Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
Im sorry to say, but if an experienced pvp player gets frustrated by stealth, then theyre not experienced enough at countering stealth. That, or they should not get frustrated, as its just a game
.
If you want to choose ebtween thiwf and mesmer, im definitely goig with mesmer.
Mesmers are like the “jack of all trades, master of whichever they feel like”
Really, you can do pretty much anything with a mesmer!
Mesmer has an incredible skill cap, ive played mesmer for nearly 1800 hours and there are still things to learn!
You can copy a build from the internet if you like and have an easy start, but its much more fun making your own build in my oppinion! There are enough fun and viable traits to choose from.
Did i mention mesmers posses a feared and loved ability called “purple butterflies”?
If yoy want to see what a mesmer can do in the hands of a skilled player, you can try going to the mesmer forum and looking for videos. Im currently on my mobile so i cant really link anything.
If you have any questions, feel free to whisper me in game ^__^.
Warrior
Guardian
Mesmer
Im not saying its really hard though, you just have to put some more effort in then “just stand there and press 1 to win”
That said, you should just choose the one which aestetbically appeals the most to you, even if its a difficult profession, it will be worth it ^__^!
That seems pretty accurate.
Exept they arent bound to the closest enemy, theyre bound to the closest attackable object.
Like a glass panel in skyhammer that can shatter, you can auto attack with a sword to get in combat, and you can create clones on it too, but they just wont attack it :P. They also wont dissapear automatically :o.
Same goes for the things that make electric lines in the rata sum fractal, or catching fire in the cliffside fractal.
One time i made a clone, equiped other gear, made another clone, equiped another set again, made a clone, and redyed my last set to make another clone :D.
I would recommend traiting for the minor and major traits, not for the attributes (power, precision, toughness etc) you get off them.
That said, thr best way to make a build is by trying traits out, it only costs 3 silver and 50 copper to reset :D.
I would recommend mixing knight (power, precision, toughness) and cavalier ascended assesoiries (power, toughness, critical damage). Youll get a nice balanced build, later you can always seitch some stuff for berserker or soldier if you need more or less survivability :).
edit: ehen you want to theorycraft a build, first make up what you want to do with the build. For example for mesmer: i want to make a build that lets me sit back and let my phantasms do all the work. First i pick traits that improve phantasm damage and health. Then i take weapons that have strong phantasms on them. I keep all weapons in my ingentory, as some have strong single target damage for boss fights, while the ofhers have aoe damage etc.
Some weapons are also condition damage (burning bleeding poisoned confusion torment) based, while others are direct damage based. Its a good idea to focus on either direct damage (power, critical damage etc) or condition damage. Then use either 2 direct damage weapons or 2 condition damage weapons.
That said, trying out new suff in gw2 is really easy so dont be afraid to make mistakes, mistakes are only good if you learn from them :D.
(edited by Alissah.9281)
Theres a difference between “hard to play”, “high skill cap” and “easy to start out with” ^__^.
Imo all professions are fairly easy to start with, but probably warrior is the easiest as all you have to do for a build is take damage traits and add some defense. (I dont know that much about warriors so i may be wrong here).
The hardest to start with profession is probably mesmer, mesmers have alot of viable builds, each combines certain traits to maximize effectiveness, but those traits will be completely useless in ofher builds. Making a balanced build is possible, but new people will be easily distracted by many not optimal (and fun!) traits.
Skill cap means how many different things there are to learn, how long you can keep going without having learnt everything the profession has to offer.
I consider myself a fairly above average mesmer, and ive played mesmers for nearly 1800 hours (i think), i can happily say that i still make a lot of mistakes, and i simply learn new things every day by making those mistakes.
The mesmer skill cap is especially incredible in pvp, where you can build glass cannon and rely completely on our amazing active defense!
