I think it has a lot to do with the layout. For just getting around to all your services, Hollow is just more convenient.

I can waypoint just fine to any of the Precipice services, way more convenient than walking >.>

THE PRECIPICE WILL PREVAIL

Hahaha, I’m sure our guild will take the Hollow eventually too, Ghost… :P

Scrapper Mechanic Needs Reworked

in Engineer

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Lots of people are running Scrapper now, most of them don’t even use the F-gyro, and a lot only use the traits.

Yesterday someone said on chat: “Oh, I totally forgot I can use that function thingie to revive people.” I think that summarize the situation very well.

I have nothing more to say. Things haven’t changed a bit until now, and I doubt they will change in the short term. Hope is still there, though (Bad habits never surrender).

Mentor Fake Tag

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ardid.7203

Commander tags are bought with gold, mentor tags are obtained through simple xp.
None of them guarantee the user is of any value to the rest. There isn’t any prestige or qualification in them: the whole system is sustained by mere consensus and a bit of decency.

It worked with the commander tag, and it will work with the mentor tag too, specially when the tags became as common as the commander ones (Wich will happen in a very short time, really).

People will go back to see commander tagged people as “Those who are trying to organize things” and understand the new apple thingie indicates people “Open to answer questions about the game”.

Both will still be potentially capable of being jerks.

PS:
Personally, I think Anet should refund the gold people paid for the commander tag, and put the tag at the end of the new Pact Commander mastery line. Then commanders would be seen as people that have worked to get the tag.

The difficulty is fine. I’m totally casual (play less than 5 hours a week) and don’t find it that hard, really. The HP were too grindy, and the elites were too important to push them that far into the content.

Advice: Got a free zerker weapon

in Engineer

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Pick rifle.

If you pick hammer without being a scrapper, you will not be able to use it anyway in PvE. You’ll have plenty of time to craft or get an ascended hammer while you unlock all the hero points you’ll need for the scrapper. Same for the pistols and shield, which don’t make the best use of the zerker stats.

Remeber this doesn’t need to be your “only and final” weapon. It is just the first. As an engie, you should always carry all your weapons with yourself, because every one of them gives you something different and are best in different situations.

In shorter words: Since you’ll end with a full set of weapons in the end, my advice is to begin with zerker rifle.

My Point: Content should be soloable. Hard, but soloable. Specially content you NEED to do to improve your character.

Well.

After befriending a few frog lads, gliding around non-stop for a couple of days, losing quite a lot of rally points because of people don’t defending anything and collecting and impressive amount of things I can’t even imagine what are for, I decided to put myself a goal so I can get at least something done.

I knew I can’t go for anything legendary. I don’t have THAT amount of time to invest, or money, and the only legendary skin I like so far is HOPE, but I don’t use pistols. (Predator is somewhat nice, but It doesn’t fit my Asura at all).

Then I saw the new specialization collections, and that beautiful, literally shiny new hammer skin that fit the engie theme perfectly and looks BIG on Asura (instead of dissapear like most hammers).

Fix-R-Upper seems like a mid point between a common ascended weapon and a precursor. Most of the 7 items on the collection are tied to the Scrapper completion, so it’s not something that will distract you so much if you are trying to get the sneak gyro soon, and only 1, the Inquest Servo, seems to be tied to RNG.

There isn’t even a wiki article on this hammer yet, so the opinion I have is mostly speculation, but I really think it is a good skin with a decent amount of difficulty to get it. It’s also one of the few good reasons I have right now to complete the Scrapper.

As today I have the Scrapper Hammer, the Mystic Battlehammer and the Dredge Lesson on Metalcraft. The other 4 will take a good amount of time and experience yet.

What do you opine? Do you like the skin? Do you think it’s too much grind? Do you know good ways to get the items? Do you know how common is the Inquest Servo drop?

Except: I was able to play Revenant and Reaper 3 times before HoT launch, and I could clearly see the progressive development in those. Since I was allowed to play Scrapper only 1 time, I couldn’t judge development in it. Now I would need to play weeks HOPING Scrapper is ok for me, BEFORE I actually can use it? At least allow people a couple more beta weekends for the less tested Elite Specs, so we can really make our choices before spending the points.

Power Grenadier the only viable PVE build?

in Engineer

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

You can make an argument for magnet on block bosses, but the rest, as I said, are DETRIMENTS

People complain all the time about how a Ranger messed everything up when he uses his longbow knockback. People are going to despise you just as well when you use BoB, Air Blast, and Rifle 4 to interrupt the boss instead of getting someone with an actual stun to do it.

Displacing a boss out of AoE is a terrible idea. Hard stuns will always be better as lifesaving CC then knockbacks. Never use knockbacks for hard CC unless its Mai Trin and you need to get her into the lightning circle.

theyre detrimental when youre bad. im not bad, so people dont complain when i use these things, cuz i dont use them badly. and yet i use them constantly — especially the blasts, because i maintain ~15 party might without sacrificing dps.

