So what I’m trying to say is, these classes don’t counter eachother (I always say that classes don’t counter eachother, only builds) and that it all boils down to how experienced the player is. Hate shouldn’t be directed at the class but more at how ‘bad’ you yourself are.

Can I quote this in reply to every thread that spawns loathing hate for the thief class?

Making Jumping puzzle alive again [SOLUTION]

Arikyali.5804

Well…why? I don’t see anything wrong with jumping puzzles as they are now.

Some puzzles, like the aetherblade, are so very difficult yet is one of the few places to get a reliable source or blade shards. I would agree that the reward is a bit lackluster, but the necessary ‘skill’ to complete a JP isn’t the same as doing speed clears for a dungeon.

I’ll give another hint. This area is very well hidden, but it does not require any special skills or items to get to. No jumps, no leaps over chasms, nada. All it requires is a very keen eye.

I generally “program” for tabletop RPGs, and a good doppleganger match can be fun, but in my experience the player knows their build better and the GM just flat out cheats to make up the difference .

But really do you actually want a fight that comes down to a coin toss because the opposition is exactly equivalent?

No, I would rather just do PvP if such was the case.

I just wanted a doppleganger fight that was more… intense than the one in Arcana Obscura. See a mob that uses the exact same skills as myself. I was a little disappointed that my copy didn’t do anything but auto attack. It was still a neat concept, I just wanted a bit more challenge out of that fight.

Arikyali.5804

Technically I would be posting this in a ‘suggestion’ forum, but that doesn’t exist anymore. So I guess I post it here!

Anet. I wanna fight a doppelganger. A real one. Similar to my character in every single way. Not some shadowy construct like the one from Arcana Obscura. That was cool, but not cool enough. I want a truly epic fight against a version of myself. An enemy that is very devastating and uses the exact same skills, traits, and weapons as me. (Me? I? Grammar lovers, which is it; me or I?)

If I’m a mesmer, I want it to summon clones. If I’m a thief, I want it stealthing away to laugh in my face. If I’m an ele, I wanna dodge out of the way from a barrage of meteors. Heck, maybe it even swaps the same elements. Or better yet, mimicks every kitten freaking move! Every dodge, every attack, every thing.

…Actually, that probably won’t work well. Just make it really annoying to kill.

I only have the most vague idea of how insanely difficult that would be to code. and I assume it would be a daunting task. But if it even gains a little bit of merit, that would be really awesome. Wouldn’t you agree?

Seriously commander tag needs to be cheaper

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

Commander tag is a sacrifice on the commander alone. And it takes a great deal of tactical know-how, confidence, tough skin, and patience, to be a decent commander, in both WvW and PvE. It shouldn’t be easy to get.

For now, if you have the want, dedication, commitment, and know-how to get 300 gold for a tag, then I it’s justified to make it that expensive. It’d be better if there was another method, but I can’t think of one.

…And any arguments for ‘more command tags to enable EOTM karma train’ is an awful reason. EOTM is a blight of existence in WvW. It’s not even WvW anymore, it’s just PvE champ farm with the possibility of collecting lootbag by sitting behind an AC. I hope that place gets obliterated and patched out, or at least the rewards heavily nerfed. Karma trained ruined everything about it.

Mesmers hate thieves. It’s justified hate, it’s understandable hate, but it’s uneducated hate. I play both mesmer and thief, and I’ve see how they interact and counter each other. But if I try to defend a thief from mesmer, I know it’ll fall on deaf ears.

What counters a mesmer? Nothing but thief. What counters a thief? Everything but mesmer.

I…I don’t know. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the wings, but too many won’t look very GW2-ish. Only after I found out the original GW Raiment of the Lich were included with wings, it fits in.

These black wings and a white version would be plenty enough. Overly glitterfying it and upscaling the size is going to make it look gaudy and awful. If they add demon wings, oversized angel wings, or sci-fi robotic wings, I’m gonna start questioning where the heck a flock of succumbi, non-dwayna archangels and fantasy synthetic soldiers are doing in DR.

New Player Needs Some Direction

Arikyali.5804

Hi guys, I’m quite new to Guild Wars 2 as I bought the game about a week ago. Managed to get my ranger to 80 even though I’m just a casual player(on vacation now). Now the problem is that I’m quite lost to actually where to go.
1) Roam around explore new map areas and events
2) Crafting – Gathering the materials seems like a pain in the kitten
3) Dungeons – Which I looked through the forums rangers are not quite accepted
4) Look for a Guild which will willing help guide newbies like me
5) PvP or WvW – Don’t think I’ll start those anytime soon.
6) I don’t know what else already.

