IIRC, they’re planning something like that. Don’t quote me. I know I won’t complain if
so.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Funny folks. Understand one thing. That Blue is OURS, and we’re taking it back.
Then, it’s time to see exactly how much we can tick SF off. Right, Fergs?
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Ah, the weekly “nerf” post. [cut]
Sorry it’s not weekly, it’s daily and gives OP 1 laurel.
-rofl!- I am beginning to wonder if these folks are getting paid, tbh. I’m still a firm believer in buffing weaker class-specs, as opposed to wholesale nerfs. One option gives more play variety, the other kills it.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Ah, the weekly “nerf” post. Funny thing is – Thief did receive something of a “nerf”, this patch – no more CnD > wall for permastealth. Also, stealth no longer resets NPC aggro, at the very least (which effects any Stealth-user). Past that, I’m at least willing to see if ANet can walk the walk, RE: the talk of complete culling removal.
Assuming this happens, then we get to see how stealth options work out – in general -
on a level playing field. Once we see how that shapes up, then we can talk whether
further modifications are needed or desired.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
It’s an advantage for the flipping side. You at least know then that you have a good 5 minutes to hit elsewhere, or upgrade. I will admit, it’s a royal P.I.T.A. for the erstwhile
attacker.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Considering the sheer scope of Asuran endeavours: I’m arguing equal parts straight IQ and creative intelligence. They probably also access more of their brain’s “spare” space.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Heh … we usually go 2-3. Who knows, maybe there’ll be enough left to go for longer. /shrug
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
There’s one argument that explains kitten well anything, Drawing Guy: Asuran Magitech. Considering many of their researchers have experimented with mind/body interfacing, it should be workable to plop Soul “X” into Body “Y”. Albeit hellishly difficult (i.e. the Gems cost.) That would take care of the … cosmetics … of the matter.
However, I have not yet figured out a way to avoid your technical issues. Armour is the easy one. Could be a part-for-part replacement, considering Karma costs for Cultural Armour are the same across races. It’d also be easier than refunding said Karma, obliterating the Armour, and the player buys a new set. Your points 1 and 3, would definately be the stumbling block.
A poster in a similar thread asked for race changing to work after one completes
their P.S.: That could sidestep 1 and 3.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Most important in my eyes would be: the simple ability to realize that none of us are perfect. That idea spouted by a total noob, for all we know, might save all of our
behinds.
Second to that, is we – as a server – should be a tad more polite/understanding. Yes, we’re horridly outnumbered, but seriously. No need to dirt-drag anyone through
the mud. Any commander – nay, player – what tries their utmost in Wv3 is hella
important. Especially given our numbers.
Third segues directly from Second: Seriously, enough in-fighting! We are – unless one
freely chooses, as others have, to transfer out – one force. Now, it seems to have mostly died down in the past week or so, but it’s something we should keep in mind.
We’ve had enough losses, and I do not for the life of me, know if these losses could
have been avoided with less playground drama.
TL;DR
As immortalized by Bill and Ted: “Be excellent to each other.”
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Aquatic fighting will always come second to ground because two things; a) there’s less water than land and b) there’s absolutely no flexibility in water builds. I don’t think big battles ever really happen under water. It’s mostly a way to travel without being a silhouette. Or a shortcut.
It’s not the builds, it’s that it’s more of a 3d environment and people don’t know how to fight there, it’s not comfortable for them.
If you take advantage of that, you can win a lot of underwater fights.
Very true. I’ve killed a good chunk of folk who would usually wipe me on flat ground.
Not too many folks in MMO-style combat pay attention to the Z axis.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Yea. Any concept that “pays” a player to transfer, is arguably going to be problematic.
Especially in light of how fracked some servers are, due to the free transfer hoe-down.
Heck, what stops a T1 Guild from coming to my server or ET for a week, then saying
“screw you lot!,” and going to a T2. Then, that extra manpower may just prematurely
bump said T2 into T1. Logically, if one’s left T1 once, they would do it again. Thus the
cycle would become something of a closed, self-perpetuating system.
