Gallant Greatsword...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

…is too long. And it genuinely upsets me, cause it’s one of the few great-looking weapons from the set, perfect for either of my Human “nobles”. It looks unwieldy on my warrior, never mind my mesmer who looks like he’s not strong enough to even carry that thing. I don’t like it even on my Norn guardian, cause the length makes it clip through even slightly uneven ground when the char is standing with the sword drawn.

And yeah, I get it, more than half of greatsword and (especially) hammer designs look totally unnatural and impossible to even pick up, never mind fight with. I don’t mind those outlandish designs in general, I know many people like them and some of them look cool… But this one otherwise looks more or less realistic, and that’s what’s so upsetting about it for me.

If we’re talking about characters we’re fond of creatively (and not necessarily the “hawtest looking”), it has to be my asura ranger. I love and hate this exclusive face version at the same time, because the eyes are absolutely amazing, and exactly what I wanted for this character (he really does look like some sort of swamp-dweller, almost half-hylek, lol), but the rest of the face is just too… weak and lame. Good thing medium armor has all sorts of masks, so I went from some plain masks from basic sets to Krytan Bandana, and then found out about the Air Filtration Mask skin, and thought it was just perfect for a swamp-exploring character.

Concur, please remove the account bound to these items. Once you find one of each you are left with items that are worth less than trash loot. Or allow us to sell them to a vendor for 5 gold or so.

5 gold is hilariously high for an autosell, you can’t be serious. Especially considering that they drop rather often from BLCs.

Allowing us to MF them is the best option imo.

And… that’s it. My guardian is getting a buff, my condi ranger is getting a HUGE buff, my engineer is pretty much in the same position as it was (but with extra traits to pick it’s still a small buff)… yeah, only my thief will suffer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve already filled that slot with a Norn necro that’s going to become a very nice Reaper come HoT.

If anything, I never have enough slots. I tend to have too many ideas, both gameplay and RP-oriented, and then if something doesn’t work out and I lose interest, I usually can’t bring myself to delete the character.

And you know what? No problems whatsoever so far. Of course they do have their long-established storylines and interactions that I still don’t know much about and don’t really fit into, but that’s inevitable. I try not to get in their way and not to hog attention all the time, I listen and absorb information, slowly learn about their characters and stories, and we get on just fine.

But I guess I will lose Glacial Heart now that it’s been moved to Virtues. Pity.

My death-dealing sylvari thief in his (almost) monochrome glory.

Head: Krytan Bandana (I am in love with this skin, and all my medium armor characters end up wearing it, with the exception of charr).
Shoulders: None. I haven’t found a single one that works better than having none at all.
Chest: Council Watch Chestguard. One of the very few “dusters” that make the character look more agile and slight. It’s too bad that the chest has a blue-ish effect that cannot be changed. If it was silver, this would be perfect.
Gloves: Krytan Armguards. Possibly subject to change, they look just a bit too cumbersome. I still like the whole Krytan set, so I dunno. I might keep it.
Legs: Krytan Leggings. They have a funny clipping interaction with the chestguard, in that the skull on the back side of the belt clips through the back of the chest piece. The clipping is consistent though, so the skull doesn’t go in and out of sight when the character moves. I just found it hilarious and decided to keep it.
Boots: Prowler Boots. Possibly subject to change.
Weapons: Pact Handguns. They look cool when wielded (although once again, a white glow instead of blue would’ve been better), but like most pistols, they clip through hands horribly when sheathed. Come on Anet, fix it! :P

Dyes: Abyss, Graphite. Sometimes I also add Dust when the mood strikes me.

Playing a P/P Thief made me a bad person

With ricochet, don’t you kill bystanders all the time anyway?

Yeah, but that’s something I can’t avoid. Actively killing neutrals because it’s so incredibly easy and satisfying is another matter.

