When you pull up chat during a big open world event
Attachments:
Are you kidding me? You hyped alot with FoV change. I was really looking forward to it. Now i need to wait even longer… This is just absurd.
“Absurd?” Are you seriously saying it is wildly unbelievable / unacceptable that something unexpected happened and you now have to wait a couple extra days for an update to a video game? Can you even imagine how many people are going to die violent and undeserved deaths in the next 24 hours while you whine about having to wait for this update?
Nice thread. I’ve been looking for some tips for a WvW medi build.
I’ve been running a 0/6/6/1/1 medi build for a couple of weeks, GS/S+F and full zerk because I made that armor for PvE, but as long as you don’t find yourself outnumbered, it works pretty well. Though that’s pretty much the story of WvW, huh?
Yeahhh when you’re up against numbers like that, it’s just hopeless. I started doing WvW to get map completion, but now that I’ve finished that, I’m not sure I’ll keep playing. I mean, what’s the point, when almost all of the battles come down to how many people you brought?
I remember playing Planetside 2 and having similar feelings about it, although in that case, every outpost you captured had a spawn point, and you could spawn inside a place that was being attacked, so it was a lot easier to keep battles going for longer, which means strategic choices might have a more significant impact. Of course, that game is so different it’s like apples to oranges, but at least in that game anybody could make a major difference in a fight if they played well. In GW2 it’s just stack up, buff up, and run your blob into their blob until one of the blobs is gone.
Not sure what this thread is even about anymore but I just wanted to drop in and say,
Magoo is facerolling all over CD and EBay this week, and it sucks a lot.
Does the Windows option for pressing Ctrl to locate the cursor work in-game? That might help, though I suspect it doesn’t show with the game running.
That hasn’t seemed to stop them with dungeons/fractals, the whole not adding new content thing.
Yeah, but then, they never took those out, either. I think it’s just an issue of taking the lesser of two disgruntled player factions. I do hope they bring it back at some point, though. I completely missed out on it the first time!
As to why they have yet to bring SAB back, I have no idea, other than that they’ve been pretty busy with the Living World and leading that into HoT.
As to why SAB is not a permanent fixture in the game, I theorize that it’s simply because the devs have no intention of adding anything to it, and if it were permanently in the game, rather than asking why it’s not been brought back, there would be just as many (probably more) people asking why it’s not being added to, why it’s the same boring old thing as before, etc.
It seems the devs just meant for SAB to be a one-time event, so the community that wants SAB will probably never be satisfied.
Except every analysis shows that the number of keys needed, you would be better off trading those gems for gold to buy the skin you want directly.
Or you could join the many others who farm the keys off personal story, whom we probably have to thank for the skins being cheaper to buy off the TP in the first place.
I guess, maybe, I dunno. I’m around 150% now and I’d say I do seem to get a pretty good number of rares/exotics, but a lot of those might come from bags, which mostly aren’t affected by MF.
Lol necro’d…
I think it’d be dope if we had a class that could, like, channel the power of old legends from the GW universe, maybe through the power of the Mists or something, idk just spitballing here
Ugh longbow guardian? Why do people want this? I know guardian’s ranged game is a little lacking, but so what? Range isn’t the point of playing guard. Personally I want axe over longbow, but it’s seeming more and more like I’m alone in that… oh well, I guess I’ll be playing Rev for a while anyway.
So you want to not play any of the game because of how your character looks? I mean, that’s your choice and all, but I’d have to recommend going on and playing the game, considering that’s probably why you bought it…

Lol @ everyone who didn’t actually read the OP… yeah I really wish waypoints were account bound.
Actually, the only thing i’m missing for 100% completion is one of the vistas in blue’s garrison, so here’s hoping my server is blue come reset time tonight.
Fortune has favored me on this day!
Judging from what I’ve seen in this thread, I would think maybe not. Check it out and see if this answers your question.
Yeah, like how Skyrim had all those nearly-identical dragons you had to fight over and over… what a bunch of lazy good-for-nothing developers am I right? Good developers would have completely unique content throughout the entire game and nothing would be the same as anything else. /s
This is the kind of dumb stuff that people need to stop thinking about. Don’t you have something more important on your mind than whether or not HoT will meet whatever arbitrary expectations you’ve set? Surely you’ve done this dance enough times to know that it never ends well. And sitting around speculating and thinking about it will only make you even more disappointed when it doesn’t match up with your progressively less realistic expectations.
