@All: If anyone has any info, tips or advice for dungeon/fractal runs (Especially specific dungeons & paths) that they could submit, that’d be awesome.

Im going to assume this handbook wont be somehingto read in one sitting, but more like something with several very detailed categories to prepare you for a specific situation, atleast the dungeon part is!

Ok, ill start:

fractals of the mists – harpy fractal

Having 10 or 20 inspiration aswell as a focus will be very usefull in this fractal, as most enemies you encounter use projectiles.
If you have a guardian, ele or thief in your group, make sure to ask them if theyre using reflections, chaining them (and not using a feedback and wall of reflection at the same time by accident) will make most parts here much easier!

fighting on the platforms
Usefull utilities and weapons: greatsword, focus, blink, feedback, feedback on res
When you enter this fractal, there will be harpies with ranged attacks on small platforms you have to jump to.

The harpies have 3 skills:
a normal auto attack, this shouldnt hurt too bad.
A “rapid fire” this does very high damage and cripples you, its not advised to jump to a platform as youll mos likely fall, it should be reflected.
A lightning ball that launches you on impact, this has a red aoe circle and should be reflected or evaded. If you get hit, you can use blink or Iswap to avoid falling off.

The Iberserker is a verg strong phantasm here, the the small platforms will allow the whole attack to land.

the rabbit, bandit, shaman and ettin
Usefull utlities and weapons: blink,
This is a rather big battlefield, if a teammate goes down you should be there as fast as possible to revive, so blink (traited with 10 chaos and duelling) will be a huge help here.
Watch out when attacking the fire shaman with a greatsword, the fire shield will burn you 3 times when you attack once!

the stairs
Usefull weapons and utlities: scepter, sword focus, mirror, mantra of resolve, blink.
You can dodge through or block the shocky bars without getting hit, it shouldnt be much of a challenge if ou just chain defensive skills.
Once you get up, you can activate all 3 panels by yourself by using blink or condition removal.

tom
Usefull weapons and utilities: a ranged weapon, blink, mirror, timewarp
Coordinate with your party about where thy want you, if your party doesnt talk, see if a battery or the fan is unoccupied and go there instead.
Keep your eyes glued on the battery, make sure to refill it eith a tear as soon as it runs out. This will be your top priority through the fight. If a teammate goes down you should revive them, but always make sure you refill the battery first.
Tom has a chain lightning attack, which will do massive damage if youre standin near allies or illusions. You can reflect this with mirror or sinply dodge.

raving asura
Usefull weapons and utlities: focus, blink, feedback, feedback on res.
Make sure to coordinate your reflects in this part!
The asura shoots lightning balls which inflict agony, these can be reflected
A golem (cant remember which one, but ithink its yellow) shoots rockets in all directions, these do very hgih damage and should be reflected.

When all 4 golems are activated at the same time, try to pull them together and immobilize them euth your focus and sword, this way your team will hit them all at once!
Summoning a warden will also protect you from most dangerous attacks, or use a reflection ofcourse.

I have no idea what you expected here, so ill hope this helps anyway :p.

1: yes, it is more than possible vs 2 average players. Never try to burst someone down when its too dangerous, always have an escape plan.
Example: when you want to do a full shatter combo, make sure you have weaponswap to staff, blink or decoy off cooldown( or a defensive off hand).
Fighting outnumbered is practically the same as fighting 1vs1, you jump in the fight, do burstdamage, and jump out while unharmed. In a 1vs2 you do exactly this, but uoull take much more damage when you make a mistake.
Ond thing rhat can help is terrain with obstacles, like the wolf in the spirit map. You can stand behind the stones etc while you wait for cooldowns to recharge, use illusionary leap from behind the stone (the clone will jump around it), do buretdamage, and escape again.
Always knowing what to do next is very inportant if you want to control the fight!

