i’ve heard that PvP balance team are not balancing anything because PAX is going on and the patch after PAX is over is not big balance patch either only the one after is a big balance is patch true.

There is no “PvP balance team” – there is only the balance team.

Yes, they are not going to make sweeping changes to balance before PAX. That is not completely because of PAX. Also, bigger patches don’t always equal better.

That’s not to say that certain things should or shouldn’t be adjusted, btw.

Get into the game and play it, talk with ppl in the Mists (if you can find anyone there) there are dozens of threads in this subforum with detailed feedback, videos, screenshots, practical examples and some suggestions too.

I don’t understand why you keep asking for constructive feedback have you read it all already? if so, i’m sure you won’t need any more…

So, I shouldn’t promote constructive feedback because of why?

Do you want us to actually fix the problems you are having, or do you want us to just wing-it without knowing what the actual problem is?

It’s completely your choice to use hyperbole and not be constructive, but don’t expect us to read your mind or understand how to fix the issue if you don’t give us any detailed information regarding it.

Yes, there is constructive feedback. However, if we get 1 constructive post out of 10, how do we know that it’s a real issue if those 9 posts don’t actually give us any information?

To some people, it’s fun to knock people off the edge of skyhammer. To others, it’s fun to be matched up against equally skilled players. To even more, it’s fun to feel like you’re great at the class you play.

In allocating resources to Esports, I think he means the fairly large focus on the PAX tournament (although he might have slightly exaggerated it).

As for fun, I think he just means balance, and, if you saw his post from last week about spam, and the post that was on the same line of thought that I put up recently about skills being used more tactically and strategically than they currently are.

Sure, except the PAX event is being mostly managed by our events, marketing and community teams. No resources are being taken away from development for PAX.

As for fun, we understand that balance isn’t in it’s ideal place. This is why we have a balance team that focuses completely on balance. Time is needed to balance, it can’t be done at the snap of a finger.

While we definitely appreciate it when players are vocal and provide feedback, excessive hyperbole does not help us to understand the fundamental issue.

Some more points:
1. The current meta is not controlled by the PvP team. Yes, we monitor it closely as balance greatly affects PvP. However, no resources are being taken away from PvP development in order to do balance. So I’d like to just squash that misconception now.

2. Skill effect clutter – another thing not controlled by the PvP team. Another thing that we monitor and provide feedback to the teams that do control it.

3. Sending out in-game mail is not as easy as it sounds. Keep in mind that every message that is sent has to be edited and localized.

  • This is, however, something we recognize as an area to be improved. We are investigating ways to provide in-game messaging for events.

4. Lastly, I want to thank you for promoting the guildwars2pvptv channel. I always see a few people on the team with the stream always going on their 2nd/3rd monitors. Once PAX has past, we’ll be looking to better promote streamers from all areas of the game. So keep it up!!

ok so basically everything that is wrong with the game is not your fault. There is nothing at all under “control” you simply “monitor” thats cute!

I guess it is ours then! this meta is the worse EVER and i believe we all agree on that but it is ofc the players fault for playing the extremely OP professions that YOU made.

This is the excessive hyperbole that I mentioned in my post. You have every right to complain, but we can’t really understand your problem unless you actually provide some constructive feedback.

Alright, after more people posted that they were having this same issue, I checked in with the team and they let me know that there is a bug causing Temple to pop more than other maps.

Our programmers have already found a fix for it, we just need to get it tested and it should be out soon.

You guys need to play more for the matchmaking to even out. Solo Arena was launched with everyone having the same rating, it’s only natural that it feel unbalanced right now because people need to work their way into their places on the ladder.

Also, we’re monitoring leavers and will adjust dishonored if necessary.

GW2 is a team based game. Lets say we have a fight between 5xr40 and 4xr40+AFK/Leaver/r5 scrub, the chance to win this is close to 0. So this 1 guy obviously killed the rating of the other 4, despite they probably did there best. If this happen alot , people get caught between the scrubs, while lucky ones stay on top. This leads me to the rating system… I dont trust it…its invisible and that implies it cannot be that good, otherwise you would be proud and want to show it to the crowd. Best example Azshene stays on top with: 11-0 Thats a good streak but comparing it for example to Shad, Zyn or even Wiwra his streak is kind of meh, because these guys (and girls) have proven that they win continuously. It simply cannot be that they stuck behind a guy which reached the top with minimum of possible games.

