I’m also left-handed, but the ‘irkness’ of playing a right handed character has slowly numbed over time… (except that one Legend of Zelda game….seriously!! Link is supposed to remain a lefty!!! -hisssss- )
Anyhow.
I’m not bothered too much by it, since my skillbar shows the mainhand weapon on the left side, and the offhand weapon on the right side. If you duel wield with the same weapon, you can…pretend there’s no difference.
I often wonder if right-handed players are bothered by this…
No. No no no no no no no no no no and no.
No.
Why? Because -
…Waaaaait. You’re the same guy who posted that earlier nerf thread!
Nevermind.
It’s fine now, we can all log in. But thanks for ruining our games for no reason anet >.<
But…it’s Anet’s game to begin with.
So…you wouldn’t have it in the first place to be ruined if Anet didn’t make it.
Got DCed as well – lucky for me, it happened right after a match finished.
Then please shed light on what your doing differently. A thief has many ways to reset the fight and remove conditions while stealthing. I usually find them running circles around me as im trying to catch them and if I miss that small window of opportunity of downing them before they restleath, im dead.
I’m prooobably gonna regret posting , but oh well.
As a thief, I don’t like fighting necros. For a light armor class, they have good sustain, and can drop plenty conditions.
Thieves reset the fight because they are getting pressured. That usually means they have spent all their escapes and need to pull away for a cooldown to finish. The main form of stuns and interrupts come from basilisk venom – keep an eye on the little green icon and if you dodge the attack, BV is spent and they can’t use it again right away.
Condi cleansing doesn’t only come from stealth – and it only applies if the thief is running point lines in SA. Shadowstep can also remove conditions. Their steal skill against necros is the fear skull, but you can watch the animation of when they rise it in the air, and you can dodge it.
CCing a thief in a well is pretty effective. Personally as a thief, if you go lich form, I’ll throw caution to the wind and make you focus on me instead of my team’s DPSer. Don’t get tricked into doing that. A thief can evade the attacks pretty effectively. I can easily disengage mid-fight to throw a quick spike or CC on someone else, then go back to focusing the biggest threat.
If you want to counter evades, you interrupt. Not immobilize.
And you can interrupt dodges, or you can force a person to waste dodges. Immobilize is a non-damaging condition like chill. It’s a soft control, compared to a daze or stun.
Zero! There’s another nerf to add:

:P You are allowed to add them too.
Though I will add it, thanks for linking it.Wow… started reading it, wonder who owned him so hard…
I’m too lazy at the moment to write up an eloquent nerf post. You have a knack for it.
arikyali, why did you 1v1 on home? dont you have better things to be doing kitten thief?
I don’t even remember. Forgot about that game already.

Yes, the leaderboards were reset. Meaning that since Friday you’ve lost 75% of the ranked games you’ve played. Period. There is no interpretation of that. That is a fact.
Are you still at this?
Why are you even checking my leaderboard ranking? I’ve already said: I went soloq, got a lot of uncoordinated teammates, and can’t carry. Your attitude and persistence just gives merit to that statement. You want a fact? I wouldn’t like you as a teammate and am more convinced than ever before that matchmaking could use a lot of work.
Now, can we all drop this drama and go back to clean competitive PvP?
I, actually, am the one that told you to uninstall.
Every match that I ran into with you, I saw your team lose. How do I know this isn’t just my confirmation bias? Because you currently have a 22.22% win rate; out of the 18 ranked games you’ve played to date, your teams have won exactly 4 of them.
The game that I played with you, the one you are referring to?
You used the thief downed skill to port away from me (you were in no danger) as I’m ressing you. AFTER you lost in a 1v1 on home point. I down the other player and leave you a free stomp and recap, then I resume rotating. Then you just… run off.And let’s put this in a time-frame here. It’s not a matter of us deciding to leave the point at the same time. You were alone on the point for a significant amount of time. You left a uncapped point with a downed player on it.
You thought I’d get the stomp, and then cap the point? If you’d had any sort of map awareness about you, you would have seen that I had moved far away from the point by the time you left.
Blaming bad MMR systems only goes so far; at a certain point, you have to look at the common denominator. You lose over 75% of the games you step into. Son, that’s not bad MMR, that’s a bad player. I don’t care what your little circle-kittenriends says in your hug-box, having you on a team makes it significantly more likely to lose.
Oh, jeez.
First, leaderboards were reset. That doesn’t reflect an actual win/loss ratio. I’ve been going soloq for the majority of matches.