Learning required to level:
Mesmer/Elementalist/Thief (most ditficult, die quickly and real power/defense/survivability comes from traits and gear later on. Require alot of active defense)
Engineer/ranger/necromancer (they all have easy to use survivability like kiting with bombs, use the pet to tank, deathshroud)
Warrior/Guardian (you can tank pretty much everythijg except champions without risk of dying)
Skill cap:
Mesmer
(Very small gap)
Engineer/Elementalist
(Very small gap)
Thief
Necromancer
(Very small gap)
Warrior/Guardian/Ranger
Im not saying that warriors, rangers and guardians are very easy to play, im just saying that the skill cap is relatively lower than other professions (especially in pvp).
For example, all you need as a warrior is: a viable build, other basic pvp skills (cooldown management and countering your opponent)
But for example with mesmers: you start out with the same as warriors, you find a viable build and learn basic pvp skills. A step in the next direction would be to not use skill rotations but instead improvise, all skills have atleast 2 different ways to use them :D!
TL;DR: see the lists ^__^
a mix of knight armor and cavalier trinkets are very balanced and will work with practically all direct damage builds.
Later when you feel like you have too mcuh defense or too little you can always swap some pieces for berserker or soldier ^__^
The focus and greatsword have an aoe phantasm, the sword is pretty good for aoe auto attacking, but it does put you at more risk of getting hurt.
If you feel like you die too easily with a sword, you can try the staff and greatsword combination for kiting ^__^.
You can put the first 5 points into chaos, the regeneration really regenerates a lot at lower levels, as soon as you reach elvel 40 you should get deceptive evasion on duelling 20.
If you use precision gear ( critical chance), you can use 5 duelling to get vigor (dodge recharges 2 times as fast) nearly permanently. If you dont ahve precision gear you can get inspiration 10 Vigorous revelation, which gives 5 seconds vigor each time you shatter (so you can start the fight with clones to shatter and then use phantasms for damage).
Hope this helps :D
Initially I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of another festival, but our team took that as a challenge to implement a festival that plays much differently than the others. I think we accomplished that.
:D
Ik excited about all these things :D except maybe the new wvw ability…
I looooooooooved the super adventure box finishers! I only bought 5 because they weere too expensive :(. If they werent so expensive i would e bought soooooo much :o. I hope when world 2 super adventure box comes, thy make the permanent finishers dor that too ^__^
Vigor – Elementalist (traited) / Mesmer (traited)
Might – Elementalist (w/combo) / Mesmer (w/ weapon skills)
Protection – Elementalist (easily traited) / Mesmer (difficult to trait & proc)
Swiftness – Elementalist (easily traited) / Mesmer (Requires Focus)
Regeneration – Elementalist (easily traited) / Mesmer (Difficult to proc for allies)
Aegis – Mesmer (Staff)
Retaliation – Mesmer (Staff & combo field)
Stability – Mesmer (Pfft. Barely)Reflects – Mesmer
Rezz skill – Mesmer
Combo Fields – Elementalist
Portal – Mesmer
Burst Heals – Ele .. slightly better? (Gotta check on this. )
Im just going to add that mesmer regeneration isnt that hard to proc on allies (not comparing it to other professions, just looking at the regeneration by itself).
With a bunch of melee people in teh party a warden can easily keep perma regen if you dont shatter it, you can also throw disenchanters and defenders in (the disenchanter still spawns in melee range).
Ranged allies are a bit harder though, but usually with several phantasms i can get 30s regen pretyt quickly, so signet of inspiration covers that ^^.
Keep in mind that mesmer burst heals (mantras) are very easily spammable, while its true that most of the times spamming it infintely is a very bad idea, there are situations where its usefull!
For example that cold snowy fractal at the end, when the boss teleports up and starts throwing ice, you cna simply run to allies that are hurt and heal them pretty quickly.
What this pretyt mcuh means is, every time the boss teleports up the party fully heals for when he goes down again ^^.
