It is kinda sad when you like a game mode, watch it fall, then try to help by pointing out what went wrong only to be ignored.
After a while what happens? Everyone feels jaded, everyone quits, then everyone watches the train wreck and waits to say………..

Just make a king of the hill event in open terrain with slight (and I mean slight elevation in the center with a circle/flag to camp.
Make ppk x5 for 30 minutes every 2-3 hours and let the event rotate borderlands.
This will be more wvw oriented without the gimmicks and without gathering (gathering anything over and over is the bane of all games, why add it to the group pvp area at all?)
i actually made a post on the ehmry forum just to see officially where everyone went. I wanted to know if people were still around and I didn’t see them when I play, took a break until ANET fixed stuff, or actually quit and too many of the answers were actually quit. I was quite saddened by this.
We are not a top tier server population-wise but we are by no means a bottom tier server either. At our highest peak with all wvw-oriented guilds and zerg busting guilds we were able to muster enough people to beat Mag and Crystal Dessert, which we simply cannot come close to covering now. Even then, i doubt we would have had enough to do EBG, and other maps, they are simply too big and too disgusting to travel too.
Well, adding of ppk could help.
Since number of kills is recorded and accumulates points for the weekly score you could simply add achievements for number of kills per week, month, etc…Titles, bags, rewards just as in AP’s for collections, slayer, etc.
Only difference is make it repeatable, similar to 200 items salvaged. Thus, if you roam and kill = point, kill 5 with an ac = 5 points toward the achievement and reward for defending, etc…This may bring more pve’rs (AP hunters) to wvw which is dying fast.
Just make tiers of achievements doable, not like pre-HoT yakslapper or something crazy like kill 6 billion yaks.
I know there is already a category for this but it is a long term goal and once reached, then what? Make weekly, monthly, etc repeatable achievements with chests for rewards is my idea.
I think the majority of ppl want the old maps back. Some like the new. I guess just make everyone happy and put them in rotation like you said you were going to from the beginning. Or, really shock me and just put wvw back to alpine until you get ur kitten together, start communicating better, and get the imaginary overhaul close enough to being usable (after asking real wvw players from each tier, EACH tier what they want, compile a frikkin list for once, let players vote on it) and then implement it.
and p.s. just erase the frikkin middle unless you put a large stadium-like, round, 3 entrance place for people to fight with no pve interruptions or stupid swithbacks, similar to the alter where the laser is on the tower behind the stonebreaker guy in eotm.

I feel the opposite Straegen. But i totally agree that the damage is done. I still see no scrambling or sense of urgency. All these announcements about changes were simple, coulda-shoulda-been-done-already minor adjustments. Golden opportunity wasted to address/communicate greater comprehension about what needs to be done and what direction to take.
Its like a patient comes in with MRSA and instead okittennowledging that it exists or talking to the pt about it, they say Hey, we are gonna take out this splinter that WE stuck under your fingernail. Then saying “See, doesn’t that feel better?”

if the holder of the banner is not just a mindless zergling too tho, they will play it when you have committed to a bridge/choke in which rolling out is either not possible or leads to other negative effects

A sigil/rune dissolving salvage-o-matic for the blue and green items (so i dont have to slide and confirm delete all day long cause lord knows i am not gonna find a merchant for 5 silver) + and auto mat deposit
exchangeable rune/sigil slot for ascended and legendary armor/weapons
Its silly to have practically all the legendaries and still have 2-3 copies of each of the ascended weapons just to carry extra runes/sigils for certain situations.
Why do I want the old maps back?
I like to siege up and defend bay
I like to retake sw camp
I like to be able to get to places within my lifetime on a map that should be built for fights, not for scenery (which is ugly anyway)
I like groups trying to defend sw camp and pull people to the choke to fight
I like saying, yeehawww and running in the choke when I know that is exactly what they want me to do, but i am a rebel and a rally-bot and proud of it
I like defending towers that have strategic value so the enemy can’t build trebs
I like having a fully fortified sw or se tower and then having epic fights at the enemy spawn to keep it gleaming and beautiful
I like when the enemy has upgraded my southern towers and there are epic fights there + spawn to take it back.
What I do not like is gimmicks; taller things to fall from, switchbacks that are longer to traverse than it would have taken to run north – south on the old bl’s, AI junk that is not controlled by an enemy player, pve crap in the center, gathering nodes that everyone stops at while doing wvw stuff
Someone else said this earlier and I didn’t realize I felt this way until it sunk in but….i dislike the desert borderland sooo much that I don’t really want it. Even if it cost my server a ppt victory, they can have it and they can keep it. I am not spending six hours just to take back a fully fortified southern tower that means nothing.
But, i also feel stuck in ebg all the time too.
The old alpine maps felt more like a home, they could of used a little fresh paint, but overall they were mine and nobody is taking my home. Ebg was just for fights and SM but it never felt like home either.
Give me back my home ANET. I will even make an epic RP guild for EB (CoT) and Woe to join because that was always their true dream anyway, but we need to go back to the place we grew up in.

