Same. Anet usually punish exploiters but when it comes to pros, they turn a blind eye. That’s not good. Anet needs to step up and punish exploiters no matter who they are.

The only exploiters are MMR tankers. Otherwise there’s no rule stating you can’t team with lower ranked players in order to get faster queuing times. Is there anywhere in the ToS or CoD that prohibits such teams?

Does the season end too fast?

in PvP

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

It has to end fast enough to avoid everyone eventually filtering up into legendary. All the elites make legendary and only face each other since they fought their way out of diamond where the merely great reside. Since they won’t have legendary tier people keeping them down they’d sneak into legendary as the standard of play in that league went down. Same thing with ruby. All the great players got out of it leaving the merely good behind. The good players will eventually make diamond since better teams than theirs aren’t there to keep them down anymore.

Eventually everyone would make legendary and cause league inflation, so seasons need to end fast enough to avoid it.

Nerf OP classes, or buff weak classes?

in PvP

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

I really think nerfs have higher priority. Everything should be nerfed to the point where the core builds like bunker guard, shatter mesmer, D/P thief, D/D ele etc… are strong enough compared to the elite specs (This will already make warrior viable).

Of course, there are still many things which need buffs: weapons, utilities and traits that have never seen use or have been overnerfed to oblivion.

Then, there are also things which are not just nerfs or buffs. The problem of warrior is that it has lost any niche. Pre-HoT, we had rampage warrior, carried by “rampage” which is bad design, and shoutbow, which I don’t think can reasonably compete with ele/guard for team support. There needs to be something that makes warrior unique.

And outside of warriors, there is the lack of build diversity. After the nerfs to elite specs, we will have classes like mesmers and guardians, who can work as well in offensive (medi-guard/DH, shatter mesmer) and support/bunker (shout guard, well chrono), but we have some which ware still locked into specific roles (thieves, elementalists, etc…). Here again, this is related to the problem of niche: currently, you can already make a bunker/support thief or necro, or a marauder elementalist, but you also know that another profession would do it better. What they did very well with bunker chrono is to create a new type of bunker which supports a team in a totally unique way. It is too strong, but the concept is cool.

So in order:

  1. nerf elite specs to be competitive with but not overshadow core builds
  2. create a niche for warrior
  3. buff bad skills/traits so that you could imagine using each skill/trait in at least one specific context. At the same time (since this is related) make sure all professions can play at least 2 or 3 different roles efficiently, which is partly done by creating a niche on how to play this role differently.

For warrior what about single target interrupts? sword/shield + hammer has great potential. Soldier or even crusader gear could be meta for serious tanking on points. The idea is to last long enough for the +1 to arrive and outlast the other guy. Shield bash being the fastest interrupt could be saved for the heal, but if you’re on hammer it might be more practical to use the faster interrupt.

There’s way too much stability floating around though so maybe an interrupt steals stability trait and give stability an internal cooldown? As a part time revenant I’ll dodge just for the stability so something’s broken there. However, all that stability is within the context of classes having lots of AoE CC. A solution would be a resolve bar to avoid CC abuse and for a few seconds you’ll get a status (not boon) like stability (boons can be stolen or converted to conditions) that avoids CC. This would be tuned so you can still do some stunlocking but avoid continuous CC spam on focus target until death.

He should be higher than that, but that’s still an awesome win record. I’m stuck between 77%-81% :( Since I’ll need a positive win record to climb out of emerald it’ll only get worse from here on out. Even if I made it to ruby with a premade we’d be farm fodder for the elites, at least until more people made legendary and diamond and they start facing each other instead.

I have success in clean 1v1’s against dragonhunter with my druid and revenant but daredevil lacks the defense to cope and need to blow dodges avoiding trueshot and traps. The hard part wouldn’t be dodging them assuming nothing obstructs their telegraph but managing energy after those initial dodges. Revenant has condition damage, boon strip, and unrelenting assault being a free dodge so rev counters hard while druid has signet of stones to eat traps, LoS the downed guardian when low on health waiting for the heal to go off CD while the pet keeps him from getting up, then finishing him off. Thief simply lacks those tools.

Leaderboard is actually a decent indicator. You can have a win rate under 50% and still be considered “good” with above 70% rank percentile because teams you beat and lose to are actually really good.

I always try getting into premades and occasionally do, but I mostly soloQ.

I would say good rotation indicates skill most of all and situational awareness.

