing from what I can see, it’s still dying a slow death in population, I don’t really expect that to change.

1. Account bound wxp, the most important change we are all waiting on.
2. Adding second sigil to two handed weapons.
3. Changes to commander tags.
4. Lower cost to transfer to lower servers, leave the cost at max for T1 and T2, need to spread the population out otherwise these tournaments are pointless.

RIP power builds in roaming

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

Why would they do that? It’s not like the crit damage got outright removed from the item.
Back then with MF gear, the problem was that they couldn’t just slap on a rangom stat or leave the gear at 2 stats, so they had to offer the stat change. MF gear was used for a very specific purpose around that time and it could no longer be used for that purpose. This time, however, things are different. Crit damage is not removed, it gets rebalanced… And the gear still serves the exact same purpose(dealing damage) as before.

It’s because most dps classes have access to effective crit/crit% builds or condition builds, unfortunately they require you to complete change all your armor to go either way. A lot of people who chose to go the crit/crit%(damage will be reduced by 10%) build with ascended items might want to switch now that condition builds are looking better with every change. Is it really fair to hang those people out to dry after they worked on getting ascended with the stats just to their liking for their build, then turn around and get an important stat changed?

I wouldn’t give two kittens if it was exotics we’re talking about here, because those are easy to come by in multiple ways. BTW I don’t and won’t be getting ascended items other than laurels(holding off on that too), thankfully stupid changes like this reinforce that decision. Why do they have to make switching builds so difficult, so much easier in WoW to play different builds.

Why does the staff look almost exactly like the long spear? Staffs are usually badly proportioned and badly designed in this game, but that’s just taking it to a new low.

Agitate for change today, NO WAY, NO SHIELD!

I’m ok with the shield if they let us use it like Captain America!

  1. is a high shield bounce that hits 3 targets with vulnerability and weakness
  2. is low shield bounce that knockdowns 3 targets
  3. is a 360 spin hitting all targets around us with cripple
  4. is a block that counters with retaliation and protection for 5 seconds
  5. is drop it to the ground and use it as a hover board charge to get away with 10s of swiftness!
    ……….
    …..
    ..
    .

On a serious note, we did not need another off hand weapon, seriously, like really, seriously. Focus, torch, sword, pistol, we do not need a 5th off hand, with only two main hands to choose from. We could use a long range weapon for power builds like pistol, and a short range for condition builds like dagger.

Shield skills in Gw2 have always typically been meh to me, so not really looking forward to getting it on the mesmer, but we’ll have to wait and see what the skills are I guess.

SOR Press Release - WvW Committee

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

I see Sor still hasn’t figured out what their problem is, it’s not about the ppt, you can win without having to micromanage the ppt which rall has manage to do to stay in the top three. It’s about the commanders and guilds hiding from the community in their foxholes, the guilds run around as small havok squads because some of them don’t like running with pugs, and some of them are so paranoid of spies they don’t run with the tag or pugs.

The other issue is commanders, basically only one is allowed to show on a map at any given time, when someone else tags up even by accident you can sometimes hear the disdain in the current commanders voice questioning why is that person tagged up. You want to break up the zerg and yet only run one tag most times? Some non main commanders out there seem hesitant to take up commanding either for stepping on toes or lack of experience. There’s guild training that always happens, is there also commander training?

Rall complains about the blobs that they encounter, they seem to think that other servers should play at their level, they shouldn’t blob and they shouldn’t get new guilds. But this is tier one, both those are going to happen, get use to it and work around it or move to a lower tier. One russian guild moved onto bg, and rall guilds all of a sudden gives up for days after, just think of the chain reaction on morale that did for the server.

You say this committee is by the community for the community? how about starting to truly work with your entire community, the guilds and commanders need to start leading in the open. You don’t have to go out of your play time and do overtimes, you don’t have to manage the ppt, take whatever places you can, smash the enemy whenever you can. But your “community” which is made up of a lot of players from small guilds or the guildless need to see the main guilds having a presence on all maps so they can follow and help. Train the pugs in the process. I hope you all understand the importance guilds and commanders have on the morale of wvw players.

Concider getting rid of WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

So instead of having 3 empty maps for wvw, you want them to create 32 empty open pvp maps? I’ve played on pvp servers on WoW, it always came down to being a gankfest than anything else, high levels preying on low levels.

