Anecdotes are worse than useless for trying to track alleged changes in RNG as people will only ever comment when things are going poorly. Of course all your anecdotal evidence is from people having poor luck, they wouldn’t ever bother to comment otherwise. It’s like interviewing people leaving a bar and freaking out that almost everyone you talked to had been drinking.

This pretty much sums things up. People rarely comment when something is working properly, and usually only bring things up in a positive light if there is a discussion about it and they feel provoked to do as such.
For instance, we recently made it possible to join and reconnect in fractals. Prior to that patch there would be a new thread nearly every other day about how bad fractals were because of disconnects, and those threads would be the most popular. But since fixing it there hasn’t been a single thread about it, or any comments. It’s just the general nature of people to happily enjoy things instead of taking the time out of enjoying something to exclaim that you are enjoying something.

Thats true, but why now? why only after patch ppl start to complain about the loot!?

Or those ppl want to complain about anything or something is really wrong

haha, “why now” nothing.

OMG patch nerfed loot! is a hallmark of MMO’s since 1998. every single game wihtout exception, even mere maintenance patches.

They pop up after every major patch. It’s especially true after this patch as the improvements to fractals (namely the disconnect fix) lead towards more people playing them.

Sickening market manipulators

I read his posts on this forum. It doesn’t sound like he inferred that at all.

Remember that Sell orders != supply and buy order != demand

“!=” means “not equal to”

Okay, I see what you’re saying. I’ve never seen != as a term for not equal. Unfortunately the forum cannot incorporate he symbol for not-equal. Hmm. I can only guess what he might be saying. I’ve had a bit to drink tonight, but I’m going to take a shot at what he means. The bid and ask price doesn’t show an accurate picture of supply and demand. It does not show us how many people are buying at the ask price, and it does not show how many people are selling at the bid price. It only shows who’s bidding and who’s asking. Looking at the picture of the two does not give us a clear picture of supply and demand. If we had the internal market data of how many people are buying at the asking price and how many people are selling at the bid price, plus the data on who’s posting ask and who’s posting bids, then we would have a clear picture of market value. That data, for now, is internal so we don’t have the whole picture. If a website comes out, if it’s allowed, that shows the second by second volume of bids, those selling at bid price, asks, and those buying at ask price, then the public would have a clear picture of supply and demand.

This is the best I could surmise at this late an hour and in my current state of mind.

Res signet anyone? Utility skill available to every class, insta-res a fallen ally, recharges when you kill a boss….

Teams that run without it gain the use of all utility slots, teams that decide to slot a hard res lose a little utility.

Just a thought to deal with how hard it is to res someone who’s defeated and standing under a dungeon boss.

Its actually a great exercise in teamwork for new players. After you understand how to dodge the AoE, the only difficulty that remains is dealing with getting crystalized. Target the crystal and get everyone to take it down quickly if that person doesn’t have a means of getting out. A downed player should target a tendril to have it focused down to rally.

This is how the majority of other games do this. I mean, GW2 was the first MMO I’ve seen where it was acceptable to die, runback, die, runback without disengaging the boss/battle.

Even in GW1, if you died on a mission, you had to start over.

Why are 20 slots so cost inefficient?

Because poor people like me can get a 18 slot bag. Other rich people asking for more can get the 20 slot bag.

It’s just time and money sink for those hardcore/rich players. Making a slight less cheap bag with almost the same capacity helps those casual players but still give those hardcore players something to aim for.

Kohler is one of the hardest bosses until you learn to dodge his grapplehook, once you learn to dodge that he becomes the easiest boss in the game.

It’s easy to dodge at that, when you see him powering up like a cartoon character, you dodge or move behind a pillar.

Unbreakable Choir Bell prices

Posted by: WetWookie.1687

WetWookie.1687

This is pretty common behavior for event items. What you’ll see is right before the event ends a bunch of people will get the idea that the supply is about to be cut off. They will all run out and buy up a bunch of them to sell them when the event is over to try to make money. If you look on gw2 spidy you will see that spike around Jan 3rd/4th. Then those people have no patience and all sell their items at the same time once the event ends and you see the price go down which you see from Jan 7th to 14th. Once the supply from the get rich quick traders runs out the price will begin to climb again. The real money is made in selling to those traders right before the event ends.

Legendary Precurser MF Odds

Master Bojangles.5183

My post was mainly my experience in pursuing twilight and my opinion of how the three gifts are obtainablr by dedicated players and can even feel rewarding but become completely dissappointing when players realize that the final piece for the legendary is a lottery ticket. I played more than just grinding for the legendary. I am lvl 20 in fractals and have enjoyed WvW alot and world completion was great seeing everything in the game. I have over 700 hrs in game alread and want to roll and alt too when i have time. But afyer spending 3 months casually persuing an item i really wantex just to be told i wasnt lucky enough to get the random drop and need to spend more and more gold for more lottery tickets in the hopes of getti g lucky because any solution from anet keeps getting pushed off makes me bitter yes. I still want to play fractals and grt he back piece, play WvW and get more badges and get the soldier accessories so i can compete as a stronger guardian. I finished my karma gear so i have the armor look i wanted. My point is ive played alot and obtained everything i sought out to through skill and hours in gamr. But no matter how much more i play or better i get in WvW i will never obtain a precurser currently without hitti g the lottery and that is not a legendary feeling. The fact they are even sellable chapens the legendary feel as well. Its not an item of skill and dedication its an item of look how lucky/rich i am. I want it for the pure cosmetic feel of playing the game. I will still login every once in a while and throw in a few exotics in the hope of getting lucky, but yes three months of grinding and completing alot of the game has made me feel exhausted and in the need of a break. I toom breaks in gw1 all the time and still pursued items like obsidian armor and such over a long period, but even that showed progression. This isn progression anymore once you obtain 3 gifts like alot of players have done. It is purely a lottery.