Tixx’s golem ship is kinda dreamy too though… Anyway, don’t ask me about any plans to take over Tyria from the Mad Realm cuz I won’t say anything! My lips are sealed. this could be the same irl though. so many woman ware such low neck lined tops, pretty much nothing on their backs, so even have holes as a patten all over their dress’s yet the guy’s look more casual, but then they all look the same as far as fashion goes.

it could be and is that way irl and yes when it comes to guys fashion and clothes very boring and dull . and yes women`s fashion is so much more better and more comfy too :)

But if it followed RL you wouldn’t even have all your clothing on when you went into a fight. It’s like an unofficial law among males that the first thing you do before pummeling someone is remove your shirt. Or official in sports like boxing and etc. ;o

Shirts are superfluous cloth in those instances. Even shorts are but those are only worn for cultural reasons. Only practical clothing in the ring are shoes and gloves.

Yeah men’s fashion IRL especially business and formal is very dull. Black suit and tie for formal and only a “choice” of navy and gray at offices. At least T-shirts can still be cool whereas if a guy wore a Deadpool tie at his work it’d probably get him laughed at and in trouble for violating a dress code :( If it isn’t navy or burgundy it probably isn’t allowed.

Problem is you can’t dodge out of a stomp and we’re waiting for people to use their downed interrupts before safely stomping. Stomps also root you and are vulnerable to interrupts and knockbacks.

1.The premades who beat us will likely be off later.

2.Different batch of players later so the matchmaking would be different then than now. We are set up to lose if we win enough, and we’d be paired with those who lost quite a bit, so after I win enough I’ll try getting into at least a three group to circumvent a lot of that.

as for the budget… $1100 doesn’t even qualify as an “entry level” system. ask any enthusiast who spends triple that on custom water cooling parts alone. (forget about those $150 corsair water-cooling kits for high-end rigs) a serious competitor in the PC world buys motherboards that can handle cold bootups with LN2, which typically run 400$ and up. and they typically run 3 or more top-of-the-line video cards. which typically run $600 and up. a typical “high end” machine will run you a good $7000 minimum for the parts.

Are you serious? $1100 is well into the high-end gaming PC budget level. We’re not talking about kitten measuring machines, we’re talking about reasonable computers. Claiming that $1100 isn’t even “entry level” is absolutely laughable.

but of course, this isn’t about “high end” competitive rigs. this is about a budget $1100 gaming PC.

Budget PC level is like $350-550 lmao, $1100 is nowhere close to budget

$350? My processor alone cost that much.

Fix leagues without allowing inflation?

in PvP

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

I think this is the hard part for Anet. An example of inflation would be someone who’s logically only skilled enough for emerald being in ruby or higher, which we wanna prevent.

Basically, I think what needs fixing is the MMR and that leagues are fine by themselves. The current MMR forces your win/loss record to hover around 50%. Even if you’re a full premade you’ll eventually be paired with even better premades ensuring you’ll stay around 50% anyway. According to this if you have just won three games and therefore have 3 pips logically you’ll lose the next three again since you’re due for losing. The only real workaround I can find for this is if you win three or even two in a row find a team so your MMR isn’t just your own, ensure underpowered classes and non-meta builds stay out of your group, and can be on the same page for the next round.

This workaround however obviously involves not soloQing and still has risks as your MMR is raised when in a team.

The problem with having an alternative way is people might think you earned it that way and not with your PvP skill.

And the problem with that would be. . . nothing. Nothing at all. Nobody would care. And those who would care, lol.

And only reason? I think you’re getting motivation confused with reward. You PvP because you want to outskill another team and win and PvP rewards are a byproduct of that activity.

Nope, couldn’t care less about any of that. I just want to get in and out as fast as I can. I play my hardest because I need wins to count for some of the meta achievements, and because it’d be disrespectful to my fellow players not to, but if you didn’t need to win matches to clear the meta I’d be perfectly happy joining an “AFK team” where all of us AFK through the match and get it over with ASAP so I can get back to actually playing the game.

It’s ALL about the wings, for me, and for a lot of players. If you think that’s a toxic attitude to take, I totally agree with you, but we aren’t the cause of it.

PvP is all about using teamwork and skill(mastery of the mechanics and knowledge of other people’s classes) to pull off a win, if you’re good at that then you deserve the prestige rewards. Rewards symbolize progress, if you could buy the wings with 200 gems I don’t think you’d want them since they’d be accessible to everyone with no effort.

