I don’t think it is unknowable. It is a pretty important part of the lore. Either we have some idea now, or the writers are sure to tell us.
Um… why is it important? They were asleep, and now they’re awake and trying to kill us. Why do we need to know how they stayed alive? Did you ever ask how Sauron existed years later? Or any of the other Sealed Evils in a Can? They just did, and it’s not important why because we’re going to kill them.
Also, magic. Magic is the answer to anything that doesn’t make complete sense.
Biochemistry answer: when you know how a system works, you can turn it into an attack. People who try to cure cancer, aids, and other diseases try to do so by studying how the disease works, and then engage one of the mechanics.
A nice example is breast cancer. Due to unlimited growth we know there are more HER2 receptors on the surface. So we can create a toxin or virus that specifically targets HER2 and it will kill off the cancer cells. Healthy cells will not have enough HER2 to take a legal dosis.
Another method was this really necrotic bacteria. They found out that it eats and processes a certain alcoholic group. So as medication they gave the patient a molecule that had an alcoholic and a D-amino-cyanidic group. The human body can’t process it, so we’re safe, but the bacteria eats, cleaves of the D-amino and the Cyanide group and dies.
If we can study how the dragons eat, we can mess with their food. A less ham-fisted attempt of what we did with Zhaitan.
I’m not against the idea; I just can’t imagine how it would be a good business decision by ANet to make it happen.
They implemented in WoW, and charge $25 dollars. The same arguments were made about breaking quest log, breaking story content, vs re-roll, etc.
Considering how many people use the makeover kit, it is in the same realm of business decision.
Hardcore players are not going to care, and are going to tell people to re-roll. Even if hardcore players use it they are going to pay with in-game gold. Casual players (Fashion Wars 2 players) are the ones going to be the major revenue generators of this. Mid-core players like myself are somewhere in between.
But in WoW you can’t just make a new character, and have him in maxed gear and level in 5 minutes (not without paying extra for that, too)
It’s almost inconceivable for 2 species to look 99.9% identical and have zero association, even if you have to go back to the first days of the Mists..
That’s… actually almost always the case in cheap fantasy. GW2 is better than most settings, true- it’s pretty much just humans, norn, and dwarves who look like different proportions of the same species, out of a pool of about thirty- but take your standard Tolkein races of humans, elves, dwarves, and hobbits/halflings, out of a pool of five. With the possible exception of humans and halflings, there weren’t any relation between those groups. It’s a vexing trope, but it’s well enough entrenched in the genre that speculating on a common biological origin is almost always a lost cause.
Yes, I know I’m calling Tolkien cheap. Yes, people have been physically violent against me for that before.
but Tolkien never denied that the dwarves, elves and man share a common ancestor at some point. GW2 tries to do that. in case of LOTR is, we simply don’t know as it’s never mentioned or discussed, so there’s a chance they are. but in gw2, it’s heavily hinted at because “humans come from a different dimension”.
did not have Mordremoth’s Theme
Neat idea. I’m in full support of legendary trinkets being added, but I’m not sold on them having an aura. I’d prefer that they don’t (but I obviously don’t speak for everyone. Perhaps a good compromise would be only the amulet having an aura).
Unfortunately I doubt that we will get a collection for it, since we can’t even get collections for the new weapons, but I do think that after leg armor is released Anet should start working on leg trinkets.
One thing I am worried about is the legendary insights (well not worried). I can understand them being required for leg armor since it was announced ahead of time it would be associated with raids. But I don’t know if I can agree with also gating leg trinkets behind 25 leg insights each (that’s 2 weeks minimum per trinket), since so many players don’t raid. Maybe if the requirement was lowered to 3 leg insights per Artifact of Glory and only needing 4 of them (so you’d need a total of 12 leg insights per trinket. Can be done in 1 week minimum) would be better? Or adding another recipe that is more expensive but doesn’t require any leg insights?
I can understand your worry about the LI, personally I thought 25 was perfect, as 2 weeks seems like a fair challenge to me, longer if you can’t kill all bosses in a week. But I figured since it’s post-HoT it’s kinda fair to say “some raids” are okay. Maybe we can cut it down to 10 total? I mean, legendary trinkets shouldn’t be too easy. I fear without the LI the trinkets true value won’t be reached as many people can just burn fractals. but maybe there can be like a really expensive alternative. Like a merchant who tells a component for 5LI or 1 of each ascended mat?
