Every where you turn something is bugged/broken… Yes, everything is broken, everything, there isn´t a single event or skill challenge not broken. Seriously, did you actually read what you wrote before hitting the post button? Don´t take this as a personal attack, but it is really a boon that WoW is publishing a new update just now and hopefully reclaiming a lot of the disgruntled hordes who are judging GW2 with extreme bias. Have fun there.

What??

Exactly I agree with you, I’m almost 50 with 2 alts at ~25 and I haven’t come across a bug or broken thing yet.

to be fair, the high level areas are worse. But its like 4-5 items per map at most, hardly outrageous for a massive game after 2 weeks and certainly not something to get all worked up about.

There are two very important rules in professional communications: published opinion isn´t public opinion and negative emotions create more feedback than positive ones. Regardless of the game, you will never find a forum without a lot of complaints, even if you had the best game ever made. Happy people rarely visit forums to post how glad they are. Also, number crunchers (which are actually good for a game, not to be confused with the “my [insert class x here] got pwned, but I am awesome, so there must be a balance problem”-crowd) are far more interested in game forums than “normal” players, and you rarely see praise for good balance, but always criticism of bad one.

You do not have to be a “fanboy” to disagree with OP. The game is far from perfect, still you do not have to share OP´s own complaints about it.

the “griefing” part is fine, if you enter a pvp battleground, you accept being PKed for whatever reason the aggressor may have, even if its to ruin your explorer fun. BUT making WvW maps relevant for PVE players seems like a huge design flaw to me. They should be taken from completion requirements, forcing PVE players to mix with the PVP crowd only results in drama noone needs,

i used to make all my gold from buying yellows and salvaging them into ectoplasm so i’ll share my view.

back when i started doing this on average i would get 2+ per yellow i salvaged, reliably, i did this for a couple hundred yellow weapons btw.

then i noticed a nerf a while back where i would get around 1.4 ectos per yellow i salvaged again i did this hundreds of times.

now i find it hard to get ectos from them at all and not only that but ectos prices have to started to rise again up to 3 – 4s what they were worth a little while back indicating it’s now harder to get them.

or it means more people are getting their crafting skills to 400 and actually have demand for ectoplasm.

materials are used from your bank, crafted ingredients are not (which, as far as I noticed, was implemented after launch). As they go into your inventory after being crafted anyway, I do not see the big deal here. The rare items for runes etc. use a standard bank slot, they need to be on your inventory to show in the invention window.

Your character progression completely stagnates

Like ArenaNet told us years ago. Dear God, what is up with you people buying games you know nothing about?

Who said I didn’t already know this? Please point me in the direction of them stating that all of the level 80 content would be a complete joke of a difficulty and grind. I also wasn’t aware of them removing the whole concept of mobs in boss fights that you think they apparently stated years ago.

I’ve linked this 3 times already, but I’ll do it again, just for you.

Here’s a blog someone wrote touching on all of ArenaNet’s previously-available information regarding their philosophy on “endgame”, written several months before this game was released.

There is no endgame. There is only a game. We knew this before we bought the game. Why didn’t you?

Maybe you should read that yourself and realize that their entire design is faulty due to the way events, rewards, and stats scale.

I’m pretty sure it bears repeating:
Just because you have an opinion and a keyboard doesn’t make your opinion valid.
IF, in a purely factual and unbiased way, you can prove your statement, THEN it’s a valid fact. Until then, it’s an opinion. And one I really don’t agree with or understand.

So you find it balanced to be able to go back to lower level areas as part of “endgame” and kill elites in a few hits? Of course it’s my opinion and my opinion is that the game is incredibly easy and thus no progression. The real question is why you have to take such a stance when anyone gives their opinion on the system yet give no rebuttal or argument nor examples.

that is not only an opinion, but also includes a blatantly wrong fact.

So to, succeed in GW2, one must use a cookie cutter build/tank spec

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

it is simply not true, however often it is repeated on the forums. You do not need specific builds for the dungeons. I have been in PUGs most of the time, picking the first people that joined and it worked really well, without defining roles and people adjusting their builds. It is about playing your character well and using its setup to its most – it is as simple as that.

The end game reimagined. Thoughts?

Algreg.3629

I don’t care about story, lore or cutscenes. And there’s no end-game for me. No PVP/character-progression after 80, and not a million Jormag/Charrzooka events will change it. The game needs to be changed on a fundamental level. There needs to be added PVPlevels and rewards for killing off players, something that will take years(5+) to grind to max level.

certainly the game does not have to be changed fundamentally. A shocking thought: you play pvp for the enjoyment of it? Adding pvplevels and stuff like that tends to make pvp absolutely unbalanced and unenjoyable.

Also, if you do not care about the game world at all, are you really sure a RPG, even toned down as it is in MMORPG, is the right game for you?

Even in PUGS i have been with people who played using their mind and succeed. Why do you think the corpsezerging tactic is succesful? More than often WP are too far away to reach bosses before they have regenerated and battle starts again from the beginning. Dying over and over also gets very expensive compared to the average prosperity of players.

Algreg.3629

Is anyone else having a little bit of trouble with keeping up with the levels in these areas?

Gendarran Fields boasts to be a level 25 – 35 area, however after completing the Kessex Hills area at level 24, I’m now sitting at level 32, with full map completion, and a little bit lost without going to another starting area.

