My issues with Dragonhunter

Andred.1087

I feel like I started to get into the groove of it pretty quickly, even against the new mobs, but the DPS definitely didn’t compare with my regular build. But that’s the trade-off of ranged weapons.

I think the virtues still need a bit of work, as others are saying. They felt rather clunky, but it could just be that I need more time to adjust to the role.

Don’t get me wrong, i think this shiro legend is awesome probably my favortie so far, but does this mean they will start releasing elite specs again, or will we have another long fuggin break.

Its been a month since the last elite spec, but it feels like it was this long….

Actually it has been 2 1/2 months.

Yeah I was about to say, no way it’s only been a month, lol.

Idk if anyone has said it already… (I hardly ever come here anymore because I’m not in love with being brutally censored), but what if the Revenant’s elite legend is Glint? That would be pretty dope just sayiiin

But guys! Longbows!

Andred.1087

When longbow was first datamined as Guardian’s new weapon, I was pretty disappointed. But over time I came to see that Guardian didn’t need more melee. It has excessive melee already! And it lacks in range and condition damage. This is exactly what Guardian needs to have a competitive range game.

They saw where the class was weak, and they addressed it. I couldn’t be more excited to see what happens with it, and I will definitely be trying it out! Already planning on rolling a Revenant anyway, though; why not both?

Centaur and Horses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Andred.1087

Andred.1087

To suggest centaurs evolved from horses is absurd. It’s rather difficult to imagine they evolved at all, as there is no evolutionary precedent for such an arbitrary combination of features from two very disparate species. However, there is evidence of different species of centaur, as the Elonian centaur has distinctly different features than the Tyrian mainland variant, suggesting that they did evolve naturally over a long period. I think the closest-to-logical answer to their origin is that centaurs share a distant mutual ancestor with horses.

As for why there are no observable horses in Tyria, I believe this is obvious: the horses must have fallen under the control of some equine elder dragon, and are, as we speak, mustering their forces for an intricately-planned assault on civilization! Ready yourselves, Tyrians, for the biggest threat to this world comes not in the form of twisting vines, but with the thundering sound of a million hooves cascading over the hills and mountains in sweeping unison, ravaging the countryside in a blazing fury, and carrying the world to a swift, majestic doom!

Of course not, lol. Beta testers were paid before. Nowadays people pay, or grind, for the chance to be a beta tester.

Get a staff of beta testers and pay them, I’m not doing it for free for you.

They do internal beta tests. The idea behind all this is to encourage people to play in the new zones with a slight chance to get a key. Nobody is forcing anyone to “grind” for one. If people force themselves to play just for the sake of getting access then that’s their fault, not the developers.

But is it entirely their fault? After all, the developers (and most game developers for the last decade) are the ones who have turned public betas into PR stunts, making players think they’re just happy fun-times with exclusive early-access content, rather than actual tests. People can only make decisions based on what they perceive, and the gaming industry has twisted the general perception of public beta testing into something far different than what it actually is.

Yeah, true. It just seems that public betas are not really for the purpose of finding bugs, other than those that can only be discovered by the introduction of more players. If you want to find bugs, you pay people to do it, because it takes many hours of careful experimentation to exhaustively test a system, which can’t exactly be substituted with many players experiencing the same content for a short time.

Breaking Loot Streaks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Andred.1087

I will say it again. Discussion about RNG is pointless. You cannot determine how the system works from observation, so any assertion of a perceived problem with the loot system is purely speculative. Furthermore, there is no solution to this that will satisfy everybody. Now, everybody should be satisfied already, if it truly is a fair system, but because there will always be those who think they deserve better, there is nothing to be done.

In the absence of developer involvement, this thread and all other threads discussing the loot system are of no value, and serve only as a place for those with rudimentary understanding of math to (apparently) flaunt their knowledge.

Why do we even give a kitten about RNG? You can’t change it! Talking about it is moot. If the devs see a problem, they will address it. If they have intentionally made it unfair, we can do nothing about it. The true reality of the RNG cannot be ascertained from observation of outcomes, and any effort to do so is futile. Just play the kitten game and take what it gives you.