Maybe it would be different for GW2 since everyone gets scaled to same levels, but the majority of players in GW2 are pve’ers, and I doubt they would be happy about pvp’ers cluttering up their maps.

I’m sure this would be a paradise for roamers and maybe small groups looking to gank people, not so much zerg groups as they want to find other zergs to fight and the quickest way to do that in 32 zones would be just pick one zone and go there, lion’s arch battle royale! all day every day!.

Automatically joining the team

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

You don’t get thrown into groups when you go into the pve maps, so why should they for wvw when there are many players who do their own thing solo or with their own groups.

If you want to be more informed about what’s happening around you have several places to look. Commander tags and squads, some are open and you are allowed to self join them, the ones closed are most likely coordinated groups like guilds who are using voice chat. Voice chat such as discord or teamspeak etc, every server uses one, get on it and join the public channels, some of the lower population servers don’t have many in there that’s just how it is.

Team and Map chat, while it has clutter on it, it does also have the scout reports and sometimes the commander is commanding through those channels. Join a wvw guild, run with them and only have to worry about running with them during raids. You can see team mates around you on the map, the ones that are further away, well there are other tell tale signs, did a sentry or camp just flip to your color? did a tower just flip your color? well maybe the group is there, follow the trail of white and orange swords.

Part of the experience of wvw is learning the map and it’s shortcuts, learning to avoid or finding groups, yes dying has a big penalty of sending you back to spawn on the long run back, that’s also why waypoints at the keeps are important to have. That should also be a motivator to play better, read situations better, and try not to die as often. Warriors also happen to be one of the better mobile classes in the game.

What you are doing is sitting around waiting for an invite, that’s your problem there, you have to reach out to join others on the map. If you want your front line warrior to be effective you’re going to have to join groups to share boons heals condi clears and stability, but frankly the current meta doesn’t call for frontline warriors, blame anet on that.

If you can’t find a squad, then make your own. But it sounds like you need to join a regular wvw guild.

Wvw and Condi

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

So after this kinda of preface, i’ll let go the fun/healty side of the condition combat, andlet show you my point of wiew about condi in wvw and his respective balance issues:

FIRST PROBLEM, some pve stats combination are really overpowered, especialy when they include condition damage on them as a main stat. For example dire and Trailblazer are totaly unbalanced set of stats, thats the reason they are not even appearing in pvp, but unfortunately we actualy have them in wvw.

SECOND PROBLEM, as someone already mentioned, anet balance team seems to have forgot after buffing condition dmg to buff the cleanse capacity of each class, resulting in very high unbalance issue. In a way that no matter how many condi cleanse you have, the spamm of them too high in comparison, it’s like Anet lost the control on this.

THIRD PROBLEM, condition removal capacity differently from the possibles counters to berserker/power build, are not balanced between classes, this means while a berserker build can be countered by ANY class by just tank up, or by learning to dodge the single burst the opponent class have, with condition damage instead there are some class that have literaly really bad bad access to condi cleanser, thusly differently from countering power build, sometime you have to literaly upset your build in order to chose cleansing trait/utility to face condi. To me, having cleanser to be mandatory is the DEATH of BUILD DIVERSITY wich is afflicting this game. As i said a couple of thousand times, condition should just be a kinda of side dmg in support of power dmg for the kiting classes.

FOURTH PROBLEM: maybe many of you are not updated about gvg scene, but actualy the meta is some sort of condi/hibrid based. The reason is always the same, much more easy to coordinate a condi burst that accumulate even in a not perfectly syncronized group burst than playing simply power builds. Also, you force the opponent to change their offensive build in a more sort of preserved cleanser hybrid.

FIFTH PROBLEM: in a blob fight, immobilize or chill can be much more deadly and devastating than in pvp or a single 1v1, since if you get immobilized, you will recieve the damage of 30+ people wich often can result in a instant death. So, in blobs condi removal are needed to avoid soft CC. But what happens if the blob is condi based, you will have to waste your condi cleanse even for the condi dmg, wich result a fast death in the consecutive immobilize. I dont understand why people keep saying condi are not good in blob fights, there’s so much aoe/opponents/dmg to evade to watch out, that if you even have to waste your attention to condi dmg, i don’t see any fun on the fight.

