i mean some games i do great. then most games i get wrecked by everything. esp warriors. im talking ranked pvp here.i try everything i give it my best. i try my hardest and yet it feels like other classes dont need to try at all. i feel like im dragging my team down.

There is nothing left at equal skill level that can reliably kill a thief at equal skill level.
Despite roaming being largely considered irrelevant from a wvw point of view, it’s still represent a big chunk of the overall fun for your average wvwer.

But Thieves have now reached a status of untouchable Apex Predator, any class stands no chance 1vs1 at equal skill level…no one except a well played Dragon Hunter

This is how a thief wins every 1vs1..except vs dh

Elementalist: Most fights I can win unless the person is running a sustain build with lots of condition clear. Most people run a lighter build to do more damage so I can win these fights regularly. Always a good target, but in group fights can be problematic with mist form allowing more time for the team to res them.
Necromancer: Most fights I can win, a few necromancers run dangerous condi transfer builds that can pose a problem, but mostly they lack the mobility to catch me, especially in reaper form. Good ranged damage can shut them down. Harder with shroud to break, but a good target in group fights because other players aren’t worried about the necro’s HP going low because of shroud.
Mesmers: Good mesmers are hard but if the mesmer isn’t using high stealth uptime it quickly becomes a game of burst and stealth. The mesmer goes down pretty fast. Mesmers are annoying if they can get their balance and start attacking, so in group fights mesmers are high priority to take down.
Engineers: Good engineers have sustain but the stolen skill interacts with finishers really well. The main thing with scrappers is just waiting out the defensive abilities and then bursting. Using boonsteal in generally makes engineers easier to kill and control.
Rangers: I’ve been matched once by a greatsword ranger and a staff druid. Both had strong sustain, powerful damage, and good mobility. I find that rangers and druids that stand still to do their damage, because they “can,” tend to die easily. Using the stolen skill to gain regeneration and heals helps to negate their damage by quite a bit. Rangers pets are also gold for offhand dagger use because the pet won’t move much so it is easy to CnD off that to regain stealth for another attack.
Thief: I find most thieves run insane condi clear. They are easy kills if they don’t. With teleport and enough condi clears getting a kill can be a challenge. Most will run Escapist’s Absolution, which means timing a burst and then not attacking is key to decreasing their HP. Having an enemy NPC, like a sentry nearby is helpful to maintain the advantage by being in stealth more than them. “Winning” against a thief often means forcing it to retreat so you can take the objective.
Warrior: Hit the warrior enough to force them to use their immunities. Also evade their adrenal abilities, both because of the damage and because they will probably heal from it. Basically, burst and retreat, burst and retreat. If you never get locked down you can win. That said, you can tell a good warrior from a bad one pretty quickly. A good warrior will maintain pressure and will catch you with his/her abilities. A bad warrior will let you hit and run until death.
Guardians: hit and run until their passives/blocks are gone. Then melt them. Guardians have such small HP that medium constant pressure will win. Even bunkers should melt to a combination of boonsteal and careful pressure. Also, some well timed interrupts from stolen skill are powerful tools to shutting them down.
Revenants: die. They have a few powerful heals and some chasing ability, but boonspam is the most common type. They are built for group support and quickly die against focused 1v1 fire. It is also more rare for me to encounter good rev players. I’ve seen maybe one who had built for solo roaming and was amazing. Most others I see are running in groups so their build is not designed, perhaps, for solo roaming.

It’s just another rubbish, bland class now.

MMO developers seem to have this thing where they actually don’t know how to balance caster-damage types without turning them into the most boring, pointless affairs in the game. Say what you want about the other classes not outputting as much damage as Ele, but they’re WAY more fun to play.

ANet’s balance team need to take their heads of their collective kitten and realise that there’s more to it than just making the numbers flat and bland for everyone. Classes need to have a personality, some flare. Ele just doesn’t have it anymore.

So yeah, going to level my thief and guard on the side but as of today… I’m done trying to like a class as poorly designed and cared for as the ele. ANet can shove it, as far as I’m concerned.

I think GS should definitely have some sort of leap, preferably something like the warrior 3 with an evade. Would also be nice if the autoattack speed was increased, as well as the speed of Gravedigger. The damage is great, it’s just you won’t be hitting it unless the enemy isn’t very good or gets unlucky

What If Catapults Had A Minimum Range?

I DISAGREE and Im going to make you read this post.

A point-blank catapult would still damage a wall because physics actual exist and it’s silly to think it shouldn’t.