I know that eles ahve a lot of burst heals, but are there enough to be spammed while the boss from the example teleports up? And can it be used while youre on the move? (for example you need water fields and allies have to stand near it, but theyre always moving)
Its just a situational thing that rarely is actually usefull, but thought id mention anyway ^__^.
[quote=2519404;Chaos Archangel.5071:]
Im going to agree with the OP.
Although…. in my support builds i always do enough damage to qualify forloot, what im more worried about is: what if someone dies and doesnt receive loot from new mobs?
Theres a really simple solution: in dungeons everyone should automatically qualify for loot.
I hope there will be more exclusive skins for lesser achievements too. Like teh purple mist weapons from pve, they ahve particle effects but not as uch as the legendaries ^^.
Bunkers would somewhat dissapear, which is in my oppinion a very good thing.
But you also remove hte choice to go for high risk high reward gameplay with berserker, which is a very bad thing.
Condition damage would be pretty bad aswell… on crit traits and sigils would become useless, etc etc.
seems fine by me, but i would still change the knight’s amulet for a berserker’s and illusionary elestacity for something like illusionary invigoration. the extra bounce just doesnt do much :o.
Nope.
I just make whatever build i like and then pick fitting weapons ^^.
Although i always try to fit the sword and focus in in pve and wvw.
How exactly does a 0.25 second cooldown “improve balance”?
How much does it really bother you that it takes 0.25 seconds longer to finish off a target quicker?
The exploit was that people had multiple shatter effects on a single illusion. They added a 0.25 second cooldown to prevent that.
The issue seems fixed to me.
Ok, heres my attempt at making my top 5 past midnight, ill probably edit it tomorrow too >_>:
Ong ive literly been staring at the screen for 5 minutes but i cant choose D:
It used to be a very potent trait in the right build – now its practically useless.
All i can say is: “if i was your guildie, i would tell you to follow your heart, not to base your decisions on what others think”.
Ok, i can actually say a lot more than that
.
Guadians can definitely kill people, if you build for it. As of the build diversity patch all professions can do decent in pvp, ive even seen people accomplish akittenng things with warriors! (Warriors used to be a complete joke in pvp).
Mesmers are amazing in pvp, which is just my oppinion ofcourse.
My favourite builds for pvp are shatterbuilds, like Osicqt just linked. With all the unlresictable bursts, tons of mobility and stealth, theres room for a lot of improvisation and self improvement. Ive player my mesmer since the 3rd beta and i still have aloooot to learn ^^.
What everyone above has said about mesmer versatality is definitely true, you can spec for… All kinds of things, really!
Heres a video guide ive quickly put together on boon support, its not perfect but it shows the massive boonage we can achieve quite well ^__^.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aQm1A5c2dRY
Its so hard to type at 1am, i hope you can still read it :’(.
Whats so bad about a 0.25 second cooldown?
Neer have i ever attempted a shatter which dient activate because of that vooldown. What reason do you possibly have to use shatters so quickly in a row?
If you want to support there are 2 very viable options.
).You can also go 50/50, where you use damage gear but use boon support traits, but its not needed to have massive damage :P.
Ok, so i finally have some money to spend again :D
Heres a combat pose, and 2 idle ones, you can pick the best one, or if you have your own idea thats ok too ^^.
not the yellow underwear :O!
thats really amazing ^^
@Pyroatheist.9031 thanks :D!
There are some things you can do to remain somewhat stationary in pve.
). You can also dodge roll through a mob and phase retreat to teleport behind them aswell. As for the shatters, I think you feel as if illusions are your allies, and you dont want to get rid of them so easily? If that is or is not the case, there are different things to do instead.
.(edited by Alissah.9281)
I quote,
“When possible, we try very hard not to take away too much potency from popular builds because we know that a lot of people enjoy them – but occasionally we do need to bring some abilities down in power.”
source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upcoming-skill-and-trait-changes/
If by “bring down in power” they mean make utterly useless, mission accomplished.