Match start, I was the ONLY one who ran for mid. No communication from anyone. No idea what anyone else was thinking. Did anyone pay attention to buff timers? I don’t recall. I didn’t WANT to 1v1 at home, but since it was contested and no one else was there, well shoot. I guess I had to go. When that player was downed, I /checked/ and saw another green name left on the point – maybe you, maybe another teammate. Whoever it was, I expected them to recap and stomp. Why? I was more concerned on grabbing the buff before the opposition, or gank a contested point.
Anyway, I wanna be civil and not point fingers/single people out. It’s past, get over it. I’ve learned my lesson not to rely on soloq with randoms. gg wp

What? Word in the lobby was that the MMR was reset. Did I hear wrong?
I am becoming more and more discouraged to queue up now that the leaderboards have been fully reset. I just want to go back to my old place in the ranking >.<
I’m not a divine OP PvPer that can carry rookies to victory. I’m decent. I want teammates that can work together. I’m tired of people not understanding rotations, strategy, whining about ganking 2v1 (it’s 5v5, for crying out loud). Why is my personal MMR suffering, when I try my darn hardest and people just bicker?!
It’s discouraging. It’s futile. I give my all, to rise higher on the ladder. And then I’m tossed down into the abysmal pit.
I’ve met friendly PvPers before the reset, who’ve become great teammates. The people I’d get matched up with before, we would sync together so well. The fights were always fun; win or lose and it was still gg. Glad I can still rush to them for PvP.
Or you can charge them in 5 too XD?
Unless the map is foefire, there really shouldn’t have a problem against a 4 rangers team in ques. Probably is an issue of your team’s competency.
The map was Foefire.
Yep, gg.
Let’s make a deal. I’ll stop roaming with Shadow Arts….if every other roamer in WvW stops using condition builds. And celestial builds. And every other build that we consider ‘cheese’.
It’s…not gonna happen.
I’m a thief. I’m going to fight with the most underhanded tactics I got. If my opponent won’t fight honorably, why should I?
Truth be told, I used to not care much for rangers in PvP. If they’re doing lots of damage, that just meant they were just as glassy. Gap close, stun, break stuns, and kill.
That’s how I viewed them. Until I got into a match against four rangers.
Yeaaaaah….I think they could use just a liiiiittle bit of nerfing. To put it into perspective, they were zerging…and winning. Because anyone that tried to recap, just got sniped down to oblivion.
They said it was a stress test. Perhaps it is more focused on world content? Either way, cross fingers.
Doable maybe, but I don’t think Anet wants to handle the customer support issues that would flood in with players just wanting to see a Dhuum ban. XD
Well, as I am a lady instead of a gentleman, I would already be disqualified. -takes a sip of tea- However, I would like to submit an entree regardless, to keep in the spirit of the contest.

It’s refreshing to see class and self-respect to still be prominent among thieves. I’ve long since denounced the tacky accoutrements that’s become…popular – I shan’t speak of them. Efficiency, practicality, and quality – thus should be kept in mind when outfitting oneself. Even one’s actions will speak volumes. Congratulate a well fought match, and do not succumb to anger or resentment. Be polite, courteous, and well-respected. A steady mind keeps a steady blade. And above all, never let pride cloud one’s vision – that is where many have fallen.

I found out that in the original Guild Wars, the god of death, Dhuum, would slay gold bots and spammers to serve their ban.
This got me curious…
Does anything similar like this happen for Guild Wars 2? XD
A picture is worth a thousand words. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
That wasn’t the lord chest, in case you were wondering. As you can see, the lord’s chest is way back there within the zerg (mostly hidden behind the blacked-out names because reasons). That loot drop could have been an ascended box, or a precursor – or maybe just an exotic that couldn’t even net 1g. I will never know.
Why did I not respawn? Well, they closed off the gate so there was no chance of getting back in anyway. We were winning the fight, before they got reinforcements. Oh well.
(edited by Arikyali.5804)
I use a mix of soldier/berserker/assassin/cavalier for gear, with traits 20606. It’s more tanky and can survive other high-burst builds. I picked SA over Acro for WvW for the reliable condi cleansing from torment and confusion-induced perplexity runes. Acro is great, but pain response won’t always suffice. I’d rather CnD to condi-clear and take time study my opponent, instead of spend a stun breaker I’d need for their next burst.
