Paypal wont offer protection to your account being sanctioned for using a fraudulent key. Your best bet is to only buy from those on anet’s list of “official” retailers. That includes amazon. If it’s NOT amazon itself selling it, but some random listing on amazon, dont buy it either. No sales yet? Be patient, it’ll happen eventually.

“Sales” from places that arent officially partnered with anet are likely fraudulently purchased keys, which would have an end result of your account being sanctioned (permanently), and you being out more money than what you paid on the key.

Why would anyone want to endure leveling up an Engineer only to find the most ridiculous rotations for mediocore output?

Because Flamethrower!

Who cares if it’s the best damage or not? It’s an effing FLAME THROWER! It’s fun!

(And I suggest you keep the old character, and start over with a new one. Once you’re back into the feel of the game, then you might jump back to the old character.)

It may not be a meta build “best pick” anymore, but with scrapper, I am fully capable of walking around with maximum might by merely holding the flamethrower.

There’s been many changes to underlying systems in that time as well. Even if they had a trait-saving system released with the old trait system, would it have survived the changeover to specializations? Or did they have a system being worked on that was rendered obsolete/defunct as a result of the changeover to specializations, thus resulting in starting over from a day zero point?
Just because it’s been X months/years since Y came out, doesnt mean that Z should have been possible by now Things Change.

I don’t even understand how someone compares the two games; other than the lore itself, aren’t they completely different in terms of play? My understanding is that GW1 is just a single player game where you just happen to have other players in the same world. Can you even team up to do stuff?

Regardless, I find discussions that refer to value for money ridiculous … MMO’s are cheapest form of entertainment you can get, especially non-sub ones like GW2. Your investment is typically PENNIES an hour.

You can, actually. Think GW2’s dungeons/fractals, except on a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar bigger open-world scale.

As an aside, regarding trait saving, what makes you think they ARENT working on it right now? They arent going to say anything about anything if something isnt “done” enough for them to be confident it will make it in game. Remember precursor crafting? There was an update a while ago in which there was a passing mention that a precursor scavenger hunt method they had was completely obliterated by certain story journal changes, and they would have to revisit the methods. Shortly after…. we started raising Mawdrey. The smart (or those with astounding logic leaping ability) people started wondering, correctly, whether Mawdrey was a sort of test of how to acquire precursors in an “easier” way. Then HoT comes and with it precursor crafting.

Gaile’s also said that just because they arent posting anything about ideas being put forward, doesnt mean they arent looking into it. One of her posts gives 3 categories most of the ideas fall under- Not Possible, Technically Impossible/Unfeasible, Not in This Timeframe. Trait saving is likely under the last category.

So to summarize, Sinister is better for shorter fights while Viper is better for longer fights?

Generally speaking, yes. Specifically? Depends, a lot. My guardian’s burning build was capable of exceeding 100% duration to burning without even touching viper stats. At that point, why would I bother reducing my damage in favor of a stat who’s benefit is literally non-existent.

Pretty sure we can also ignore dgraves and report his threads as troll threads at this point. I mean, they never actually become discussions in any point of life.

Aidan Savage.2078

Every account has the exact same chance on RNG.

Then how do you explain a person getting 5 precursors in 20 forges? Luck? Hell no because that same guy will get a precursor drop off a mob in WvW then the next day will get 3 ascended chests and the next day will get another pre off a random mob…. While a person like me can play for 4k hours and not get a single pre.

Time played in the game does not influence whether you will get a precursor drop. Just like someone playing the lottery for 60 years is no more likely to win than someone who has played for one year. You need to take a closer look at probability.

If RNG with the lottery worked the way RNG does in Gw2 then there would be at least a couple people in the world who win the lottery every week. Which doesn’t happen. If it does show me a link then I’ll kitten.

It does. You people just dont understand/want to understand that. Just because someone didnt get the jackpot/precursor, doesnt mean they didnt match 4 or 5 numbers or something (ie dropped a named exotic worth 100g or so).

Beyond that, Ayri is correct that the “time” you logged in game means less than dolyak feces. You could have 20k hours logged in the game, but only actively played for 100 hours. Of those 100 hours, you may have only spent 30 hours combined in the act of killing enemies and looting. Of those 30 hours, you might have only spent 5 of them at level 80, which is the only point you’ve got the highest chance of obtaining a precursor.

Even further, all you tinfoil knights have an uber-massive case of confirmation bias going on. “wah~ JS said we’re all wrong, but all my anecdotal ‘proof’ is 100% true and unassailable. That must mean JS is the one who’s wrong.” Really now guys. You would think the guy saying the same thing for over 2 years would have some ground for SAYING it right? Who am I kidding, these threads are a hop, skip, and a jump away from calling JS the next corporate mouthpiece because he doesnt confirm an obviously false conspiracy.