Now, I do appreciate your attempt to thoughtcraft a way to buff the lower Tiers a tad, and your attempt to add a cut-off. The problem is that, let’s be honest – there are folk with multiple accounts. Those persons could really throw things outta whack …
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
(edited by Advent.6193)
Glad to hear my hopes were correct. Thank you, this helps a good deal. /bow
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’d have to weigh in as a “nay.” ?/D builds already have -arguably- the most access to stealth, followed only by D/P (BP Shot > HS > profit). While I do appreciate the idea of being more “Assassin-style,” the issues in the current game engine would make long-duration stealth absolutely untenable in practice. (Imagine the culling on
anything past -say- 15 sec of stealth … even “Revealed” won’t dent what we could do.)
Now, on the other hand: if we Thief players could … “convince” the Devs of ANet to toss us a 1200 range option (Rifle would make me One Happy Quaggan, coo.), that + current Stealth options would allow for more of the Assassination mindset. And, it would also preserve Ranger as the Master of Ranged Attacks, with their traited 1500. No matter, we’re sneakier … they gotta lose focus sometime.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
(edited by Advent.6193)
We began talking about Teyo and ended bickering over colleges.
You’re all imbeciles. If I had funding from the Arcane Council and enough turrets to keep the Inquest away I would just build a college of my own to surpass and engulf the current status quo in magitechnical progress.
It’s a shame that the Council is too in cahoots with the Inquest to hear me out.
And they wonder why I favour the Grand Sovereign Agenda … It’s honestly the most
logical endpoint of Asura superiority.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I also play a thief as a main (1200 hours and 14k kills in WvW mostly solo) I actually agree with the OP about needing changes to stealth. I would prefer to see the thief go more along the lines of the assassin from GW1.
Instead of making the player totally invisible to the enemy, just make them transparent and add in a chance to evade incoming attacks. Note this should be a CHANCE not 100% but some percentage that could be tweaked in testing.
This would make it so that stealth still performs it’s basic defensive purpose but removes the issue of fighting against an opponent you can only see 40% of the time.
That’s actually a great suggestion.
Make stealth like a “phase” mechanic..
Hmmm … it’d still act as a buffer between Thief’s crap Health and the enemy, but
there’d be less issue of “culling.” Although, what would such a change do, RE: Shadow Arts Traitline? Could work, honestly.
(Truth told, I’m actually thinking of going evasion-Thief, especially with the patch on Withdraw.)
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
(edited by Advent.6193)
As a heads up, with yesterday’s patch, we now have Ascended accessories including Rabid.
Now there is no question about what is best to put in those slots.
Although, I could see an argument for using two of those slots for Cond/Tough/Vit
Ascended items. Make your Condimancer a bit more tankish. Probably only lose
~1% on Crit-Rate.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I would hope that is intentional. As is, between siege/upgrades, one would still take a
financial hit, even at 1G/hour. Especially if one is upgrading a bloody Keep …
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
As the OP mentioned, it’s those bloody Boons. Had a scrap (WvW)with a D/D last night, Corrupt Boon’d his behind. Fragger cleaned that out in ~2 sec. My issue was that I was only packing C.B. I’m willing to bet if I were running C.B./Well of Corruption, I could’ve taken him out. But just one boon-rip is not even close to enough. As is, I only whacked the guy with help from a Guardian.
On the other hand, I have minimal problem with Mesmers. I’m running a modified
Condition build (Rampager in lieu of Rabid, Sig of Earth on Scepter/Staff). I can keep
bleeds stacked for aeons on Mesmers. And that’s before Plague of Darkness gets pulled out the bag. Although, I should admit that I main a Mes, and know their
dirty little tricks.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
(edited by Advent.6193)
2 I consider pretty fun:
No more CnD > Wall. Let’s be honest, that just cheapens the Thief class, which already has a ton of hate.