Runes will depend on your playstyle. I love, love, love speed runes. It allows me to catch up and run away very quickly, and the swiftness uptime is quite useful.
In a chest from CM dungeon. I couldn’t believe it was actually a precursor.
Sooo, heads up to everyone that PvPs – the Treb in Kyhlo causes lag spikes now. Yep! Didn’t do this before.
It created lag right before it hits, so you’re frozen and can’t dodge. This happened to myself and two other teammates. One moment we were winning and about to cap mid – then treb hits and we freeze, and we’re all downed.
No, it’s not my graphics card, or my system. Everything was working well before the patch. And if this affected three of us, then I’m pretty sure we’re not the only ones.
Yeeeeep, avoiding Kyhlo for awhile.
Eh, I would advice against Thieves’ Guild. It has a very long cooldown, and at least in duels, can easily be waited out.
Certain items also won’t stack. It’s actually kinda funny to see stuff jumping around in your inventory as you spam ‘compact’.
Could be worse. At least nothing is getting deleted. Still, bleh.
Ugh, too many underboobs! Seriously, some of you missed the point of the thread. Lady thieves can look just as bad-kitten without flaunting the…you know.
I love the fact that my thief can actually look like an actual assassin. Powerful, confident, and deadly – with a hint of dainty grace. Just a hint. Am a woman and can have a toon that fights like an actual woman, yo.
I mean, look how awesome I look now. (Shadow-blue dye for the bloody win)
(edited by Arikyali.5804)
Warriors are by far the easiest class to pick up.
I’m wondering why everyone is saying thief is the easiest class to start out in….they have one of the highest learning curves.
Um, first…welcome back.
Second, if you have any transmutation stones left lying around, consume them for more transmutation charges.
Third, sorry to hear you lost your look with the new wardrobe. Your old skills should still be in the wardrobe – you didn’t lose anything, PvE and PvP skins were just combined together.
I….think people are missing the point. This is meant to only be for items that had selectable stats to begin with – mainly backpieces. This would not include weapons and armor, especially from drops.
Even if you don’t get the stat you want, it’s still a free 1g. Not a bad loot drop at all.
It’s funny how all these threads about the “toxic community” made me afraid to play solo. Then the circumstances forced me to play unranked solo, since I started to learn a new class and I was expecting to be bullied, insulted, shouted at and whatever.
Guess. Nothing like this. 2 weeks solo playing, most of the people are calm and friendly. No one has said anything bad, no one has ragequit even if we losing bad, nothing. Why did you scare me so much, people?
GW2 has a nicer pvp community than other games I’ve played. I’ve only really had to deal with one foul-mouthed trolly ragequitter. Went straight to my block list and was probably reported by everyone in the match. -shrug-
PvPers get a lot of bad rep, because we’re critical. I’ve noticed a very interesting trend – those that talk smack just for the sake of talking smack are usually not that good to begin with.
One needs to keep a leveled head, and if they let their temper tantrums get the better of themself, well…it’s not helping anyone.
Well, congratz to you. ^^
well this means Shadow Abyss is a must buy for all your 0,0,0 needs -_-.
Shadow Abyss is overrated. I got the Shadow blue and Shadow magenta. Those slight color tints are sweeeeet!
Um. You mean ranger? I’m gonna assume you mean ranger.
If you get stunned, stunbreak and avoid the burst. I…..don’t know what else to offer as advice.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have an item to change the stats of a piece of ascended equipment? Before you reply, hear me out and take time to read my main points.
1. Available in the gemstore – the gemstore exists as a luxery, and an item like this really doesn’t qualify as a necessity to be a non-gemstore item.
2. Place a limit of how many items can change stats, as well as how often. For example, if you change stats of your ascended backpiece, you cannot change stats for another piece of equipment for x amount of days, and you cannot change your backpiece stat for another say…two weeks.
3. This cannot be applied to equipment that previously have ‘locked’ stats – equipment that did not have a dropdown menu of stats to select from to begin with. Unless mistaken, this would currently only apply to backpieces, minus fractal backpieces (those are locked stats). This means weapons, armor, and trinkets will remain with their stats.
4. Something like this should be pricey – so a person would take time to weigh the pros and cons of purchasing this item, or simply taking the time to craft another ascended item with the stats they desire.
Suggestions, ideas? Yay or nay?
You can make your own emotes. Type /emote insert whatever you want here.