Aidan Savage.2078

You make the mistake of translating Fury into a precision increase. It is not, and should not be considered one. It’s an “after math” increase wholly independent from precision. This is even more true when stats are downscaled, as fury’s one of the few buffs that down get downscaled as well.

Fury isnt 100% uptime unless your trait/skill cooldown is the same or lesser than the duration of the fury buff. Frankly anything with a low uptime of 30% is irrelevant to the point of insignificance as far as which is better. Take the critical traits from engi’s Firearm line. +10% vs <240 range and/or bleeding targets. Both are conditionals that are never going to have substantial uptime until long after the start of a fight.

So we’ve all heard the “my friend has better RNG than me stories”, and most of us know that computers cannot actually create random numbers, and there must be a ‘random seed’ based off something. And if we put 2 and 2 together, it looks like some accounts have better RNG due to some sort of innate calculation tied to their account.

So the question is this: are we just wearing tinfoil hats, and the fact that my friend with 900 hours in the game has 4 precursors and 2 unlimited bank access contracts. compared to my zero anything over 4.5k hours, is just to be chalked up to RNG? I get that. But how many people can relate to this story? Yes, we all know about biases. But how long are we going to say things like “random is random” (which we know it isn’t), and “your sample size is low” (which by this time, is not), and “you’re not factoring in other variables” (which we are)?

When are we going to actually look at “lucky” accounts (and I use quotes there because we know computers can’t generate random numbers)? Can we start talking about things like “is it right”, and “how can we level out this uneven distribution of wealth through drops?” When can we stop insulting each others’ intelligence, and address the issue at hand?

No they dont. You can put down the tinfoil hat, because JS has repeatedly said this is false. Of course, who the hell’s going to believe an anet employee anyways when they say something contrary to “popular” belief?

Oh, yea, the people who dont buy into conspiracies.

To everyone in this topic… make sure to include traits and BUFFS in your calculations, as they skew the balance.

I just use a spreadsheet.

Traits and buffs only matter if they’re 100% uptime, or near enough to 100% that the difference is negligible.

As for whether power+prec or prec+ferocity (you cannot simply assume a single stat for this, as precision is essentially the determining factor) being better, it depends at which point you have enough precision to have a substantial critical rate, and then enough power to ferocity to make the most of said critical rate.

IMO, once you’re able to maintain a ~75% or higher critical rate, I’d start looking at more ferocity over power as you’ve got a substantially higher ability to inflict damage from using ferocity. Though, the balance probably starts to tip once you’re at 51% or higher critical rate.

Are both components of confusion damage (both the DOT and active effects) rolled in together in the damage list? I was thinking maybe the tick damage might be getting represented separately, and engineers and mesmers both have access to confusion…

I’m disinclined to think it’s the “active” portion of damage from confusion. Remember, the breakdown says it only inflicted damage once, while confusion had 8 hits. It’d make sense if the confusion ticks were 20k or something.

5k AP requirement for level 32 fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Even the people who use it know it’s a ridiculous system that doesn’t actually tell them anything except that this person has been in the game longer than a month or so.

Especially considering most achievement points are gained by playing PvE, and often relatively easy PvE like exploring open-world maps and doing the story, or totally unrelated things like jumping puzzles.

If they could they’d be demanding a gear check, or DPS score or whatever else you can judge people on in other games. But they can’t so they settle for what they can judge you on. It’s the “grown up” equivalent of kids whose school brings in a uniform so they can’t judge each other on their clothes, so they judge you on your bag or where you buy your notebook instead.

And yes, even for easy content. You’ll sometimes see the same thing for story mode dungeons.

If you’re not interested in that type of elitist you’re best off just ignoring any party with an AP requirement.

Been in the game for longer than a month is actually not an unreasonable expectation for scale 32 fractal. That requires 29 AR. It takes about a month for 2 rings, 2 accessories and an amulet from pristine relics, laurels and guild commendations. That gives you 25 AR which is still a bit less than 29.

You can get an amulet from both PvP and HoT story achievements. Theres also the potion from the fractal vendor that gives 10 AR. You can also do the mastery track for the mistlock singularity for another 5 which took me a couple weeks after starting to get. Also there’s a large chance to get an attuned ring since you’ll have enough AR to do the 21-50 dailies and you’ll most likely be able to infuse it right away. A month is plenty of time to get enough AR for scale 32.

Incorrect about The Alba Tear potion. It doesnt give you 10 AR. If you have 0-9 AR, it ADJUSTS you to 10 AR. Notice how it says it doesnt stack with other sources of AR?

Every single time. It’s like you don’t realize that Anet does not make gemstore armours anymore and all armours are obtainable as “in-game rewards”, meaning you need to finish collections of course. (Because they love their kitten collections, whoever thought flooding PvE with collections is a good idea.)

