Power/Vitality/Toughness on a Necromancer

Just to mention, having trinkets with precision removes the big downside of playing
Power/Toughness/Vitality, with at least 25% crit chance and especially if you went for soul reaping masteries for obvious benefits and synergy with high Vitality, weakness isnt such a damage destroying condition anymore. Also DS scales better with Vitality (remember DS degenerates and conditions ignore toughness), but it also leaves you weaker to most special boss attacks and agony because of the % components.

Currently my Exotic setup is a combination of Khilbrons and Grenth armor with mixed trinkets, Scepter/Dagger & Staff (if there is a condition eater swapping to Dagger/Warhorn and Staff).

Heavy defensive Guardians, Clone Control Mesmers and Warriors with shield will always manage to outtank a hybrid, but the benefits of doing mixed damage and both doing a ok amount of damage (would say each 45% of their respective damage focused build) while still being a beastly tank, especially in tank form makes it worth it. For Runes Mad King/Lyssa combo, Melandru, Dolyak, Adventure or Undead depending on what you want seem the best choices (dolyak and melandru being i dont have more than 1 stun break and i want weak regeneration thats still better than what vampiric can offer).

Think i said this multiple times, how about instead of having a limited amount of smart/under control minions, just do a LF limit and let the minion summon skills be channeled and upon end swap to the active, each 1 second of channel time summons 1 more minion and cuts a part of the life force pool/makes it locked, if more than 50% is cut the necro cannot use DS at all, but for that has a real army of minions (first of each ofc being free of charge).

Check again, since despite 90% bonus cond duration (pizza, lyssa, mad king, spite) it still says 1 3/4 and fears for a bit over second and half and a doom on a enemy with melandu rune set will still run for a full second~ (well used to dont know now past change on how it works with defiant and such stuff).

Edit: Slight improvement on the previous whine post that someone made on this topic. Its nice that people are offering alternatives and suggestions, still the subject of the post is not as gamebreaking as posters on this forum would have you believe

Didnt really mean to whine and… well right now with Wells being a weaker alternative to heal banners, minions… minions (pretty much utility conditioned mesmer illusions that take about as many hits), corruption skills being overall really good, but with little use on most dungeons (AC and the whatever the name dredge one is that i always forget having actual constant use of epidemic and corrupt boon)/being swap for specific boss mechanic, spectrals… well with spectral grasp you can pull a boss to yourself instead of that almost dead teammate who got unlucky with RNG… (just as a thief, guardian and mesmer) and there being a already a few nice posts about weapon comparsions, Necros without their interrupt seem… well way less useful than they were before in any party setup. Still good subs if the party leans to one side too much (as in all glass cannon or direct damage glass cannons) for a role or two, but not much else.

By replacing one of the “still useless why would anyone take it” (e.g. combining signet power and signet mastery giving a new master option in spite as a example) traits with:
(insert fancy way of saying afraid or fear): Enemies cannot protect from your Fear, but Fears get affected by condition durations (both positive and negative depending on if enemy has melandru runes in pvp). Enemies in self-cast transformations arent affected. (so that lich, brute, tornado and plague aint derped up even more).

Fixed: Stupidity that just got in with Fear not being able to go trough defiant.
The duration of fears.
Possible problems: Necromancers could become a actually interesting and usable class in dungeons.
Fear being whined in pvp (from pretty much everyone who relied on infinite stability.

Why does it not work trough definant anymore (not the fear condition itself, but part that interrupts enemy casts by forcing them move, does remove one stack of defiant trough…), noticed on Toxx, yay fore more uselessness.