No more “extended” spawn-invuln near southern camps. Excellent. So tired of that
frigging absolute cheese.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Well, I can see perhaps swapping OH Dagger for Focus in a Condimancer build. MMs got some nice hookup, as did Axe Necros. Still no improved scaling on Lifesteal, tho.
Verdict: (Slightly) Sad Quaggan …
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Maybe it’s ANet’s plan to “fix” tier imbalances. WP, randomly join your NEW home!
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
There are certain major problems regarding the idea of a stealth “nerf.” Namely, the fact that Thieves possess bottom-tier Health, minimal access to Stability/Boons. Now, if one could modify those problems, then – indeed – it would be possible to make Stealth a little less “comfortable” to get into. As it is now, Stealth and movement speed honestly are a Thief’s “durability.” (Especially now that their former leadership of movespeed Signet has been compromised). Now, as someone with an 80 Thief, I will say some things need changed. For example, the long-known CnD > Wall business is absolutely ridiculous. Mug, for it’s burst potential, probably should be more of a Trait investment, or be given a small (like 1-2 sec.?) delay.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’d have to agree it was probably canned due to clipping issues. As is, we have plenty of those on eq/armour now. Charr are particularily prone to this issue, as are Asura and certain weapons. As smexxy as a cape/cloak could be, it’d most likely only happen after
gear-clipping became a thing of the past.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I would never want my sylvari to join the nightmare court. Its a pretty silly concept, like the Sith Empire had a bone for salads and 9 months later gave birth to the lollipop guild of evil.
ROFL! I’m glad I wasn’t drinking when I read this … I’d have drenched the keyboard.
As for Lis’ earlier comment RE: cannibal Sylvari: I haven’t thought that, but I’ve bloody well wondered if one could get a buzz from the leaf-hair.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I read it, but still have an issue with the idea. A c/d stops one from jumping in, slappin their kit together and getting to biz. Regarding badges, let’s be honest here. Badge droprate is an extremely variable thing. Also, if one’s planning Legendary at some point, that’s a good 500 they need stashed. As for out-of-spawn, why not have Bank/BLTC near your crafters in your BL? Hell, you’re using the crafters most WvW nights for the Crafting Daily … why not keep things centralized?
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Actually, I spend most of my time in WvW, and would argue against. Here’s why:
Considering I’ve levelled 3 of my alts primarily in WvW, does it make any logical sense
to penalize my efforts in keeping my equipment somewhat proper? Let’s be honest here, Invader EQ is one spec type (P/V/T). Sure, it does the job, but what if I’d rather go Condition or Crit-heavy? With most WvW drops being rather meh, plus the expenses of repairs/siege, let alone the $ gain-to-$ loss ratio being far more troublesome than in PvE … I’m sure you see the point. BLTC allows for the ability to quickly re-spec EQ for one’s intended combat style and purpose. Anyone should be allowed to utilize that. Who knows, that random PvE’er may join the chaos, and love it?
As for the bank, a similar argument from the other side of the coin. Who’s to say that random uplevel may not be an alt of a tricked-out 80? Removing bank access then
screws them over for swapping out EQ their higher-level alts find, cannot use, and
would then place on the lowbie alt. Gods know I’ve done that one plenty of times.
Let alone that this screws one’s efforts to put a bit o’ loot on the lowbie from one’s main.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
lol it might actually be more interesting if SF spec’d while ET and FC fought each other to see who comes out on top. I wouldn’t mind standing around watching this unfold
No no, we need The Flood to keep things dynamic and random for when we decide to thrash each other. Just do what you always do, we’ll find ways to hate each other around it.
In my case, it’s not about hate in the slightest. I’m just a rather direct guy who calls things as he sees them. Also, funny Flood reference … although, I’ve been calling ’em The Swarm. Between SF/DR/Kain, I wonder which has the Queen of Blades hanging
out in their ranks?