You’d think after a month youd forget these broken promises, but I just went from infuriated to very much annoyed and dissapointed, which is, i guess a slight improvement…
:(
edit: I hope arenanet is listening by the way, In my oppinion it wasn’t even overpowered.
(edited by Alissah.9281)
I think bunker mesmers have to keep 3 illusions up for the illusionary defense, so im not sure if they can shatter. I didnt play a lot of bunker though :P.
For group support the shatteredconditions are amazing, theyre aoe too
.
I stay with my staff while closing in, if they do anything other than auto attack i, get the kitten out of there dodge or phase retreat. If they crit on the clones they waste the burning trait that has a 10s cooldown or something. Then my fight contineus as normal, use the environment and make unpredictable moves so he/she cant hit you etc.
Recently i found another necro that i simply call OP in duelling situations on open ground….
It uses soldiers amulet and extreme life leeching with all minions… also extreme conditon removal, he was practically immune :/. I would Ileap him and he doesnt even care O.o.
When i did manage to burst him with 25 vulenrability, 4 mind wracks, full blurred frenzy, he would only lose 30% of his health and recover it so quickly by only staring at me :’(.
/cries in a corner
allMust ask, is there any interest in a vid where I show my spvp build and gameplay?
I use a rather different gamestyle and setup for this, sure somone else play something lil simmilar but so far not seen any other mesmer in the games I play with this setup.
Or you rater want the vids to stay on wvwvw?
/ Osicat
Sounds like a great idea :D
Is it the 20/20/30 condition build :o? Ive seen taht one in action and its a lot of fun ^^
haha, that is awesome
.
Even alot of non shatter builds (not all though) use shatters. Sometimes you just want to get rid of some useless clones, you can trait for your shatters to give 5 seconds vigor and condition removal
. The only thing you have to sacrifice are some clones, really.
Start the fight with some clones, shatter them one by one for party-wide vigor, then use phantasms and keep them there for damage. If the phantasms are about to get eaten by something you can also shatter them for vigor ^^.
Vigor recharges dodge energy twice as fast by the way.
If you compare mass invis to our own stealth skills, it does have higher stealth in seconds, its aoe compared to decoy and prestige, I guess veil can be longer stealth if you keep jumping in it, but then you have to be stationary :p. Veil also stealths zergs for 2 or3 seconds, cant remember actually :/. The only downside is that it has a long cast time imo, but thats really only an issue in pvp :p.
Chaos armor just lost one of its use, but it did gain another which may be even more usefull…
before the patch you could actually use chaos armor for 4-8 seconds extra protection for signet of inspiration or for somewhat countering burst damage.
But now it actually counters sustained damage with the fixed blind procs + cripple, aswell as giving protection from the leap and blast finishers, so i guess overall youll get more protection if youre lucky ;D.
And about the support buffs, im really liking the shattered conditions from inspiration grandmaster. If you shatter alot you actually have a whole lot of aoe condition removal :o.
@AsteriskCGY.5931
The Chaos Maestro build uses battle on both and life on one, I do the same except I replace the life with fire. I use the same weapons from damage builds though, as I can’t bother getting the expensive stuff again :P
I thought the sigil of life was bugged and it had an internal cooldown andonly procs on crits? Don’t quote me on that though….
Thats amazing
Im currently in bed and its midnight, trying to fall asleep with my mobile because i have no social live my partner ie currently unable to spend the night with me, or something.
Ill be back tomorrow with reference pictures… If i still have money
im so glad you liked it ^__^.
Yea, i actually just noticed i only have 4 runes of altruism :O And 2 water. I actually have 2 gear sets, 1 for damage and 1 clerics for this supporty stuff, but i used to use 2/2/2 boon duration runes, i guess i forgot xD
also note, if the video is missing any essential information, i can still put annotations, which are red text balloons in it!