2: i wouldnt mind sticking to a certain rotation, atleast not a very long one like ou mentioned in the Op. Alot of things can happen in a few seconds. I recommend using very short rotations, and chain them through improvisation.
I commonly use a move/combo i call phase dodge (name is subject to change : D), where i dodge through my target and phase retreat away, making them turn the camera. If theyre turning he camera i van quickly weapon switch and illusionary leap and burst. But if im low on health or if my target is blocking, i can decide to stay in staff and kite instead.
Focussing on what is happening is more important than sticking to a certain rotation, but knowing short and easy to use ones is very usefull, especially after a while when you dont have to think anymore.
Its better not to burst 1 target down as soon as possible, but to try to hit them both at the same time, or the one wih the lowest defence, untill theyre low hp.
Example: a backstab thief and a greatsword berserker guardian, the guardian has high sustained damage if i get close but i can easily kite him, in the meanwhile i keep my ees glued on the thief to avoid potential backstabs. The thief had the least hp and does the most damage, so he will be my first target. Kiting the guardian at the same time shouldnt be a problem due to their low mobility.

3: i like starting in staff to summon the warlock, after that depends on the situation. If im fighting a staff necro i like usin phase retreat to dodge out of it etc, or when im on flat terrain without obstacles i wait for the enemies to make the first move ( they will probably get over confinded because they outnumber me, thus becoming predictable and lettin me dodge their burst). After i dodged it i just couter burst, but it depends on the situation.

4: mirror images is a must for a perfect shatter, start of eith 3 diversion, then use leap and mirror images mind wrack for a burst with 25 vulnerability. In Spvp i like having portal over mirror images, sometimes i use arcane thievery aswell, depends on how many conditions there are.

5: i never actually use a pistol unless im running phantasm or interupt. Im starting to get used tothe torch, but focus is still my favourite!
The torfh focus and sword all have a defensive skill, while the pistol is mainly offensive. The focus is great for pullin people together and bursting them at the same time, aswell as sometimes securing a finisher.

Lastly: always have a plan ready for when youre about to down someone! You van block projeftile interupts by simply placing a cline between you and the downed enemy, you can use distortion etc. If their teammate is too close and you suspect reviving, place a temporal curtain just before you finish, when the teammate starts regiving you can pull him away.
If theyre both low health you can use a leap and burst the person who is dtill up to try and down them at the same time!

If youre interested i have some videos in my signature below, its in WvW, but still outnumbered solo pvp.

TL;DR: always know what youre doing next, try to use terrain to your advantage.

Or safe them up for future temporarly stuff, im always nearly out of money when they release new things, and when i make more money they release things again D;.

On the profession forum sections are threads with lists of good builds, you can go there and pick one if you like.
Though in my oppinion makijg your own build is more fun.
Make sure you have some kind of stunbreaking skill and possibly something that removes conditions.
If youre dying too quickly, you can try making a build with alot of defense instead of offense. In the lobby theres a merchant that gives you amulets with attributes for free, try picking a defensive one (soldier, cleric etc).
Know what you can do with your profession, have some kind of plan or skill rotation ready.
Try to stay with your group, theres strength in numbers!

In the upper right corner is your “personal story”. It has an iconthat looks like a green star, if you mouseover it will highlight on the minimap! The personal story is a good guideline of where to go next.
You can open the map by pressing M. There are different icons which are important. The most important looks like a yellow heart, these are a bit like “quests” from other mmos. When you go near them there will be some text in the upper right corner of your screen saying the objectives.
Hearts are te best way to level up.

I do meet quite some girls, but atleast 50% of female characters are actually guys in rela life, so its not safe to assume that when you see a girl, he/she is a girl.

My guild is maybe 40% female, out of the people i know and are active atleast. We maybe have 50 very active in the chat, but the ither 400 just rarely or never talk.

