I love how that site was brigaded by reddit to force positive reviews from the fanboys.
Guess you didn’t see it a couple days ago, when the average score was like 3/10 because of all the buttmad kiddies giving 0 stars?
There has to be goals to work towards, otherwise the population gets bored and leaves. Rewards are one of the types of goals ppl work towards…. why is that so hard for you to understand????
Riddle me this, young padawan, when you quit playing this game, who is going to give a flying kitten how many of these goals you achieved? Never mind, I’ll just tell you.. NOBODY!
You play a game to be entertained. There is no other reason. The only thing that will matter when all is said and done is whether or not you enjoyed it.
And to those of you who won’t spend a measly $50 on the expansion.. why the hell are you even still playing? I assume this is your first MMO, because you clearly have no idea how this works. Finish up your temper tantrums already and pony up, or just quit the game like you’ve probably threatened to do a hundred times already.

I expected GW2: HoT, and I got it.
(edited by Andred.1087)
The only issues I have is that I do agree the elite spec price is a little steep, although with that said, people achieved it before the first day was up, so I’m less than inclined to sympathize with the ones who are up in arms about it. Also, the hero point challenges that all but require other people to help are clearly going to present a problem down the road, but perhaps they will adjust them at that time to be more solo-able.
We are upset that we are forced to do things on a class we may not enjoy to unlock an elite specizalation we want to do the content on, and can then no longer do it as it’s all done before we can unlock it
No, you are upset because your expectations do not align with reality, and you interpret this to mean you have been wronged. And that is nobody’s fault but yours. If you simply accept the game as it is, you will never be upset by it. I know this might be a difficult concept to grasp, but please, try to understand this is just a video game.
I paid $50 for something that will entertain me for months to come. No complaints here.
“Grind” lol what a joke… they give you more hours of diversion and you find a way to complain about it. As if there’s any other reason to play a game. You can’t deny it, every complaint about “gating” this and “grindy” that simply boils down to “I want it sooner.”
How about you take a step back and realize you’re playing a kittening video game?
But what if it had been free?
People would still whine about it.
If you don’t like it, don’t play. It’s a kittening game after all. Maybe they’ll change it, but honestly I doubt it, and I think they’re totally justified if they don’t. It’s not the first time people have whined incessantly about something and ultimately got over it or quit. Game just hit 7 million players… they aren’t going to miss a few hundred who can’t be bothered to have a little patience.
I think it’s fair to say the majority of GW2 players have not had sufficient life experience to arrive to this conclusion, and honestly, I don’t imagine it will make any difference to read it without seeing it first-hand… but let me try to explain how it is that I never find myself up in arms about anything regarding this game. (Not anymore, that is.)
If I am not mistaken, ArenaNet has made it fairly clear what their objective is in producing this game, and it can be summed up nicely in this quote that I recall seeing more than once from various members of the team:
“It’s not about the destination; it’s about the journey.”
Aside from being a profound nugget of wisdom, this approach is evident in the expansion content. It will take more than a few hours to do much of anything, and that’s the bloody point, because when you do finally achieve whatever it is you’re working toward, it’s still nothing more than bits on a server. You don’t get a sensory or monetary reward, or even so much as a pat on the back here in the real world. So why are you doing it?
Think of it this way: when the day finally comes that you stop playing this game, who is going to give a flying kitten how many legendary weapons you had? Or if you unlocked all the elite specs? Or got whatever particular thing you have your sights set on? The obvious answer is literally nobody. You aren’t playing because it gets you anything in real life. You aren’t playing because you’re trying to make a fortune and send your future grandchildren to college. You’re playing because it’s a kitten game, and that’s what games are for.
So, at the end of the day, the whole purpose of it all is purely diversion. And that is what you have been given. You may take it or leave it, for as long as you wish, however it suits you and your own personal circumstances in life. You may even find it simply isn’t worth your time or money to play this game, and if that’s the case, well, you shouldn’t be playing.