:D
Hey,
I finally finsished the boon storm video ^__^. After many tehcnical difficulties that put all my video making to acomplete stop, I finally found out what the problem was and fixed it
.
I planned to make a few minutes long video where i just ran over the boon storm in slow motion, but in the end this happened:
You can put the link in the boon storm section of this guide so people dont have to scroll down, or whatever you want to do with it, really!
I dont have a thumbmail yet, so if you have any ideas, you can send me a picture of your character or a skill or something, then please do so :P
-Alissah
Oh, and one more thing:
What about this:
As soon as you block, a clone is created and your own animation ends, the clone does a single high damage attack that has the damage, cast time and range of the previous mesmer block.
Not only is the user not vulnerable, but it also leaves room for a really cool animation to replace our “raise the sword or smash the air with a stick” animation. It will have the exact same duration and delay before the damage happens, so it seems balanced to me
!
I like it, not sure why everyone is raging about something that was done just for fun…
although i would like to see a video
Illusionary persona
-Use the additional shatter effect from illusionary persona to down an enemy X times.
-Use the additional shatter effect from illusionary persona to interupt an enemy X times.
-Use the additional shatter effect from illusionary persona to interupt a nearby enemy while reviving the ally.

-hit enemies with X Mind Wracks while you immobilized them.
-down an enemy while you immobilized them X times.
-land a full blurred frenzy on an enemy X times.
-evade X attacks using blurred frenzy.
-evade hits from several enemies at once during a blurred frenzy X times.
-slash, gash or stab people X times.
-down an enemy with blurred frenzy while you’re below 5% of your total hp X times.
focus
-place the illusionary warden on top of a downed person to block their projectile interupt X times.
-place the warden on top of a downed person and let it hit an aditional enemy X times.
-use into the void while reviving a team mate, pulling an enemy X times.
-pull multiple enemies with into the void X times.
-cripple X enemies with temporal curtain while applying swiftness to yourself.

-use your portal to go in a contested point, preventing it from going neutral X times.
-use X portals.
blink
-travel X units using blink
-use blink while surrounded by multiple enemies and dont take damage after teh blink for several seconds X times.
So many ideas for acheivements :O!
Taking “damage” from clones while not being able to hit the mesmer for 3 seconds is by no means overpowered.
There are counters to a mesmer using stealth, block for3 seconds or wahtever, when your block ends he comesout fo stealth and you can dodge his opener. Or you can just move far enough away so he cant open out of stealth… lots of counters imo.looks like u don’t even know the difference between clones and phantasms, as clones don’t deal a great dmg to u. phantasms do hit u hard, especially the berserker, but look at ranger pets that knock u down, thieves hit u from stealth all the time, necros knock u down, fear u off and destroy u real quick if u arent careful.
u dont seem to know what u even are taking about …3seconds or soo…u come across to us like this:
so, err some mesmer killed me and i died more than once to him, he was like perma invis and then he like stealthed for like 3 sec and was like invul and had like clones destroy me when they run towards me and they are like totally killing me.. i like want to like ermmm ..i want to kill everything with button 1.
u know what …roll a thief!
I cant tell if youre trolling me, or just didnt even read my post.
did you read the OP? in the OP he talked about taking damage from clones, i merely quoted that. ofcourse i know clones except staff dont do damage, ofcourse i know mesmers cant perma stealth, not even once did i mention i wasnt aware of that, you just pulled that out of nowhere and acted like i said that.
I dont mean to be rude, but you leave me no choice, and this will be my last reply.
I request this thread gets locked, as it brings no usefull discussion and only rage to the forums.
Sorry for the late reply D: Some things happened, and my internet broke for several days ><.