SIXTH PROBLEM, and this is the big one that some dumbyy condi lover doesnt seems to get: differently from power based dmg, that can be counter by a single stat (toghness) or nicely timed evades, condition damage HAS to be cleansed. This means, you have to waste seconds of cast time during an entire duel to cast a cleanse skill. This often result in the fact that to counter conditions, you have less offensive initiative than when facing power builds.

I hope to find people in this forum that can help me making anet realize what they are doing to this game. Gw2 had and still have an amazing combat sistem, plz anet dont ruin this amazing games with bad decision and unfun mechanics.
I understand that this is a noob friendly game, but even a noob can have more fun if the game is more skill oriented. And to me, condition damage is the ANTISKILL side of the game.

Ty for reading, hope some developer will read this too, cuz it’s not only my idea, but the idea of my entire wvw guild, and of all of my friends that like to play hardcore.

Excellent post, ever since the June 23rd 2015 patch combat has changed for the worse, and then the expansion hit and the new specs made the problems even worse.

You’ve hit a lot of the main reasons for the down fall, dire set should have never been introduced to wvw, and now that celestial set is out of spvp maybe both those sets should be removed from the game. I mean if it’s not in spvp the main pvp area, why is it still in wvw the secondary pvp area to fight? Oh right because they refuse to split gears/stats from pve like they did for spvp.

They buffed conditions and added even more conditions to deal with, but didn’t do so for cleanses which again isn’t equally given to every class. Then they added resistance but it’s attached to barely used skills or talents it might as well not be in the game.

This is the main reason why I’m on a break from the game on top of all the wvw issues.

Just because a server is locked but not winning doesn’t automatically mean they should be unlocked for that reason. There’s a lot of things a server could be doing that does not contribute to winning the week.

Maybe YB doesn’t have a lot of commanders running these days? or doing the right things to win skirmishes? But if they have 2000 active players and not winning, while the server with 1500 active players is winning, doesn’t mean you should open the 2000 player server if they’re over the active population threshold. Just means they need to look at winning their skirmishes, or maybe they don’t even care about that these days.

The only problem with this system is players afking in wvw zones and racking up the time spent, which I suppose why ranks gained also is a factor. But you hear servers like JQ that supposedly has a lot of afk players and you can see why they’ve been locked. Maybe the wvw afk boot timer should be lowered.

[Proposal] Tournaments and Seasons

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

I have mentioned the idea of mini tournaments a few times and thought maybe it was time to write out a format and see what the community thinks, see if it can lead into maybe getting a weekly event into wvw that could promote getting more players into it.

Goals
The goal of this proposal is to try and attract players of the other game modes into wvw, mostly during down times of living story or spvp seasons. To provide current wvw players an exciting event every week, giving them some extra purpose to reset, and during the week in earning participation while not being stressed over coverage and commander burnouts during the week.

Also to re-implement past wvw rewards back into the system as well as provide some means to earn potential future rewards, namely ascended armor and legendary back piece, if it is ever implemented.

Tournaments would only last for a period of 24 hours per week, starting from reset.

Every Week

  1. 24 hours Friday 10pm est – Sat 10pm est.
  2. Every time zone will get a chance to fully participate equally during their prime times which are normally 8-12pm. Est would start late but they get to finish up the scoring.
  3. The tournament will note the victory points after the 24 hours and use that as the tournament total for that week. Scoring continues on as normal.
  4. The victory points a server earns in that 24 hours will be the 1:1 amount of wvw tournament tickets earned, which can be used to purchase various rewards.
  5. The tickets will be awarded at the end of the week at reset.
  6. Using the 5-4-3 victory scoring, 2 hour skirmish timer, a server could earn a maximum of 60 tickets per week and a minimum of 36.
  7. The rest of the week will resume normal play, with the extra bag rewards for placement as usual. The entire week will also be used to earn participation for the ticket reward for that week.

Seasons
Optional to this could be a season mode which would be used for the purpose of handing out bonus tickets. The victory points earned from the weekly tournaments are added together over a period of 4 or 8 weeks (between link times).

