Lack of valuable loot

Aidan Savage.2078

There is a fix to this that allows the drop rate of “valuable” stuff to increase without causing inflation in the game, and thats simply to implement loot wear.
eg if you get a super dooper weapon from a drop, then as you use it in battle , its stats slowly fall, and each time you get it repaired the repair costs go up exponentially.
After a while, the weapon becomes so expensive to keep repairing, that you will have to get a new one.
Same with armour and all other stuff thats deemed to be “valuable”, whatever that means.

I’m sorry, but that’s kittening insane. If it was stuff exotic or lower quality, then I’d POSSIBLY consider agreeing. But for everything to wear out? kitten. No. I am not going to spend 2-3 thousand gold crafting a legendary, on top of close to 600 gold crafting my ascended set (probably more if I included the several stat swaps I’ve done), to have to craft them all over again because some dingus though it was a brilliant idea to implement breakable (or functionally breakable) gear.

wait if hot comes with the base game, i should have it! since.. you know.. i have the base game

SERIOUSLY faulty logic. A HoT key is the expansion WITH the base game. You merely bought the base game. You are going to get HoT because it WASNT a HoT key you purchased.

If they let people keep access to it, then come this time next year what will those people want to do?

If memory serves, people had an occupy SAB thing going on around this time last year sooo, your point might be unfounded since there was no SAB last year…can’t even say it’ll be recurring after this.

People ask this every time it turns up, and every time they take it away again, i doubt this time will change anything..

Sorry to say.

Eh..Might point above sorta stands. Last year is evidence that they might not do it every year…So why not do the smart thing and make some bank on it…They put a good amount of real work into a gag…And it caught on. lol Bunch of downers can’t bring this idea down, but Anet can…and like you said, probably will.

To that end, they better get that money now because how many people will be around next April? No on can say, but if they keep on with the usual stuff, people will stop playing their game, and by proxy, stop buying gems which after the initial cost, is their only income (and some stuff in the store but I don’t bother with shirts/books/plushies lol). People will support what they love, and drop cash on it in support…you just have to beliiiiieeeeve!

Last year they couldnt do it because they had more important kitten to do than to rework the physics n crap inside SAB just to get it out last year.

Also, since it’s a FESTIVAL now, the odds are extremely high it’s going to come back next year.

i just bought the heroic edition for 20 dollars. where is the upgrade for heart of thorns? i looked everywhere. i found a page in the faq about upgrading, but the page doesn’t exist. do i have to re buy the game again? i really dont want to spend 40 MORE dollars

could someone point me in the right direction? thanks.

Contact whoever you bought the heroic edition from for a refund. The herioc, collectors, deluxe, etc, versions DO NOT CONTAIN Heart of Thorns. You’re going to have to buy a HoT key (yes, pay $40 again) to access it. Those are outdated serials that people are likely selling at a discount to get rid of them.

Once you get your refund, buy a serial key from Anet’s site itself- http://buy.guildwars2.com/

Hang on a minute – I was on here a few days back asking about getting enough currency together to buy the backpack and 1 weapon ( im a useless jumper) I was given the impression I couldn’t collect anything in Infantile mode – so I can? and more than once a day?

Palador is saying farm baubles in normal mode, and then use infantile mode to GET the purse.

If the issue is the matrix key disappearing from your inventory when some other player uses it, wouldn’t the simplest solution be to…no longer have the key disappear unless it’s used?

However, I don’t think it’s a big enough issue for ANet to work on anytime soon.

I believe the reason it does so, is so that players cant repeatedly farm the steam ogre by charging 20-30 keys in one go.

In addition to what reikken said, most builds using burning capitalize on the high intensity as a spike condition, rather than a timed condition.

And Wallaby, I used to run a burn guardian in sinister gear. I had maxed burning duration, and with the right environment in the fight, I could get 7-8k burns easily. It did lean heavily on rotations rather than other things.

Lack of valuable loot

Aidan Savage.2078

Before you guys jump in to say again that if they drop more often, then they lose their value, then so be it! Introduce more loot after that that are valuable when the current batch of valuables lose their value!

Loot doesn’t need to remain valuable forever! they can be replaced with newer equally valuable items after they lose their value!
The important thing is to let PvE players feel the exhilaration from finding a VALUABLE item!