In fact, you can play CC very well without obstructing your party. Push and launch aren’t as braindead as daze or stun, but they aren’t hard either: you just need to be aware of what your allies are doing, and use the envirorment in your favor. Keeping enemies flat against the wall is a favorite of mine, very useful in the Vinewrath lanes, as is “guiding” astray mobs inside beautiful AoE circles.

CC needs you to be more alert than pure damage, but is much more fun.

No swap, thanks.

While the F-Gyro is practically a Non Value Spec Mechanic, weapon swap will be totally OP, and quite impossible to balance.

Also every proffession out there except Ele have weapon swap already, so it wouldn’t answer the aesthetic problem of the Scrapper lacking a clearly visible and exclusive Spec Mechanic.

Engineer Profession Icon
We’ve had some issues over the years with folks being able to tell the difference between the Engineer and Elementalist profession icons, in particular when they are shrunk down to smaller sizes for party UI. This became even more apparent when we began testing
our updated large squad UI. As a result, we’re going to be changing the engineer icon to better differentiate between the two. We’ve also done a bit of re-work to better differentiate the icons between Scrapper, Tempest, Engineer and Elementalist.

Source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Handful-of-HoT-Notes/first#post5624087

Mate, we have bugs not corrected, lack of synergy inside traits line, poorly designed elite spec around AI when we said a long time ago we did not want it, plus the worst ever elite core mechanic (function gyro), we give feedback to obtain improvement and there is still nothing. Post BWE3 Scrapper Changes

in Engineer

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

I have a few ideas which might make some of the currently less appealing gyros more useful in all combat modes. Some might be a bit crazy or op but still lets face it they do need improvement . The improvements I suggest are the kind that don’t change functionality and only tweak numbers. This should be possible to implement before the expansion is released. Here they are:

Function Gyro – I know people are saying that the profession mechanic’s use is limited but there are a few ways this can be improved without introducing new functionalities or animations. First reduce the cooldown of the mechanic to 0. That’s right 0 seconds. Second give this thing full on invulnerability buff for 10 seconds i.e its entire duration. Third remove the ability for scrapper to revive or finish off enemies without the gyro. This ensures that we are the only class to have a proper ranged finisher and it gives us a 0 cooldown ranged revival too. I know this has no counterplay in pvp but lets face it this thing already has a longer cast time than if players finished/revived. So it shouldnt have any counterplay.

Bulwark Gyro – Give this thing like 20-25k health. May seem a bit much but gyros have a time limit after all so that can be shortened a little bit for balance, like say, 10 seconds instead of 15 seconds.

Shredder Gyro – Unlike the other gyros this one doesn’t follow you around. It exists mostly as a whirl finisher that lasts for 12 seconds. Problem is whirl finishers aren’t all that great right now except for the cleansing and blinding bolts. Best way to make it more useful is to improve its damage from like 27 per second to like 150 per second. That would add an area denial functionality as well as the whirl finishers. The counterplay is obviously destroying the gyro from out of its range.

Blast gyro tag – Now this skill as it is fails all across the board. It fails as a utility skill because it moves extremely slowly. It fails as a damage skill because of the low damage. And the toolbelt skill is nothing compared to some others that engineer already has. And worst of all it can’t hit critically. Its probably too late for the toolbelt skill right now, however the gyro itself can be improved quite easily to have an “unique” functionality in all combat modes. Increase the damage of this skill to 20000 damage. Yes, 20000 damage for insta down on a lot of player builds and trash mobs. This gives the blast gyro an unique functionality that NO OTHER SKILL has. In exchange make this skill have an activation time of 3 seconds as opposed to what it has now (0.5 seconds). And increase the cooldown to 45 seconds. After the expansion releases maybe you can also add a tell to the skill animation so it can be easily identified. Another form of counterplay simply includes not being where the gyro was targeted when it hits. It does move slowly after all and it is ground targeted as opposed to having an attack target. Finally it can also be destroyed from range before it hits. For a skill with so many counterplays it is only fair that the damage be compensated to 20000 when it does hit.

Sneak Gyro – Improve the stealth duration from 4 seconds per pulse to 6 seconds per pulse. Makes it more viable to use and puts it somewhat on par with thieves’ Shadow Refuge. Albeit you having to wait 30 seconds for the gyro to go away first.

Now some of these ideas might seem to be overpowering the engineer/scrapper but lets face it the developer’s job first is to make their work appealing to the playerbase THEN balance it out after the player feedback. Right now as it is the scrapper isn’t appealing in anyway as an alternative to the specializations we already have. In fact it seems like we are being nerfed a lot if we take gyros as any utility skill in PvE without much to gain for it. So please post your feedback on these simple ideas that can be implemented without changing the skills in major ways.

This ideas are hilarious… AND I LIKE THEM. They are VERY interesting!

I can see someone being darted with the blast g marker and having to actually worry: “Oh No! Now I have to be full aware of the slow nuke… God this is the worst!” Make the blast gyro always appear at a distance from the target: More an area denial than a real damage dealer.