Ive been playing gw2 since 2nd beta and almost have like 1700 hours; best game ever !! : D
Im not a hardcore gamer, neither did i play an mmo for more than 100 hours, but gw2 is just entertaining 100% of the time. Pretty graphics/landscapes/clothes and character design, no gear grind etc!
I could write a whole book about how awesome it is (i would repreqt the same thing over and over again though), but for now ill stay silent.
My tip when you first start playing: just run around and see what you find.
Id also recommend joining a fun casual guild, because its ven better when youre not alone.

The chaos based names are good, but in my oppinion theres more than just chaos to the mesmer. After reading your guide, people will find revelation in chaos and become more structured and skilled.

What do you mean by the “-combos-” topic? Is it just combo fields and finishers, or skill rotations and combos and stuff? If its the rotations id be more than happy to help, in fact i would help with anything, really.

If the combos are skill rotations and combos, i would put it after builds and traits, some combos are only usefull for shatter builds and others only for phantasms.
Maybe even put it at the very end in the tips and tricks section!
Heres an example of what id put in it:

firstly, here are some terms i use: *disoriented* (target has to relocate you and has a lower chance to see or evade you).
Panic (target is panicced, often responding predictable, they may spam skills, making them more vulnerable to attacks. This is caused by burst damage, pressure, or even knowing theyre fighting a mesmer.)

name: basic shatter combo
type: offensive
range: 600
Requirements: shatterbuild, a sword, terrain without height differences
optional: mirror images, stealth
target: average player (evade: very low).
how to use: use illusionary leap, when the clone hits your target, use illusionary swap, if your target didnt evade they are immobilized. If you dont have 3 clones, mirror images for a full 3 clone mind wrack, use mind wrack and blurred frenzy at the same time.
result: high burst damage and panic, while invulnerable at the same time. The average player will dodge as soon as your combo ends.
follow ups: any evasive combo to further avoid damage completely.

name: phase dodge
type: defensive
Range: 300
requirements: a staff
optional: deceptive evasion
target: good players and lower
how to use: dodge through your target and use phase retreat.
result: you dodge attacks, your target has to turn their camera, leaving them slightly disoriented, 2 clones.
follow ups: quickly use a basic shatter combo, has increased chance to hit if you do it quickly. kite, summon a phantasm and kite your target.

Here are just 2 simple and commonly used ones. There could be different categories within the combo section, filtered by how easy they are to use or in which situations (1v1, 1vX, group fights) etc.
Ive actually been thinking awhile about making a combo guide like this, but for some reason i nver could bother :/. Id love helping you out though.
if you make some sort of pdf file or whatever, you can replace all the skill and condition names with little pictures.

Is this in a pvp environment? Theres quite an easy solution to this.
Know what the terrain around you looks like, avoidbad terrain and movethe fightti good terrain if possible. If you see an enemy, you dont have to fight.
Mesmers (most of them) have amazing mobility and escapive abilities, when a fight isnt in your favor, move it to terrain you can make advantage of. Something like a flat ground and around a corner or behind a wall. You can use illusionary leap to leap around the corner and catch your enemy by surprise.

TL;DR: control the fight and avoid bad terrain.

Well, trident auto attacks with 3 clones can stack 25 bleeds with 100% uptime easily :/.
Maybe were the strongest in offense, even when youre not condition specced…. But ranged are immortal underwater. They could easilh win a 1vs2. With near zero chance of defeat.

secondly, each time i read a story about being unrightfully banned makes me sad really sad.
i could write a whole book about how dissapointed i am by arenanet banning people.. but i would basically be quoting the countless people whow ere banned on the forums, so ill try to stop being sad for now.
im not some hardcore gamer, i dont even know what the word “exploit” means, the only game that i played for more than 100 hours (i actually have more than 1500 now) and enjoyed all the time was gw2… that said, i can relate to people who got banned due to snowflakes, and i wouldve felt absolutely terrible.. maybe evne soemthing ill never forget, and im not exxagerating.
in my oppinion arenanet should send you a “were sorry” letter, they really should.
i spend a big part of my free time on gw2 and im sure there are many others who do… losing something taht brings so much joy would just be terrible.
its really stupid they dont even give you a second chance, or just remove all items that were created from the exploit… or even warn players of what “exploit” means. wheni read about teh bans for snowflakes i actually got scared i exploited by accident…
people tell me to not be afraid of the system when im doing nothing wrong, but if things like this are happening, i just dont know if im doing nothing wrong…

i hope i dont get banned for being really sad where other people can see it

I made my first human 4 days ago and i noticed the run was really bouncy aswell :o.
I played human in the beta, and i was surprised i neer noticed.