Ascended mats are costly, so people who are good at raiding will prefer that, and people who can’t do it, can get it through that method, does that sound fair? then it would cost:
*5 spiritwood Planks
*5 Deldrimor Ingots
*5 Elonian Leather
*5 Bolts of Damask
That’s an amount anyone can come up with, after some grinding, but it can be skipped if you choose raids.
Either way, I’m a strong believer that no matter how rich someone is, there should always be like at least 3 weeks of hard work behind it.
(edited by Amaimon.7823)
- 5 Artifacts of glory (5 M-Clovers, 5 Legendary Insights, 50 globs of ectoplasma, 1 Stabilised Cube of Dark Energy)
- Gift of Ascension (made by forging 4 items gotten by world events and fractals)
- Gift of Divinity (first time collection, later crafted with a lot of ascended mats)
- Gift of Glory (Gift of Greater Might and Gift of Greater Magic)
Creates an amulet whose stats can always be changed, handy for raiders and multi-char fractal runners.
Special effect > Profession Aura
- Elementalist = ring of active attunement floating above the head
- Necromancer = minions fume with dark magic and corruption, appear slightly larger
- Guardians = blue light animations become red (flashes, barriers, and summoned weapons)
- Warriors = banners become fancier, shouts unleash a visual effect
- Thieves = (?)
- Engineers = fancier turrets and kits (skilled engineers make cooler machines)
- Rangers = beast becomes slightly larger, leaves a trail of leaves
- Revenants = the stability of the mists crackles when standing still
- Mesmers = pink butterflies are seen flying around the mesmer
I think this could become the next big thing once anet is done with the armors
everyone seems to forget one basic thing:
Raids were never designed with pugs in mind, they were designed for organized groups and guild. So if you don’t join a guild or make a group yourself, then you’re cutting off your own foot and then complain you have trouble walking. I honestly don’t mean to sound rude here, but please, if you’re not yet in a raiding community, get in one. And if you have trouble to get in one, start with guilds like RTI who have zero requirements and are pure training/beginners with some pros mixed in.
My top bets:
- 1: Abaddon’s Mouth at the Ring of Fire islands.
- 2: Somewhere in Ascalon, involving Foefire ghosts and/or branded.
- 3: Underground location, with chak and destroyers.
- 4: Isles of Janthir (or the road there-to)
- 5: Steamspur Front (to find the dwarves, since they’re supposed to be keeping Primordus sealed/occupied)
- 6: Far Shiverpeaks
why can’t the track automatically self-repeat. I know I am repeating the same track over and over, so just move the spare points to the start of the same track.
If race change was ever added to the gem store, it would still be easier and more fruitful to just make a new character and give it 79 tomes, or Scroll-X tomes, and then just move over your ascended armor. Exotic armor isn’t that hard to get anyway
What exactly is a dodge-jump?
A silly thing where you dodge roll forward, and jump, causing you to make a rolling jump.
Apparantly, your jumping distance becomes a pixel or 2 further, but in exchange it only works 1 in 50 times, so it’s practically pointless and unreliable. some experienced speedrunners use it in SAB and jumping puzzles where you have to make pixel perfect jumps
Maybe norn and humans can mate since norn are just humans with gigantisism.. or humans are norn with dwarfism..
kinda like a donkey and horse breeding to have non-fertile children..
just a wild guess, thoughHumans aren’t from tyria, so they are explicitly NOT "mini norn ". In fact the topic of interbreeding between norn and humans was brought up in GW1. Its been mentioned that no child would result from that. In fact that’s true for any interbreeding between any two races. Its been explicitly mentioned.
I never liked the norn anyway, in design, that is. I mean, they just took humans and made them a bit bigger and called them a complete new, unique and unrelated race. It kinda reeks of lack of imagination. I mean, they could’ve at least given them some traits or unique looks that made us think “okay, they’re not big humans”.
I mean, even if they can’t breed at all, I refuse to believe humans and norn are completely unrelated. It’s almost inconceivable for 2 species to look 99.9% identical and have zero association, even if you have to go back to the first days of the Mists..