  1. For the 4 weeks period you run the weekly tournament as normal from the start of the relinking, while closing off transfers for this period. Then at the end of the 4 weeks the 6 main servers (and their links) earning the top victory points will earn 100 bonus tickets. Then tournaments continue every week after, the season either starts over right away or after the next relinking if players would like a break in between.
  2. For the 8 week period you can run this like a sports season with a playoff mode. You add up the victory totals after 4 weeks, the top 6 teams will move into the “playoffs”. Those 6 will continue on the next 4 weeks to earn victory points and the top 3 teams will earn 150, 125, 100 tickets. But all servers will continue to earn tickets according to their victory points even if they’re not in the playoffs.
  3. In this format it would not matter if you’re in tier 1 or tier 4, as long as you’re winning skirmishes, you’re not going head to head with different tiers, it’s basically a race for victory points during the period where most servers get the maximum participation from players.
  4. As a seasonal reward the top server will also receive a badge next to their name, much like the spvp badges.

Participation
Participation of course will be need to be tracked so that players are not “sleeping on the job” to earn tickets for the week. There are various methods Anet could use.

  1. Check for a minimum wvw level earned for the week, 5 levels for example.
  2. Implement a new repeatable reward track for the tournament time, then check if the player has completed this track for the week (most of the rewards in this track should be siege much like the triumphant armor track).
  3. Provide a new series of achievements for players to earn participation for the week.

For example – WvW Year One Season Achievement week number (1-52):

  • Capture 1 sentry. Worth 1 achievement point.
  • Capture 1 supply camp. Worth 1 achievement point.
  • Capture 1 bloodlust ruin. Worth 1 achievement point.
  • Capture 1 tower. Worth 1 achievement point.
  • Capture 1 keep. Worth 1 achievement point.
  • Kill 100 players. Worth 1 achievement point.

Fighting SoS was really fun as well; they’re some seriously good fighters.

What tz were you playing in? Everytime we face SoS, they are either in a blob or they have no players on a map at all. Like none.

From my perspective, we don’t have anywhere close to the numbers of TC and JQ; so often we were outnumbered 3:1, even more at times.

Bruh…

Depends on what time zone you walk in on, SoS doesn’t have a 4 map full timezone coverage like some people think we do. Had fun fighting the T1 blobs, we can compete with them we just didn’t have the numbers a lot of the time, also all the trains were so melee heavy we had to go back to more range to handle it, which was more of the T2 pug style anyways.

Anyways thank you to the rest of gold league for the fights.

If you have the time to play then yes it’s worth coming back. There would be a ton of content for you even if you don’t buy the expansion so why not?

Most newer and more intense content de facto demands the new classes. Raiding as “core” classes will be significantly more difficult for example.

Raiding is only available to HoT clients anyways, which have access to the new specs. They only played the game a few hours back at release, the core game has a lot of content for the OP to do. Not necessary for them to buy the expansion until they play and feel they will stick with the game.

OP, it’s free to play, just reinstall and play again.

A few ideas to make this less of a bad deal for everyone is;

make stealth trap visible.

make reveal a real condition to be cleansed.

make the stealth trap a build site that requires 30 supply to complete, thereby allowing you to notice it being built & requiring coordination to deploy.

Why don’t you just ask them to plant a big fat [STOP] sign where the trap is, much simpler.

There wouldn’t be a need for stealth traps if stealth wasn’t so broken in design.

So what exactly would you do? Not like servers have any control over the individuals that play on them. Report them and move on, don’t blame the server for those idiots.

IT’S BETA.

That excuse got old after the first week. A Beta for a day or a weekend is one thing but, an entire 3 months???? That’s not a “Beta” any longer.

Don’t be ridiculous. To gather any proper information for the system as big as this it requires weeks or months, not a day or a weekend. Do you honestly expect them to look at the numbers for an hour and come up with the perfect solution to matching servers for perfect coverage? 3 months might be a bit long, but not surprising it’s tied to the quarterly updates. 6 weeks might be better as that’s also the expected time for glicko to settle in each time from the link effects, which would then be a good time to shake up the links according to the data they gathered over the prior weeks.

Plus there was a lot of movement once again by players in those top servers, that changes population and coverage numbers again, which a day or a weekend would not properly pick up on.

Did anyone honestly expect BG to wake up all of a sudden? they only did that for tournaments, and we haven’t had one in years with a lot of movement of players in the top tier during that time, they sure as hell didn’t show up when YB finally broke T1 which had the same matchup for over a year.

Linking is in it’s starting stages, it’s not in it’s final development stage, they are asking if this is what you want for population changes. If you don’t they will take it off and look for other solutions down the line. People need read the developer comments and properly understand what’s going on here.