Except if they kept adding more crap to be looted, there’s no DEFINITIVE way to make it valuable outside of npc value. Additionally, if they kept adding more crap to be looted, it also means you’re less and less likely to GET the “better” loot. Value is, in large part, solely determined by players, not Anet. That’s why you have precursors that were at one point worth over what, 1800g? And also why you have precursors as cheap kitten gold. All about the collective determination of value by players.

Why i wont level in gw2 anymore.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

As a vet leveler due to playing self-imposed permadeath rules (way over 200 restarts) I cannot agree more with all of these points. It would be great if I could level and earn gold just from killing stuff I run into (yes I know you can do this but the XP and gold is woeful and it would take many months to level to 80 just by killing random mobs).

Actually, with the boosters, and once you’ve got a streak going, killing neutral mobs (not white ambient mobs) can garner a hideous amount of xp in seconds. I can attest to that because that’s how i finished Advanced Logistics in about 2 hours. Outside of the CoF farm.

Lack of valuable loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Lack of valuable loot is really killing my interest in doing PvE.
Most games/game modes are the same. Kill monsters and gain loot.

Loot makes up a huge part of the game IMO.

I really need better and more valuable loot dropping =/

And dropping for solo play too. Not where I need to form teams for raids or join large groups to kill world bosses.

I really need solo play good loot drops.

I’m referring to loot that is worth 100+ to 1000s of gold.
Like precursors etc.
I’ve played for 2+ years and only got 1 precursor drop.
Other then that 1 precursor, I have got no other drops that is worth more than 50 gold by itself.

That is so sad! 2 Years!

Valuable loot IS valuable precisely because it does not drop often, or is a desired skin/stat/whatever, or both. Honestly, who the hell gives a kitten if you dont drop something worth 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 gold once a week? Raw materials are what make up the bulk of the gold anyone makes in the game anyways.

Oh, and congratulations on looting a precursor off a corpse. I’ve played for over 2 years and the best thing I’ve looted off a corpse was a champ bag that gave me an ascended box.

Compensation regarding scribe/decorations?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

I’m happy to read that Anet have decided to lower the cost of scribing/guildhall decorations.

But,
What about those who spent way too much money on this already?

Idea:
Give the guildhall double-up on all decorations crafted before this was announce (1st April).

Alternative, players like me who have supported you in this journey and bought 30.000+ gems and converted them to gold over the past months to be able to level scribe and fill guildhall up, – maybe give some of those gems back as compensation?

You wont get anything. The only time, that I’m aware of, they gave something in return to an announced change, was when they removed MF from gear stats. It’s like"waa~ waa~ they changed something, I must demand compensation" has become the community’s slogan or something.

ICD reduction on sigils

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

I mean, I think some of the 1-2s ICDs are there BECAUSE they don’t want higher speed weapons to outclass slower ones. You already get the advantage of being able to more reliably land attacks, why do you need to stack might faster too?

I don’t get your reasoning for buffs too, you just say “25% instead of 20%” but why? Are the sigils weak in their current state or you just like that number better?

It’s better to not ask. Dgraves has shown a penchant for scientology math. Discuss the premise of the OP by all means, just not the numbers that really wont make any sense to anyone but the OP.

RNG is RNG. And yes, it DOES suck to be you. PVP is a game mode that has very little in the way of drops. PVE is where the vast majority are. So you want the better drops? Do pve. That being said, I’ve had… 3 hoards, 4-5 wurm chests, 5 ascended weapon boxes, around 8 ascended armor chests, and 9 precursors.

Refund policy is offensive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Mo axes future legendaries, OP decides they want a refund. Lel. Demanding a refund because some kittenty weapon set hasnt been fully released and because WvW’s changes havent yet been released (LATER THIS MONTH YOU FOOLS ) is frankly insane.

The first you linked trogdor was someone who prepurchased, and probably didnt apply the key. The second was a post-release basis for 30 days after release iirc. OP doesnt fit either case, not for a loooooooooooooooong while. So yea, if they want a refund of HoT, they’re losing their account.

If you’re in EU just refund them and then take them to court to sue them for your additional losses. It’s an EU law that a refund is not allowed to impact joint purchases to that refund unless it came in a set. So for them to refund you $50 for your $200 total purchases is robbery.

Refund them for the $50 HoT, then take them to court and refund for the additional $150, also inform your bank of the situation because depending on the bank, if you explain the policy and how it breaches EU law they will chargeback the money for you.