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’ll say approximately one thing, RE: an ET accusing our guys of being “cowardly.”
Namely: Tell me, tell me true … what server frigging well hid while T8 was FC/ET/KAIN?
As one who was there for it, your lot bleeding well stayed quiet as mice in ET BL.
Us, we went to EB, hell we went to KAIN’s bloody doorstep. Now, then, Darxio; I do believe I need say nothing else …
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
The other reason, IIRC, was that they didn’t yet have Guesting coded to kick in correctly.
Past that, it does suck to be stuck apart, and still in the same Guild. Hell, my original Guild’s what got me to the server I’ve since stayed on. My suggestion for you, ManofCoal, is to pimp the HELL outta gold/trading, and reunite your crew. (This presumes that your friends have low/zero income, and can’t just do the Gems bit directly.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Morale is high and spirits are soaring in ET. We fight against overwhelming odds and do better than ever.
We are also letting Ferg reap what they sow. Most of us ET commanders have no more feelings of an alliance. We extended the olive branch, and you spit at it. Enjoy getting treated the way you treated us in the past.
And SF has the numbers, but are sloppier than ever. And I see both sides capitalizing on it.
ET will make sure the Blue Keep in EB gets used like it should. And we have.
(Textwall incoming …)
As others in threads like this have pointed out: that “treaty” business was wonky from the bleeding jump. I’ll only speak for my own self: I was A-OK with leaving your guys be. As such, I stayed away from ET’s BL until our own started to get consistently rolled by your lot.
Of course, things like this prove two things:
1.) Any Treaty/Alliance/etc. only lasts until one side (no, I’m not pointing fingers. After all, I’m not logged constantly, and only know my own take on stuff :P) begins to act in a contrary fashion.
2.) As I’m sure you realize, Darxio, it is nigh-impossible for anyone to ride full-time herd on a group of folks with their own ideas on how to do things. I won’t get into the other Guilds’ issues, since I’m not in the heads of any Guild’s leader (besides mine), but it seems to me what we had here was kind of the GW2 equivalent of general Middle Eastern “ceasefire” setups. Namely, good idea, but between idea and execution, things break down horribly.
This of course, brings us to:
3.) Hey, man – it’s all fine. At this point, I’m of the opinion that anyone in our turf needs ejected from it, post-haste. See you lot on the battlefield.

If you read the posts from other servers it is making our tier look bad when there are two threads a week about the issue. Not sure how I was being nasty….I have agreed with this about 50 times already and think everyone on every other server has too. I’m pretty sure Anet has seen read all the posts too…since they moved the other threads. They have come out and said they weren’t doing anything yet about it yet.
Fair, and illustrates a certain problem with text communication. The phrasing, tbh, is what made me think “WTF?” I’m adult enough to admit that as my screw-up. Your point on # of postings also – in a calmer light – does make fair sense. Worst part is, we can’t even guarantee that if guesting/paid transfers had have been in game on Day 1, this situation may not have still existed.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
The key element I never notice being discussed when this topic comes up is…. would being matched with any server other than SF actually be.. better?
Ignoring flaws in how the ratings function, wouldn’t any other match-up be arguably much worse for ET/FC?
That is a valid question. However, ET/FC are – by the inherent wonkiness of the Glicko 2 system – being kept from even finding out. Honestly, when SF has possessed nigh-absolute dominion of the Tier for almost – IIRC- 2 months straight, and – due to
the aforementioned Ratings Abyss between 8/7 – has not moved up to 7, then it is
obvious that something is incorrect in the calculations. They. Have. More. Than. Proven. Their. Might. Is it then proper to keep them down here, festering? I – and many others – would say that no, it is not.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Wait yet another post about T8 and how everyone agrees that the system has been broken since the launch of the game.
I’ve refrained from saying anything to you as of yet, since I’m not a fan of drama – real or virtual – but, seriously. It’s a known fact that you disagree with the concept stated above. That is fine, I am a firm believer in free choice. But do you have to be nasty about it?