There was a lot of signs that they were trying to make wvw more inclusive and welcoming to players (in their minds ofc), remember the reset move debacle and all the talk about metrics and how more people would play on sat etc etc.
It would probably help if they implemented big changes temporarily if blind metrics are all they are gonna go by. Then there is no shame in resetting things back to the way they were when they realize the metrics were slightly…….wayyy off.
When you own a business you never never never shaft your loyal, old patients (customers) for the sake of getting more more more. They are the ones that keep the lights on while the new put the food on the table.

Great stats to demonstrate things we all have been saying. While sad, because we have all seen the impact of the expansion, at least they cannot justify or wrongfully justify the need to keep those maps based on some hidden metric that are about as useful as tarot cards. Those cards also said that a saturday reset would be more….popular?

I think a lot of the issues you are seeing is due to a loss of original talent and shackled hands of those that can fix issues properly.
Besides that, there was an embarrassing attempt at making an expansion that probably didn’t hit the market the way they wanted. Play the way you want died with the expansion and everything became gated. PvP’rs do not like pve, WvW’s do not like pve, and pve’rs will stop doing pve if the rewards are unsatisfying and everything is on a rigid schedule to accomplish anything. BUT, if you don’t buy the expansion and you don’t do the pve you CANT get some of the runes/recipes for wvw, guild hall upgrades, etc….thus people stopped playing and those left do not care if they get banned and cheat because they see no future anyway.
Sad really, but i do not blame them. If you are gonna go out, might as well go out with a bang.
They are really just out of touch with a large portion of their player-base or at least 2 of the 3 (2.5 i should say) game modes.
And lastly, communication is so poor between players and devs that people, again, just say “why bother?”

You do not necessarily have to have a concrete answer for any/all just acknowledgement of the issues.
What irks players the most is simple replys such as “we are aware of many of your issues” with no issues mentioned or we “hear you loud and clear and are working on it for a future _______”

We do seem to have a new issue to go along with an old issue with ac’s.
Since most players know that wall positioning is helpful it is never guaranteed to be far enough away from certain aoe attacks. One solution to this was to simply build the ac inside the tower and aim for the door.
As most people know, the revenant hammers were able to pierce walls/doors and attack players/ac’s that were completely behind or obstructed by a wall. It seemed to be partially fixed for a while but i am noticing it coming back again. In addition, engi’s are able to attack through gates at internal siege similar to how omega golems were able to shoot over the door.
Is this intentional or bugged?
WvW big overhaul later this year will be too late…:(
This, and the sad part is WvW in GW2 could be absolutely epic compared to any other MMO in history. Many games have tried hard to have the kind of pvp participation that WvW has attracted here in Gw2 and its an opportunity missed if its not saved and expanded upon.
And if something is going on I’d be sharing that with the community and praying it helps to slow the exodus that is, and has been occurring….

One game was better a few years ago called Archlord. The whole world was open pvp with the exception of towns and cities unless you agreed to gvg with another guild.
So the leveling and item acquisition was similar to roaming and the fight for the 4 castles was similar to ebg. It was simply concentrated at finite objectives though where fights HAD to occur for victory rather than ring around the rosie, pocket full of karma.
GW2 WvW was certainly a close second but i have only been here just shy of 2 years thus I may not have seen the climax of what wvw can be.
What i HAVE seen though is a steady progression in the wrong direction and dwindling participation over that time… especially since HoT.
Too little communication and predictable ANET behavior is not very hopeful that things will improve but yes, if it occurs at the end of the year, it will be much too late.
Constructive portion:
-return old bl’s until patch/ overhaul is ready
-keep the desert bl as an alternative eotm if you want to keep the map or simply cycle it in with old maps if you must but 9/10 wvw’ers would prefer the map just get trashed.
-tell us what you are planning regardless of your “policy” which is just a red herring tactic anyway
-if you cannot give ‘any’ information about what you are planning then tell us what you ‘cannot do’ ; e.g. "we cannot bring back old bl’s; we cannot fix population without erasing servers, etc… it doesn’t have to be breathtaking admissions or amazing preludes just SOMETHING

I use to play archlord and every major city had a small arena that allowed for pvp and was open to anyone and any level. Just enter and you are consenting to it. It was a great way to practice, play king of the hill (that is just what i called it), try gear out, etc..without having to queue up or play in a group.
Before people wanted much bigger map so players can’t run back in fight after death.
i would actually like the opposite. Perhaps a short amount of time each day or every 3-4 hours in which spawns open up within close proximity to each other on a semi-open terrain so ppk can really factor in. If you don’t wanna fight, go out the other side paths, but if you do….its right there waiting for you.