Im not sure what lore youre talking about, nor are males really “my thing”, but ill go with a 7/10 for the first one and 8/10 for the second one, simply because duchaine sounds nice

I called my human and 3rd mesmer Alissah Whisperer.
Im not really looking to write a full biography or something, so i went with a. Simple common last name, and used my own first name. Only using her for pvp and maybe levelling when im bored.

Im not chrrently at my computer so i cant cut the human out, but wanted to share anyway.

My sylvari mesmer glows red and i put the slider on max.
When the total makeover kits came out, they reverted the glow slider… So i put it on off instead of on. Had to buy another kit just to put it on on again. Then i noticed i made a mistake with the face and had to buy another. All that beautiful money…

Just wanted to point out this is not quite true. In gw2 you never have to rely on others tanking for you.
The reason why you felt very squishy is because ele and some others are not a “facetank” profession. Like with warrior and guardian you can tank anything in pve and win.
Professions that cant facetank, do usually have more mobility and ways to avoid damage!
Elementalists have good burst heals, but low health so you die fast at lower levels where ou cant heal much.
Mesmers have low health, but stealth and a whole lot of teleports and illusions to avoid damage.
And so forth.
I would defintely recommend going with guardian, seeing you had the most fun with that one.
Just know: professions that feel veh weak just means they have a slightly higher skill requirement, so after a bit of practice the “i feel squishy” will quickly turn in a “i feel awesome”.
I personally like more active playstyles like mesmer (stealthing and blinking), engineer (kit swapping and amazing versatality) and ele (attunement swapping and mobility).
Things like warrior, just stand there and auto attack while everyhing dies, just dont do it for me. Thats just my oppinion ofcourse.

Oh, mesmers are also viable at range! The greatsword attack hits 3 targets at range and does high damage, when youre specced for lhantasms you can let your melee phantasms do all the work, while youre still at range yourself.

Yup, staying with your team definitely helps survive.
If you find youre dying alot, try swithing to q defensive amulet (cleric, soldier, things like that).
If you want a good build, and avoid the fun of creating and tweaking your own build, there are lists on the peofession forums.
You should star by getting familiar with tour own skills and what you can do with them.
If a certain profession is giving you trouble, see if theres soneone in yur guild/friends list that plays the profession and can help you. Knowing what others can do is hard, but it may just be more inportant than knowing yourself.
Experience comes with practice. If you die, try to find out why you died, you can see a death breakdown where he most damaging skills are listed.

In the Spvp forum is a stickied thread with a list of experienced players whom you can whisper in game for help!
You can ofcourse always whisper me if you want, and ill th my best to help.

Sylvari mesmer
Unpredictable, elegant and agile.
Ive played mesmer ever since, it all just feels so natural to me! I like the lore about an “illusionist” profession, i also like fuschia and butterflies. I love having so many teleports and stealth, out manouvring my opponent while theyre swinging their sword in the air.
Everytime i try a new profession or another race than sylvari (but i fo have some asuras), i just crave for my mesmer after a while, and have to go back. When i try another race than sylvari i kind of instantly regret it and make it sylvari… So i figured: i should make my human a mesmer, that way icant regret and reroll to sylvari!
Sylvari are perfect for me, the looks, the voice, the cute/happy animations, shes just always smiling to brighten my day when im sad.
I really like the asura dodge/jump/run animations and the voice, but theyre missing female curves in my oppinion, still like them though
I guess the only reason id make a human is because of their curvyness, just my oppinion again.
Norns are too big and bulky for me.
Charrs… I cant find any reason to like these, the personality and look i dont like etc.

