When I’m on druid I prefer mender’s so I can switch in and out of DPS or healing roles on the fly. It doesn’t have the best defense of course but it’s a tradeoff. Sure bursting stuff down way fast and optimizing for that role is fun but damage can be stopped with crowd control, blocks, and other resources so that kind of playstyle only seems good in a group willing to give support. A balance of damage and utility seems optimal for any class in general.

Part of the problem with Reaper is that conditions do too much damage, not just their own conditions. If they nerfed chill, Reaper damage would still be too high because they can also apply bleeding, burning, torment, and even confusion by corrupting retaliation.

I understand something with relatively little mobility like a reaper should have some sort of tradeoff for it but the problem seems to be with conditions in general and the worst thing about chill isn’t the damage (though it can be high) but slowing down cooldowns and being on for too long. You need a cleanse for it and cleanses require giving something up whereas for lots of conditions you might not need to give anything up. On a thief for example I can spec for bleeding and poison on weapons.

D/d isn’t my playstyle (I’m dabbling in dagger/pistol and main staff in all game modes, the d/p 5 +2+weapon swap +staff 1 seems powerful, maybe I said way too much but the info is there to discover anyway and optimal play from an opponent should be assumed anyway while playing so no big) but thief at least doesn’t have to give anything up really for that other than critical strikes or shadow arts (trickery and daredevil aren’t optional). Reaper being the premier condi class likely has some powerful condis on its weapons.

If I keep farming Silverwaste and doing some HoT maps then by the time I have the pre I’ll have more than enough shards, ectos, and money for coins to get the remaining clovers.

Gw2 loot system is like working salary. That’s say you can make 10gold/hour.

All you need to do is play 30 hours and you can get your “whooping precursor drops the OP is so happy 2 years ago”.

At 10 gold per hour (this presumably doesn’t count mat farming) it’ll take 100 hours to save up for Zap :(

Since I’m outta obsidian shards I’ll work on the precursor and I should have enough ectos for finishing clovers and have 250 extra handy for the gift of fortune. I have 59 clovers so far.

How I would introduce tengu as playable race:
First mission will be that something happening.
Tengu can’t do it on their own.
They go to other race asking for help.
They get response from other races that sounds like:
“You cramped behind the wall while we were fighting. If you wanna anything from us, you need to undestand us.”
Then that choosen race give you something that will allow you to play their personal story as one of them. It will be magical or tenchological device or something to make retrospection like memory seed from ls2.

The second way what I imagine it is.
Whole personal story for tengu, that at some point other races can adds.
Its like going to Cantha in gw1 as nightfall player. You were in foreign quarters.

Therefore tengu basic personal story will do in retrospection mode.

I can’t imagine if the don’t fix all existing sets of armor to suit tengu. Anyway existing sets clipps at existing races. So it will clipp at new ones.

I personally see Tengu architecture everywhere but am annoyed I can’t actually pass those walls. Near Ebonhawke is a door to the Crystal Desert that no one can pass. Nothing to do with the Tengu (?) to my knowledge but I normally like such forshadowings and feel annoyed and teased when it’s not followed up on. Doesn’t have to be immediate but if Tengu aren’t going to be a playable race I can respect that but I’d like to explore their zones and help with whatever problem they’re having. Maybe they’re isolating because they don’t want to drag other races into a problem they’re having with another Elder Dragon? Since lots of their walls surround the Sea of Sorrows (like their wall near the destroyers which in turn are near the troll cave with the rich iron which is further up from the flying castle) it could be the sea dragon. I say call him Serpentu darn it! :D

I’ve been noticing way strange TP behavior too. Normally it’s no big whenever stuff takes longer than usual to sell but prices taking a serious dip the same day says something. Why all of a sudden is the value of something an entire 50s or more lower sometimes within hours?

Can you put that in more context? A price dropping by 50s doesn’t give enough information to imagine what could be happening. Can you give examples of items and their before/after prices? There are many reasons for a price drop – the most common being simple undercutting.

Let’s say you have an Elonian leather square that sells for 11g 50s then someone immediately undercuts by 1c then 20 other guys undercut them by 1c then someone undercuts them by 30s with a big stack. I don’t mean a precursor which wouldn’t be unusual but this much undercutting never usually happens in such a short timeframe. If it continues then people will simply sell mats for things individually as it’s lost money making the finished product eventually.

Mesmers should have high damage and high evasion skills but die if caught.

Isn’t that the case already though? Especially if they stack confusion and torment but I think you meant power damage. Mesmer can feel like either a really cheap duel or a fair duel depending on if you’re familiar with the class. I don’t play it but have experience against them. Last patch they were a nightmare to duel since on an ele we’d stalemate on point.

Deep Sea Dragon expansion with Largos.
Make underwater combat relevant.

