Can’t say I’m happy with FMW nerf, cause I main a (completely non-meta in any way) Shout Guard… but I’ll be totally fine with it if they make this skill instant-cast and castable during other actions already.

Pretty please?

Definitely playing:

1. Reaper (leveling a fresh Norn necro just for that purpose)

Possibly trying out:

2. Herald (Not sure how I feel about the class in general, so we’ll see)
3. Chronomancer (The concept sounds fun, but I’m terrible at mesmer)
4. Berserker (Just sounds interesting, concept-wise)
5. Druid (But only on a new char, my current ranger doesn’t really look all that… altruistic)
6. Scrapper (Not sure what it really brings to the class, but I’ll get bored of other specs eventually)
7. Daredevil (Will opt in just to see whether it’s worth dropping S/P for. Or if they fix P/P, I’m a dreamer)

Not touching with a 10-foot pole:

8. Dragonhunter (I have three, THREE different guardians, but this spec just doesn’t seem worth sacrificing a core trait line. Plus, I have no complaints about scepter other than the ugly repetitive AA animation)
9. Tempest (Nothing to do with the community complaints, I just don’t do Elementalist for L2P reasons. Can’t click the buttons fast enough).

Flavor-wise, in my opinion:

Charr: Engineer (Warrior as secondary)
Sylvari: Ranger (Guardian as secondary)
Human: Mesmer (Necromancer as secondary)
Asura: Elementalist (Engineer as secondary)
Norn: Warrior (Guardian as secondary… or maybe Ranger, they do love their hunts)

Thief and Revenant are for everyone equally.

Guardian is easy. Or at least, it is for me. I have a much easier time playing a Guard than a Ranger or even Warrior.

Elementalist is the hardest class for me to play, hands down. The last time I tried to level one, I got a nasty case of carpal tunnel and still wasn’t very good.

Did this chapter yesterday, and the sound of waves crashing against the shore at the beginning was horribly clipped. I’m not sure if it happens anywhere else, but I haven’t noticed it while running around the same non-instanced area (and the clipping is so grating, I’m sure I’d have noticed it).

I haven’t done the new one in LA, and Not So Secret was pretty difficult (I never bothered to do it again for the goggles), but the puzzle I had most trouble with was… Spekks’s Laboratory. Because I can jump pretty well, but I can’t jump quickly at all. If there wasn’t another person or two doing it at the same time, and if there wasn’t a ledge in the middle of one of the “segments”, I would never have done it.

Are there any Dye with Special effects?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

Yes, it depends mostly on material. But the “shiny” effect is more noticeable when applying metallic dyes to metal armor, and natural leather dyes sometimes give leather parts of the armor a more pronounced texture.

Other than that, there aren’t any effects of note.

What happens if you increase/decrease the head size or the height in the TMK? (Just curious if the issue shows up on all sizes or is specifically caused by something).

I am pretty sure the bug persists. Sadly, I can’t test it right now because I’m all out of TMKs.

What I do know (and forgot to mention) is that the bug remains upon consuming the TMK. In other words, it doesn’t realign facial hair with the face after accepting changes.

Exclusive Norn faces and facial hair

Ariurotl.3718

All exclusive Norn faces from the TMK appear to be a bit… further back on the model than facial hair, which causes mustaches to float in front of the face. Most noticeable on the facial hair variant with a soul patch that just floats in front of the face when looking in profile.

Considering that TMK is a gem store item that many people actually pay real money for, this really should be fixed.

BL weapon sets are Human-biased!

Ariurotl.3718

Have you looked at the Gallant set closely? The hilt on the Sword and GS have an Eagle on them. They actually seem rather Norn-like to me personally.

Possibly, and like I said, some weapons (GS and Hammer, mostly) look better on a Norn than on a Human… but the designs are too different from the regular Norn fare. Look at the Wolfborn, Norn and Shiverpeaks sets. The designs are fundamentally different.

To be fair though, Norn and Charr have three unique cultural sets, unlike Asura and Sylvari who share theirs.

BL weapon sets are Human-biased!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

(The title is a bit tongue-in-cheek, don’t dwell on it too much)

- The current set is Dwayna’s, obviously Human-focused.
- The set before that was Gallant. Putting aside the fact it’s rather plain, the design seems to be Human. Ironically, two-handed weapons from that set are a bit oversized, and look better on Norn, but overall they look Human-made.
- The set before that was Daydreamer’s. It looks rather neutral, but probably most suited for Sylvari and… well, Humans. Can’t imagine many Norn or Charr wielding those.
- Before that we had the Scientific set, which looks mostly Charr, possibly Asura.
- And before that was Balthazar’s, of course. Human again.