They don’t even need to deal damage with their weapons, they only need these two skills for damage.

  • Caltrops: The duration of bleeding inflicted by this skill has been increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds.

[Proposal] Tournaments and Seasons

in WvW

Xenesis.6389

Part 2

Rewards
Tournament tickets can be used on a number of things.

  1. As one part of payment for Ascended weapons on the Ascended vendor when it’s available, the prices should be high.
  2. As payment for Gift of Heroes (current cost is 200 tickets) to upgrade Hero weapons (gained from reward track) to Mistforged Hero weapons.
  3. As payment for Gift of Heroes to upgrade Triumphant armor (gained from reward track) to Triumphant Hero armor.
  4. Ascended accessories (current cost is 200 tickets).
  5. Infusions (current cost is 50 tickets).
  6. Mini Dolyak (current cost is 200 tickets).
  7. Obsidian Shard (current cost is 50 tickets).
  8. Superior siege 6 tickets, Superior Trebuchet 12 tickets (same price as with proof of heroics).
  9. Gift of WvW used for crafting Wvw legendary back piece, 600 tickets.
  10. Gift of Battle used for crafting legendaries, 600 tickets.
  11. Flax seed, 1 ticket.
  12. 5 Badge of honor, 1 ticket.
  13. 1 Ticket, 5 Tomes of knowledge ( I didn’t forget you tome people!).

Prices and most numbers listed in this proposal are used for example purposes and should be changed accordingly to what Anet deems to be more appropriate.

Implementation
Implementation shouldn’t be too extensive as most of the scoring is already done with skirmish victory points. Just a matter of calculating totals separately for the tournament score and then seasonal scores. Participation tracking will need to be implemented in whatever fashion Anet deems fit to use. Most of the rewards are already in the game.

Population Bandwagon Tanking Concerns
There is a concern about Bandwagons moving to winning servers. There isn’t anything that can be done if players decide they want to move to potential winning servers for 4 or 8 weeks before relink happens again. Short of cutting off transfers which I mentioned for the 4 week season. With a season happening right at relinks it will be difficult to tell where a server will end up other than the guaranteed top servers, but who knows where links will end up.

The only big bonus that happens is if the seasonal format is used for the bonus tickets. The tickets being awarded every week will range from 36-60 tickets per week, not a giant difference. If players feel the rewards of this system is enough to shuffle gold or real money to Anet to move around often, let them drain their pockets. Relinks will happen and everything gets shuffled again.

Maybe players or guilds from the top heavy servers feel they could win on lower servers. They could also raise the minimum gems needed to move to low population servers to help curb some of the mass transfers, maybe 1800 to mains, 1200 to links.

Tanking could be a concern for servers trying to get into a better position to win at the start of a new season in a lower tier. But as we’ve seen with the current glicko ratings we can have servers bounce from tier 1 to tier 3 the next week to tier 1 the week after. With the hopeful increased participation of pve and spvp players, maybe tanking would be more difficult to do.

TLDR
Weekly Tournaments 24 hours from reset, victory points earned is your ticket amount earned.
Season of 4 or 8 weeks of tournament victory points, earns extra tickets.
Rest of week used for participation to earn the tickets at end of week.
Tickets used to buy wvw shtuff.

Should probably read it if interested in the topic though.
Let us know what you think could work or what needs changing.

divide servers into time zones

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

See I disagree with the “time zone” slots on scoring, due to the variations in time zones, along with the imbalances of many servers during specific times of day. Right now a server who ha a larger OCX/SEA can push and gain high ppt, while that same server may lack NA compared to their opponent which can then make up the PPT lost form OCX/SEA. Same with EU and so on. Breaking it into “time zone” scoring, allows for less chances for the non server prime timezones to gain lead (as they do now) followed by not having the lead caught up by the server’s prime time for wvw’ers.

True OCX might put your server ahead by 3k points, however when your NA logs in they could also make up the points. (As it is currently.)

Though if you change to the specific time zones, you will run into people (lets use NA as an example) who are At work, or off work, and the “slot time” would be a bit off, due to having a hour differences between east and west. Where as now, people do not have to play from work, or rush home to log in by xxx time, they would have a set time limit by the proposed change. (Say 4pm-12am)

The time zone “slotting” really doesn’t work, due to how many time zones there are in the world, and how many time zones would cover each one of the proposed “slotted” times. Granted it would work for the weekend more so, however that is 2 days of 7 in a match.