I promise if you just stop thinking about this and play the game, you’ll have a lot more peace of mind when the expansion hits, because when you expect nothing but what has been confirmed, it’s hard to be disappointed.
(edited by Andred.1087)
I Don’t see why people will be having trouble saving money for the expansion you can just it with ingame gold its months away just save 10g everyday till you got 4-6k+ gems saved up and you should have enough or close to it. Since the expansion is buyable with gems.
We don’t know that it’s buyable with gems, there has been no statement to that effect. If there has, please link it, I’m sure many people on tight budgets would love to know they don’t have to piggy bank some real money to get ready.
I’m pretty certain they will not be offering the expansion for purchase with gems, at least not initially. Imagine what that would do to the gold-gems exchange!
Yeah that game totally needs more “twitch” people…. not.
i dont see a bad thing about it?
Maybe you should take a look at the twitchchat once in a while and you will know what I mean.
As if in-game chat is any less cringe-inducing
Why focus on old ideologies? It’s 2015. Let them do something new and different. You might have nostalgia for a bunch of old games, but following in the ways of the past is the surest way to get left behind.
Also, are you claiming GW2 is not conducive to cooperation? Because I fail to see how that’s a valid assertion.

ANet, like any company, wants to sell what sells well. It’s quite possible, judging by how many people are wearing an outfit the day it’s first available, that outfits sell much more than armor. A light armor, for example, will only be bought by those who have a light armor char and who like that armor enough to commit to changing their char’s look (essentially) permanently. An outfit can be bought by any that it appeals to and the new look is not a commitment but a whim.
If outfits far outstrip armor in what sells in the gemstore then ANet would be foolish to make a lesser selling product (the armor).
Agreed. They should add more armor skins to the game, and I don’t doubt that they will, probably coming with the expansion, but if outfits make them more money than armor skins, that’s a pretty reasonable justification for making more outfits than armor skins.
I used to be pretty against WvW requirement for map completion, but last week my server got pitted against two less active ones, and I took the opportunity to map out most of it and found it’s not nearly as difficult as I thought. Granted, it’s easier for my server at the moment than it has been in the past, but EB is the only map that might present a real challenge to completion, as the borderlands can be done as your team rotates into that color.
Actually, the only thing i’m missing for 100% completion is one of the vistas in blue’s garrison, so here’s hoping my server is blue come reset time tonight.
How smooth would WvWgameplay be on DirectX 12
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Andred.1087
DX12 allows the CPU to fully use all cores. Previously, rendering would be stuck on one core, so there was only so much you could push through. A whole different kind of “CPU bottleneck”. Now that can be alleviated, and I am certain we would see massive performance increases on all hardware.
Again, that requires the game’s rendering code to actually be optimized to make full use of DX12’s multi-threading capabilities. Porting to DX12 doesn’t automagically make it better.
I really hope the first Guardian spec is offense-oriented, or at least equally viable in that way as the base profession. I’m thinking axe for the weapon, although something deep down tells me we might be looking at a bow…
Honestly it’s the lack of a 64 bit client but the ability to go over 4GB of Memory that’s simply atrocious at this stage.
Either limit it back to where the client can’t go over 4GB of Memory or give us a 64 bit client.
Crashing on huge raid bosses is simply terrible.
?? I know the limitations you are referring to, but I’ve only ever had GW2 crash because of actual physical problems with my RAM, and I’ve never seen the memory usage get that high, although I don’t recall any number for the memory usage that I’ve seen, so it could be I just forgot.
I don’t see how the market-dictated price of silk is a problem to begin with. You might not like how much it costs, but that’s just the way it goes.
its not really dictated by the market. Its value was created by turning a desire to have best in slot into a value for silk.
The crafting recipe being noticeably different than other ascended basic recipes, and the structure of silk in every armorcraft is the main reason the cost for silk is so high
How does the market not dictate the price? It’s all supply and demand. What you’re talking about is factors that determine demand, which in turn affects the price.