As long as there’s a total rebalancing. Four second sinks are way too much on their own but then you have similar mobs with the same ability (that never ever seem to sink at the 3.9 or even 3 second mark so sinks wind up maximized on their part ensuring a kill). Since the trend is (reasonably) tougher mobs per expansion do you really want krait on steroids? Me neither.

Separate underwater headgear also has to go.

While it’s a long way away this is what I want to see in Guild Wars 3:

1.After the Elder Dragons are beat the races and orders see no more reason to ally themselves, so the Charr finally kill off all the humans (except for one and he can be a PC, if you select not him then he’s a character by himself) then because they beat all the humans they start a war with the Asura next. The game primarily revolves around this conflict. Due to the events of Guild Wars 2 the Sylvari have sacrificed themselves dwarf style to fight off the last remaining dragon (as yet unreleased, or maybe a post-dragon arc where they go after Abaddon’s predecessor)?

2.Controller friendly controls or the same controls as now but able to bind more abilities.

3.No more RNG for legendaries. Mystic Clovers are now Easter eggs that unlock a collection.

4.Six playable races at start: sole surviving human (canonically, even if you see more PC’s in the world with it), charr (charr male warrior is canon), asura, kodan, tengu, and quaggans.

5.Fortress of skulls in Divinity’s Reach. You need to find Queen Jennah’s with a magic artifact for one of the legendary weapons.

6.World is dark and gritty. Sorta has a steampunk Batman feel to it.

7.Open world PvP between the factions. You may take over other races’ cities but they default back after a daily reset.

8.There is still sPvP with many more gamemodes.

9.Maybe make Guild Wars 3 a MOBA with a fighting game dueling mode that I mentioned before?

10.No more in combat speed reduction.

11.No more falling damage.

*
Gw1 was great. I personally think this game suffers from everything being too fast and instant. Too short cast time.*

Then PvE would suffer due to being able to heal less often. Maybe just separate balance already?

Conditions don’t last long enough.

On players they can last too long. Problem with conditions is no matter where you run you’re still taking passively applied damage and there are too many easy ways to apply many conditions. Conditions should supplement power not replace it entirely. The other day I had a 10 second cripple from hyenas on my elementalist so if anything conditions last too long.

Profession weight class mean nothing. 90 % of shield skins don’t do what shields would do.

Agreed on shields but class balance should involve some outside the box thinking to ensure heavies don’t become OP.

I noticed the price of goods fall so much that it’s actually better to sell the mats for a Bolt of Damask individually or buying a Bolt of Damask than selling it directly. One could sell all the mats for it, buy one, and be almost a gold richer than if they were buy it directly for example:

https://www.gw2spidy.com/item/46741

High priced goods will stay high whereas at the lower end they just keep getting cheaper meaning you’ll need to take that much longer to reach your goal assuming anyone buys before you have a gazillion people instantly undercutting by a copper.

I thought Jotun were a tribe of Norn? They also look too human, we need different looking races if they’re adding some. Kodan, Tengu, and Nuhoc seem to fit the bill for different. In the Kodan or Nuhoc’s case they’re so big maybe a preteen version could be our character? Small enough not to inconvenience other players too much while being big enough to be plausible members of those races.

That’s a problem with gaming in general, all those voice actors and actresses costs money, money that gets diverted from level design and more intricate mechanics.

The above post is also why I advocate for outfits that replace your character with another race. It’s like you’re playing a Nuhoc (or other Hylek) but can unequip the suit and go back to being a Norn or whatever for example. This can also work for werewolves and kodan too.

Nuhochs as a playable race would be rad but the problems other than redesigning armors is they’re native to a level 80 zone so you’d need to relocate them elsewhere first unless you start them off at 80. From a lore perspective though how would one justify a sub-80 in an 80 zone? Maybe we could get an underdog story going where he eventually becomes the strongest of the Nuhoch? Wait, there are elite and champion Nuhochs so that isn’t plausible either :( Level 1 is a regular person while level 80 might be Batman level athletic, maybe more though since our characters can outrun bears. Like DBZ our physical strength isn’t tied to our size so Asura and Norn are equally athletic so Nuhoch can get in there.

I don’t know, maybe do Nuhoch outfits instead and call it a day. We already have potions and it’s cool we can glide with them but actually fighting with that form would be awesome.

It’s actually the best weapon set because you can dodge, strip boon, and attack all with the same move. You also get stealth and the ability to daze a target if you keep on them, with decent damage too. As if that wasn’t enough you get an extra shadowstep preparing an escape or gap close.

It can evade into a team fight and lay down heavy burst cleave.

Staff is a fine weapon and seems to have decent sync with dagger/pistol (stealth comba plus weapon swap to staff stealth 1) and good weakness application, but lacks some of the tools that makes sword/dagger so great.