It would be a loss in court. Pretty sure that EU law doesnt apply in this situation either, not entirely at least. As for a chargeback? Yea, that’s a very quick way to have your account 100% shut down and your payment method blacklisted, if not your personal information blacklisted. That being said, if you want to flaunt the “unassailable law” card, you need to be able to source it as well.

Outfits Vs. Armour Skins

The other consideration people are forgetting about is that the team was likely responsible for the modifications and/or corrections of the CURRENT legendary collections as well. That being said, it’s possible that they werent working on just putting out one legendary, but essentially 24 legendaries, 23 of those are revisional changes done to events that require failures instead of successes (due to needed events requiring certain outcomes), items requiring different acquisition methods, etc. Such changes would also be to the latest legendary on a pre-release fashion.

SAB will come back, Anet has unilaterally confirmed that (or said it’s something they WANT to come back, cant remember). They never said when it would come back Lot of game changes since then mean they’d have to change SAB anyways so that it meshes with the new physics parameters in the game. Plus they’d have to code it as a “no glide” zone.

People quitting the game in droves doesn’t improve the game either. If there was something to stop the hemorraghing of players in the form of a gift you would be against it?

Do you have numbers and actual proof of these “droves”?

I think it is pretty obvious with the general discontent on the forums, which has pretty much been the case since the following week after HoT release. The endless dump truck of gem store items to keep the revenue stream going with no steady content updates also indicates they are understaffed and not making enough money.

I’ll admit its speculation and nothing more, but the same trend was happening with WoW shortly after WoD was released… lots of moaning on the forums and then when the quarterly subscriber numbers were released the next year, they were abysmal.

No, no it isnt. The majority of discontent on the forums are from people who have nothing better to do than kitten about everything. The people who dont care, or arent really that upset? They’re content to keep playing the game like they did before the announcement. That’s why all the kitten threads. It’s the clear minority doing their hardest at rabble-rousing.

Aidan Savage.2078

The only part I agree on is that from a management position it was probably a logical choice, not because of how many ppl that make a legendary tho, but more because apparently it takes 5 months for a single legendary. This precursor scavenger hunt was probably one of their worst mistakes with GW2.

Don’t we have those quests for all old Legendarys ? So if one quest needs 5 month
they must have started 3 years before release of HoT with them.

Oh and if that team of 6 needs 5 months for one scavanger hunt, how many
content will they be able to bring into the living world ? 1 episode every 6 months ?

You forget that the team working on future legendaries was more than likely the same team working on the collection problems for the current legendaries. That means they didnt have just 1 to work on, but 23-24 or whatever.

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Because there’s shortbows and longbows IRL. Ones faster and more suited for active combat while the other snipes from long distance. If you used both you’d probably find the longbow more uncomfortable to use because of its size and it’s not as easy to pull back.

Also… so there’s 2 different bars of bow skills. IMO Thief and Ranger shoulda both started with access to both weapons on GW2 release. It was a rather common Assassin weapon in GW1.

To be fair, ANY class could use ANY weapon in GW1. You could be a ranger running around with a scepter/focus if you wanted to.

That people are angry, I do get that but what makes me sad is that there are so many rude people who are cursing and blaming Anet for being all kind of monsters without any facts and to little information.

That’s because Anet hasn’t provided any facts or information. People want accountability when promises aren’t kept. What was the real allocation of resources on the legendary weapons project? How many of the weapons have been worked on and what percentage of ready are they? There is NO WAY a team has taken 5+ months to only have 1 weapon to show for it. If so the management of that team is way off kilter because to finish the rest of the weapons would take another 4 and a half years!!! At some point someone managing them would have had to step up and say – ‘What in the world are you guys doing?! You need help or what?!’

Probably because those same 5 or 6 people are also fixing the broke-kitten kitten for the current collections as well?

I’ve put some thought into this and decided that the statement “6 devs” is probably false. I refuse to believe that six people have been working primarily on legendaries since HoT released, and have failed to produce any content. This is simply unfathomable to me, to the point that I don’t believe it is true.

These devs have more likely been working on other projects, and have had some occasional involvement with the legendaries. Being pulled from one project to another constantly, and never able to focus. I believe we’re seeing the result of that.