I know that ANet tweaked the recipes to do something, honestly I can’t recall what, but frankly I don’t care. Supply and demand are still the determining factors of the market price, and I don’t see the current price as problematic. Sure, it does make ascended light armor more expensive than the rest, and ANet could have maybe thought that through a little better if they wanted it to be roughly equivalent, but the amount of money required to make ascended armor is not terribly difficult to obtain, and ascended is far from required for anything other than the highest level Fractals.
I don’t see how the market-dictated price of silk is a problem to begin with. You might not like how much it costs, but that’s just the way it goes.
Very interested in specializations as well, although another top pick for me is WHY NOT BUILD SAVER kitten
Yep, vendor is the best option at present, and that’s not changing in the foreseeable future. You’re just gonna have to bite the bullet and sell them all.
Well, typically what people do when they reach max level is try to accomplish as much as possible. 100% map complete, full ascended gear with all your favorite skins, etc. I’d recommend a thorough look at the achievements to see if there’s anything that interests you, although if you just don’t enjoy any activities in the game, then it might not be for you.
Yeah, that’s pretty whack. I imagine it was an automated system that detected this and issued the order for you to change it when that NPC was created, so you should definitely contact customer support and make your case. If it matters that much to you, that is, since you did say you haven’t touched that character in ages.
its human nature to want to be different
Apparently I’m broken, because that phrase really doesn’t apply to me. I don’t really give a rat’s kitten if I’m ‘different.’ I don’t have any particular desire to ‘stand out in the crowd’ (it tends to make one a target). Conversely I don’t have any driving to desire to conform either.
shrug
You honestly aren’t bothered by the idea of living your whole life as a complete nobody? Because that’s one of the major driving forces behind my goals in life. Normalcy is the unfortunate consequence of a world with limited resources, and so “normals” are nothing but pawns in the money-making machines of the rich, living their whole lives by the standards set forth by the very people who stand to make money taking advantage of it.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with being considerably “normal” (although everybody is different in their own way), but the lack of a desire to avoid that is odd to me.
On topic: those wings are gross and literally half the people playing right now have them. I move that everybody reading this adopt a policy of saying “NICE WINGS” in ‘say’ chat to everyone they see wearing them.
I don’t really see how announcing its not going to come back now would be any better or worse than just having April 1st roll around and not having it appear. Its going to be the same amount of disappointment and anger either way.
People just need to stop expecting it at certain times or with every update and just roll with it, then instead of being disappointed when it doesn’t come back you’ll just be happy when it does.
Yeah, how dare people who spent actual money on an item that hasn’t been useful for 18 months now have expectations that the content rendering said item useful again return on some sort of timeline!
Infinite continue coin. Wiki it.
Passive-aggressive sarcasm aside, it’s ridiculous to come on here at the beginning of March and say “let us know now if it’s coming in April” when they clearly would have done that already if it were. It’s also ridiculous to expect it to happen when there has been zero indication that it will anytime soon.
Also, has anybody brought up what would absolutely be happening if it were a permanent fixture in the game? Instead of non-stop clamoring for it to come back, there would be non-stop clamoring for it to be updated, which is obviously not high priority for the devs since they have the rest of the actual game to worry about updating. If SAB were permanent, the devs would still not be working on it any more than they are now, and people would just be complaining for a slightly different reason.
I do think it should come back; I never even got to experience it once! But to make it a permanent part of the game would only result in the same demands for updates, but with higher frequency.

I agree, it’s frustrating. Although it’s not exactly necessary I guess. Along the same vein, I would like a item slot bar for all my trinkets and toys
Yessss! An extra bar for quick access to some items would be awesome.
Man this thread is bad for me. I hadn’t thought about all the neat QoL things that could be in the UI but aren’t. A bar like that would be great, especially if you could just put any items on it, which I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to, since it’s just a shortcut for opening your inventory and doing it there. Food, potions, weapons… my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
I’d still give all of that up for a BUILD SAVER
I probably wouldn’t play the HoT Beta unless they paid me. What’s the point? You get to essentially do free work for them, and experience a bunch of content you’ll have already seen when it’s released…
Nobody should be paying up front to alpha/beta test a game and this is a mentality that needs to go away.
It’s the best when they’re “early access,” and you get to pay full price to play a completely broken game until the developers run out of money.