Its far from being the best one. Best one is D/P, followed by staff.
“dodge, strip boon, and attack all with the same move” – no, you need at least 2 moves for that and the frist one has to hit the enemy to grant access for the other one. Flanking strike isn´t as reliable it once was and damage is low. Larcenious not that much damage when you think about how telegraphed the skill actually is. The one boonsteal is mediocre. C&D has still the problem of being problematic to land against any capable player, dancing dagger is ok but not great either. AA got aftercasts decreased and precasts increased (by a smaller amount though), so not that much damage increase compared to how much staff and daggers do. Sword still lack heavily of damage.
Btw the daze on sneak attack is shorter in PvP xD

I’m counting both stages of sword 3 as the same move since they typically chain together unless you need to dodge something that instant so you don’t get the boonstrip part. And dazes in PvP should be shorter. Those 21-25k HP people we’re fighting have much less HP than elite and veteran mobs.

The reason you stated why you don’t like it is actually why it’s the best map in the game. If you’re new to it you’ll get lost and if you take a wrong turn have a credible chance of dying. You need to think and earn your waypoint unlocks. The meta is also fun and tests your awareness and mastery over endurance management. Since thief is hella squishy you also need to master your weapon dodges like sword/dagger 3 or staff 3 and 5 to have a well timed dodge while still DPS’ing, though should still be mindful of falling rocks and doughnuts.

When I do VB, I participate in the meta events including the night ones. I then make sure to tag each boss. I often get 40+ crowbars per cycle plus about a dozen or so of the Nuhoch bags. There’s more than enough time to go through that many crowbars while participating.

Same goes with reaper, it’s reapdicolous! Does everyone have to play reaper now or what?

1.Its mobility is lacking and has poor disengage potential making it sound unfun in open world PvE, WvW and PvP since you need to stick around and can’t just disengage if that’d be the optimal course of action.

2.Relies on conditions.

3.This means if someone else engages you then you need to commit to the fight and lots of your damage won’t be actively earned.

So no, I won’t play reaper although the male Asura, “Your soul is mine!” line is among the best in the entire game.

In raids/ dungeons

Thief/DH tie for first with their 11111111. Rev is a close 3rd but at least it has energy management.

Ele also has braindead rotations but it has to avoid being 1 shotted. Warrior rotation is basic too but actually makes use of all the 1-5 skills.

And then you have engineer that has a rotation that is just plain bad and doesn’t flow at all.

It only seems like that but as thieves (or anything) we’re waiting for the big interrupts so we can safely use skills like fist flurry or impact strike without worrying about an unavoidable interrupt. Vault can be interrupted and mobs and bosses have cooldowns on some of their skills too and thief is all about initiative management and you always want at least enough for C&D for stealth if things get too much. They can’t interrupt your heal if they can’t target you (well, with certain charge attacks they can but you got to be alert to those.)

Ele has forgiving rotations but not braindead per se. I switch with all elements, do water and ice fields, and go between healer and DPS’er since it has full celestial ascended.

Good job, ANet

I agree. Bunker meta needed to go. Now the burden of skill is on more classes. Engineer still feels like a tough duel (on any class) but feels fair now. The only real trouble can be seen in big group fights at mid with certain classes stacking chill and AoE fields. You can’t avoid those fights either since you’d be leaving your team down a guy since someone else is usually fighting beast or rushing far.

Yep traps that do as much dmg as wells aren’t OP at all in a game mode that revolves around fighting on the point. Wells have nothing on traps, since you can lay one set, and by the time someone steps on them they are off CD so you can then follow up with a second set. Boy I wish I could cast wells twice in a row like that!

And DH is the prime reason thieves still suck in pvp. The fact DH hard counters thieves wouldn’t be so bad were it not for the fact that every spvp team has like 3 DH’ers in it.

I mean the whole argument DH users use is “We’re not OP because Reapers beat us.”

OK so there is one class more OP then you… * slow clap *

And DH is the prime reason thieves still suck in pvp. The fact DH hard counters thieves wouldn’t be so bad were it not for the fact that every spvp team has like 3 DH’ers in it.

No, lots of people play thieves wrong because they heard about top ESL players excelling on the class so they wanted to try it themselves only to find they aren’t playing the class correctly. DH also has a relatively low skill floor and ceiling whereas thief has a high floor and ceiling. I think a duel between a top player on DH and a top player on thief would be in the thief’s favor. Both are highly skilled players, but the thief’s higher skill cap would allow its skill to shine whereas the DH would hit a wall being limited by his class’ mechanics. This is just taking 1v1 into consideration a big group encounter may be different. Power rev and druid hardcounter DH and power rev in turn is hard countered by necro, which in turn is hard countered by thief so the wheel keeps turning.