I do sometimes play other professions in pvp or maybe pve just for a change, i like the engi for improvisation and versatality, the ele for constant attunement swapping and talking alot, thief for mobility and stealth (although i dont like the lore and dont play t in pve).

Thats not entirely true.
The average player somehow got rhe oppinion that guardians are the best supporters, therefore “all guardians must be support or theyre simply bad”.
Other professions can support just as well, tey just dont do it because groups will judge them by saying theyre bad because “only guardians can support”.
Yea… I once added some support to my mesmer… When we wiped in a boss fight (with a pug) and i told them i was support, i got kicked instantly. I whispered them why they did that. u so noob, only guardians can support, noob. I also was the last player who went down while wearing full berserker…
Yea… Thats where my disgust to those “only guardians support, and they must support or theyre bad guardians” sayers comes from.

Bad memories i completely avoid pugs nowadays…

And now to answer your question: your build defines how much you need boons/conditions, but theyre almost always there, the build just decides how important they are.
An HGH engineer is built to have 25 might stacks at all time, which is very important for the extra damage.
A static discharge engineer doesnt need condions, apart from immobilize to make their target ulnerable to their burst.

A shatter mesmer isnt specced for boons, but theyre still there and quite inportant.
My favourite boon is vigor, which i have active all the time and recharges my dodge energy twice as fast!
My most used conditions are vulnerability, which i stack to 25 every 32 seconds (25% more damage), and immobilized which makes my target unable to dodge or the like. In pve i dont use conditions all that much, but i can keep a 100% uptime of vigor on allies in a range of 300!
Chaos storm applies conditions on foes and boons on allies, but the boon part of this really makes it shine. When an enemy chooses to fight in the chaos storm and attack you, well, theyre going to have a very hard time due to all hampering conditions and boons that protect you. Even with full offensive stats im very resilient while standing in the chaos storm.
When im using my booning spec i always choose to put my chaos storm on my party instead of on the enemy (in pve).

TL;DR: boons and conditions are always usefull, but you can make them more common and apply them more often if you build for it

[Lifestory]I personally have 3 mesmers… Sylvari was my first char ver since launchday, ive had the asura mesmer since like 2 months ithink, and i created the human 4 days ago, or 3.
Sylvari is still my favourite race, but i guess i really like how humans are so “curvy”. Although, each time i made a human alt i regretted t instantly and made her sylvari instead.
So 3/4days ago i figured: i should just make my human a mesmer! That way i cant regret it and reroll to sylvari mesmer, because i already have one.

These are what im currently wearing in pve and pvp…
some may think its not practical, but it really depends on what youre planning to do with it. my pvp armor allows optimal movement without a huge dress or tight pants getting in the way, yea, thats a good excuse.
Who needs protective clothing if you dont get hit anyway?

I completely agree… RNG is just terrible. If it wasnt for RNGiwould have had the christmass mini quaggan. Even now im still haunted by the fact i missed out…
If it wasnt for RNG i wouldve bought nearly anything they put in the gem store.
RNG items are the inly ones i NEVER buy, i just aboid them…

Im seeing more and more of these “asura are OP” threads lately…
In my oppinion asura arent hard to see/dodge at all. Thats just me ofcourse.

As far as i know toughness already decreases direct damage, be it normal or critical.

I just invest all of it!!
If i want to buy something i just do t before investing, so thats not really an issue… Unless i later decide to buy something… I would have to let someone else buy it and hen mail the money to them xD.
But i keep 5G in my bank to pay for waypoint usage on my poor alts.
Did you know it takes money directly from the bank if you have no money left on the char? Its pretty cool!

I once bought an item worth 5 gold… For 50 gold >_<. I got my item but all my gold dissapeared into nothingness.