I didn’t seem to have this problem with my Sylvari, who was regularly several levels over the area requirements.

Is it just me? I’m taking part in pretty much all the dynamic events, but I can’t seem to keep my human characters up when it comes to their levels.

it really depends on how you play. When you finish all maps before moving on, you will quickly outlevel them – which does not matter at all as the scaling to map level works rather fine.

Is revive a good thing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

I think that the revive function as itself is ok. Though the lenght it takes to revive a dead player is imo too long. I didn’t time it, but it feels bout 4 times as long as for a downed player (who is using his self heal skill as they should when one is reviving them). Many times when reviving a dead player, the spawn that killed him will respawn on me before I get them up. So to make this better I would like to see that time shortened.

Second point is that indeed some people should understand that I (and most players who know a little bit how to play) never revive in the midst off battle. It is surprising to see the amount of dead people at the metrica fire elemental. The worse thing is they have spent the whole time asking in local and map chat to revive (no change I will stand still there for more then 2 seconds, let alone revive) and are surprised afterwards they didn’t get a chest….

The downed state however isn’t working for me. First off all cause I miss a give up button. Sometimes you know there is no way to get out of the mess your in without death (e.g. when you only have a very nasty boss to kill or when you actually want to waypoint but your in a long cave with enemy’s every step) So I would like a ’ give up’ function to skip the downed state to death. Second I don’t really like the reward for cheating death. The main problem is the amount of health. You get back up, but the health given to you is so very low the enemy kills you again in one blast. My sugestion here would be to have full health when your back up your feet, but pause the recharge of your skills. This would basicly mean you can continue the fight where you went down. In my opinion surviving downed should be rewarded with more then just 25% of your healt.

what exactly would be the difference between a “give up button” and porting to a WP while downed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

I appreciate that the OP took the time to explain why he didn’t like the game. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I like reading opinions from different viewpoints. Bashing him for it is just a waste of resources.

I think the Dynamic Events tell a bit of story, but I don’t know if this is the depth some people crave. There is lore in the game. It’s not my thing, but I think some people are into it.

I think maybe tactical play might be what’s lacking for some people. WvW has been a bit of zergfest, but I think strategy is starting to emerge. Maybe if the OP hasn’t left yet, he could try different objectives in that mode of play. I’m looking forward to the longer reset-times for WvW, as I find the daily resets a little anti-climactic.

the mocking is not due to him voicing his dissatisfaction, but his disregard for the GW2 marketing. He is basically like someone buying Call of Duty and going “what, there are guns in this game – no!” Call me old fashioned, but I usually check on a game before I lay the cash on the counter.

Actually, if you remove the trinity you get.. the trinity. Players are sill insisting on certain class composition in groups.

The issue is the player bases, not the game mechanics. Since it’s a thought process change we’re still going to face the same issues of class exclusions/demand we had in other games.

Just look at how in demand warriors/guardians are for dungeon teams as opposed to Engineers or mesmers.

I never had any problem getting into a group as an engineer – if a group does not understand the usefulness of that class´ battlefield control because they cannot shelf me into their wow-concepts I am happy to have missed that “opportunity”. From what I have seen from terrific mesmer players, I´d say the same of them.

Oh I agree. It’s their loss. The issue then becomes one of perception in the majority of players. Which then turns into a ‘would like’ and then become a necessity and we end up with ‘must take this or that’ .

as of now, I see more of this “give me wow”-stuff in the forum than in game where the vast majority rather seems to enjoy itself (as opposed to whine how different the game is from that other one they so rock at). And even here they seem to be a minority – if all fails, I allready know a few guildies without a narrow mindset

"Tanks" needed for dungeons?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

This topic is very interesting. From the outside looking in, a analyzing current player feedback it appears the optimal setup for dungeons is requiring a tank or dedicated healer. Now this could be because people are having a hard time accepting the non trinity “design” but I tend to think it might be more then just that simple.

Although Anet has touted the No Trinity trope since the inception of GW2 I’m not sure they were able to Optimize the non trinity gameplay.

If the dungeons are inherently “easier” with a tank and or “dedicated healer” then you can bet that Mmo players will choose the most efficient way to run the dungeon. Which inherently creates a slippery slope of the player base mentality returning to “trinity” style of play. It’s what we know and if it is more effecients it’s what we will do.

Now is that a problem? I would say so considering the game is marketed as eliminating the trinity, yet that might not be the case at all. I know it can be done without the trinity but like I said ATM that seems sub optimal, whereas I would argue it should be more effecient without a trinity, considering like I said, it’s what makes the game “different”!

That’s just my opinion, maybe Anet views it backwards to that. Whereas they think that giving the ability to run a non traditional setup is what they want but very much still like the idea of the Trinity. There blogs would indicate otherwise tbh.

no, because this is not the standard player feedback. There are hordes of players who have no problems with the new play style, dungeons and the whole game are beaten by pugs and guild teams alike with ease. They just do not come to the forum and insist having the game turn into another game they know. Luckily, at this stage the advocators of the GW2 system still feel like countering this vocal minority, hopefully it stays this way or anet has someone on the team who has a professional communications background and understands that dissatisfied people voice their opinion a lot more and louder than satisfied ones.
