98% according to the leaderboard.

That means you’re playing against some very tough players. At that rank you should really start teaming up and maybe getting teamspeak. Teamspeak vs. SoloQ feels like cheating since one side has access to advantages the other lacks, which is why there should be separate queues.

Noob account Ruby, Main stuck in Emerald?

Agemnon.4608

The faster way to get out of Emerald is to not get into a losing streak when you are 1-2 pips away from next tier or division.

Time your losing streaks when you’re at the bottom of a tier w/ no pips to lose.

It’s junk, this league. There are people in Ruby who honestly belong in Emerald, maybe even Amber.

Implying we’ll have a choice otherwise if we SoloQ or won’t be subject to horrible matchups. I had a team with two thieves earlier the matchmaking should really take class into account.

This. I really hate it when people are so uptight about spoilers (which I go out of my way to find so I can enjoy other parts of the movie and not be worried about stuff like I’ll be less shocked and sad if a character I like died…if only I had some personal story spoilers when I started this game :( )

New class suggestion

I think whatever they add needs to be elite specs (cannot be combined). For example ninjas duel wield swords like warriors and warriors are lacking in stealth so I think ninja would be a great elite for the warrior, it would basically be daredevil without the staff, warrior weaponset and base class. It will have stealth and extra dodge. Thief lacks healing so monk (like druid but has bare fist which for monk would be like having two ascended zealot weapons equipped) would be a great class. Since it wouldn’t require equipping anything (though can) barehandsd would be a healing/melee class. A wider stronger solar beam would cost initiative and be called chi wave would be the number 4 skill and a skill like shield bash would be the number 3 (interrupt, moderate damage, cost decent amount of initiative to modify for thief/monk). To differentiate it from druid (won’t be a complete ripoff of the class like I said it doesn’t have staff) it will have some alacrity utilities but lack strength of the pack and celestial avatar form.

I totally agree that it should be that way, but in practice it isn’t due to the bad MMR system.

“You’re forgetting something. It is FAR to easy for any random player to pick up meta Revenent/Bunker mesmer build and pip grind.”

I personally have a better time on my druid although I’m getting the hang of revenant. It’s all about energy management so you don’t blow it all on Mallyx condition apply to everyone in your presence. You’ll burn out and need to regenerate for some boon stealing or Shiro form superspeed for the times that’s tactically called for.

What is your rank percent? That’s the meaningful stat. If you only play 30th percentile players and have an 80% winrate then you’re still losing 20% versus the 30th percentile so someone with a 50% winrate in the 90th percentile would be more skilled than that 80% win rate guy. I’m hovering around 85% these days (percentile NOT win rate!) and I’m only on the final emerald tier. It’s going to get tougher from here on out.

I mean, I know it’s not hard to find Silk etc. from drops, but I’d really prefer a sure-fire way to go out and harvest them, like all the other basic materials.

Leather nodes… mmm what? just put a several dead animals for harvesting? That would be funny as hell lol and also what tool would be using? a knife?

WoW did it, but you had to kill the animal first. I even took that profession for the increased crit too.

I did it :D While it wasn’t exactly the most pleasant experience in this game (in fact defending a point against a bunker mesmer earlier this week and trivially losing a few 3v1’s in PvP were more enjoyable) I can offer some advice:

1.Set pretty much everything to the lowest setting. I have a 4k monitor so subsample helped the most.

2.Maximum sensitity on your mouse. When you hold your mouse buttons to aim your character you want the camera to be in sync with your character.

3.After you at the checkpoint is a good idea. Sometimes those big characters will obstruct you.

I’m a lefty and still managed to do it with some persistence, hand washing, glasses of water, and couple of cups of tea. All I did with my left hand was press a button, requiring even less dexterity than flipping pancakes or throwing stuff. I needed to utilize some very fine wrist movement with my right hand to complete it and nearly all fails were miscalculated jumps (“calculate” not being the correct word maybe because there’s no real time to gauge your landing and you need to maintain a good trajectory or else you’ll lose your motion.)

The achievement is more about trial and error and memory more than anything.

Keep at it, you’ll eventually make it!

I would also like to apologize for the pictures’ low quality. I didn’t revert my graphical settings :( Still, 60 fps were more important for completion than having relatively smooth edges at 30 fps.

Conquest actually is good because you don’t have to go out of your way (i.e., away from points) to deal with the other team killing lord and since losing is something one tries avoiding you’ll still get in some good PvP (albeit with NPCs to attack and defend as well but it’s one clear goal, not hold points and zerg lord if far enough behind) There should be a gentlemen’s agreement among the players never to go for lord, but then again like people who play Akuma in Street Fighter you know you’ll have violators.