Would you work for free ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Andred.1087

Andred.1087

It’s still doing something for free that is an actual job that some people get paid to do.

If you enjoy beta testing, then great. But don’t act like it’s anything more than that. You’re not winning the lottery, it’s literally just an opportunity to do free labor for ANet that you might enjoy.

That’s why it’s so kitten frustrating seeing all this whining about not getting a portal… like, think for a second about why you’re so excited about beta testing. Why is that exciting at all? It’s not! But game developers have spent years perfecting their presentation of beta testing to make fans inexplicably infatuated with it, so they can get free testing from them. What’s the first thing you think about when ANet says “HoT Beta?” If what you’re envisioning is not a few hours of testing specific things / doing nothing beneficial to you while getting a slight sneak-peek of the expansion, you’ve been duped. It’s not going to blow your mind, nor will it be anywhere near ‘awesome.’. It’s a job, that someone could have been paid to do, and you’re doing it for free, because you think it’s going to be fun, probably more than it actually is.

Now, would I throw away a beta portal? No way! I do want to see what’s going on, and a few hours is a pretty small commitment. But kitten ed if I’m gonna throw a fit if I don’t have that opportunity.

You're changing traits; can we respec gear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ascended is really not that bad… I think the cost is appropriate for BiS gear. You can easily get enough money to do it by just playing the game for a while and accruing gold/mats. That’s what you’re supposed to do; it is a casual game, after all.

Oh I have enough gold to buy all the mats for all 3 tiers, it’s just an issue I really don’t see the reason as to why exactly. Sure it’s better, but not by much. As far as I can tell ascended is really only used for fractals because of an asinine agony damage system.

Yeah I mean, that’s fair. I did Fractals a lot, so I needed more ascended gear. But since I can foresee-ably afford to equip all my characters (that I use, anyway) with ascended, I might as well. Except my Ele, since I have yet to do any work in Tailor.

Ascended Gear and Specializations

While 1/3 is statistically significant, I think the difference will not be noticeable for the vast majority of builds. And where it is, it will probably be an improvement, as assigning traits for the purpose of boosting different stats than your gear (i.e. spreading your stats thinner) almost always makes you less effective. I understand the compulsion to believe that re-assigning traits for different stats is a way to change your build for specific situations, but I think the effectiveness of this is exaggerated.

There is no tanking or support in GW2. Period. No build on any class can stand in the line of fire for an extended time and not die. No build on any class can bring more value to the group by focusing on support skills instead of attacking and using support reactively. This is a game where the fighting makes some actual sense, in that not getting hit is always better than getting hit, and not fighting is always worse than fighting.

Anyway, take a look at any MMO to come out since GW2. ESO, Wildstar, SWTOR, you name it. They’ve all fallen flat on their faces, and the ones that came out with sub fees have all gone F2P within a year of release. Meanwhile GW2 is seeing more and more influx of players thanks to the expansion announcement and sales, and continues to deliver quality content and features based on feedback from the players.

To compare GW2 to a phoenix is ridiculous, as that would suggest the game is dead and rising again. I’ve been playing consistently for about the last year, and I can say confidently it has never been doing poorly, and now it is only getting stronger.

i don’t have a 100% map completion ankitten ot planning in doing it any time soon, i really don’t like dungeons but AFAIK it’s something forced.
so in short, you’re forced to do stuff you don’t like, changing the game in to labor.

Why are we even having a discussion about trust? Why do you need to trust a company developing a game?? Do you ask the same questions about all your entertainment? Do you feel like you need to trust television studios? Do you have an issue with how much information they release about their products, or the amount of communication they have with their fans? NO! You don’t even THINK about that when you’re watching TV, so please can anybody tell me, how is this different?!

Video games are entertainment media. You invest exactly as much as you want into them, until they no longer satisfy you, then you move on to something else. What commitment do you have to this game that you need to feel trust for the developers? You’re free to use your leisure time anywhere you want and re-appropriate it at will.