That makes it 3 out of 5 latest sets either themed around Human gods or appearing to be of Human make. The other two are more or less suited for Charr and Sylvari (and maaaaybe Asura). Nothing of note for Norn, except for possibly the Gallant set. Bias confirmed!

Seriously though, I’d like more Asura-themed and Norn-themed weapons. At this rate, we’ll cycle through all Human gods in a few months. Let’s have skins themed around one of the Spirits of the Wild, at least. Or one of the Asura colleges. Hmm?

The OP has picked one of the smallest greatswords in GW2 (same basic model as Cobalt) to illustrate the point, which is rather unfair.

Overall I’ll echo the insofar prevailing opinion in the comments: I don’t particularly want larger weapons in GW2. There is, however, a number of outlandish fantasy-ish GS skins in the game that are not far from what the OP seems to like. Just browse galleries on the wiki.

Ariurotl.3718

I’m mildly annoyed by the fact that all those weapon and armor skins modeled after gear wielded by important (and not very important) NPCs have the names of those NPCs attached to the final item.

I mean, I crafted this rapier and I didn’t see Lord Faren helping. I procured the expensive materials, and even though Faren is probably loaded, he didn’t contribute a single copper. I trained for weeks and months to be good enough to make it. Bet Faren doesn’t know the first thing about weaponsmithing. I spent my own transmutation charge!.. And yet my weapon is still called “Lord Faren’s Rapier”.

Oh sure, maybe he patented the design. Though it’s more likely that was also someone else’s design that he paid for. Well, he can’t have it. And I’m not giving Belinda my greatsword either!.. umm… no innuendo intended.

By far my favourite character is Rytlock, and I like him 5x more just because of his ‘you cant trust sylvari, they belong to the dragon now’ line.

I genuinely don’t get how this line made you like him more. It is a) a sweeping generalization (you could even say “borderline racist”, but it’s kinda silly to go there when we’re talking about pure fantasy fiction), and b) definitely untrue, unless ArenaNet forces all sylvari players to be buddies with the Mordrem in HoT, and that’s extremely unlikely.

If any weapon needs to be used by more classes it is the rifle. About the only class that uses it is the engineer because on the warrior the longbow is better.

Short bow needs some love too. Rangers tend to dismiss it in favor of LB POWAH, and I’ve only ever seen Thieves use it as a speed boost…

Unfortunate skill/trait names

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

I can think of two traits off the top of my head that are in dire need of renaming.

A particularly groan-inducing one is, of course, Elementalist’s Burning Fire. You know, the fire that burns. As opposed to… wait a minute.

Then there’s Guardian’s Zealot’s Speed that somehow survived for so long without being renamed to… well, literally anything else. The trait has got nothing to do with speed, and it hasn’t for a very long time.

Then there’s Warrior’s rifle skill Aimed Shot that is… shot from the hip. It’s literally the only Warrior’s rifle skill (well, with the obvious exception of Rifle Butt) in which the character does not actually aim. Call it “Reckless Shot” or “Crippling Shot” (on second thought, that already exists) or anything else, but right now it’s just silly.

What about them beards?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

Male human faces are extremely disappointing in general. 90% of them look very young and handsome in a JRPG protagonist sort of way, and the rest are seriously ugly. I think there’s only one male human face I actually liked, and it’s a makeover kit exclusive.

The aforementioned 90% don’t look like they can grow a decent beard anyway. As for the rest, they need as much facial hair as possible to hide all the ugly.

Seriously though, more options are always welcome.

On-crit voice lines: Bugged?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

I am growing more and more convinced that “on-crit” voice lines (such as human male’s “Here’s one to remember me by”) are triggered when a mob hits a crit on me, not vice versa. I seem to hear them every time they take a chunk of my health.

I have no proof whatsoever, it just feels like it works that way, although lines themselves, like the one above, suggest the opposite.

Am I dreaming this or are they bugged?

Targeting: Auto, Ground, Self

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ariurotl.3718

Ariurotl.3718

Automatic AoE on target is the one thing I want most in this game. Admittedly, I’m just not fast enough for quick AoE skill use. I openly admit that. I’m not good enough to use the AoE system to full effect in battle situation, cause it takes me too long to use any of the currently available modes effectively.

So I have to use weapons and skills that don’t rely on AoE. I can’t play staff ele or staff necro, and I’m definitely not playing Dragonhunter in HoT.