All of you who have taken it upon yourselves to cry outrage over the amount of time it takes to do X, Y, or Z, all that amounts to is petty signaling. You just want to show you have principles that you refuse to lapse. But that means nothing. The reality is that I have chosen to be satisfied by this game, with all its ups and downs, because the only thing I seek from it is to be entertained, and for as long as I am entertained, I will continue to enjoy it.
I urge any of you who are unsatisfied with the game to consider this perspective. It has rid me of the self-imposed burden of being upset about nothing, and I’m sure it can do the same for you.
(edited by Andred.1087)
What on Earth are you on about? You haven’t even presented any form of argument.
Are you suggesting the expansion is a failure because you have to play it for more than a couple weeks to get something you want from it? How dare ANet give you a reason to keep coming back!
They’re not joking around when they say “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey.” If you can’t appreciate that philosophy, then you’re on a completely different page than ANet is. Think about it… why are you even playing the game? The stuff you get doesn’t matter at all. The entire objective is diversion, and that’s what you have been given.
(edited by Andred.1087)
The pacing is way too slow for me. It takes hours just to get 1 mastery doing the same events over and over again.
It is a hassle to get anywhere, and you have to spend quite a bit of time just to figure out if it requires a mastery you don’t have yet.
What the hell do you want then? To finish all of it in a couple of weeks? So you can come on here and whine about being bored?
Don’t play then. The rest of us are having fun.
Who are “The rest of us” ?
This must be a social group/cult I’m not a part of.
Yes, much like the elusive and certainly overestimated “[a] lot of us” from a couple posts up.

Hilarious. There are people who have already unlocked elite specs, THE FIRST DAY, and still others are complaining it will take way too long… news flash guys, if people have done it in 16 hours, you can do it in little more than a week by putting in a measly 2 hours a day… Not shocked that people are whining though, it’s as predictable as the sun coming up in the morning.
As a zerker guardian I’ve definitely run into trouble against the new mobs. They’re easy to handle in a group, but they’re quite dangerous to take on alone, because with some of them, it only takes one mistake, and you’re toast. Honestly it feels really good to take on a group of Mordrem Guard by myself and come out alive, knowing that I had to decide a plan of attack first, and execute it near-flawlessly, but it’s pretty brutal at times, especially compared to having just one more person with you.
I like the challenges presented by the new mobs, but I feel they’re not as balanced as they could be. They’re too easy to steamroll when you’re not alone, and they’re too easy to get steamrolled by if you’re not fortunate enough to have other humans nearby. Still, I think they’re not too bad. Rough on zerkers though, that’s for sure.
Dude just buy it legit from ANet and save yourself the trouble. Can you really not afford a few more euros?
Seriously? Why would you even consider continuing to play this game if you don’t plan on getting the expansions? You know that’s where all the new stuff is going to be now. And how hard is it to scrounge up $50 for something you’ll get hundreds of hours of entertainment from? By all means, make a judgment based on your own personal circumstances, but I really don’t think it’s worth it to keep playing if you don’t plan on eventually getting this expansion, and the future ones.
Honestly though, why are you still playing this game if you’re not going to get HoT?
(edited by Andred.1087)
What, were you expecting it to be handed to you at the beginning? And if it was, wouldn’t you then proceed to not do anything in the new maps and complain there’s nothing to do?
If I find anything, I’m definitely going to send a poem.
Meh, I hate DH honestly. All I’m saying is it’s mad confusing. Frankly I don’t think any of them should have the dragon icon, but if that’s an arrowhead, then I’m a bloody necromancer. Which I guess is true since I do have a necromancer. Which I’m actually looking forward to playing the elite spec on, unlike the garbage DH.
(edited by Andred.1087)
Not actually expecting an answer, but would anyone on the ANet team with some insight into this be willing to share WHY the Dragonhunter icon is a heraldry, and the Herald icon is a dragon head???
I know the Herald channels Glint, yadda yadda, whatever, but doesn’t it seem obvious at this point that they should have been the other way around?
I always spend it on Stealth Disruptor Traps or some such, it only takes 2 to hit the daily, then I just trash ’em.