Let’s say I’m running my main, a Hammer / Scepter-Focus Guardian, and see two or three moas in front of me, hanging out. I’m not tempted to kill them, cause I’m using the hammer for 90% of the time, so I have to actively run up to melee range and attack them, plus my precision is relatively low, so that might take up the whole chain; and yes, I could switch to scepter, but I don’t really want to go out of my way for this. Also, my swiftness might run out and both shouts are probably on cooldown, and I have places to go and things to do.

With the P/P thief, however, I literally have to press 3 once and I immediately get an immensely satisfying sound effect, both sigils usually proc because the critical chance is up the wazoo, Ricochet usually activates… BAM, a bunch of dead moas. I don’t even have to stop or slow down.

I used to avoid hurting “neutral” and ambient creatures whenever possible. I even used to get annoyed by people running around killing them (especially Mosshearts) while waiting for a WB to spawn or just for the heck of it. I even avoided killing Dredge Excavators unless they attacked me first, even though killing them would make completion of certain renown hearts quicker.

Then I made a power P/P thief that can off anything below champion rank in seconds… and it changed me. With the sheer power of Unload available to me, and with the fear of cooldown all but gone, I now mow down everything. Moas, crabs, boars, fireflies… and yes, even noble mosshearts – I fill ‘em with lead and don’t look back. It’s just so, so easy. And I like it. I love it. What have I become?!

Rabid/Sinister work great in Silverwastes, by the way. Many of the enemies are weak to conditions. Use Poison Master and SW/T to get your poison and Fire ticks in there.

Yeah, s/t is my second set. Quick Serpent’s Strike, then immobilize with Entangle, then Bonfire and disengage from melee. Not sure how efficient this is, but immensely satisfying.

Thank you for your feedback, it’s appreciated.

I was thinking of sinister, and I could easily pull it off on the account of not actually getting into melee all that much… BUT the inscription/insignia recipes are account bound, and Silverwastes bore me to tears. The idea of farming for 800 crests… ugh. Maybe someday.

Also, I can’t get Aristocracy runes because I don’t do dungeons. Guess I’ll try Krait then.

Thanks again!

Ariurotl.3718

A little disclaimer: All I’m planning to do with this char is overland PvE. No PvP, WvW or dungeons. Probably. I just want to get everyone’s opinion on rune sets so I suck a bit less.

Anyway, I really can’t decide which runes to use here. My options are:

Afflicted: Adds duration to both primary conditions (bleed and poison), but the 6 effect looks… dreadful.
Undead: 6 effect should be very useful, since I’m wearing Rabid from head to toe, but no duration bonus means my bleeds will not stack all that much.
Krait: Longer bleeds are good, and the 6 effect will be useful as I run Entangle with its relatively quick recharge, but no support for poison.
Orr and Nightmare: Not worth the consideration. I can’t really get them as I don’t do dungeons, and while I do dump extra runes from salvaging into the MF, I only managed to get one Nightmare rune so far.
Other runes look even less useful to me.

I’m leaning towards Undead, any insight? TIA.

Blood Legion Homelands look suspiciously green, and every time I see that part of the map, I imagine some sort of endless idyllic grasslands where Blood Legion charr just frolic around with flowers in their manes and generally act out of tough charr character, cause nobody is there to see them.

But if they see you there, they’ll kill you out of sheer embarrassment.

- My main is a hammer guardian, cause my reaction times are horrible and that’s the only build that usually doesn’t require split-second decisions on my part, while also giving me opportunity to be at least marginally useful to others. 1, 2 and 3 are practically the only weapon skills I use, and the slow autoattack chain gives me that 2-3 seconds I need to locate a shout or the healing skill on the skill bar.
- ^ I also can’t use AoE. Well, I can, but it takes so much time that I avoid using weapons having AoE skills whenever possible.
- ^ Consequently, my dream feature in GW2 is “automatic AoE on target”.
- My hobby is arriving a bit late to Teq (which guarantees getting on a sparsely populated map) and watching people fail it from a safe distance.
- My biggest annoyance is finding just the perfect dye for my char, and then realizing it costs >200g on the TP (looking at you, Vincent!)

I guess that’s enough for one go.