I think a colorswapped version for PvE would be good though, but keep the PvP wings uniquely won in PvP only.

my bet:
map: Legacy
Team: u are not premade
Enemy: at least 3 sustain
situation: enemy druid pushes faar contests your home, you dont push and can’t kill ele + bunker mes on mid till they even the fight. One of you decides to 1 home and meenages to kill the druid after some time, meanwhile you lose the outnumbered fight @ mid so it’s 2v1 cap -> this continues till 330 vs 140 points for the enemy team when the bunker mes suddenly leaves mid fight with a portal left behind. You spam the chat with capslock to follow that motherFKer before they blow up your Lord, thankfully at least 2 of your teammates can speak english so they defend, sadly it’s not enough becouse 3years in the game 4, 5 man push cannot be defended.

Yep, exactly why I dislike Legacy (I outright hate Temple). It’s an otherwise great map due to how big graveyard is and is open and relatively flat but the kill the lord bit totally kills it for me because killing lord offers big points that can even out an early 3 cap, and if you go for lord they can three cap and catch up. Also them going after lord means fewer people at nodes since you don’t want them winning even though you’re a bit ahead in points.

It has its problems due to potential abuse and problems with the personal story.

However, since they introduced race based achievements for characters that need to be level 80 it should certainly be an option now. Like you can temporarily turn your character into another race to complete the Sylvari only (or whatever only in future expansions) achievements. Achievements should be totally skill based not dependent on your choice of class anyway.

There’s been precedent for racial based achievements since the game launched. Fashion achievements for equipping racial armor. Story achievements for the racial personal story steps.

I don’t have a problem with racial based achievements. However, I will be upset if they favor one race too much for racial achievements. Sylvari having one more achievement than the other races doesn’t fall under too much favoring.

Achievements are achievements, but in the HoT story ascended trinkets with marauder stats are locked behind needing a sylvari at least in chapter 1. The achievements were easy enough except for the keep the cannon alive one, haven’t started on chapter 2 yet.

Within the context of gaming a good story is one with consistent rules and minimizes gameplay and story segregation and opens up lots of scope for great gameplay. Have an excellent idea gameplay wise that would seem inconsistent storywise? Rewrite some of the lore to accommodate it.

Yes you can grind to level 99 in some RPGs but if you don’t grind and wind up at level 70 through natural gameplay at the last boss that’s your canon powerlevel for that phase for example.

SWTOR had lots of potential and the PvP was fun (except for Ilum which was just exploited) but was poorly optimized and very buggy.

The rest are free points.

And yes, that includes revenants. And no, I’m not telling you my traits, skills, or gear. I’ve eaten enough nerfs this year, thank you.

I’ve found dragonhunters and reapers to be my easiest duels against druid. My traits are like the one on metabattle but with long bow in place of a greatsword and the beastmastery line giving weakness on pet ability instead of the two handed skill (don’t need a trait improving greatsword power if I don’t use a greatsword). I take signet of stone, glyph of the tides, and the daze stunbreak one and strength of the pack for celestial avatar stability.

Despite being the leader of Destiny’s Edge and the only really interesting Norn NPC, Anet seems determined to undermine her. I honestly don’t understand why.

I thought Logan was the leader? All the signs are there:

Revenant has a bit of a learning curve but it’s rewarding when you find a proper rotation and take advantage of combo fields, I personally find druid more useful however due to its healing and CC. Both classes are great for dueling, though revenant has some trouble against necros whereas druid handles them almost trivially with the celestial avatar cleanse, interrupt heal, and in regular form longbow kiting. I’ve defended points against dragonhunters on both classes. Winning a duel doesn’t necessarily mean we’re better however since we can just have abilities that hardcounter theirs (boonstrip and conditions and unrelenting assault dodgeframes in traps against low HP dragonhunters for example)

“This usually happens when enemies have DH or two.”

Daredevil sounds like it counters DH hard with its extra dodge, instant dodges, cripple and root cleanse, fast attacks, and some boon stripping if running sword/dagger. Maybe practice is different.

“Usually 1 in 5 games people start to whine at the beginning of the match (the usual stuff: please reroll, gg you win – we have a thief). I usually ignore people like these, if they get really annoying i block them”

I’ve won games where we had two warriors. Tactics and skill matter more whereas class mechanics come into play more at the higher levels. Still, it’s better to just roll an objectively better class to maximize your team’s potential. Maybe Anet thought thieves and warriors shone for too long and decided to make them weak this time around?