I hope this update has some WvW Love.. that game mode is barely holding on.
lol. It’s not holding on at all, it has fallen over a year ago along with the GvG guilds disbanding. Almost everyone I played with left.
why would a LS patch have a WvW update? those are regulated by different teams
why would a lw patch have a fractal or raid update?
because those teams work together, and like to launch things in bundles, pvp and wvw have their own team and schedules
they are all seperate teams
but they’re still a PvE unit, meaning they have close communication. And raids and fractals won’t bundle their releases to LS bundles, anyway
I agree, though, it’s still that “retreating” shouts are used mostly for advances or progress..
… kitten, now I’m going to have to write a Charr/Asura romance story.
I think their core values would differ too much for a romantic relationship
another easy way is to unlock the temples in Orr, here you can buy exotic armor (non-HoT)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_armor
Costs a bit of Karma, though, but hey
Maybe norn and humans can mate since norn are just humans with gigantisism.. or humans are norn with dwarfism..

just a wild guess, though
maybe they will make their next elite specs so the people who are “unwelcome” in raids become required now, only shifting the mirror composition

I don’t know how this became a ‘mount’ thread, but…
I think players might be disappointed if mounts were introduced. There is much talk about ‘collecting’ them. Well, it would likely be like Glider skins; almost exclusively Gem Store-only. So, yes, it might be a source of income, but not the way some might imagine.
Personally, I think I’d rather resources go toward something else; regardless, it is ArenaNet’s choice and I’m fine with that.
Every “what do we want” thread becomes a “1 person says they want mounts, and 10 people explaing why that is simply not feasible”
the rules are simple, any 1 button click should do 1 action, otherwise it’s illegal. It is legal for example to set “click” to the scroller, so you can quickly open many bags

During the cinematics I was like- whom is he going to attack? I hoped he will kill Canach or Anise, but that was shock for me he killed his own child.
I was actually really surprised he shot anyone at all. The way the dialogue was going I thought he was going to shoot himself. That didnt happen, he shot Demmi (possibly in delirium) and then walked into the fire. Then I thought is this how he’s gonna kill himself. But then it turnt into a parlor trick. Considering his delirium and wish to have Demmi back, I honestly thought he was gonna kill himself then and there.
I figured he had some master bloodstone related “ascend to godhood” type plan going on….
Initially, yes, but by the time we got to him I kinda figured he was in a position where he would consider his defeat.. I mean, his regicide failed because he send a third rate noblewoman to assassinate her, then he was tormented by the “fake” daughter, it really wouldn’t be that strange if he just went like “I lost, but you’ll never take me alive”
That is not a staff. That is the legendary hammer.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Juggernaut
despite the lack of the golden glow, it does look the same, doesn’t it
I’m going out on a limb and say it’s actually a hammer, I don’t have time right now to scroll through the hammer gallery, though, but it reminds me of Genesis
Anyone with half a brain and little bit of experience knows that most MMOs have both better quality and better speed than Anet has. If there’s any doubt, just pick up FF14 for a few months. So all of these “take forever so it can be more polished” arguments are kittenhit.
As for mounts, yes I do think they are very attractive to the majority of MMO players as they are an attractive collection item while also adding immersion to the setting. I’m not sure what’s so extravagant about them, considering nearly every other MMO has them. I would wager my life that they generate more interest and revenue than they cost to produce in virtually all cases. I would actually take the argument even further and state that the fact that GW2 launched without them did damage to the game that it may never recover from.
Anyone with half a brain would have half-thoughts like that. Luckily. Most people here have whole brains. I never said anet was the fastest or best producer. But wanting to be better doesn’t actually make them better. And mounts work in other games because they’re the transport mechanics of that game. We have a different transport mechanic so mounts are superfluous.
And the fact that you believe that this game failed solely because it has no mount shows how little worth there is in arguing you anymore. So my only advice so you is.. go play a game with mounts if that’s more important than contentYeah, most do, mate. Mounts are not only a transport mechanic, they are a very, very desirable collection item. Why do you think WoW has so many of them? Since GW2 more heavily revolves around collection than other MMOs do, it’s almost absurd that it doesn’t have them as a way of expanding the endgame.
“And the fact that you believe that this game failed solely because it has no mount”
Strawman and hyperbole exposes the lack of worth of your argument.
He quite literally said that he thought the game failed because it had no mounts. no hyperboling or stawmanning, quite literally quoting him.
here is the literal quote: I would wager my life that they generate more interest and revenue than they cost to produce in virtually all cases. I would actually take the argument even further and state that the fact that GW2 launched without them did damage to the game that it may never recover from.