Can you be a bit more specific?
Skins you buy from the gem store can be consumed upon use, you can convert them to a pvp skin or pve transmutation.

Dont flip crafting materials thats gathered from trees/plants/ores.
Seeing as you have so much gold, you should have no problem diversifying a lot, making the potential loss from when a single tem doesnt sell very small.

TL;DR: diversify

Little karkas permanenpty attached to ur face/back/peg would be funny :p, not something for me though.
I would buy equipable items that shine light on the environment, or some kind of upgrade to make existig gloeing items do that, like the fractal capacitor.
When i enter a dark cave or guild puzzle i always have to swap to my torch or mad king’s book!
I would also definitely buy swimsuits and special dyes for underwear. Id also buy sexy medium and heavy armors, right now we jus have too many trench coats and tin cans :/. Light armors are currently ok in my oppinion, but we could always use more.
Id buy an item that turns a souldbound item into permanent account bound! Especially for those expensive items like legendaries.
Hmmmm, and hair styles and body types that arent availabe through normal character creation :o.
And more cat minis….

The only time i wont buy something is when ts RNG … If jt wasnt for RNG i would have my christmass quaggan mini now :’(.

My priority here would probably be the new armor and underwear dyes!

Buying unfinished products (even bags which you open) and somehow turning thrm into something different, even thriugh RNG, is still a viae strategy.
When people complain about me ruining the economy, i say somsrhing along the lines:

I dont think they should stop making town clothing and make more armor. They should add more devs to the gem store and make both!. Also, let combat clothing fit in town cloth pieces, so we can wear the cute hats+ our normal clothes.

I think there isnt enough sexy medium (trench coats) and heavy to choose from… If they added sexy medium or heavy armor, or even light i would buy those for sure!

As far as i know he gem store is where most of their money comes from, so putting more devs in the gem store can only be good, right?

I bought 2 aswell. I already had 7 slots or something… But i had to make my 3rd mesmer ^__^.

traits
Domination grandmaster trait “comfounding suggestions”
We think RNG in skills is something only belongs to engineers and the gem store, this trait now has a 100% chance to proc, but now heals the target, thus confusing it.

Donination adept trait “halting strike”
Imrpoved damage done by 100%, also stealthing the target for 2 seconds (this was done so their auto attacks stop, thus confusing the target).

Duelling grandmaster trait “empowering mantras”
This tried now properly increases damage done by mantras by 40%, not by the mesmer’s other attacks. Mantra of pain did not get this change, we felt like this mantr was mandatory in moet builds, buffing it would make it even more overpowered.

Illusions grandmaster trait “imbued diversion”
Changing a single target skill to AoE is overpowered, so the cooldown of diversion is now increased by 500%, to compensate diversion also does 500% more damage.

Illusionary persona didnt make sense. You either had to die when being shattered, or we removed it completely. Having a suicide button in this game isnt right, so we replaced it by “master of diversion”.
Reduces cooldown on diversion by 400%.

Profession mechanics
Shattering now takes 2 seconds to cast. This was done so it looks cooler and players of lower skill and thieves have an easier time avoiding it. Shattering can be negated by blind and line of sight as other skills. When the shatter misses, illusions just continue their normal AI. To compensate the mesmer now shatters him/herself, killing the mesmer. We think this will compensate for the loss of damage by not making clones shatter.

Reduced damage of mind wrack by 50%, to compensate, mind wrack is now ground targeted, giving the mesmer more control and immersion.

utility skills

Decoy now properly creates a stealthed clone.

weapon skills
All block skills now can only be used in melee distance. To compensate, they will do 110% of their original damage at a range of 900 or higher. Damage is decreased to 50% at melee range.

Winds of chaos.
Removed RNG elements from this skill. It only procs burning on everyhing it hits now. All boons to allies are replaced by burning to remove RNG elements.
Bounce logic is always foe ally ally ally ally. If no allies are around it will bounce to the mesmer instead.