For minions there was/is this genious idea, if fully speced for (30 point DM trait option) being, the necromancer has mastered the dark arts of ressurection offering his connection to life force for them – you can only summon 1 minion of each type as base utility, but when speced, the longer you hold/channel the summon, you summon more minions of the type, with each post the first one limiting the amount of life force you can use (like what deep wound would do to normal hp in GW only for as long as the minion type is alive and upon death consuming that much of the life force). Let the minions melt, just summon more~

Amount of bugs + bad scailing on a lot of weapons and traits = sub part =/= broken
with full soliders armor and knights jewlery you do a nice chunk of power damage with ds, but a to 50% LF Life blast spam does less than 1 cast of symbol of wrath/whirling wrath/zealots defense in same amount of time (hell even sword wave/basic sword chain of the guardian does more with the last hit than 1 life blast while taking the same amount of time).

Let’s see, when was the last time a red respond in these two forums? Right, one said that “JH lives for roughly 11 seconds” when its actual active time is about 6 to 8 seconds. The other in ranger forum gave TONS of information on how they made ranger good… And? As it turns out there was nothing in the new patch that made ranger stand out as a profession, just more unwanted tweaks.

JH times and what they mean:
30+ seconds = Go to the local church, take a cross and then rob banks because its clearly the apocalypse/end of the world
29-21 seconds = You seem to be in a party with 4 guardians or 4 banner warriors
20-11 seconds = Regen Build with Lich form and Well of Blood.
10-5 seconds = Grats you managed to apply Mark of Blood and hold aggro so that the JH could hit the enemy 2 to 5 times!
1-4 seconds = Typical life time of a JH in combat
0 seconds = Grats you just got 20% better at the necomancer for not traiting into the Death Magic line! Here have a undead pony.

a) Also hydomancy sigil, Grenth runes, dagger offhand/well of darkness/fury with corrupt boon if you have chilling darkness trait.
b) It doesnt affect basic chain attacks, only skills with a actual recharge (and for some reason Life blast)
c) It does effect Unstoppable, it only removes Cripple, try on the Abomination on orr, he actually doesnt run like on steroids when chilled.

1) They fixed the rally thing on the first Halloween patch
2) They counted as NPC pets not minions thus no they didnt work with protection of the horde, dont know if they do now (same for lich rune)
3) If they bleed themself to death, DNova doesnt proc, just as the rally didnt, nor any on death effect except life force gain.
4) Parasitic bond makes little fancy green bubbles (half the size of LF ones/just like the transfusion heal ones) fly to you upon enemy death, thus obviously better than Reanimator.

Pretty nicely balanced.

As a MM, I want the traits Flesh of Master (more health for minion) and Training of Master (more damage for minion) to completely disappear from GW2.

Instead minion’s health scale’s with master’s vitality; minion’s damage scale’s with master’s power.

Actually Anet for a while tried that, but found minions to be too strong by themselves.

I don’t like how you setup the blood tree. It basically turned it into a 20 point wonder for any build.
also,

This makes no sense in the blood trait line. . .at all.

a) how did it turn into a 20 point wonder?
b) Actually except for the Grenth part for non human races, it makes sense since Grenths teachings used blood to fuel fros and decay and the human elite Reaper of Grenth already looks like a kitteny version of DS, but it doesnt make sense for non human characters.

That’s what I use. Mix and match with the traits but I’ll tell ya what if it isn’t already abundantly clear, I trait for DS — since the soul reaping core trait (30% more life force) was fixed it has been far more worth it than it was previously.

I use Dagger/Focus/Staff; I rune for Divinity; sigils of Fire/Rage/Bloodlust, yes I keep multiple sets in my bags. I take 50% death shroud CD, lose condition on DS, gain fury on DS, gain retaliation, cast enfeebling blood. As you can see, a lot happens every time I DS and I DS every 5s. Get that down and you’ll see the boons of this build.

Oh if only Gluttony worked!!! And if healing power scaling saw some love. Think about the ‘heal in area when exiting DS’ with the 5s cd… yeah, possibilities.

the build you’re intending is probably a good indication of why LF accrues so slowly at the moment. A 5sec DS with all those bells and whistles creates a lot of potential balance problems. If this is true then it would be just another prime example of the Necro design fighting itself.