There’s no real shame in losing at those levels but 15 sounds like outright bad luck. Balance Design : Cater to Casuals

in PvP

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

I think separating game modes is best. The thing is any good game needs balancing for skill. For example a low skill thief should lose to anyone whereas a high skill thief should beat anyone 1v1. So the class would be “OP” for dueling, but only if you truly mastered the class (same applies to other high skill cap professions.)

PvE should be the same way too, balanced for skill. Lower level areas should assume the player is new and has blues and greens whereas Orr should assume rares and masterworks. Level 80 areas introduced after Orr should assume you’re fully ascended and that’s just on the gear front. If you just hit random buttons hoping stuff will die then your character should die instead since random button pressing should be punished while deliberate, skillful, well timed play should be rewarded.

The delightfully horribad disconnect system.

I disconnected yesterday and still managed to help the team win. Disconnected countless times in the previous game and lost. Looks like not only I had the problem yesterday. Still, it is a bit shady how the opposing team had the same person in both matches, it was the only time I disconnected, and I never disconnected in the lobby. I was also queuing with someone else so I didn’t want to risk his progress with what could be a bad connection.

Please SPLIT sPVP and PVE skills

in PvP

Agemnon.4608

Then just use something else in PvE. I say this completely seriously and unironically when I say that PvP balance is more important than PvE balance because PvP is player versus player, meaning at least two players bring a set of advantage to the table and fight each other, or a big group of players. If a couple of abilities break the gamemode then it isn’t fun for anyone and class mechanics carry a person and can serve as a substitution for skill if sufficiently broken. In PvE it doesn’t really matter, just buff or nerf difficulty according to net nerf/buff from PvP or better yet like the title suggests separate the balances.

Skills and traitlines would be the same only the numbers would be different, and that’s good enough. Instead of a 4 second AoE CC (great for PvE where mobs can have way more HP than players) make it 1.5 seconds in PvP for example. Cooldown time and stun duration are the most important things to separate, maybe even nerfing trap radius or increasing node sizes so a guardian doesn’t get free decap progress when you’re defending a node and have stability on a long CD.

Another thing to keep in mind is CD for interrupted abilities and CD’s in general were formed in a time before all this continuous chill spam. Cooldowns in general need to be lowered across the board to account for all the additional chill except in special cases for balancing reasons (like stated above.)

To reconcile story and gameplay issues that PvP causes we can simply argue that the PvP lobby and battlegrounds are a magical (yes I said magic, within the context of the Guild Wars 2 universe magic is scientific and subject to consistent laws okay so deal with it!) computer simulation where you don’t really kill anyone (everyone respawns so death can’t logically happen).

Since we established that PvP areas are large magical VR sparring grounds we can logically separate them from PvE skills and abilities. There are our “real” canon selves and our PvP characters. So yes, PvP and PvE separation can plausibly and logically happen from a lore standpoint.

Bunkers aren’t the problem, but poorly designed objectives in Conquest are. Imho entire scoring (point holding/tick, kills and side objectives) require complete revamp, so just holding points would be less meagniful.

I think points need to be made bigger so you aren’t forced off a node if a DH or other class drops huge AoE’s. I say get rid of side objectives like lord or NPC killing and remove temple from the game completely.

If you do so, game will be even more about rotations instead of fights.

Fights should be determined by superior player skill not if they kill some NPC. The fewer the mechanics the more player skill determines an outcome. Problem with some maps is a side could pull ahead or catch up even though they were losing PvP battles and couldn’t take or hold points if they kill a lord or sneak some NPC kills in. Those maps are great otherwise but Khylo seems best despite the trebuchets and narrow points because no one can kill an NPC and gain massive points. Temple is just wrong, too vertical, narrow, and too many environmental factors that mitigate skill.

They won’t do this because it would confuse too many casual players to have skills doing different things in pvp and pve

In World of Warcraft I understood sap lasts 8 seconds vs players and a minute vs. mobs just fine, same principle should be applied here too. The logic is sound, players simply don’t have the massive health pools of elite and vet mobs so stuns shouldn’t last as long against us as it does them.

Umm you do realize that you can only use ONE elite spec at a time, they dont have to account for ANY of these things going forward because all these things are isolated to that single elite spec

Any future elite specs only need to be balanced in the vacuum of their core specs. None of these issues will ever overlap with new specs

I suggested in an earlier thread that elites should not be stackable if more are introduced (such as no stacking berserker with ninja on warrior or monk with daredevil on thief).

New elite specs would be this season all over again and would be OP compared to the current elites.