This morning I dreamed I was at the ANet offices, sitting around with the developers and playing some Fractals. It was in the middle of the work day, and they kept me waiting a long time, I guess because they had work to do or something, but once they all finally clicked “Ready” to go to the next one, we appeared on a brand new, never-before-seen Fractal island!
We started at the top of a very tall wooden structure, made mostly of platforms we had to jump down one by one. At the bottom was a large enclosure, something like the Uncategorized Fractal, but there was a huge Jade Maw-esque monster tangled all up inside it! I don’t know if it was a boss level or if that was just for atmosphere, as we didn’t get far before I woke up.
I’m not sure if I consciously made this decision, or if I was just so delirious from starting to wake up (I could barely keep my eyes open), but I figured it was just as well for me to jump as far down as I could and let the others res me. It was about that time I woke up, but I’m sure my party members were thrilled at my selfless daring.
Anyway, I sure would like to see some new Fractals soon. Cheers!

I think they have managed to kitten off every player in some way so far with all the unpopular ideas
Except the ones like me who don’t treat godkitten video games like the end of the world…
(edited by Andred.1087)
Gods forbid you have to exercise restraint.
(edited by Andred.1087)
We need a lot of grinding. We need things to work towards.
They are two different things.
Yes… so tired of people using this word to mean “more work than I’m willing to put in.” Well guess what? If it’s not worth the effort to you, then you have decided not to get that reward.
idk I didn’t have any problem when I played it. I run DPS, which is definitely an important role to have a few people filling. I think you guys are over-estimating the importance of everybody bringing a special mechanic to the table; I really doubt you’re ever going to get snubbed just for being a Guardian. Just because other classes can do X, Y, or Z a little better doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find a group, especially when coordinating with your group before going in is very important.
Feel free to roll another toon though; there’s a reason some people keep 80’s of every profession, and if you’ve been playing a while, and do your dailies often, you should have plenty of free XP to level new characters with.
(edited by Andred.1087)
I’ll be sticking with vanilla guard. DH virtues are a huge turn-off for me.
I’ve pretty much mained guardian sense release and used sword 90% of the time.
Personally the only issue I have is sometimes I’m not really facing an enemy that is directly in front of me and I am targeted to but miss. Really the auto attack chain is fine, the blink and blind is great, and the 3rd skill is typically fine.
Same, it’s annoying sometimes, but I still swear by sword+focus, and it works kitten well enough for me. idk what all the QQ is about, I swear this forum is way too much salt for my diet
idk who cares about any of it anyway, it’s just a video game…
Yeah it’s BS, mobs that don’t give experience don’t proc the effect, which includes ALL the mobs during Vinewrath. I don’t know how the hell they haven’t fixed this yet, like, what is so godkitten hard about making on-kill procs happen on every kill?
I can appreciate the new playstyle it brings to the class, as that’s exactly what they were going for. However, it’s pretty explicitly worse than base Guardian for high-level PvE content like Fractals, because imo, the only reason you should ever be ranging on a Guardian (again, in PvE) is if you absolutely don’t have the option of going all melee in a particular encounter.
Maybe they will make some changes that make it better, but idk if I will ever be able to get over losing insta-cast on the virtues. Too many time-critical uses for those effects.
(edited by Andred.1087)
I’m actually really looking forward to having a proper ranged power weapon on my guard.
Why? Ranged on a Guardian should only ever be used when pure melee is just not an option. I mean, I was excited about it too, but when I played DH in the betas, it felt like an incredible downgrade. No insta-cast on virtues? No thanks, I kinda need those to survive.
(edited by Andred.1087)
Again, where do you people get off calling anything you find remotely boring a “grind?” There’s a difference between “grind” and long-term goals! You can’t just get everything you want in a week! Christ!!
So much salt, I love it when people whine about “grind” when you can literally do anything in-game that gives decent loot and get your ascended gear in a few months’ time, just with a couple hours a day. Top-tier gear doesn’t just fall out of the sky!
You know you can hide that… right?