I don’t know if you’ve fully thought it through on the effects it would have on scoring.

If a server has NA as their strongest zone they will most likely gain 3 points in that slot every night(using the 3-2-1 not the 5-3-1 scoring), while the other servers who may have ocx or sea as their strongest points will make up that 3 points to counter it within that 24hr period. With this system no server gets to absolutely run away with the score because of the smaller numbers you use for the weekly total scoring.

T2 is a good example of this, let’s say FA, SOS and DB.
FA would most likely win during NA time so FA-3 SOS-2 DB-1 (SoS supposedly has more na than db but it could switch easily).
SOS could probably win in ocx time so SOS-5 FA-5 DB-2 (but again a toss up there).
DB who have a strong sea presence could make up the difference here so FA-7 SOS-6 DB-5. (SoS will probably almost always lose this time because of weak EU but their sea could make it interesting).

Unlike the real scoring right now you can end up with FA walking out with a 10-20k lead in 24hrs and the match is done for the week. 10-20k is not that easy to make up let alone 80-100k by the end of the week. Unless servers play overtime and push for it, but that rarely happens anymore because it’s not worth busting your kitten for points that don’t matter.

With the new system a double team would also matter much more, the 2nd and 3rd place servers could actually team up and hit the 1st server harder in certain time zones to deny them points and allow themselves to easily catch up, like it was intended for a three way matchup. Imagine if DB and SOS focused on FA during NA prime, the time zone that’s the hardest but they’re sure to win every night because they can queue 4 maps. Holding the 1 or 2 points from them then you give yourself a huge chance to tie or even take the lead in points in the other zones.

The time zone example given is fine 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, 12am-8am est, (could consider 6am-12pm, 12pm-6pm, 6pm-12am, 12am-6am as well). But it actually over laps into other prime time zones such as sea into eu, na east to west, pst into ocx, there are many timezones in between that would be even more important to scoring in a smaller bracket than the overall lump total.

You can also hide the points gathering for the time zones as a way to not pressure people to get last minute points, but still keep players competitive by showing the ppt. I know there are many time zones around the world and we don’t exactly know how many people are in each of them, but the system would help minimize the effects okittenward coverage times and how drastic of an affect they have in running up the score. Can you also imagine if this happened to a matchup that had three servers near the same populations and coverage, it could keep the matchup competitive the entire week.

This discussion is strictly for NA servers, and using eastern time zone for the zone section examples since that is the biggest prime time for most NA servers.

Is WvW too big?

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

But, I always wondered. When there is 3 identical home bl, the home server has the advantage on his home map because of the layout AND the fact that the other servers focus on keeping their home map too. So, if there was only one “home” map, the server owning the “home” position would feel much more pressure from the 2 other servers and I’m not so sure anymore that it would give them such a big advantage.

Might be interesting to see if having only 1 borderland map can still be balanced enough to be fun

Hm could be interesting to cut it down to 1 bl and have maybe green be the home team so blue and red can always apply pressure them. In that way you could force what should be happening in matchups but never does, the two lower teams hitting the top team to hold back their points. While the green team will feel more pressure, they have a slight defensive advantage with the north area.

Then if you need to have 3 maps, add another copy of ebg.

Now you guys are starting to suggest stuff to over complicate the system. I just want to jump into wvw, take a tower or two, kill a player or 40, get some rewards and have fun during that time.

I don’t need to worry about if I’m defending a tower by myself with an ac and a group comes by do I shoot them or not because I get no loot or less loot or whatever, or do I just leave and let them cap the tower because it’ll be worth no points to them. Need to go work on my secret participation list anyways so I don’t get screwed out of rewards at the end of the match.

Won’t bother with that guy running by with an outnumbered buff, pointless.
I see our zerg is parked outside a keep..

We want to take this T3 keep and break the waypoint, but then the defenders will get extra points and loot if we attack it, we don’t want to give anyone precursors…

Something MUST be done about the RP in DR

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

Here’s a tip for anyone who is worried about ‘flooding’ or so-called ‘spam’:

I’ve found that whenever people complain about RP (or any kind of chat come to think of it, it’s just roleplayers get unfairly singled out more often than not) most of the time it is from players who have stuck with the default chat channels that ArenaNet give you when you first start the game. I think the default is something similar to ‘Main’ and ‘Combat’.