Only that the optional traits have a internal 10 second cooldown, right balance problem…

Honestly its hard to use DS in pvp as more than a pop in for fear and that qickness spam attack eater since i go a 20/0/0/20/30 in pve and the life blast pierce, might on life blast, transfusion, stabiliy and LF on marks is just… well it feels like that should together be the real DS while not traited (just as you feel like a beast each time you use a guardian virtue to swap a fight into your favour).

Orr is great (even trough they should remove the direct damage delt by grubs because it totally makes sense that 2 little worms do more with spit than a freaking giant hitting you with hit foot), Lost Shores… well except that the generic karka have as much hp as the veterans but hit for 1k more (as in 4k total what is between 1/3 to 1/6 of a players hp) in chains instead 1 attack pre few seconds is bloody op for someone who wants to get from point a to point b within a sane amount of time, but managable because of blind… oh wait they have condition consumption.
Still not even close to hard if you actually see them as enemies of your level, but thats not what they are supposed to be (the veterans are, but they are bloody easier to kill than the trash mob, something that is a common feature here in GW2, kill the giant, get eaten by grubs, kill the ghost king who has power to vipe a entire city from the landscape, get killed by 4 little spiders, kill a kittening ascended charr who has powers close to the aspects of the 6 gods, but get slaugtered by jelly).

To complie a few smart posts from before both about class mechanic and minion:
1) Ds having 5 or 10 skills so that it isnt a on demand downed state

2) Minion utilites being re castable by shift+numbercasting to summon more minions at the cost of cutting away a part of life force and removing the +hp to minions trait (Flesh golem -60% form max LF, Blood Fiend/re casting heal -55% from max LF,Flesh Wurm -40% from max LF, Bone and Shadow Fiend -35% from max LF, 1 Bone Minion -15% from Max LF)

3) Necro Fear (not Thief, Warrior and Ranger fears) gaining on duration and effects depending on the amount of conditions and stacks of a condition you own on the enemy

4) Transformations having effect stability and not locking out heal.

Also no first thing that comes to mind with necromancers is Scythe, Phylactery, Detect type skills, Curse type skills, Energy drain, Life drain and ofc the skill someone cast on most of the forums and devs Touch of Idiocy

Grandmaster – Axe Training – Axe damage is increased and axe skills recharge 20% faster. Axe attack range is increased to 900.

increased range, increased damage, reduced cooldown alltogether is too much imo.
pick 2 of those and move it down to master-major trait.

Adept – Full of Life – Gain 5 seconds of regeneration when you enter Death Shroud.

regeneration does absolutely nothing while youre in death shroud…

Adept – Parasitic Bond – Gain life whenever something dies near you. (240 radius same as plague elite)

its still kitten. i would rather want something that helps me DURING the fight, not when it is over (when im not playing with minions)

Master – Death into Life – 5% of Power is given as a bonus to Vitality

Grandmaster – Close to Death – Increases damage by 1% for every 5% missing enemy health.

Adept – Greater Marks – Increases area of marks and marks become unblockable. Staff skills recharge 20% faster.

Adept – Ritual of Protection – Wells apply protection for 3 seconds when cast and recharge 20% faster.

Gotta love people that dont know how to cheat the system:
A) using the knowledge from pretty much every N64 platformer to control the character via the camera not the actual character
B) using stability and/or stun breaks on this one to just jump back onto the rock if you dont manage a jump in time

But one thing is true, charr and norn covering where you actually have to jump is annoying.

NO its not a buff, nor will they nerf it, the damage shown by tooltips actually updates now with weapon damage (yes it now does something), gear and base stats, level 2 damage is still the same except on ghastly claws (dealing like 18 more damage with full channel.
Utilites and Transformations have their own weapon equips and power calculations.