I get so tired of guilds “farming bags” as if something in them was actually worth anything.
Also, if I hear people saying PPT doesn’t matter because “we are here just for fights” you forget about the hard work others are doing to put you in a tier to get your fights at a somewhat competitive level.
I played mostly for a guild in Ebay and watched them go from amazing and dedicated to lackadaisical and selfish. One time we were defending a fully upgraded, well sieged bay and once we wiped the other team I said, shouldn’t we look for mesmer’s?? and the response I got was No, there is a fight at SE tower, bla bla. My natural response was, do you not care about bay, why did we defend it then? I got the response “what difference does it make?” Coming from someone that logs on maybe once a week and never contributes to upgrading, etc..just running with the group.
The difference was, someone who cared about the server took the time to do it. We should respect that.
At that point I rarely cared to run with them anymore and they slowly slipped into mediocrity but blamed everything else but themselves for it.
There has to be a way to stop the bleeding in wvw.
I think this is a good step in that direction.

The OP has a very valid reason for what he is saying.
The game is NOT doing well right now no matter what numbers you or anyone throws out to say otherwise.
The game is terribly imbalanced and that should take precedence over a pvp league that seems to be the flavor of the month for anet focus.
If you don’t sour one of their flavors they will ultimately always come up with something that hinders them from fixing what “YOU” want fixed.
I think this is the perfect storm you mentioned.
Our server even had a meeting about what to do with new people and how to keep them “on board” once the newness wore off.
Reality: entire guilds consolidated or quit. Empty BL for most hours “i play” which use to have 15-40 during my play time (depending on day of the week).
The pve gating for 2 of the aforementioned reasons in your post i think were the nails to the coffin.
I am in the same boat as everyone else. I use to only play gw2 for wvw. I play now, occasionally going into ebg and get tired of blobs running around so I go to home bl, 3 people on the entire map from our server trying to take back the keep with a treb, sup cata and reg cata. 20 minutes later…take back keep and say…kitten , that long for that? Fall once, calculate the amount of time it will take me to catch back up with the 3 people….minimize, look up craigslist… see an old army truck for sale….close gw2.
And the weird thing about it…i don’t have any interest in, or have any intention of buying an old army truck..it was just more interesting than what i was already doing.

One extreme to the other does not usually help. Changing servers now after really messing up wvw map design would alienate even more that are barely hanging on because of friends.
SIMPLE map alterations (just to break up the monotony)
and ability to use elite specs in wvw without having to gate thru pve would’ve really helped slow down or reverse the wvw decline.

lol, i was in the same boat as stambo when I first started playing. I was use to playing a game where people actually fought to own something and once u owned it.. you defended it to the death. I logged into eotm and saw a karma train for the first time and said “are we not going to defend our keep, it has reds in it?” ofc, all i got was snark remarks about changing overflows if I wanted to play that way, lol. I called the people carebears and asked why they didn’t just play hello kitty online then.
Now you see the selfish gvg’s and baghunting as many people post. I don’t get that either. Your servermates worked hard to acquire something and you just let it slide away to show your guild (from your server) is better than their guild (from their server) yet they just beat you because you lost objectives from your server even if you won the gvg.
And bags? what is honestly good in a bag? anything?
I don’t even know what I get from those things since i just rapidly click through them, hit deposit all, and never look until my bank is full and stuff is not depositing, sell on tp, repeat.
wvw is dying and anet is having a hard time plugging the wound
people just generally quit caring because they expect so little from devs but a few good wvw guilds still play for their server. If you can find one of those, you will get it and it will be worth playing still.

delete south half of each map, totally unnecessary strategically and totally not enjoyable to navigate to.
OR
Flatten all terrain around a single large keep (home “keep” to replace home bl), make it defensible but upgrades have to be earned.
Remove all gimmicks, jumping puzzle-type crap, lasers, etc.
Make a keep worth KEEPING and it will draw all the fights there.
2-3 fronts will encourage massive fights from 2-3 servers at all times of the day. When secure, go to EB, when not, priority is to re-establish your keep.
lastly, put something in wvw that can only be attained there (crafting wise?), this will draw in pve’rs and they will realize their skill in the open world is weak compared to those that constantly fight other “people”. It will draw them in (if they seek a challenge) and will increase wvw pops. Plus, the wvw vets will have fun defending the crafting material if it is on the home/enemy bl.