(I would think that even an SF person would be somewhat tired of the ratings vacuum
between T8 and T7, considering that your folk could easily have moved up a tier, if
our three servers were in anywhere but T8.)
With that said, the only – and indeed, honest – reason these threads continue to propagate is simple: besides thread moderation and movement, there has been no
Dev acknowledgement of a problem existing. That’s all people really want. Even a
“Yes, we’re aware of it.” would go a long way towards mollifying wounded pride on
all sides.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’m just going to point out one thing here. Given that a certain percentage of Largos-haters are such because Largos are too “elvish” in feature, do any of you seriously think there wouldn’t be a char-gen setup to more closely replicate the older, less prettied-up Largos design?
ANet’d probably place that in the generation options, considering they already have options to “uglify” any of the current races, as is. With this in mind, one could then go more manta-ish than elvish, looks-wise.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior

I don’t mind it, as long as it doesn’t go past the trinket slots. As it is, it doesn’t toughen a PvE/Wv3 alt too much over full Exotics. At least we’re finally at a point where one can snag ’em sans Fractal-bashing. /shrug
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’m not sure how I feel about breakout style events. Those seem almost cheaty to me.
I love them AND hate them. When “Server A” has 100% of their own borderlands, 100% of EB, and most of “Server B”, there is no way in heck that they should be able to start a breakout event in “Server C”.
Server B however should be able to start a breakout event in Server A’s lands.
Humourously enough, I had a thread going about that mechanic. Unfortunately, it vanished into the hinterlands of the forum. I definitely agree – breakouts should be
used as a play-field leveller, not an extra stomp when you’re already kicking the fluffy kitten outta 2 other servers.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I don’t blame you for Rabid spec. However, I’m surprised you haven’t mixed in some Rampager (main Prec, minor Cond/Power). Unless your crit rate’s decently high as is.
Figured I’d ask.

I’ve used SR for both purposes (escape and rezzing). Fact is, the two things keeping it from OP-dom are major (and I assume, intended.)
1. As mentioned previously, for the complete SR stealth, a Thief has to hang out in that radius for a certain amount of time.
2. Thieves have a rather cold relationship with Stability boon. (IIRC, only having it on
one elite skill.
As such, it’s very easy to knock or pull a Thief out of the bubble. The tent imagery is
a total giveaway as to what’s going down. Hell, I yank Thieves outta SR any time my
Mesmer’s using Focus. It’s definately a counterable move.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I don’t know how you guys stay on these servers. Not bashing just props and genuine curiosity.
Fighting SF for the past month or two and Kain before that, I’ve come to expect that we may never have the numbers. We may face opposition of 50-60 in all BL. Does that mean we will back down? Does that mean we will simply wait and watch everything be taken? Not a chance, not a chance at all my friends. What this means is that we just pack extra arrows and spare swords. We are Eredon Terrace.
Be glad you didn’t have to deal with Devona too!
Ah, yes. Devona. A.K.A. another major reason I’m annoyed ANet decided against that
ranking reset. Another FC v. DR mighta come out better, for our guys. But, not gonna
happen at this rate. Unless we manage to get outta this current funk somehow. Meh.
(Although, Darek … one could argue that DR and Kain weren’t as bad. At least in those cases, our squad was a lil more numerous overall, and could at least keep FC BL decently locked down.)

The only issue here, is how stealth implements for Mesmers. I’ve done 0/0/30/10/30 condi-stealth before, with Prismatic Understanding. It can be exceedingly fun, however, our stealth has some rather annoying issues in regards to duration stacking.
For example – I also run a Thief (currently 78 and climbing). Her stealth can -in general- be layered one-atop-another. A Mesmer, though, needs to be quite aware of when one stealth ends, and the other begins. Else, they’ll cancel each other out.
I do not know whether this is deliberate – to differentiate Mes/Thief stealth mechanics – or accidental. But it’s something you should keep in mind.