Go read some glassdoor reviews; ANet suffers from serious management and structural problems. This is obvious to anyone who has worked in a mismanaged office before. The symptoms are all there. I was a logistics and e-commerce manager for a shoe company for many years. I have seen first hand just how much time can be wasted when the executive team has you doing senseless kitten and confusing your employees. I believe ANet’s studio is basically a Dilbert comic.

I do not trust this company anymore.

You forget those devs were probably also the same people fixing the issues with the CURRENT collections?

I would really and truly love for the people threatening to sue to actually do so. Pay 4-500 dollars or equivalent currencies per hour to get back if very very lucky the price you paid for the game. You would need to find an incompetent judge and somehow have the company not delay matters with contesting the verdict but heh, stranger things happen.
They could legally according to the contract you agreed to turn every character into pink fuzzy slippers and the goal of the game would be to find the perfect feet to fit on and you could get squat back.

That might happen in the US, but in the UK there is the ‘The Consumer Rights Act 2015’ that is a law passed by the UK Parliament, that is there to protect the consumer, we have very strict laws here when it comes to consumer rights. And this is a basic snap shot of what it states.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
The Consumer Rights Act came into force on 1 October 2015 which meant from that date new consumer rights became law covering:

What should happen when goods are faulty;
What should happen when digital content is faulty;

[How services should match up to what has been agreed, and what should happen when they do not, or when they are not provided with reasonable care and skill;] This here applies to what Mike said.

Unfair terms in a contract;
What happens when a business is acting in a way which isn’t competitive;
Written notice for routine inspections by public enforcers, such as Trading Standards; and greater flexibility for public enforcers, such as Trading Standards, to respond to breaches of consumer law, such as seeking redress for consumers who have suffered harm.

Most of these changes were important updates to existing laws. But two new areas of law were also introduced.

For the first time rights on digital content have been set out in legislation. The Act gives consumers a clear right to the repair or replacement of faulty digital content, such as online film and games, music downloads and e-books. The law here had been unclear and this change has brought us up to date with how digital products have evolved.

There are now also new, clear rules for what should happen if a service is not provided with reasonable care and skill or as agreed.

[For example, the business that provided the service must bring it into line with what was agreed with the customer or, if this is not practical, must give some money back.] This also applies to what was announced by Mike.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 stands alongside Regulations to create a greatly simplified body of consumer law. Taken together, they set out the basic rules which govern how consumers buy and businesses sell to them in the UK.
——————————————————————————————————————————-
Personally I won’t take legal action, not worth the effort, I just will not buy anything again from Anet, but I have no doubt some will as it is UK law. I believe a simple gift of a few hundred gems to all that bought HoT would quell a lot of the anger.

Considering you’re paying for ACCESS to the game (IE the Service), not the content IN the service…… Are you able to access it? Yes? Law doesnt help you anymore.

It isnt “tactical” to sit on a longbow going pewpew at an immobile boss with predictable attacks. Being a ranger is MORE than using a longbow. That you think it’s only so means you dont understand how anet’s even using the name to describe the class. And frankly I dont care about rangers. They suck balls compared to GW1’s rangers.

The issue is not that they took it away. The issue is more so that they MISLEAD us and changed the facts after we paid.

“Hey, friend, I have 400 ecto. Would you like 400 ecto?”

“Yes I would like 400 ecto. Here, have 100 gold.”
“Cool, here’s 200 ecto.”
“What about the other 200?”
“Go kitten yourself, not in the budget.”

You’d be ticked and you know it.

Edit: stupid autocorrect

They didnt mislead you. They did bring out new legendaries. Was it the full set? No, not considering the amount of work for the collections. An even bigger NO when you consider the fact that some events needed for the CURRENT collections had to be fixed, altered, or swapped out entirely. They’d have to create the new collections with those issues in mind, resulting in something that could come out in a month or so taking 3 or more because of linked problems. They deemed that amount of work too high of a cost.

Like the saying goes, “kitten kittening happens.” Remember the precursorcraftinggate2013 or whatever the kitten people called it? kitten happened, the current system got scrapped, and they started working from day 0 again. Similar scenario, except they decided to simply scrap it for now, and devote the manpower somewhere else.

So….the stuff you advertised when selling us the expansion isn’t actually going to happen….Nice….you sold this to us for 50$ for 4 maps, a rushed storyline that makes little sense, Gutted guild halls, elite specs, an incomplete raid, 1/4 of the legendary weapons you promised us, and promises of future LS content………..Unless the next expansion is phenomenal in every way that HOT wasn’t, i’m going to pass. FINISH YOUR CONTENT BEFORE YOU SELL IT.