Bears hibernate. Do they eat their own excrement?
so, when?
when they are done with it. No date announced as of yet :>
Quality > quantity. I think we can wait 2-3 weeks more. Gives me time to focus on the pvp season
- 13 LI every week
- join guild and be good. Pugs won’t take you, too many elitists that blindly follow meta but are actually bad and want to get carried.pugs will take you if you’re honest and polite. Really, I’m sorry you ran into a lot of bad apples, but the barrel isn’t spoiled just yet. If you take 1 apple and it turnt out be bad, don’t condemn the rest of the barrel. I have been with so many pugs I can say it’s about 50/50 when it comes to normal people and toxic elitists. You just needa be patient and give them a try. You can always leave if they turn out toxic
1 apple? 1!!??? apple? I have raided since last summer and majority of pugs are the same. Bring meta, bring 12380128301823 LI or get kicked. Meanwhile most of them are bad and can’t avoid simple things or follow simple mechanics.
“ahem, cough cough”
I have been with so many pugs I can say it’s about 50/50 when it comes to normal people and toxic elitists. You just needa be patient and give them a try. You can always leave if they turn out toxic
so, sorry that you have run in more than 50/50 toxic groups. yes, in the description they say Bring X, and why, because parties have compositions, asking for a specific class is nothing toxic. You don’t hire a herbalist to fix your computer. The earlier you join a group, the more freedom you have in bringing a class you prefer. And as was my whole line of comments: many pugs will ASK for X LI, but if you have less than X LI, just say say so. Tell them what experience you DO have.
But I do agree on your last point, I have joined many elitist groups only to find out that I can trust some newcomers of RTI better than them…

Maybe you shouldn’t spend four years trying to get some pixels? :p
but but but.. THEY’RE SHINY PIXELS!
but seriously though, gaming has always been about being a skritt chasing a shiny
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I don’t think Amaimon actually likes SAB at all. Hey, call me crazy, but I get a vague feeling that he’s just not that into it.
As for this glider: it’s pretty awful, I was looking forward to it but it’s pretty obnoxious. Things like this and the dreamer are the reason I play without sound most of the time. I’d like to see them add two sliders, the first one would be other player’s chatter frequency, the second other player’s chatter volume. The first would control how often that glider farts or horse bow whinnies, the second how loud it is.
Either that or extract the sound files somewhere so we can replace them with silence.
yea, I don’t like SAB, but thats not the issue here right now, the glider could really be of any kind, the sound is the problem here. I have someone in the guild who bought it on looks, and is now asking a refund because he can’t stand the sounds either. But it’s not the only obnoxious item, there are also the SAB minis, and some legendary weapons like The Dreamer whose sounds are nothing short of a cringe that’s been echoing from the Realm of Torment for far too long..
During the cinematics I was like- whom is he going to attack? I hoped he will kill Canach or Anise, but that was shock for me he killed his own child.

I always find it a bit of an immersion killer when I do the story and go from “new Lion’s Arch” to “old Lion’s Arch” while in story mode around DE and the whole “battle of Claw Island”. I almost wish they would update those cut scenes to the new Lion’s Arch.
It may look like an immersion killer if you didn’t get to play living story 1. But the transition from LA to the Disney Water Park was part of the story. At the time of the meeting Scarlet hadn’t gone skritthit on LA yet
The glider you guys using I don’t like it and I want it to be removed from the game
I want anything that makes sound in the game to be removed coz I don’t like itThe problem isn’t that it makes sound but it is the specific sound it makes, which is very close to underwater farting. If they fix the sound I would be fine with this glider, really. But right now this on the top of the list, next to the Dreamer to be cast in oblivion.

You got an error message, or just that the map was full. Every map instance can only hold 150 people. It has always been annoying to get with friends on active maps.
thank you for the headsup, I can’t wait for the episode where we finally slap some sense into Braham.. we.. are going to slap some sense into him.. right?
Should really apply it to “player instrument sounds”.
It looks kinda cool though….. I sorta want it now.
That is actually a really good idea, although you might not hear your own “normal” gliders then. So maybe a checkbox “mute other gliders” ?
an open world fight against an elder dragon is also fine, but the problem would be.. well.. however cool, do we want an elder dragon to turn into grindable content? can we still take the dragons seriously, then?