Catapults are not a problem in WvW.

Cool beans.

We’ll just need a few specific things also changed because “realism!”

1. Burning now lasts indefinitely and can not be removed from catapults (or other wooden siege) without placing a water field on it.
2. Each firing now requires supply to be spent to simulate a supply of rocks.
3. Turning a catapult now requires 3-5 people at a time to turn it as superior catas are clearly staked to the ground with no wheels or pivot. 1-2 if norn, 6-8 if asura.
4. Priming the catapult now takes much longer to realistically reflect the time it takes to reload in reality.
5. Over 50% damage to a siege implement will now disable to to reflect it’s inability to function with extreme structural integrity problems.

The only two components our guild’s scribe is in short supply are Badges of Tribute and Flax Fibers. The former is available from playing WvW and I have no argument on that.

The problem is Flax Fibers which are only available (in sufficient quantities) in PvE. This needs to change. Either make them available in WvW (loot tables, reward track, whatever) or remove them from Scribing; whichever is easier.

ANet has been fully aware of the problem by creating special farm areas for Flax Fibers in PvE zones.

Many players have their alt characters permanently parked in those areas. They play each character few mins per day only to harvest these areas. Is this engaging and fun content? Don’t the PvE designers have any pride in their work?

As result those players who refuse host farm alts are forced to make gold transfers via trading post. Why do WvW players have to finance PvE farmers?

PvP and WvW balance is so broken at this point that it’s unplayable.

Guardians are so brokenly overpowered it’s ridiculous. It’s ok for a guardian to be able to kill a player from full health instantly with overpowered traps, or to be completely unkillable with a defensive build. This is OK. In fact it’s not only ok, they actually got more powerful last update.

Meanwhile engineers have their third nerf in a row, and second crippling nerf, when their main skill is running away and being hard to kill. Not even doing damage, because they don’t even have a damage spike. Just running away.

Staff thieves have just had a damage nerf. A class that’s so weak in PVP that people invent jobs for them. (You decap points! It’s what thieves do!) And staff is the weaker of the two main thief builds. So the weakest build of the weakest PVP class got a damage nerf.

Meanwhile elementalists’ are still unkillable, they just do less damage. Great. No one played elementalists for damage in PVP anyway. A warrior can heal and be nearly invulnerable permanently, as long as they’re hitting something, while doing massive damage at the same time. But nope— engineers and thieves are what needs nerfing.

It’s not playable. Unless you want to play one of the favored classes.

I took a week off from the game and came back today out of boredom and was instantly reminded why I quit. I’m not going to do it any more.

The problems with necro is and has always been our shroud. As it doesn’t scale it’s hard to balance.

Replace “shroud” with “our class mechanic” and this is true for every profession. Just how the game is.

And? I never claimed that it wasn’t. I just pointed out what for me is the reason behind why necro never got the things the “necro community” asked for. Reaper got some of it and now that’s been nerfed because it was too strong, maybe not in the way we wanted but still nerfed. All I was trying to say that because of how shroud works we can’t have the things we’re been asking for. So if we want to have those things we have to give up something in return. Which in my opinion would be better for the class. And just because this is “how the game is”, it shouldn’t stop us from trying to make it better, even if it’s pointless in the end.

I get that, but the thing is, there isn’t a unified opinion on what the necro needs or what it should give up to get it. “The necro community” is divided along quite a few lines as to what is to be done. The issue of balancing the classes against each other is universal (pvp it’s against one another, in pve its to make sure they all bring something useful for group content), but the class mechanic only proves to be an issue in pvp, when one mechanic against another has to be considered. So when discussing what we need and what we are willing to give up, you won’t get consensus because what is good for one game type usually hurts the other. (Thankfully it looks like they are starting to do skill splits, and hopefully this will continue.)

In any case, that’s what I meant by “how the game is”.

In more serious-ness. If they allowed player base to more directly fund the game mode(s) each person prefers, then we might see more effort put into WvW. Maybe even with double gem compensation.

Or in other words, let the players speak with their wallets when/if they decide to purchase gems/things. That being said, 50% should be decided by the company…imo customers are right 50% of the time, and vice versa for the company.

Well, thieves are made for stealth, so you should probably let your thief use his ultimate stealth skill called “Hide out at the end of the character select menu.”

It’s kind of self explanatory.

Think of your thief as the head of a crime syndicate. He never gets his hands dirty, hanging out in character-select-land, but instead sends out revenants and warriors and the like to do the dirty work. (cue Godfather-style killing montage with non-thief assassins)