Removed a bug in the last patch where clones were bouncable targets. Bouncing attacks will now properly bounce to the mesmer, if the mesmer isnt in range t will still bounce to clones. Conditions on clones are transferred to the mesmer.

Mirror blade
This skill now properly damages allies, we find this is more realistic.

Phase retreat
This skill has had its cooldown increased by 500%. The cooldown was literlly so low, people could spam it without thinking and still win the fight. We found it didnt require skill. Phase retreat now requires mesmers to actually think when to use it.

Clones and phantasms are no longer bound to a target. When their target gets killed any existing illusion will automatically target the mesmer. This was done so you dont have to recast illusions so often. (Brought to you by the mesmer community)

For damage speccing you have 2 choices:
Phantasm 10/0/0/25/0 +35
Shatter 0/20/0/0/30 +20
Inspiration carries alot of support options, especially projectile reflection which is very usefull in dungeons. With a focus, feedback and 20 in inspiration you have 3 reflections in total!
Phantasm and shatter specs can both get this.
When i read the OP, i wanted to give a link to the chaos maestro build, but it looks like i dont have to anymore.
There is, however a stickied thread with a list of builds, including support builds.

You can wear full berserker’s to gain maximum damage without losing out on support quality.

As for choosing between phantasm or shatter, i choose shatter because its sinply more fun to me.
Shatter gameplay: jump in the fight, do as much burst damage as possible while evading all damage at the same time, and jump out again!
Phantasm gameplay: choose the right targets for your phantasms, somehow make sure they can finish their attacks before dissipating, smile at the very big numbers.

Id say 20 inspiration and carrying a focus is vital for support! Any build can quickly swap some utilities for glamours and you already have some support.

These people are all very helpfull and stuff, but theyre forgetting the first step when fighting a mesmer, or any profession in that matter.
identify the build/weapons.
When theyre using a greatsword, they will shoot lasers which do muh mkre damage at high range, immediatally close he gap and stay on top of them. When they swap to their other weaponset you can go ramged again. If this weaponset has a seord and pistol, they will summon a phantasm that unloads on you, which you should somehow dodge.
In general there are 2 common builds pvp mesmers use, phantasm and shatter.
Phantasm mesmers try to stay away from you, they never use offensive shatters. Most of their damage comes from phantasms, so the best counter is to learn what their phantasm summoning animations are. Blinding the mesmer, going out of range or line of sight will put their phantasm on full cooldown and it wont be summoned.

And now shatter builds… It may seem like they kill you instantly with little to no setup, but thats not true!
The obvious tell an average mesmer gives: they use illusionary leap. Most mesmers will seap after doing this, immobilizing you and doing burst damage. There are several wats to couter this.
The best: dodge the leaping clone, no matter which build the mesmer is using, dodging this is always a good idea!
But if you get hit: make sure you always have a shadow return ready to get out of bursting range.
If ranged illusions run at you, them theyre likely going to shatter once theyre close enough. Dodge forward or stealth and they will miss.

If you have trouble learning on random mesmers you meet in pvp, you can th going to a 1vs1 pvp custom arena to spectate, or eve spectate in a normal match to see what they do! Or ou can watch a video of a mesmer playing to see what all the skils look like.

The average mesmer uses illusionary leap to tell you a burt is coming, focus on evading this, and after a while youll get used to t and it will go reflex based.

I actually think karka retaliation is a “real” boon. This weekend ive been stripping retaliation on those big karkas with mind stab.