P.s. sorry for typos on my phone.

Will the new update stop skipping?

It’s one of those human things to do something with the path of least resistance and danger, especially when there is a reward at the end. I could make enemies never drop their aggro on players and force them to fight every single mob, but I don’t see that as a viable solution right now.
I think the better solution is to look at why people are skipping things, and approach from a different angle. Trash mobs have too much HP, and can’t be counted on for lucrative drops from a Risk/Time vs Reward, so people interested in making money (most groups) aren’t incentivized to do it, whereas the end chest/boss are more guaranteed and accountable returns on time and risk. I also think there is something to be said about interesting trash mob mechanics making them more enjoyable of a fight.
I can’t make the rewards from trash mobs so lucrative though that people just farm the first couple trash mobs/boss in a dungeon and then rinse/repeat. We encountered this when people just farmed the first boss in an instance and then restarted it (earlier around launch time), and we had to adjust the content as a result. It’s a fine line you have to walk to encourage players to get to the end, but make the process of getting there rewarding enough as well.

I don’t imagine this next update will resolve all the skipping behavior. The path of least resistance is engrained in people, and even if I do everything I could to incentivize people, there will still be those who skip stuff. I have been fixing exploits that will require players to complete more of the events in dungeons, but I am sure people will still skip what they can to get to their end goal.

For now I would encourage those not looking to skip to find some folks who don’t like skipping and make a guild with them… or maybe look for guilds that are dedicated to not skipping, and tag along with them. I’m in a couple of them (anonymously), and it really is an effective solution to playing the game the way you want to play it: Find other people with similar interests and band together with them.

Where's the Scavenger Hunt post?

The requirements as they are, steep as they may be, are attainable by most. A long grueling quest that involves some skill and would be, at the outset, daunting to this “casual” player base would keep many away

The current requirement doesn’t catter to “casual” players.

It catters to grinders and grinders only.

Classic MMOs are built on the foundation that they don’t need to be good games (as in, fun and challenging); they just need to create a feeling of addiction and keep people grinding for as long as possible (and thus paying a monthly fee as long as possible). The more people incentivized to grind the better (since it means more people paying those monthly fees), and so grinding has been made to catter to the lowest denominator – it’s something easy and mindless (a bot can do it), but the fact it takes a lot of time (even if all it requires is a lot of time) means it’s a nice investiment for the designers of classic MMOs…

…Or would be, if more people fell for that. But making a mediocre game (something that isn’t fun and challenging) is only going to deceive so many people; and the fact we have so many MMOs in the market right now, all following the same model, means the target audience of grinders is not really enough to make any new MMO a success.

ArenaNet got it right in their Manifesto. When they say, “We don’t want players to grind – no one enjoys that and no one finds it fun”, and “If you like MMOs, you will like MMOs – if you hate MMOs, you will REALLY want to check out GW2”, they are trying to make a MMO cattering to those who understand how the other options currently available are just time sinks disguised as (mediocre) games.

Thus, adding a system that rewards grind to a game like that, whose main target audience is not grinders, is not a good business move. What ArenaNet has to understand is that they were wrong in not marketing enough this game outside of the MMO niche, and that a vocal minority of grinders from other MMOs populating the official forum doesn’t mean they should change the game to turn GW2 into one more generic MMO made for grinders.

3) you joined other group with hosted story mode instance, therefor couldn’t see each other.

first person to enter instance becomes its host.

every player in party can have his own intance if player hosted it prior joining party.

reloging same character does not destroy your instance.

switching to different character destroys your instance.

The Skipping culture

Posted by: Gab Superstar.4059

Gab Superstar.4059

For the people who skip it boils down to 1 thing.

Note: 99% of people complaining on forums are people whining about why people skip trash, and not the other way around where people who do fast speed runs complain about trash killers. Want to know why? People who do things successfully, quickly, efficiently have nothing to complain about.

No the people who think skipping is an issue just want to enjoy the game, they dont want to take the easy way and just skip stuff. But it just seems like stated before people just want instant rewards.
Some of the people are not gold farmers that just want to do everything quickly. But alas it seems that people will always take the easy way out.
If Anet would have suggested a “skip button” to dungeon most would welcome it with open arms.

you may call skipping successfull or efficient, you can say whatever you want you may say that I complain and whine. But in the end it is the skippers who are just lazy and filled with greed who will take the easy way out on every possible opportunity. And sadly this will not change, these days people only want instant results. And they forgot about the road that leads to those rewards.

Lastly I just want to say fine skip all you want, but I will not. And I hope that those who want to enjoy this game to its full content will refuse to skip as well.

+1
I started to add everyone to my blocklist who insist on skipping stuff.

I hope there is no limit on the block list lol.

The "Interact While Running" Bug [Merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Beastageddon.4037

Beastageddon.4037

This bug causes characters to become completely unresponsive to user input and run in a straight line for a short interval after attempting to pick up an item while running. It happens in both PvP and PvE and can be extremely frustrating. Since character control is such a fundamental in any game, I find it surprising that this has not been addressed. Perhaps an ANet employee could comment, as I am sure the vast majority of players have experienced this bug at some point, and it has been in the game since release.