(edited by Andred.1087)
This is one of the major issues with MMO’s that engender this ‘entitled’ mentality. Because things are happening over time, and sometimes those things are limited in duration, people will inevitably miss out. But just because other people had an opportunity that you missed, you think you’ve been “screwed over” by ANet, as if they’re obligated to provide the exact same experience to every player regardless of when they’re actively playing. This is just what happens when you miss out on something.
Of course, it’s fine to ask for it again, nothing wrong with that, just please don’t act like you’ve been cheated out of something you rightfully deserve.

So far GW2 has been rather CPU intensive, and I wouldn’t expect the expansion to work differently, except of course the new technology they’ve been putting in, which sounds to me like it will be all improvements. Though from what I’ve read, due to continued reliance on DirectX 9, it’s going to be difficult to get flawless performance no matter how good your build is.
It’s possible with some outfits to hide the shoulders by hiding your armor shoulders before putting it on, but I guess you can’t know if that works on any particular outfit without trying it first.
Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Andred.1087
Thanks. Not sure why it didn’t come up when I searched for it.
That would be because whoever they contracted to build these forums did a kitten-poor job and left a bunch of bugs everywhere that nobody at ANet can fix.
On topic, I should very much hope they will include a character slot with the expansion. They’re releasing a new profession, which means a lot of people will want to make a new character, but many of the more dedicated players will have already filled all their slots, so making them buy an expansion and then another character slot just to experience something that comes with the expansion would be pretty Scroogey on ANet’s part.
With ANet, the answer is always “no” unless/until they’ve said anything about it, i.e. if it’s not being talked about now, it’s not happening in the expansion.
Also keep in mind the Revenant will have upkeep skills that constantly drain energy while in use, which is something else the player will have to balance with healing.
Have you tried WvW at all? It might not offer quite what you’re looking for, but it’s definitely something different to do, and if you’ve never done it, you ought to be entertained for a little while anyway. Plus, map completion.
There are also dungeons and fractals to be conquered, if you haven’t done that, or you could go out and do all the jumping puzzles (10 AP per, not to be taken lightly!) There’s a pretty good amount of stuff to do in this game. A lot of people just artificially limit themselves by saying “eww, no, I don’t ever want to do that” and then those same people come on here and complain that there’s nothing to do. Not saying that’s you or anything, but it happens a lot.
An attribute of a good MMO is that it should keep you entertained for the entire time you are playing it and offer regular updates to substantiate this. It is not good when some of the playerbase are stuck in a ‘bored limbo’ waiting for an expansion, because this is a sign that the original game is lacking in certain areas.
Sorry, are you claiming there exists any MMO that meets this criteria? Because I would love to see it.
Also, if you think it’s a weak argument to say “do something else if you’re bored,” you clearly have yet to reach a point in your life where you need to limit your play time so you can accomplish something meaningful; because when you don’t have all the time in the world to be bored, spending any time on something you don’t like doing is absolute waste.
And especially since this game has no subscription fee, there is no reason to make yourself play it if you can’t find something to do that you like. Just because the question was asked “what should I do in-game” doesn’t mean the answer can’t be “maybe nothing.”

Revenant snip from Massively and other stuff
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Andred.1087
You speak as if they’re just now deciding on all the mechanics of the Revenant and winging the entire thing. You know they’ve been testing and refining this for a while now, right? It’s nice that you think you have something to offer to the process, but I guarantee there is no concern you can imagine that they aren’t already trying to address during development.
I’ve never had that problem. I don’t think it’s on their end.
I’m baffled that this is not among the highest priority features. This system is completely independent of trait acquisition, so there’s no reason it has to wait on that. Somebody had to have brought this up years ago, and for whatever stupid reason it got shot down. Like, seriously? This is one of the most obviously necessary features if they ever want this to be an eSport, and somehow they still haven’t gotten around to doing it.
I’d much rather they make pets not completely worthless first.
Actually I’m not. Because you are incapable of knowing all of those variables by the nature of their mechanics. My statement is true. They would not be able to be random if you could know them, that you can’t doesn’t change the fact.
Assuming the variables are knowable, you are correct, but I do not think there is sufficient evidence to suggest that quantum mechanics might be deterministic. Way off topic though.
There are other non-RNG-based options for DPS-increasing sigils, arguably on par with these, if not better. I don’t see why this is a problem.