So for all you veterans out there, what’s it like when you started the game? Please please guide me((

Got to level 80 in one week? You missed out on too much. It may be my style of play, and I won’t bother others for it, but I really would have suggested taking the leveling on your first toon slow and steady. The game is two parts, getting to 80, and all the stuff you can do at 80. It shouldn’t be a speed grind.

Go take the bartle gamer test and see where you fit in. What’s nice about GW2 is you can do whatever the heck you want, and not be pressured into a specific grind.

1. Always good imo, if you like to explore.
2. If you map complete this won’t be an issue (just takes super long). I remember in my rookie days, having easy access to mats after exploring enough maps.
3. Rangers can be good in dungeons – most people don’t like them because too many do not know how to properly play them. although to get into the decent speed runs, you’ll need good gear to start off in.
4. Don’t know any good guilds I can recommend.
5. Alright.
6. Dungeons, fractals, wvw, pvp, open world content – that pretty much sums it up. Although open world can break down to other stuff, like Silverwaste farm, Tequatl, or world boss train. Just find what you like to do and…go do it.

EDIT: Unless you plan to get ascended equipment for high level fractals, you don’t need to craft if you don’t want to. Just buy what you need. Otherwise, I would suggest leatherworker and huntsman for ranger.

I know why!!

PvP are usually composed of players who finished PvE content and got bored of everything else. So they got a lot of money to spend on looks.

PvE players are the ones that get the most money because dungeons = gold.

WvW players either don’t follow the zerg/blob so they don’t get loot to look good, or they don’t want to be picked out and focused down by the enemy.

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

We don’t need a holy trinity here. It’s not how the game was set up, and I really don’t want it to be established. Our soft trinity of dps, damage mitigation, and boon support, is good enough.

The last thing I want is to wait and be bored because we can’t find the guard/ele/mesmer to run reflects.

And zerker is not the solid answer. Casual/open world pve, ANYTHING works. Run around in blues and greens, and it’s fine. The reason zerker became so popular is because players got good at mitigating damage.

Hey, to anyone thinking I was only showing things in a negative light, no. I did not introduce him to GW2. I had no influence on what he first perceived. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, and I am not a blind fan. Whatever criticism I established is because I love this game, and do not want to see it become ‘grindy’, nor do I want it to be seen as such by newcomers. My friend saw GW2 as a grindfest with no endgame – that shouldn’t be his first impression.

They did butcher the story, (It’s missing chapters and out of order, for cryin’ out loud), people do dislike the grindy traits, EOTM went from amazing new WvW map with lots of potential, to PvE land karma farm.

I do not disagree: brand new players who never saw an MMO before have no idea what to do. The NPE does an important job of introducing that. But it’s incomplete. It neglects people who know what an MMO is. I don’t know what the statistic of ‘gamer to newbies’ is in GW2. Maybe it’s such a small minority it doesn’t matter. But I don’t think anyone else here but Anet would have an idea.

But NPE shouldn’t be reminiscent of grinding, in a game that is not meant to be grindy. It doesn’t explain the core elements that the vets already know about this game. From gamers that came from elsewhere, NPE is grindy. They see hearts as quests. EOTM is powerleveling. The story and lore are pushed aside and clumped together in haphazard chunks. Only fun stuff is at 80.

World events and living story =/= end game raids, even if both follow the same basic idea of a community of people working together over TS to accomplish a common goal with unique understanding of combat mechanics.

End Game
What the vets know
End game is…getting the freedom to do whatever you want. World events like Triple Trouble and Tequatl are the closest we got to raids in that other game. Best part, you’re not obligated to play a specific role, or grind out this event for that specific drop. There’s a lot of other choices to get the gear you want. Sometimes, gear is not even that important – game mechanics matter more than fancy gear.

What the newcomers know
There’s no end game. This other game has advanced mechanics that require more than stack in one spot and press a bunch of keys.

Traits
What the vets know
The new system sucks. But at least I’m rich enough to buy my way out of it.

What the newcomers know
The new system sucks. But I’m not rich enough to buy my way out of it. It’s just more grinding.

(Yeah, sorry. You muddled up this one)

Skillfulness
What the vets know
You got 5 weapon skills, one heal skill, three utility, one elite. BUT, it expands much farther than that. Each skill can have a different cause and effect. Fields and finisher mechanics are a must-know. When to apply boons and condis. When to heal your party. How each class compliments and assists the group, with a ‘soft trinity’ of DPS, support, and damage mitigation. Knowledge of effective gameplay only comes from experience – there is no guide that encompasses every trait, trick, and tip of said class.

What the newcomers know
There’s no trinity, healers aren’t important since everyone can heal. Tanks are useless since they don’t do enough damage. You’re either damage, damage, damage, or trash. Boring. And I can’t use every skill I have.