Black and White are generally the most wanted colors. And there is 400 dyes to choose from if you wanrt a colorful armor but there is 1 whitest and 1 blackest
(well light armor will retain the blackest (being Midnight Ice) as the new dye is not the blackest on light armor anyways.,)
It will matter ever so slightly on heavy armors, mostly in the highlights. but if you’re willing to shed out 151+ gold you could get one.
IF you want to buy any shade of black htese ones are definately more dark then the more common midnight range. And for some part way cheaper. (as it stands now)
Having one will NOT make you’ll not stand out in a crowd
But my pants!! I just can’t get them dyed properly!! I’ve tried everything!! But the colors look so off! So plain, so…bleh!!
I want the shadow dyes to change that!
It sucks for roamers as I always think I’m about to get ganked when I hear all these random shouts.
Oh my gosh…I know right?! I keep having to look over my shoulder every few seconds.
At least they can’t grind out titles.
Wait I can’t get on for a week so please answer me this question. Can we still chain infiltrators signet + steal for maximum range? like chaining shadow steps?
I…actually forgot to test that. But you can still use sword 2 > steal.
sigh awesome. Thank god, I thought they were going to remove that lol
It kinda just works a little bit wierd now. My theory is that the pathing for the shadowstep isn’t a straight line – it’s whatever is the viable path to the target within the range.
For example, during PvP I couldn’t shadowstep up a hill to get at a ranger – I had to go around halfway up the hill and then shadowstep. If I tried from below the cliff, it probably didn’t register.
Pvp map? Kyhlo with the treb you mean?
No, it was in a foefire map. It was one of the home points with a tree by a hill.
Ah I think I know where that is. You can still teleport from under the bridge on kyhlo right?
The one by the clocktower? Yes, you can. Same way as before.

I’m not gonna lie. I’m going to miss shadowstepping on top of the wall of the SW camps in WvW. But seeing how the new skill works, I think I can live with the loss.
…
I miss shadowstepping across gaps. Oh well.
You’d be one of the few. Most people have been complaining about terrible lag, or horrible FPS.
I personally haven’t experienced too much difference (good or bad) but I did notice my FPS was stronger than before, so that’s good. The only ‘skill lag’ I experienced was during a guild tequatl, but it seemed everyone had the issue.
Instead of raging and strangling each other at the throats, time and effort would be better spent in reporting the bugs, amirite?
Except the in-game bug report option is broken right now. Kappa
Oh, really? Um, well then, uh-.
I…have nothing to say to that. Ehem.
Ok. Let’s be critically honest. Majority of the time, Anet pulls through with good updates on a consistent basis. Broken stuff gets fixed pretty quickly. But this update….it’s a first. Jeez Anet, what happened? Did you accidentally upload the wrong file or something?
There were so many bugs, glitches, and exploits, it was unlike you guys. An update this buggy – it’s something I’d expect from one of those ‘pay-to-win’ cashshop MMOs.
From my perspective, this is the first update where something got royally screwed up. But since it’s the first and they’ve done so many good stuff beforehand…it’s not that bad. (Or is it? Hall of Monuments, people?) don’t get me wrong, the camera upgrade is awesome, and I’m liking the stability updates (Yes, I like them).
Besides, what is there to do? It’s done, it’s done. Move on. Hey, people are only human. Instead of raging and strangling each other at the throats, time and effort would be better spent in reporting the bugs, amirite?
In case you want the actual color values, look here:
Interesting to see that for light armor, midnight fire is already at (0,0,0), so it cannot get darker than that. For medium and heavy armor, there existed no such color before, but the new shadow colors provide that.
Abyss was never the darkest black for all armor types, by the way. Midnight Ice and Midnight Fire was. Look up the values in the color table.
Sweet, useful link.
It’s also safe to note that the shadow dyes would likely ignore patterns on equipment. So that might make Abyss still better in some sense?
Well, I’m beginning to get the hang of thief pvp..woot. Even got yelled at in a match that my ranking couldn’t possibly be the same as everyone else because I was doing too well…yay. (Although I blame the glitchy matchmaking system for that…)
Ehm. Anyway. Thanks to everyone for the tips. It’s tricky to transition from one class to another. now I got another question – any type of bunker, I can pretty much handle, except for bunker engies. I’ve 1v1 them in WvW and I can hold my own decently enough, but I simply cannot threaten them off a point, or spike them before their teammates arrive. Going after a bunker engie seems pointless, and I’d be better off focusing on the other two points.
Yay or nay? What’s the advice for a counter rotation against a bunker engie?