There are obvious flaws – And the phrase “When we do it, we do it right” of arenanet obviously excludes pvp. Another example – Foefire loading screen is still bugged and what are you doing? Fixing some lame pve stuff (ah and therefore we cannot enter tourneys for 20-30 minutes.)

It’s invisible for a variety of reasons, none of which being that it’s “not good” as you put it.

As for Foefire, a hotfix for that is coming. Aside from that, PvP and PvE teams are separate. Just because things are being fixed in PvE, doesn’t mean they aren’t being fixed in PvP. We don’t all do the same job on the same thing all at once.

We can’t control people not showing up for matches. All we can do is make the incentive to join matches higher than the incentive to not to join or leave.

Thanks for the feedback, all! The points that Davinci has brought up are definitely ideas we have discussed internally. I know that after the Invitational, we’re hoping to get more things going.

We just finished Solo Arena, which was something that was highly demanded before. We’re now moving on to the next project. We can’t just randomly conjure this stuff from thin air, so keep in mind that we do have a schedule, but will make adjustments if necessary.

So, it will take a little time for Solo/Team Arena to normalize. Adding Solo Arena to the game is a huge step, and it no doubt has made a ripple in GW2 PvP history.

Fungalfoot.7213, PvE balance is a completely different beast, as there are insane amounts of things that undergo balance changes (Different classes of creatures, dungeons, Story instances, events, etc.).

To balance PvE, you’re essentially involving every team but the PvP team. So, when you guys talk about Profession balance, please keep in mind what areas of the game you are referring to when you post your feedback in those sub-sections of the forums.

Which brings something else to mind. The sPvP forums are specifically to discuss sPvP changes, or things that affect sPvP. If you would like to discuss PvE, please use the appropriate sub-forums.

I actually wasn’t talking about you, but about said thread. In 24 hours, that thread generated more dev comments and actual balance changes than the entire Necromancer subforum has in a year. THAT is what I am disgusted by.

Please understand that my job is to make sure the feedback of the sPvP players is properly communicated back to the company (note my title). The reason why I communicated in that thread was because that is my job. We have other community coordinators that are focused on other parts of the game.

The reason why I focused my communication in that thread is because it was loaded with constructive feedback, which should always be promoted. No, it was most definitely NOT the only thread about Necromancers. Also, it was NOT the only thread that I posted in regarding the Necro changes and feedback.

Now, with that in mind; This was a change that was SPLIT between PvP and PvE. The change ONLY happened for PvPers, and it was a quick turnaround due to the fact that the tournament was starting this weekend.

This does NOT mean that we ignore the Necromancer forums. This does NOT mean we don’t make changes that benefit PvE. This does NOT mean we don’t have hotfixes specifically to help PvE players.

Appreciate your feedback, but many of the things you are claiming are simply not true.

Thedenofsin.7340, that is great feedback! The community and shoutcasters are definitely growing, and this is the kind of constructive feedback that really helps.

We’re working on systems to help new players for in-game. Outside of the game, the community team works on weekly live streams. On top of that, there’s videos from the community. I agree that overviews are great and very helpful. We will consider that for future streams and tournaments.

Guild Wars is a very different game from Guild Wars 2. I understand the sentiment (I myself was a Guild Wars player, Spearmen 44/50!), but we did not build a new game to be just like an old one. While we can certainly gain inspiration from it, comparing the two skill systems is not very helpful because they are vastly different.

ilr.9675, I definitely understand your point of view, but understand that observing the CoC/ToS is very important on these forums. I would post on there more, but I think my PvP title makes people think I only ever care or think about PvP (which is definitely not true). I don’t think it’s possible to estimate how many skills we would have to split, but I can say that if we feel it is absolutely necessary for the health of the game, we will split a skill/trait.

2. Showcasing the game through a tournament is a great way to introduce new players to exciting “end-game” for PvP. (NO, this is not ALL end-game, just part of it)
3. While the developers are hard at work building systems for the game, the community team strives to do our part in helping bring in players. This is currently being done by hosting a tournament where players can win several thousand dollars. Yes, real money. Gasp!