Then again, whatever. Just don’t buy gems with money, but them with gold.

Mostly because people forget, every single time, that armor sets generally only come out with content updates. And get reminded, every, single, time.

As for the collections bit, you could consider them a “meta-quest” or something of that sort.

Finally, why? Why should this happen? This wouldnt make fights dynamic, it’d either make them needlessly complex, or utterly boring.

Frankly it’s going to be expensive either way, whether moreso in gold, or in time invested. As for map completion, it’s more easily doable if you use a durable character. Just aim to complete one map, or even just half a map, each day, and you’ll finish map completion in a month or so. Harvest as you go as well, as you’ll want many of those resources for the legendary gifts as well.

Yes, I think so.

It’s true that many achievements can be cheesed (teleports, work-arounds, skips, glides, etc) and it’s true that many feel like grind or luck. Still, to the extent that they mean anything at all…they mean you actually went to the trouble of figuring out how to get credit in some way, shape, or form.

Plus: can you imagine the bookkeeping to track what you’ve finished for real versus what you’ve traded? And wow, the mind boggles thinking about the nightmare that would be customer service: “why didn’t I receive credit for ____?”

You forgot the most heinous part: how easy it would be to get Yakslapper.

Not much of a secret, in various quotes and interviews with magazines Anet themselves said they would not be revamping Zhaitan a long time ago and revamping core area was not something they wanted to do, despite realising themselves they did not get ZHaitan right.

I am in favour of the OP’s suggestion, but in light of comments made by Anet themselves on multiple occasions, I do not see this situation changing.

Even if they hadn’t have commented over the years, if LS1 is something they have been unable to fit into their schedule, logic dicates a defeated boss of past content is highly unlikely to see light of day

And yet, Tequatl. I have no idea how Teq is still around if Zhaitan is dead.

Zones are locked in time. That’s true of all zones, pretty much. Orr is still pre-Zhaitan’s death. Drytop is right when the Zephyrite’s crash.

It’s all locked in time that’s how.

But isn’t the lore behind teq’s mechanics change that teq got more powerful because he soaked up a bunch of magic after zhaitan died?
Or am I going crazy?

She.* But I’m fairly certain that was the lore behind the Tequatl Rising update.

I think the stated reasoning is that for anything that can be applied only once to an account (or limited times as in bank slots), it can be a real mess to untangle excess gifts so the sender doesn’t waste the gems. Though I did read a comment about someone who had a glider gifted to him/her that s/he already had, so that one may have slipped through.

So why not make it so that if they did already have it they simply regift it or return it to the sender with a message saying they already have it the sender could just get the gem value for back. Great point though.

Doesnt work sadly. It’s simply easier to say “Sorry, this is a non-transferrable service/item.” It’s also a seriously much smaller can of wurms being opened.

Giftable Items and Services

I think more items should be giftable to friends in the Black Lion Trading company. If could buy my friends additional character slots, upgrade their accounts to the paid version, buy them outfits or gliders skins, and anything that would upgrade their account and/or make them want to play the game more. This would drive in more players and current players would have more of their friends willing to play. I have friends who I’d love to buy and gift things to that can’t afford them.

P.S I’m assuming since this is my first time using a forum that I will get a lot of negative feedback because most people are just rude! Just keep in mind I would rather NOT use a forum because of this but I wanted my suggestion heard and it seems this is the only way to make that happen.

The upgrades you mentioned, as well as others, are NOT giftable for a very good, legitimate, and sound reason. The gem store has zero ability to see whether or not the account you’re gifting to has that specific thing unlocked already (or at maximum limit) or not. So things like character slots, bank expacs, deluxe upgrade, etcs, which DO have maximum limits on purchases for an account, cant be gifted. Nothing would suck more than gifting someone a few bag slots, or a deluxe upgrade, or a jumpstart, to find out they bought it an hour before you sent it. Guess what? They cant use it, you cant get your gems back.

Engineer’s Slick Shoes (Utility Skill)

The reason is that these proc Multiple instance of Knockback/Knockdown respectively, and since the distance/duration isn’t taken into consideration when calculating Break Bar Damage (To my knowledge), Multiple Procs trumps Stronger CC skills. (This, however, isn’t true for Duration-based CC such as Dazes and Stuns).
Aside from those two, Fear is the most powerful CC condition, more so than Taunt or Slow.

So in your case, I’d play either Revenant, Engineer or Necromancer.

The stronger the hard CC, the more effective it is. While I dont know if the numbers are accurate above, I will mention that I’ve been able to strip around half the breakbar on mossman with banish (at upper tiers). Additionally, hard CCs can be more effective
simply because it’s a bigger strip in less time.