The main hand sword is amazing for both defensive and offensie purposes. Blurred frenzy does high damage and gives you 2 seconds of blur each 8/10 seconds, thats a 20% invulnerability uptime traited.
I personally rarely leave home without it, no matter which build im runnig.
As for the best off hand, they all havve its uses, it just depends on your mood/situation/style.
Pistol has a high danage/bleeding phantasm and a stun, its great for setting up bursts, dtunning people while your phantasm attacks and just to give you some breathing space, also useull for catching runners at long diatance.
Torch can be used both offensivly and defensivly. Stealth and reposition yourself behind/at range to avoid damage, set up a full burst from stealth+torch explosion and burning, or summon phantasms from stealth so your target doesnt see yu and cant invuln/evade.
Focus is my personal favourite. It gives alot of swiftness, which helps with evasion, it can be used to destroy projectiles (its useable more often in pvp than you may think), and an AoE pull ehih shines most in team- and outnumbered fights.
Drop a warden on a downed person to avoid his projectile attacks/interupt, while also making other enemies unable to hit you. Drop a curtain when reviving an ally, when someone comes to finish, pull him away.
In pve and pvp group fights, you can pull enemies in a bunch, immobilize them with sword and burst them all at the same time.
You can also pull escaping thieves out of shadow’s refugee…
The focus is even used in bunker and support builds, the curtain is a light field that gives retaliation and removes conditions, traited it even reflects projectiles.
The focus is a verh versatile weapon with many uses, and the anomaly is a cool skin aswell.
The off hand sword has a high damage phantasm that may be hard for people to dodge or kill, unlike the duelist which takes seeral seconds to use the whole attack, this swordsman is nearly instant. The block does alot of damage, it also… Blocks! Usefullness doesnt need explaining, i assume.

TL;DR: mainhand sword is amazing for offense and defense, all off hands have its uses!

I also like the quip! Especially after they added the purple aura. I would get that one, if only i used pistol more often. It doesnt really have the aoe i need in dungeons.

The pvp is definitely the thig that keeps me interested, and having people to play and chat with ofcourse.

I would defintely choose mesmer, in the hands of a skilled player they can do some crazy things. Like win against more than 1 enemy at a time, if youre interested then i have some videos doing just that in my signature.

A fun challenge would be: only use equipment which you find, youre not allowed to buy them anywhere or get form ogher players. When equipment gets damaged upon death, you must destroy it.
Or you can jus run around naked in the first place, itll be fun!
Guardians and warriors can kind of auto attack through the whole game :/, i recommend mesmer or thief or ele or something, but thats just personal style

As others have stated, some professions are better at healing than others.
But in high level fractals most things will 1 or 2 shot you, healing becomes somewhat inferior there.
Example: i reflect a projectile attack that would have done 10k damage(preventing the damage on my party members), while at the same time attacking.
or: i stop attacking and heal a little bit.
Not only is my projectile reflection stant cast, so i dont have to stop attacking, it also prevents more damage instantly than a hela couldve healed.

With a guardian or warrior you can go through all 80 les by just standin in front of everything and auto attacking…
I dont find t fun though. If thief was the first one that appealed to yu id recommend to dtick with it, after you gain more skill it will become verh rewarding (assuming thief appeals the most to you).
You can also try using ranged weapons instead of melee and just kite everything untill theyre dead, ranged is moet of the time much safer than melee

If the only reason why ou want lvl80 is to get a specific build, thrn just go to Spvp. Ou have acces to all attributes and traits there, so yu have havr un eith your minnions.

Theres really no other reason to rush to 80…
The best way to level up is to enkoy the game, but i guess thats not an option?

If you feel like your health drops to zero very quickly, try slotting defensive skills (endure pain, stealths and teleports etc). Also, try putting on an amulet with more defensive stats.
Never just jump on a point, look at how many enemies and allies there are. Just jumping in a fight without knowing whats going on is never a good idea.
If youre losing the fight, run away.
You can also look for builds on the forums, there are alot of viable builds for each profession, but i would still recommend makkng your own builds, because its more fun!
After you gain some experience fights wont be disorienting as they are now, it just takes some time and getting used to.
I also agree that you cant compare it to other mmos, as gw2 is action based, if you run a high offensive, los defensive amulet, then a single mistake can mean your death.
Putting on a defensive amulet should solve some issues.