You can create individual chat tabs, and tick which type of information you can see in that tab. The picture below shows how I have my chat tabs separated to avoid one type of chat over-running another.

I’ve found that realistically, you can have up to five ‘visible’ tabs showing at once. Any more than this and they are hidden (so you have to press the tab key to see it’s header). But five should probably be enough for most people anyway.

You don’t have to stick to how I have it, but I’ll show you what my tabs have enabled as a possible example.

Main: Has /map, /team, /squad, /emotes enabled. If you’re not a roleplayer, turn off /emotes from this one. Good for general PvE, WvW and PvP if not in a party.

Say: Self explanatory. Has /say and /emotes only enabled. If you’re a roleplayer like myself, this is where most of your RP will be conducted.

Whisper: Only has /whisper enabled. You don’t see anything else, no /say or /emote here, so no whispers can be missed.

Party: Has /party, /squad and /team enabled. Ideal for doing PvP or Dungeons, Fractals and Raids when in a team. If you’re a roleplayer who RPs with party members, you can turn on /emotes here as well. Beware though – if you type an emote in /party chat, it can be seen publicly too.

Guild: Self-explanitory. Has all the /guilds I’m in ticked. /g1 to /g5. Again, /emote and /say aren’t enable so you can’t miss a guild chat. Unless you’re on Mac Beta of course when the bug happens where it deletes! >.<

I really hope this helps people. Using chat tabs is a lot more of a friendly way of dealing with your problems than singling out any type of player. Please don’t unfairly cut out roleplayers. RP might not be to everyone’s taste, but we all have one thing in common – we’re all Guild Wars 2 players and we love this game so much! <3

This right here is the easy solution. Had to do this years ago to get away from the emote spamming in wvw while not totally disabling emotes, also handy anyways having a separate tab showing the important stuff like party/whisper/guild so they’re not getting lost and flooded out in main chat.

Upcoming changes in Spring Quarterly Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

Probably because it’s not possible to make 3 separate maps equal in ease and difficulty of defense and attack. Since WvW is scored with winners and losers by server (and map if each is different), if one map is easier than the other two then it has an unfair advantage and that side will win more often than it should.

That sounds like a reasonable explanation. I’ll bet you’re right. It’s too bad though that three different maps couldn’t be functionally similar and gameplay-balanced while still being different thematically and visually.

Yup the 3 home maps need to be equal so that no can argue “well that side has an advantage this week because of X map”. Takes them a year or more to work on wvw maps, as stated when eotm map was created, and evident by the new map.

From the get go they probably should have just made 4 ebg type maps, then they could have dumped the “homebl” concept and we could have had at this point ebg, alpine, eotm, desert as the 4 maps to play on for a matchup.

The 3W match 24h active window. Is it right?

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

My comment wasn’t directed to you Dawdler but the OP.
Skirmishes did a lot to dial down the overnight runaway points and I think it was the right direction to go with that. They still have the option to implement the hot time zone bonuses if you want to push them for that.

I’m not really for it because I don’t like the thinking of players that want to limit points outside of their play time, because their own server has less players and therefore cannot compete to earn those points but they want to make sure everyone in those zones get slapped with a penalty.

Sure maybe the time zones with the most players could be earning more points, but really those time zones will also still come down to whomever has the most online and taking stuff. Is there even any servers that get 4 map queues? if not servers will still have imbalance of population and coverage, just not as noticeable in prime time.

WvW is a 24/7 game, should 4 hours be worth more than 20 hours of the day? At the end of the day, who cares? it’s just points and that’s not even the real problem of wvw these days, trying to make additional changes to the points system is not going to fix wvw.

I don't think you need Ascended

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

im not for WvW being able to purchase ascended gear for WvW currecny. because you’ll just want people to come for WvW just for ascended gear and leave, thats now how you maintain a healthy population. we had this same issue during Christmas with PvP where people would leave WvW, making the game mode a wasteland on all sides, just to get ascended gear in PvP.

You said it yourself, people from wvw went to spvp, because guess what, it was easy to get a set of ascended gear, then they left anyways. So apparently it’s ok for this to happen in spvp but not wvw. They wouldn’t need to leave in the first place if they had a proper way to obtain it in wvw now would they.