Do you seriously think that raids are not a grindable content?
no, and why? because only a small population can rush through them. A larger population can do them, but no one can do them more than once a week. (for rewards, that is). by grind-able I meant you can do it 4 times a day and get the full reward each time.
Here’s the new glider: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmsRU7e1dfc
I don’t hear any cat hairball sounds. If your cat is making any of the glider noises you should take him to a vet immediately.
It was just figure of speech :p
I don’t know anything in life that makes such a horribly disgusting sound, so I just said something randomly to convene my feelings of it..
@Crinn – In his comment here (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Can-we-have-expansion-2-soon/page/3#post6551186) he talked about mounts being usable in WvW, along with the 100% speed boost.
@Amainmon – In a competitive scene they could be. Allowing you to freely jump off cliffs to disengage from a fight going poorly, and the only way for the other player to chase you is to also have bought the expansion to have the ability to glide off the cliff as well. Plus, they don’d double your speed.
ye, but you can’t use them in competitive settings, so gliding can’t be used for that. The only way to get out of competitive combat, would be to use a 50% fall damage reduction and literally fight on the edge
So are you saying you AREN’T buying it? xD
but I am forced to listen to the people who do buy it..
Well, I finally got accepted into a good group as a standardised PS and condi-DPS, and got to craft my Crystalline Heart this sunday
big progress
The problem of insisting on a certain number of KPs would exclude many players. For example I’m one of three ppl raiding in our little guild and we’d like to have all gold statues. This is why I don’t collect them personally rather than spending them to the guild vendor.
- I deposit all decoration tokens for my guild.
- Whenever someone asks for KP in a pub I join, I just show them an equipped mini from that boss instead. It’s impossible to fake and has worked every time.
This, there are so many alternatives to LI’s, if you just take the time to present them, most parties will accept them. No one goes out of their way to fake link something so unconventional. I recently got to link my crystalline heart, since it can’t be obtained except by clearing the hardest bosses. And people tend to accept it very well. I joined 200+ groups, just spamlinked the heart, and it was fine for them. Other alternatives would be linking unique ascended items, since they’re rare drops (like Zane’s Memento) or pieces of Envoy
So you want to destroy the balance and opportunity cost structure between combat and exploration builds that make GW2 unique, just to more efficiently skip map travelling with an item dependant boon that will instantly become mandatory and create a considerable power gap between people with and without mounts?
Wow, just wow. Your arguments are pretty null and void:
1. You seem very emotional towards mounts just for the sake of not want to having them. I talk about convenience. It’s convenient to have 100% speed increase. Exploration build? What’s that? You really change your build to ‘explore’ the map for the 10th time and then go back to your dungeon build? I highly doubt people want that…
2. If everybody gets a free mount at a certain point in the leveling process (similar to the standard glider) I see no problem about a ‘mandatory’ item.
3. Your arguments seem null and void. It’s emotional, and in the end you just fear a wowisation of your favourite game. That said, it’s pretty standard and every major RPG franchise has mounts: Zelda, Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy etc.
Mounts would be a huge selling point for the next expansion, and as such would almost be guaranteed to be expansion only. So no, they would not be given out to everyone, and it would directly introduce P2W mechanics if it was allowed in WvW. Its bad enough that elite specs outclass core specs by so much, you don’t need to give the people who buy an expansion any further advantages over F2P players.
Are gliders also pay to win?
Please tell me this is a belated april 1st joke?
not only will people stain the sky with SAB gliders.. but now also with sounds that are inaudibly different from a cat regurgitating a hairball..
please.. please tell me this is a bad joke..
this has got to be the worst glider in the history of anet..
I have loved, bought, and praised so many gliders, but I just have to voice me disdain here..
I would not be able to stand the sound of this glider AT ALL.. it sounds like a sick animal I have to put out of it’s misery.. sorry, I wished I could word it nicer, but I simply can’t, it’s that bad..
you can’t afaik. I’m done with them since I got the ascended metal-spider-backpack..
Just been dropping them ever since everytime I mine the clockwork mining node..

Your arguments kinda backfire, mate.
1. You don’t want mounts for better than emotional reasons as well.
2. Or we can just give nobody mounts, and it would be just as good.
3. This argument of yours is equally null and void because Fallout 4, some other zelda games, and guild wars 1 did not have mounts. What’s the argument here? all games must be the same?