Lots of Guild Wars 2 mechanics are still rooted in very old turnbased tabletop games, including status effects. Those mechanics may work in a turn based environment with stat management but in an actiony game it doesn’t work nearly as well.

The problem with passives is they require no input from the player to activate and could even hold up a shield for 5 seconds instead of pressing a button consuming a resource or reacting to a strike like Dark Souls (which still has some the the problematic mechanics carried over from the old tabletop games but not as bad as MMOs), the one button press did it for you within a wide timeframe. In PvP I played ranger today and didn’t really feel like my won duels were truly won since my pets did a lot of the damage and even CC (smokeskelk has a knockdown)

You also have teamspeak teams vs. pugs so some sides have an inherent advantage due to that but SoloQ and TeamQ solved that problem.

As for acro it’s a net nerf and the new trait is merely a crutch to cover one’s mistakes. I agree they should remove more passives. I want a guitar themed legendary greatsword called Gita ^_^ Ingredients would be Maguma burl, gift of music, and part of the T3 quest would be playing Dragon Force or Fall Out Boy with mechanics similar to the bell choir. A cool looking asura with sunglasses, leather jacket, and cool hair would overlook you and he’d become an ascended extra joining Destiny’s Edge 2.0 eventually along with Tizlak (also part of the legendary quest). Tizlak would also play a guitar.

Effects would be a kewl rift if you draw your weapon and trails would have pyrotechnics and music notes. Sometimes when you draw your weapon the asura male elementalist sound file “ready to rock!” will play.

Since you’re still spending silver to salvage on top of the gem price doesn’t seem worth it to me.

Dragon Hunter - Anet's failed experiment?

I actually think it was a great idea. It plays a good bronzestomper role in that it separates the pros from the noobs but the skill floor and ceiling were low enough where both a pro and intermediate would have the same results with it. Name a dragon hunter and any ESL pro could take them out even with something it so-called “hard” counters. It isn’t the traps that are the most useful tool the DH has but the pull and 5s block. The class is good for baiting a roll for initiative from a thief but most should avoid the big fight at mid anyway at least at the start and should engage with a steal teleport anyway.

It seems like power rev and mender’s (formerly celestial from the last patch) druid counter DH.

You guys say that X >Yor Y>X without even take in consideration the builds that players are using so all the list you’ve written are totally nonsense

Optimal builds for sPvP are assumed.

What now for XP?

I think no EXP should go to waste and should go into a pool where we’re free to spend it as we wish (it saves up over time) so if a new expansion comes out you’d just need the mastery points and be good to go and circumvent the grind problem. Rewards and fun should be the motivating factor behind doing an event and people still do Silverwaste even though our core Tyria masteries are full (well I still need some mastery points but the experience bar is full.)

Long before I even got Bo I felt totally burned out of HoT :(

Which class is laziest?

Funny how despite ranged classes and pets existing in the game thief somehow made the list. You need to pay serious attention to make sure your sword 3 dodge works (or check for boons that should be stripped), when to use sword 2, and angle for the daze properly after using sword 5 and when to switch to staff or shortbow (even the decision for your secondary set takes some judgment and there were times even in PvE I wished I took shortbow). Also watching for when or if to use scorpion wire, which is the anti point blank shot, instead of pushing the mob away with a net DPS loss there’s a net DPS gain since the mob is pulled in a convenient stomping distance and for a couple of seconds lacks his group’s support.

Ranger does have some activity to it (mostly in PvP) but even in PvP I noticed the pet doing lots of the DPS work while I mostly focused on support. I even beat scrappers on a druid (though power rev can have a better time).

To qualify for lazy we need to go by some criteria:

1.Is the damage condition or power? Condition damage is lazier since the damage follows the victim whereas power can be dodged or blocked.

2.Are there pets? These can do damage on the player’s behalf.

3.Ranged vs. melee. Melee needs to get up close, which requires more effort.

4.How simple are rotations? Elementalists while ranged with good condition damage don’t qualify since they need to continuously switch conditions and have lots of buttons they need to press. Maybe the same for engineers. Mesmers while cheap with clones (classified as pets for our purposes here), loads of torment and confusion and other factors might not be lazy, I haven’t played the class so can’t make a judgment here.

The thief knows that dying should be avoided and watches for that to not happen whereas many rangers autoattack from safespots, not exactly something you can do with a staff or sword/dagger (shortbow yes but the damage is low enough where doing so contributes nothing to the actual event).

In PvP at least ranger feels lazy but you still need to time celestial avatar form at the proper moment and be alter to when you could get locked down or where you should aim a CA form 2 for the AoE cleanse.

Is GW2 the best MMO?

So many MMOs are stupid dodging depends on a stat instead of timing a button press.

It’s hard to say what the best MMO is because there are always valid PvP balance complaints in every stage of every patch. PvP balance is the primary factor in determining what makes an MMO best.