Which armor are u using? I feel so squishy…

This is why I’m using 3 pieces of marauder, 2 pieces of zealot (sacrificing improved bonus damage from ferocity for the more reliable healing power), and a crusader helmet (to recoup some lost ferocity from the zealot while also gaining a little more healing power) and they’re all ascended with an exotic marauder staff (putting Bo on hold for now) and the legendary shortbow with zealot stats (though I should consider viper in some situations due to its nice poison combo field and bleed stacking). I take the daredevil elite skill despite its weaknesses (can be knocked back wasting damage potential) due to its short cooldown, interrupt, and excellent single target damage.

An alternative primary weaponset I use is berserker sword/celestial dagger (both ascended) for the shadowstep, daze, and boon stripping.

I take dash as my final dodge because it cleanses cripple, an effect that makes it easier for red names to catch up to you, shadow arts, and critical strikes.

Wait for Cannonlake unless you have a really old processor (Sandybridge or older), then go for a Skylike i7 if possible. RoG boards like Asus Maximum Hero and such tend to be awesome. It isn’t enough just to have a cheap board you need to have a good board that has features like jumper cables, a good sound chip, BIOS, NVMe features or at least AHCI, surge protection, and decent overclocking potential.

I know you said you have a Haswell i5 but the advice was general for anyone who reads and has the same question as you. For you personally I’d totes wait on Cannonlake, preferably an i7 since you might wanna get into recording so it’s great to have the extra processor headroom.

I think league badges were a step in the right direction since no one wants to be in the out-crowd lacking a cool tag.

“1. put in a way of dealing with/actually infracting verbally toxic players. My experience of the PvP community is the majority is either indifferent or incredibly toxic.
2. remove the viewable personal score, given too many people are obsessed with personal glory over team victory (a problem with a LOT of team based competitive games, not just GW2) – not just to the point they’re throwing games for extra personal points, but also abusing others over having lower scores for going objectives > kills.
3. split the PvE and PvP skills, and then do a massive rebalance of numbers for PvP (durations etc). Constantly wrecking PvE builds for ‘PvP balance’ and then still not having balance in either mode is laughable, and this would go a long way to solving it.
4. lower the burst across the board. The power creep has been ridiculous for some professions post June.
5. get a solo queue back in. Seriously. Doesn’t matter how skilled you are if you get matched with randoms all over the place vs pre-mades with the current optimal OP comp that are obsessed with personal > team scores. The stomping in those scenarios is dull and frustrating, and if I was a pure pve player, I’d have bailed by now.”

I agree with this except for number 1 because we are free to block anyway and The Mist just wouldn’t feel right without the occasional random and/or toxic map chat. I don’t contribute myself, just kinda chill practicing on the dummies (should be updated to elite specs), checking my bank and TP transactions, and queuing.

Agree with 4 somewhat but the bigger problem is spammable invulnerability, crowd control, and condition damage. If burst gets lowered too much then bunker would be even more powerful since damage would do less to defense.

For 2, 3, and 5 I agree so hard. I don’t like looking like a noob in some scoreboard when I was busy defending nodes, sometimes even winning 1v1’s but still not scoring the big mid brawl kills. I’ve been in games where I scored highest kills but still, all it means is you were at the right place at the right time and knew what to do. You could still technically score highest kills but others did most of the work, all that covers is whom you tagged.

I am not that great of a player myself, but I really think HoT is makin me into a better player. I still have to figure out the pocket raptors, rolling devils and especially the mushrooms in a fight with my thief. That will come over time or they may nerf them a bit (cause man they hit hard).

First of, the weakest class right now is thief, so the mobs might or might not be nerfed but it’s unlikely that it’s because they’re overall really hard – they’re hard for thieves.
Second: Equip Shortbow and Daggerstorm. Use the first against all of them, the second against the raptors. Stay out of red cirles and try to get the rolling devils (that’s these stealth thingys, right?) out of their smoke field and then you’re good =)

On your post: I’m a wvw player – I can do PvE and am fine with that but my love is wvw. So I didn’t really need the expansion- I was happy with how things were. That’s probably why I’m not disappointed in the expansion, but I am a bit disapointed that there has been no balance since June and also wvw is on the brink – because of HoT. Wvw is a complex topic, so it will be hard to figure out what exactly is needed to make it “good” again. Most complaints I have seen are about balance lately. And since wvw is a mess I am in PvE mostly anyway, so I can’t really complain about Proofs of heroics anymore Problem solved, right?