Mabon Market event: Please tweak it

All it needs is a smaller number of experiments to catch, really. It seems to me that they used the same numbers as regular item gathering events, where they’re either lying around the area or at least you can take several of them from mobs before returning to the NPC. In this case, you have to fetch them one by one, and I suspect they didn’t factor that.

Mabon Market event: Please tweak it

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

Okay, so it’s not a major problem, just an annoyance twinned with inconvenience. Mabon Market is a crafting hub, and the F.O.O.L. event locks down the crafting stations. Which would’ve been fair enough if it wasn’t so incredibly drawn out. Please tweak the required number of escaped experiments so we can craft in peace without wasting up to 15-20 minutes chasing down those F.O.O.L.s!

And yes, I know, you can always teleport somewhere else and continue there (but you have to say goodbye to the Black Lion Trader you’ve summoned), but that doesn’t change the fact that this event is ridiculously grindy right now. It is also the first crafting station many Sylvari newbies encounter in the game (unless they double back to the grove from the very beginning, but the way the game is presented to newbies via the event/exploration compass, you’re encouraged to explore Caledon first), and it’s so easy for them to miss it altogether because of the never-ending F.O.O.L. event.

No. You’ll be able to pick three trait lines (or specialization lines), or you can sacrifice one of those lines for an “Elite” line. You don’t have to pick an elite line if you don’t want it, it won’t be an apparent disadvantage cause you get a basic trait line instead.

From the viewpoint of my main, a Hammer Guardian spending most of the time in overland PVE:

Warriors: Brothers in arms. We often shout at each other, but somehow it helps us work together.

Thieves: They whirl around for a while, then I pick them off the floor to whirl around some more.

Necromancers: They rarely ever need any help, they heal themselves faster than I do.

Rangers: Arrows whizzing from somewhere far away. I’m much better acquainted with their zoos. What would those animals do without me?

Engineers: Bullets whizzing from somewhere far away.

Mesmers: Purple bolts whizzwhizzwhizzing from somewhere far away.

Elementalists: Fireballs whizzing from somewhere far away. Unless they use daggers, in which case they steamroll over everything and make me feel useless.

P.S. Don’t take this seriously, just poking fun.

Did you know that giant insects have existed on Earth? The size they are in game is kind of possible.

Yes, they have. Specifically, giant dragonflies, which most likely glided more than they flew (just like modern large birds such as albatrosses and condors). Their wingspan was what, about 70 cm? They weren’t nearly as big as the mosquitoes and dragonflies in-game, and most likely were extremely squishy, too.

Arthropleura is also frequently cited for shock value, on the account of it being longer than your average human. But there’s a reason it was herbivorous, most likely because this size combined with a chitin carapace would make it very slow and not much of a danger.

Of course, it’s a whole different ball game with sea fauna, where the real monstrous life forms thrive.

Saying “it’s magic” is not a cop-out, not in fantasy RPGs where pretty much everything works differently from real life.

Dragons aren’t supposed to fly? Well, giant crabs, spiders and scorp… err… devourers aren’t scientifically possible either, because the ratio of exoskeleton mass to muscle power renders any such creature over a certain size extremely fragile. Same goes for giant mosquitoes.

90% of skills characters have are impossible in real life, 90% of fantastic creatures inhabiting Tyria are impossible in real life… “it’s magic” is not a cop-out, it’s the foundation.

Just for fun I made a condi warrior with pretty much everything geared towards stacking and prolonging bleeding. I don’t care all that much about maximum efficiency, to be honest, but I still like to know that what I’m doing actually works as intended and I’m not just wasting some of the gear/traits.

Keeping that in mind, I was surprised to see that the tooltip under “condition duration” on the attributes page states “Bleeding: 100%”, when in reality it should be more. Here’s everything I have that prolongs bleeding, so please tell me what I’m missing.

- Two traits in the Strength tree: +10% general condition duration.
- Deep Cuts: +50%
- Superior Sigil of Agony: +20%
- Full set of Superior Runes of the Krait: +10% / +15% / +20% for the overall +45%
Total: +125% or +115% if you don’t count general CD.

What’s going on here?