That said, please think of the tournament as a separate, but equally helpful, entity of PvP growth. The tournament and shoutcasters need our support to help this game grow, while the dev team focuses on helping the game grow through implementation.

This is not a push for e-sports. While you are entitled to our opinion, the tournament is a perk for players who care enough to try. We are not pulling off resources for development to run this tournament. We are still working on important features of the game.

Tournaments and community growth go hand-in-hand with development.

We’re talking about skipping 4 days of Temple. Not skipping Temple until the end of time. This would not only benefit the teams participating, but it would benefit the teams that wish to eventually compete, as well as the shoutcasters to practice casting on these maps. Thus, the entire future of PvP benefits from this as the tournament, and the shoutcasters, are essentially showcasing our game and helping us grow our playerbase.

Given that, we will be adjusting the tournament rotation for the remainder of the month to be the following:

7/26: Forest of Niflhel
7/30: Legacy of the Foefire

Ok, here’s the deal. I’m hearing different things from everyone I talk to.

1. Necro DS is too much and should be brought down
2. Necro damage is too much and should be brought down
3. Necro survivability is bad

Which is it? At this point, I want to see streams and videos of matches. If you have examples of the following, please share (STREAM SHOULD BE AFTER THE PATCH):

1. Team w/ 1 necro vs team w/o necro
2. Team w/ 1-2 necros vs team w/ 1-2 spirit rangers
3. Team w/ 1 necro vs team w/o neco but w/ berserker stance warrior (with heavy CC build – maybe mace/shield + hammer)
4. Team w/ 1 necro vs team w/o necro but w/ 1-2 spirit rangers
5. Team w/ 2 necros vs team w/ 1 necro & 1-2 spirit rangers
6. Team w/ 2 necros vs team w/ 2 berserker stance warriors (with heavy CC build)
7. Team w/ 2 necros vs team w/1-2 spirit rangers & 1 berserk stance warrior (with heavy CC build)
8. Team w/ necro vs team w/ Engi (w/ 30 pts in Alchemy)
9. Team w/ necro vs team w/o necro, but with any combination of the following: spirit ranger, berserker stance warrior (with heavy CC build), Engi w/ 30 in Alchemy, guardian w/ contemplation of purity/stand your ground.

Any other examples are welcome, but I want to SEE that what you are saying is in fact true. The sooner the better.

Really appreciate the constructive feedback, particularly yours, Phantaram. You seem to be analyzing from a very objective and unbiased point of view, which is very helpful.

As for the subject at hand, I don’t have anything to remark about it because we’re still wanting to see more constructive, unbiased feedback. We’ll continue to observe matches today to determine if any immediate action is necessary.

What everyone has been playing now will become ‘Team Arena’ (group queue), and we will additionally add a ‘Solo Arena’ (solo queue). The ratings will be split, and each will have their own leaderboard. We’re also planning on shipping a couple other long-standing requests with Solo Arena that many have been waiting for. Ok Defektive.7283, then answer me this. Since it is common in tPvP, you’re suggesting that the opportunity cost of focusing on the necro, as opposed to someone else on the team, or focusing on capping a point/other secondary objective is not great enough?

If so, then let me ask you this: if there was a different class that felt more threatening, would you perform the same maneuver on them instead?

What I’m seeing is – you’re establishing a threat according to your team comp, and focusing on that threat. If a necro didn’t threaten your team because of the comp that you’re running, would you still do that?

How is it not counter, when there is a specific condition that is necessary for the success of that strategy? Maybe I’m not understanding what you’re saying, but it sounds a lot like counter play to me.

If it’s counter play, then how do you counter the counter play? You can’t unstealth a team. You cannot peel an invisible team, and if they have stability, you can’t peel them anyway. So the only viable options I am seeing are: a) send the necro somewhere else, thus introducing a numbers disadvantage, b) don’t bring a necro and bring a different profession. We’ve already established that Necromancers need a support group to keep them alive, so option “a” doesn’t seem really very viable.

Flesh Wurm would be a nice counter if it didn’t have the problems of being killable and having LOS issues.

I think counter play is a great idea, but there’s an implied understanding that the counter play is bi-directional. When a ‘counter’ itself cannot be countered, is that not imbalance?