Devs, you totally missed the chance to showcase your hard work! My friend did mention that one good point GW2 has over other games, is that this was a lot more beautiful. The graphics are stunning, hands down. But the actual mechanics are being overlooked and missed. They are looking at this game through the frames welded by other games, and they don’t see what GW2 has. I really have no advice on how you can take those glasses away.

You gotta think of something, and the NPE didn’t help. All it’s done, is make this game look more grindy. It looks less appealing. And it gives no incentive, no reward, to keep trudging on, jumping from one map completion to the next, to get to 80 for a game with no end content. Or to jump in EOTM and follow a dorito for fast levels, then pop out and not know a single important game mechanic of your class.

Please, change the NPE. It was a good idea, but not that great of an implementation.

(I’ve attached a short discussion of what my friend and I talked about. Red is me, green is my friend.)

Disclaimer: This is just from one incident, and one person’s perspective. What I’m going to say, is probably not the same for every newcomer of GW2. But I think it deserves enough merit to wave this around and say, “Hey, Anet. Look over here.” And above all, I’m not an expert on video game statistics.

I’ll do my best to keep this short and sweet, yet informative.

Let me ask: What is NPE actually supposed to accomplish? Teach newcomers how GW2 is played? Help them learn the mechanics to enjoy the game? Add in rewards and incentive to level to 80? Remove confusing elements so non-gamers are not frustrated?

A friend of mine who played “this other game” Has no incentive to even try GW2 out. He was pretty much a new player, and saw GW2 as grindy, only fun at max level, but no real end-game content. And honestly, as a vet gamer of GW2, it is not my duty to sit down and try and explain what GW2 is. That is the job of the NPE.

Play How You Want
What the vets know
There’s PvP, dungeons, world events, WvW, living story, map exploration, collectables, fractals, guild missions, crafting, TP flipping – plenty choices on what you want to do to kick back and relax. You can go with hardcore elite lvl 50 fractal runs, or be lazy on the world boss train.

What the newcomers know
When I get to level 80, there’s no guild raids, there’s no GvG, ascended stats gear is useless, legendary are just for show.

Guild Wars 2 is not grindy
What the vets know
-Leveling can come from EOTM (bleh. Please, revamp that place), Tomes from pvp or living world. Leveling shouldn’t matter and you should just run out and experience the world of Tyria for what it has to offer. You can join dungeons and learn them. And the personal story (used to) be very helpful in gaining a little bit of exp.

What the newcomers know
No one wants a non 80 in a dungeon. Hearts are converted to quests. Map completion is only effective with going from point A, to point B, to point C. Personal story is just a sidequest.

Levels shouldn’t matter
What the vets know
Well, we want the 80s or your best toon, because what we’re doing matters. We don’t want to carry someone who’s putting in as little effort as possible, and just sits back for the ride. But hey, if we’re in a big group a few underlevels is fine. Just come out and do your best.

What the newcomers know
No one wants me.

There’s still some social bugs to work out, and there’s always bad apples showing up to try and make life unpleasant, but on the whole, ArenaNet provides a safe, welcoming environment.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cost and available supply. Golems are made of stone, and siege are made of wood. I’m going to assume those come in abundance in the WvW maps, while metal and fuel to forge metal, are not.

Think about it: the only place that have ‘mines’ are the dredge in EB, and they are not always on friendly terms with players. But when they are, then they got their turrets popping up.

IT would be a lot cheaper, faster, and efficient to use supplies that are readily available in WvW, than to ship it over via Asura gates.

Or the control used against certain mobs such as reflects, stuns and immobilize.

Seeing how a glass cannon will go down in 2-3 hits if the damage isn’t mitigated in some way?

Eh, not entirely. It’s more of a ‘soft trinity’ or ‘5 trait line’ build. you got DPS and support, and support is done in a myriad of ways.

Eles can heal, guardians stack might, mesmers crowd control, thieves blind, etc. Each class DPS and supports their own way. Yeah, the main goal is to ‘max out dps’ but don’t all games do that with the trinity anyway? You can’t DPS anything if you don’t have a healer or tank. In GW2, you can’t DPS anything if all you got is damage. IF a guard scoffs the idea of running reflects because it somehow means he does less damage, he’s out of the party.

I like the new system. I don’t need to complete dailies for laurels, and the dailies are purely for AP. I only need to do three instead of five, they don’t take long, and I get a little reward box for each I complete? Sweet. Sure, a little more variety is nice, (maybe make it more flexible and general – kill x amount of enemies instead of one specific champ) but this is good enough for me.

Oh, I misread it as, the chest bugged and was already opened despite not having opened the chest prior. But as everyone said, do it on a different toon.