Anyway, here are the pics you wanted! I dont really like teh aestethics of the staff though, so id prefer having the sword or focus on the picture. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/thumb/7/7f/TheAnomaly.jpg/205px-The_Anomaly.jpg
I dont really like the combat idle animation though, but i think this one would look pretty cool https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/mesmer/ :3
Just replace the sword with the anomaly, probably put it in the left hand too. Although its a really serious pose and im not sure if it looks good with a smile isntead of serious face. If my character isnt smiling, then its just not right ^^.
I just got a new router so it shouldnt take long teh next time when/if i ahve to reply :D.
edit: the pictures where i point are also pretty cool :3
(edited by Alissah.9281)
oh wow.. do you still take free commissions?
its been like a month ago :O
I didnt intesnively read this post but i did read everything a bit… i do agree that they should focus more on secondary strategies and mechanics, because it makes every boss feel unique and different.
Lowering damage or healing is in my oppinion not the way to do it, in fact, i think all bosses should have much lower health, its rather strange that it takes like 1000 arrows to a simple human to kill it… instead that human mob could just be very good at defending itself, like using dodge rolls when taking alot of damage from multiple players, or soemthing like that. I really would have no idea how, but everything shoul get much lower health and lower damage, to be more in line with players (autp attacks are maybe 30% of your total damage, but its the burst skills taht really hurt).
I think boss mobs should work a bit as if its pvp, take a warrior for example.
They auto attack you for like 1000 damage per attack, but they can burst you with a shield bash and eviscerate for 10000 damage. A boss could do something like this, the player would have to carry stunbreakers or stability, or even dodge. breaking the stun jsut before the eviscerate gives some satisfication of “i just prevented losing 75% of my health with only 1 second reaction time :O”
secondary mechanics!
The last boss of the Volcano Fractal is also a good fight. You have to keep moving, kill his shield, and kill the jellies while dodging AoE. I still think it could use another secondary mechanic though I haven’t thought of one.
mhm, i know one.
First remove the annoying heal when you dont damage the shield in time before he eats a captive. healing is simply annoying.
A secondary mechanic could be: Every so often he uses a 4 second long channeled skill that raises the lava a bit, so the heigher parts of the ground will still be normal but there will be lava here in there. You can interupt the channel to prevent this from happening.
Maybe those captives you have to protect are water elementalists, and they will remove some lava every so often :O.
The grubs will attack teh captives, but they always prioritize players when a player is near, and the shaman can eat the captive ofcourse.
Maybe there has to be more burning (condition) and less direct damage! The captives would make a healing rain that automatically extuinguishes players for as long as theyre alive.
The captives can also be revived, but it takes a loooong time. Revive utilities will immediatally revive them, so those would be usefull in this fight aswell.
I think that bossfight is alreayd one of my favourites though ^^.
I hope it will be a permanent consumable… I just hate it when everything i gain dissapears into nothingness after a while .
I dont think adding new traits make your “numbers bigger”. In my oppinion it will make more traits viable, which makes more builds viable, which is fun to figure out the one that sutis you best. This is asusming they actually ge tthe traits right. The last patch that was supposed to do build diversity wasa huge let down for mesmers :/.
Thanks for this post. There have been many people who have requested something like this, and I don’t want you guys to think we are not listening. We have been, and currently are, exploring what would need to happen in order to make this a possibility (it is more complicated than you would think), and while I cannot guarantee that it will happen or when, we definitely understand the draw of playing activities with your friends are not dismissing this as something that will never happen.
Did you just say…
We are definitely adding the option to join your friends in future activities.
yay
On a serious note, i fully approve of making it playable with friends, it just makes games so much more fun ^^.
Maybe even make some guild only servers where you can do the activities with guildies :O. like a custom arena :o I would not even mind paying gems for that ;D.
I remember a thread suggesting just this like a half year ago, when i read they were actually implementing this i was.. shocked :O. shocked that they actually used a suggestion fromteh forum :O.
Well, i guess the only thing that wouldnt make sense is giving magic weapons to professions that dont use magic…
but then again, arent signets magic :O? i thought i heard someone say that…