Daggerstorm is useless because you get focused with it and even pocket raptors can live through a full casting of it. It would be a great skill to take out necro minions and mesmer illusions in PvP but…they’re too tanky for that and it’s inferior to the daredevil elite anyway.

Thief is all about proper timing, scorpion wire works to focus down a single raptor though shortbow 2 works to bleed, disengage, repeat. The frog people in the Verdant brink chokepoint were brutal at first but then with sword/dagger and focusing the leaper it gets easier. Haven’t tried staff there yet but I’m sure the weakness from staff 2 would come in handy as well as the staff 4 blind.

As awesome as a crossover with DC sounds they’d need to raise the level cap into the billions since Superman can bench press the Earth for five days without sunlight and take 10 supernovas’ worth of force to the face and there are villains who are able to hurt him without Kryptonite or red sun radiation like Darkseid, Doomsday, and Mongul.

I don’t think I could do all of that grinding.

Skimpy Male Armors Requested

Scallywag and Gladiator are skimpy but “heavy” armor. Some item mall armor sets are skimpy too.

Your fave Character

Easily Zojja and Taimi. Rytlock is kinda cool too. I really like Zojja’s confidence and showing emotion. Taimi is a very sweet character who is full of light and joy. I don’t actively hate any character except for Canach, he just comes across as a big arrogant insolent jerk. And I really hate Faolin. Don’t want to spoil too much but she became an irredeemable betrayer and even back in LS2 was a bad influence on Caithe.

“A lot of players seem to dog her because of how pronounced her disability is, but, well, it is an important part of her character. As someone who suffers from the real life equivalent of her condition (Charcot-Marie Tooth disease), I found her more relatable than others, and a breath of fresh air compared to the likes of Zojja.”

I don’t Taimi relatable (I can clear 8 miles in an hour) but I still like her ^_^ Zojja is very likable but in a different way. She’s determined, smart, and always says or shows how she feels.

Best CPU?

So my setup for GW2 is as follows and I run stable 110 FPS without dips:

Skylake i5 6600k OC’d to 4.5 Ghz
Asus Gene VIII Z170 chipset
LPX Vengeance DDR4 16GB RAM oc’d at 3200~ mhz, CPU ring bus non-OC’d
R9 390 (8GB GDDR5 memory)

Running lower clock speed around 4.0 Ghz only really dropped me 10ish FPS, the most gain I got was running RAM from 2800Mhz to 3200 Mhz and using the R9 390 8Gb card vs. my old 970 GTX w/ “4GB” (3.5GB)

went from 85+ FPS to 110 FPS going from the 970 GTX to an R9 390 w/ double the memory pool

So going from a 670 to a Pascal 1070 should give me a drastic boost from 30fps? I can’t find any new information or rumors on a release date and I don’t want to read TomsHardware because the layout is atrocious by being overly scrunched.

I tried ESO

I didn’t try ESO because so much of what makes Skyrim great simply doesn’t work in MMOs. In Skyrim you can give yourself infinite energy (energy doesn’t give you a combat advantage so it isn’t game breaking just an added convenience) and download good quality player created skins like convincing lightsabers. Skyrim offers great customization and you can randomly be lead by a talking dog into a temple where you’re given a blue fire sword! It’s a good game because it offers flexibility and you can just go nuts.

In MMO’s however you need economic balance due to other people playing the game, which can hamstring fun and class balance becomes important. You can’t have custom mods because a player could create a gamebreaking weapon and totally invalidate a trading post. Things need to be restrained and balanced for a big community, which just isn’t compatible with Elder Scrolls’ strengths.

Who to kill first

in PvP

Posted by: Agemnon.4608

Agemnon.4608

In general, in order of being easiest to kill to the most difficult.

Warrior
Thief (unless this thief is good)
Reaper
Dragonhunter
Power herald
Druid
Scrapper
Tempest
Bunker chrono
Viper rev

This is my experience from amber to ruby. List may vary from match to match.

And that sucks because bunker chrono should be at the top of the kill priority due to their alacrity and illusions messing with targetting.

Easiest to kill also depends on class. Reapers are almost trivial on my druid since I can go into astral form, pop the condition cleanses, interrupt with dazes and black hole, get up my healing, and out of form root with staff, switch to longbow, and keep distant going for rapid fire at a correct moment whereas on a viper Shiro/Mallyx rev reapers are much tougher battles.