Also if people come to wvw just for ascended they’ll need to get the currency first, I certainly wouldn’t set the currency to be like 1000 badges and 2 gold for a pair of boots. At minimum a lot of proof of heroics and gold would be involved, ideally I would setup weekly or monthly short run events to earn tournament tickets in order to purchase a set over a few months with tickets and gold, thus preserving cost and time to obtain.

But hey whatever, wvw doesn’t need ascended, no need to add something to bring people into it like they did with spvp, it’s a dying bad mode anyways.

Edit before you say I didn’t address all your points.

without gear being a thing, there already a lot of barriers that stopping new players from playing WvW, making ascended gear more accessible wont fix the amount of issues or get rid of barriers that exist in the game. fresh players new to wvw wont have access to ascended gear. so you want to instantly put that disadvantage for new players with flimsy gear? thats entirely the reason why WvW is set up that way, as i already touched on, making ascended gear more accessible will create more problems than it will fix

There is always going to be a barrier between new and vet wvw players, no matter what. Uplevels are not even boosted to exotic levels and they have to endure that from level 2 or 60 whatever their account is. Then they still need to farm badges to purchase wvw exotics when they get to 80, all the while they will still get creamed by exotic or ascended geared veteran players anyways.

What would help new players is to get the best gear available sooner rather than later, once they get the gear to that point they can worry about the “other barriers” and stop blaming a lack of gear as a problem for them. Maybe you think only 10% of wvw players have full ascended at this point, my thinking would be closer to 50% but who knows. Either way I wouldn’t mind handing newer players ascended a little faster than the current wvw rng/time gating.

coalescence of ruin

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

I think the skill needs a buff and the range should be increased to trebuchet range, would save us the cost of trebuchet blueprints. Plus if we are able to hit the lord from outside with it, it would save us the trouble of having to break into structures, all we would need someone inside to cap the ring after.

So maybe they can make warriors be able to punt asurans over walls, I was thinking maybe using wild blow to launch them upwards at a 45 degree angle inside of straight backwards, or maybe if they’re using rampage the number 3 skill in the chain of attack 1 which is an uppercut.

Now if they were to use rampage uppercut, the warrior would have to a char in order to have enough power to punt someone that far, so they would have to lay out a guild banquet table and have the target stand on it before being uppercutted. Guardians of course should also be able to do this with hammer number 4.

That would solve the issue with hitting people through walls with coalescence of ruin, because they wouldn’t need to bother to.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

Hope you all realize that the controversial change would only happen if time slicing did not help much in the first place, and even then they would do a poll to see if the players would really want that change implemented.

While the above change takes steps to bring the value of off-hours coverage in-line, there’s a good chance it’ll still be overvalued.

If that’s the case (and we’ll eventually poll on this), then we have plans for an additional system.

Personally I don’t think bonus victory points for prime time is needed, nor do I like the idea of random action hours. Not every server has the same coverage even in NA prime, so you would just do the reverse of what’s happening and hand over points to the biggest coverage servers but in their prime instead of their off hours, which doesn’t fix the problem.

BG I’m sure is a server that would be able to cover all 6 hours of prime scoring and even the random action hours, a server like Ehmry or NSP or DH not so much, even with their links. The idea here is suppose to be about preventing runaway scores so that servers have a better chance at each other, and then leading to stuff like the tournaments and better rewards. That’s not going to happen when you take the points scoring extreme from one side to the other.

Finally many call for population balance but never offer the solutions. What do you all want them to do? they lock the full servers already, hell 12 of the 24 are locked right now. Players also created this mess by stacking when they had the choice not to do so. Want to help them fix the mess? move your guilds down a tier or two, or wait in 60 man queues every night, your choice.

Gold in WvW

Runes, sigils, foods, certain armors and weapons, are all expensive, and can’t really make up the gold for them unless you follow a zerg around and collect bags from players or lords, even worse if you spend little to no time in pve and all your time in wvw roaming.

Reward tracks for various activities in wvw like a track for camp captures, or tower captures, or player kills etc., would be nice.

Spvp basically has no cost, but they basically have better rewards than wvw from their tracks.

Because it’s a priority poll.. they’ll probably implement both, they just asking us which to work on first.