Well, all you pve lovers complaining about balancing being done around wvw and pvp need to understand the distinction between the two. They’re not exactly the same just because they both involve players vs. players. If balancing is being done primarily around any one game mode, my money is on it being pvp, because of e-sports, not wvw; and balancing around small group – usually close-fighting mechanics – is not always conducive to large-scale fighting in wvw. In other words, as someone who primarily plays wvw, I’m just as concerned about the balancing around pvp. But I’ll withhold judgement until I know for sure. Which is what some of you need to do: stop jumping to conclusions.

There needs to be two separate balancings, one for PvE and WvW, and the other for sPvP. The different abilities required in them is obvious. Let’s say that if something just stood there and took half a minute to kill without doing anything, that’s quite a lot of HP. Did I mention it’s just a trash “elite” mob? Therefore long duration stuns and knockdowns lasting 4 seconds are great against them. Meanwhile players don’t have that kind of health, not even soldier warriors, so stun duration needs toning down for sPvP compared to PvE. WvW is all about big zerg fights and to a lesser extent roaming. People do PvE stuff and obtain the best gear in PvE in order to have an advantage or level the playing field in WvW, so people buy the best infusions, look at the best gear choices for their role, and do what they can to give their server a bigger edge.

Yep, same in any sport. If you’re a varsity runner then a second faster than your opponent is tiny whereas at the Olympic level an entire second is a world of difference. Beginners and intermediates in chess make big glaring errors whereas an international master and grandmaster have indistinguishable levels of understanding despite a 300 point rating gap. Regular masters you can kinda know where their mistakes are but more often come up with good ideas that you wouldn’t consider, or have considered but underestimate their value relative to an actually inferior move or idea you’d choose in the game.

I don’t want to be rude, but the only one of these that makes sense to all modes of gameplay is Coalescence of Ruin. The rest of these are purely PvP warranted nerfs and are ill considered at best since only maybe 2 of those nerfs address a problem (Blur Communing and Demonic Defiance).

PvE balance isn’t important because AI has no sense of fair play and others on the map won’t hate you for rolling an underpowered spec whereas if you’re suboptimal in PvP it potentially hinders your team. PvP balance matters because some of us want to play thief but don’t want to bring the team down. If you overpower it they won’t hold over your head how your class mechanics are carrying you (even if you beat people with similar builds to yours when dueling on points) whereas PvP is player versus player and should therefore be given precedence in balancing. It may be fun steamrolling people with a one man army, but it isn’t fun or fair to have that guy steamroll you. In this game however you can queue that class and immediately have access to good runes, sigils, and traits so it’s much fairer than WoW where a just introduced death knight has its top gear and you’re still gearing.

while i agree with some of the revenant changes (although others could have been implemented in a better way) the changes will still not do much against what’s ruining the meta.

- scrappers too tanky on marauder

- druid pets hitting too hard

- warrior basically useless

- chronomancer on point too strong

As a druid I can attest to this. Otherwise the class seems fine.

Balance Team needs to go

Agemnon.4608

Again, they introduced drastic changes. Every time a new class is released balancing is wonky until they have the proper metrics for fixing.

Still, thief was in a bad spot for quite some time other than decapping.

I have to enjoy Mallyx while I still can before they bring it in line. As someone who plays Mallyx/Shiro or sometimes Mallyx/Glint I’ll admit that necroes give me trouble so there’s a counter somewhere in there. Can’t kite when you too are a close range fighter and it isn’t smart to load someone down with conditions when they can reflect them back to you and Shiro feels like an uphill battle against them. The Mallyx/Shiro meta does seem to counter pretty much everything else though especially guardian. A well played thief can be trouble but passive conditions add up against them. Druid has great celestial form cleanses but outside of that tends to be vulnerable to conditions (I know too well since I also play druid :( ) Even bad mesmers are an uphill battle but good mesmers…“fudge” it. Mesmer has clones that mess up targeting and whose shatter gives buffs and/or damage, alacrity which reduces their cooldowns and fields that cause chill, stability, portal cheesing between points, etc. I knew chrono would be broken the moment I read about what it can do.

I don’t know if it’s a low skill class since I don’t have a mesmer but what if chrono has a very high skillcap and they actually earn that tankiness and support effectiveness by reading the situation and pressing the right buttons at the right time? On a Mallyx/Shiro rev I need to have the proper weapon set with the proper stance, manage energy, when to boon strip, when to superspeed, etc. You’ll fail if you just mindlessly press buttons hoping stuff will die. Still, even factoring this in revenant feels a bit overpowered and conditions do a lot of the work for you, but applying them takes tactical awareness no use wasting energy if it’ll be cleansed by celestial avatar skill 2 the next moment. .