Gw2 was released with half a map for god’s sake, by now we had 3 full continents in gw1, this is getting rediculous.

Frankly you had your expectations set waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high. Also, GW1 only had ONE large region. Mind you, that’s GW:P I’m talking about. GW:F and GW:N each had one large region as well, however, they WERENT the same game.

Hardly. You paid for access to it. Do you get it if you didnt pay? No. In pretty much ANY mmo in existence, you’ll find that there’s language in the EULA/ToC that amounts to “you paid only for access to the service/product,” not “you paid for something you THINK you should get.”

edit: In fact, from Section 2.a from the gw2 EULA:

You further acknowledge that Your full or partial access to Content, including one or more Message Boards, Teams or Items is conditioned upon Your compliance with the provisions of this agreement and the Rules of Conduct. ArenaNet may modify, remove, or add Content in its reasonable discretion.

I think Ulgoth was meant to be the culiminate that story. He could use a re-work though like other bosses. The problem is, to finish it truly in this “living, breathing world” would require removing centaur related events and quests and replacing them. That isn’t within scope of what is going to be achieved.

Despite any claim to the contrary, GW2 is a very linear story and the narrow thread we run along for the story will always conflict with wanting to flesh out some of the interesting world stories.

To be fair, the maps we have generally are “stuck” in the time period before the end of the personal story. Hence the cyclical nature of the events (and because one-offs suck [cough marionette cough]).

It’s a known request. This is all anet’s going to tell us until it’s ready to be shipped, or they’ve come to the conclusion it’s wholly impossible to do.

Bolding my own to highlight the point soooooooooooooooo many of you people miss.

Then we shipped precursor journeys for existing legendaries, and said, “We’ve been working hard on new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.” While I fully get that you’re disappointed today, this is not about us shipping half an expansion pack.

Actually Mike, the specific wording was:

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns heralds the beginning of the *first new set of legendary weapons to be added to the game since its original set of twenty included in the launch of Guild Wars 2. The first three we’ll release are a celestially themed axe called Astralaria, an experimental energy themed pistol called H.O.P.E., and a raven spirit themed staff called Nevermore. It takes a lot of work to craft these legendary journeys for release, so rather than take the time to develop the full set before releasing any of them, we will be releasing new legendary weapons in small groups at regular intervals until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game.

Is there not a legal obligation to provide paying customers with the things that were advertised as being part of the expansion but to be released at a later date?

No, not really. You paid for /access/ to the full game.

I’m not sure if it’s still obtainable, but you have an unlockable skill point (krait obelisk) from LS1 I believe. If you’ve got other stuff in your Home Instance that you farm, might be worth looking into getting.

Sugg- Ascended Armor Stats

Re-quoting this because the OP seems seriously hell-bent on ignoring this fact in favor of continuing his argument.

That would make ascended armor mandatory where it is now mostly optional.

That in turn would open a whole other can of problems.

As is, ascended armor offers min/maxers a nice goal while it keeps the actual requirements to stay competative reasonable. Not sure I agree with the idea to buff ascended armor.

There would be nothing wrong with ascended armor falling in line with weapons and trinkets. It’s more than fair or reasonable, and the cost alone justifies the stat increase.

The only players who would complain are those unwilling to build a set.

Except you misunderstand one key thing. Ascended trinkets have the upgrade component’s stats BUILT INTO them. That’s why they ONLY have the infusion slots, while armor and weapons still have upgrade slots, and why they seem to have a massive jump in stats.

IMO it’s less power creep and more of a synergy creep than anything. Many of the elite spec lines, by themselves, are not too different than what the standard lines are. It’s when you mix the two, such as with a Dragonhunter, that you get something a bit more disgusting-1man solo breakbars, pull-trap with a barrier leading to a trap that does insane damage if you cross it and cripples you, all the while more traps that keep you from stealthing, inflicts high vulnerability, and does insane amounts of damage.

If you never logged out and sat there 24/7 and only did that fight, then perhaps it could…. but normally you won’t see dr.

Even then it can. Back when teq was a 2 hour spawn, I used to do 4-5 teqs a day. After about a week, I’d stop getting anything better than the fine chest (and exotic for the first run of the day). Mind you, this was also interspersed with fractals, dungeons, and other random crap.