SW is hardly “broken” … while the income from doing it is considerable, most of that is from selling loot / materials to other players, which, as John Smith pointed out, does not introduce any new money into the economy, unlike flat gold rewards.
Inb4 everything is fine and all this doomsaying is over nothing, like always
I really liked my daredevil, I think I only had 2 skills on my bar (on my melee set) that weren’t capable of interrupting, so ofc I carried the pulmonary rupture trait, and also torment on interrupt (from Trickery I think?)
Acrobatics has major synergy with all the dodging, and I found myself rarely at a loss for endurance: meanwhile I can evade or interrupt nearly every attack, while retaining an impressive amount of mobility.
I will probably be playing a lot of HoT with my thief, rather than my current guardian main, seeing the way dragonhunter is going..
(edited by Andred.1087)
I think DH will be undesirable in dungeons/fractals, and far from ideal for ordinary PvE, but certainly workable. It may find more use in PvP, if they fix the glaring issues, and who knows what niche use it might have in some raid or another?
As for me, I think I might end up sticking with regular guard. Losing instant virtues for weird, clunky active moves is off-putting enough, and the other things we gain are just not enough to make up for it. Longbow is a solid ranged option, but playing ranged on a guardian unless you absolutely have to is kind of silly. And the traps are pretty useless in their current state, the only one I even bothered slotting was Procession of Blades, since it does such high damage, and complements GS pull->spin really well vs. mob groups.
Seems to me that Dragonhunter is meant to be played at range most of the time, which is just sub-optimal for guardian, period.
(edited by Andred.1087)
I think the enemies are a little strong for soloing, but they seem fine for group combat, which is probably what they calibrated it to for the events. A lot of it does have to do with figuring out new strategies, but there’s definitely an unexpectedly high level of punishment for not knowing them.
I like the synergy with Daredevil, there are several endurance/vigor traits that make repeated dodging that much easier, and other synergies with evasion and the physical heal skill.
(edited by Andred.1087)
I noticed earlier I wasn’t getting the automatic aegis from Courage passive unless I activated it or swapped spec lines. I assume it was a bug.
It’s best just not to be loyal to companies in the first place. Exchange your money for their product if you wish, but they are not your friend.
This exactly. Loyalty to a company is meaningless, and they do not owe you anything for it.
If I’ve said it before, I’ve said it a million times: THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. And beyond that, it is a video game that costs the price of a standard AAA game yet provides thousands of hours of entertainment. You’ve gotten your money’s worth. All else is bonus, and you ought to be kittening grateful, because you aren’t going to find a better MMO experience out there.
I understand the mindset of a lot of these people is probably not the nicest, but how exactly is it elitist to not want to waste your time? Not everybody enjoys piddling around a dungeon for an hour because they got people in the party who don’t know what they’re doing. And trust me, I’ve jumped into AC with a totally random group of noobs, just for giggles, and even with good instruction, there are some things you just have to be prepared for when you show up, or you’re not going to succeed.
I’m not saying it’s fair to kick people for low AP if you don’t specify that in the party description, but I really think you all get way too worked up about it. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes for you to find another party, or just start your own. Certainly less time than it takes to come on here and whine about it.
Remember dungeons? Then fractals were the next big thing. There was also a living breathing dynamic world. And then it was bi-weekly updates. Oh, and Guild Missions!
All abandoned. They’ll move on to something else soon enough so even if raids do take a lot of dev effort (which they do), it won’t be for too long, I’d imagine.
Fractals, dynamic world, and frequent content updates are all coming back after the expansion. I expect more guild missions will come eventually, as well. Get your facts straight.
Colin was very clear that raids are the way they will continue to add challenging content to the game, integrating with future expansions and other releases. If you think he wasn’t 100% serious, I don’t know why you’re wasting your time on this game.
Augh it’s so sickening to see you all treating this game like it’s the pinnacle of life, as if it doesn’t live up to your every expectation, existence will lose all meaning!
I’ll just be over here playing video games for entertainment… feel free to join whenever you like.
Christ on a pancake, find something else to do! Is it so hard??