Fiesbert.9816 – Still… as you even said i can just use Hide in the shadows and casually rp walk away from you since you just proced 3 skills that are on a 30+ recharge (WOD or CPC to avoid the damage, Fear to kick me away and Daze to stop further attacks… but it doesnt stop blinding powder that lets me just rp walk away… and then just kill you in 5 seconds 15 seconds after that… Im not takling about people that think that thief isnt a hit and run class…
So the trade (if both the necro and theif got the 20% recharge down on wells/deception) ends with
Necro: 2 40 second reacharge, optional 30 second recharge
Thief: 1 45 second recharge that recharges while he has a 3 second fear instead, 1 of optional 50 or 30 second cooldowns

Necro = Low base skill requirement, but highest learning curve, above generic fun making stuff explode with the powahz of darkness, killing entire villages by passive aggrssiveness and will maybe get a dragon in a pur… i mean handbag or Fwoosh. Also condition control focused class with most possible chills and bugs. Pretty nice in combat diversity (from being a direct damage to a interrupt/cc machine for PvE or nice zone control in PvP), but with heavy build limitations because of buggy nature and trait setup.
Engie: Medium base skill requirement, low learning curve (keybinds being pretty important for toolbelt skill usage), generic, but pretty ful with… ahhh just watch meet the pyro and youll know how you feel as a engie. Highly limited combat diversity (once you go down one route in combat you are stuck with it unless you go for explosions), but really nice cross-build synergy (Flamethrower/Elix, Granade/Turrets, Gadget/Bomb and Turret/Wrench).

Knote.2904 – a reliable Lifesteal, blind, poison would be better than a base damage buff, but about as good as a 2 or 3 times the projectile speed one with increases scailing (right now each skill scales on a % of power, the amount it scales off is dependant on skill or every skill that delt direct damage would deal close to the same amount).

Epic, even trough i still think that Staff or Scepter/Focus >Axe Focus but to each his own i guess. But one thing, Dolyak runes regenrate for 30 hp flat, Lyssa, Mad King or Melandru runes often outdo them in how useful they are in fights.

You can stomp and revive while in DS if you hit your stomp and DS simultaneously. I’ve personally never got “stuck” doing this, and I’ve done it oh… maybe a few hundred times by now.

Ok so either you are:
A) you are lucky
B) exploiting the fact that the first 1/4 second in a channel, actions dont interrupt (reason why thiefs can exploint the cloak and dagger stealth from afar while stealing).

Hangis.6573 – except for swiftness, movementspeed increases dont stack, only the strongest is applied, so 33%>25%>10%>5% (both the dagger traits parts and a part of it and locust dont stack, as in you dont get 15% if dual wielding daggers nor 15% or 20% if 1 dagger and locust).

I do actually use the Signet of Undeath for dungeons when in pugs or story for guildie help… sometimes even in general node running for the DS while running but in general no not a single one of em.

Kardiamond.6952 – Upgarde to your tip with DS if Life force is between 10% and 49% (4/43% if Soul marks on, so that you dont waste possible Life blast damage)
Start with staff out, Chillblains and Putrid mark (yes its a waste of the transfer but worth it), DS Dark Path, Just as you see the projectile hit the enemy cast doom, upn hit weapon swap onto Dagger warhorn and spam 5, With hydromancy you got yourself a 15 second chill on the enemy, locus cripple and you can go a daze>immobilize for more pain, works even better if you got the Soul Marks or Locus upon getting hit in DS because of the massive life force generation.
Also a spectral graps on a immobilized melee range enemy will work as a 0.75 second knockdown.

Jaha.2840 – your hint 2 will kill people because if you… lets say take the jump from a stairway to a house roof that would take 1500 out of 25000 hp with like 15% life force, you will get defeated.

Nyorai.1630 – the SR trait actually gives +20 power pre 20% LF (the BWE trait) they just fudged up the tooltip as always.

Just to mention, dont actually craft eternity, it gives no benefit except the name and you can just hold onto both of the skins without getting screwed over by the in game clock.

Dulon.9347 – only that thieves can put it down to a 12 second downtime making it one of the most efficient over time healing effects and eles have a trait to have it on permanently, not to mention the fact that unlike all other healing effects (except the guardian gs hit heal) our do not scale with healing power with the 0.125 efficient, nor with power/damage delt (what it should since its stealing the life of the enemy…)
