Bring back The Festival of the Four Winds!

in Living World

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Go back and read my entire post, not just the first sentence. It is my understanding that the festival of four winds took place on a specific map – Cliffside. If that is correct, then each map being “stuck” in time means that the Festival of Four Winds could be brought back with the Cliffside map and exist in-game SIMULTANEOUSLY with the crashed Zepharites in Dry Top.

Sorry, my bad, you are right of course.

I wouldn’t even mind if they didn’t want to bring it back still for some Zephyrite-related reason (even when your argument suggests that there was no reason for it). They could come up with something similar instead. In any case, what many people have already stated: There are no festivals between spring and fall and it would be nice to have some, even if none of them was the Festival of the Four Winds.

That’s exactly what you’re suggesting and thank you for re-quoting the post so I didn’t have to.

Obviously, you only see what you want to see, not what was actually said. I said that the aspect of telling things in a way so that even kids (or people of low IQ) would be able to follow the story was one thing I am critizing. That has nothing to do with the use of contemporary language, which is another thing I criticize.

I don’t know how much clearer I can make this for you to understand, but I am getting the feeling that, no matter in how many different ways I am trying to explain this to you, you will always read it the way you want it so you can keep on arguing. And that is something I am not getting further into. Good luck.

If You Had a Choice Of New Class

If I had to pick one it would be Priest. A mix melee or ranged caster that channels the powers of the human gods. You see priests and priestesses in game but it seems to be more of a title. While I think much of this is covered through the elementalist and thus doesnt need to be added to game at all…. each god channel gives various effects, balthazar with burning and critical attacks, melandru with roots and defenses, dwayna for healing and the elite being a transformation into a avatar of the god/goddess akin to dervish of gw1.

I like that! Would go nicely with my wish to see the Monk return. I don’t care whether they call the profession Monk or Priest as long as they bring back something of the kind you suggested.

As of now, they have been distributing all those aspects to other professions (Revenant, Guardian) of which all are heavy armored fighter classes. I find that disappointing. The concept of a Monk/Priest who channels divine powers is much cooler.

Please, return to old, classic designs!

I don’t see the underground as something that needs to be something less clean or less modern just because it’s underground.

I understand what you are saying, and yes, of course that is correct. I was merely arguing that the original version of GW2’s Rata Sum looked a lot more like GW1’s, with some spots of green and sand etc., and not that hyper-clean, hyper-tidy, hyper-high-tech, flawless place we have now. I prefer the previous, more “archaic” looking version.

Being weirdly strict regarding genres is terrible.

It is not “weird”, it is a question of personal taste. Calling people weird whose opinion happens to defer from yours is quite rude.

I personally am happy that instead of an entirely rustic generic fantasy world where everyone lives in medieval times but they have magic.

There is the Charr with their not so dissimilar from rl tech with war machines and industrial style metalwork. Also the Asura that are using magic scientifically to create the various magitech style things.

I didn’t say anything against that, I said that — compared to GW2 in 2012 — the devs are currently taking it to far. That was the main premise of my OP.

And I stand by that.

  • I don’t want an Asura using high-tech to figure every important story step out for me, I want classic adventure where I do all of that myself the old fashioned way.
  • I don’t want armor and weapon sets that look like they came out of a sci-fi movie but rather a wider variety of classic-style sets.
  • etc.

Since when did slang become childish or being of low IQ?

That is not what I said.

Okay, there are two different things here that I criticize and you keep messing them up:
1) Excessive use of contemporary language (slang, contractions etc.).
2) Increase of childish dialogues (some of the content seems more fitting for Nickelodeon).

It is what you said. I could replace ‘childish’ with ‘kiddy’ if you want verbatim. You also mentioned low IQ in the post before mine.

Yes, in regard of #2, not #1. You claimed I had said that the use of contemporary slang was a sign of low IQ, which I did not. Please read more carefully and stop making wrong accusations, thank you.

Edit: Here is the proof, by the way, of what I said exactly:

I don’t think you do. It is not just about the colloquial language.

The dialogue often sounds like people of a low IQ are trying to have a conversation. And we all know IQ is not bound to your social background. The dialogue sounds like it was written so that even kids can follow the story (which, by the way, is an insult to kids, because many are very smart and some even more eloquent than many adults).

In Game Marriage system

Ashantara.8731

Hi, so i’ve been playing guild wars 2 ever since it came out, It’s by far my favorite game and will probably be for some time. But the only thing I really miss is a in game marriage system, I know it can’t be made up with a snap of the devs fingers but just something to think about, it wouldn’t be hard, have a cut scene or something and then give titles to the married couple saying blanks wife or blanks husband. And the marriage certificates to get married obviously could be on the gem store and I know a lot of people who would go for that.

Oh God…

I’m sorry. I have been a pen & paper role-player since around 1990 and am all for implementing more role-playing content into the game, but this is taking it too far for me. In all honesty, it even creeps me out a bit (probably because an in-game acquaintance ones started telling me about his “in-game wife” as opposed to his real-life wife and how they always marry in every online RPG… errrr, okay).

I think it’s good that people speak “colloquially” — not everyone talks like kings, particular not most of our merry band. Jory is from the streets, Braham is a kid, Rox is a plebe, and Taimi is a teenage wunderkind and in a rush. There’s nothing wrong with contractions.

I am sorry, but even “plebes” did not talk like that in our world, so why should plebes in GW talk like they have time-traveled from the future while more sophisticated characters have a tone fitting for a fantasy setting? It makes no sense to me. (Edit: Look at the Hobbits and common Dwarves in LotR, for instance. They are plebes, but none of them sounds like a contemporary teenager…)

Isn’t there a thing about revealing female armour/clothing in combat? I heard that it’s an actual thing to distract their oponent.

Hah hah. ^^

Back on topic. Are people wanting male armour to be revealing just for the sake of it because fenale is or do they want it as a concept/culture thing.

Both, actually.

I would like to be able to dress my Ranger in less “heavy” clothing. There is too much around the neck part etc. I already made topics on behalf of that request, this one in particular:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Rangers-need-fitting-armor/first#post6611256

Also, I find it unfitting for male Norn to have only one revealing cultural set for medium professions when their light armor sets allows a lot more showing-off of the tattoos.

On the head size part, do you find it too small even if you make it larger in character creation?

Yes. I already answered that before when I stated “even at max size”.

You picked one of the “bigger” faces and hair that makes the head look larger. If someone wants a different face and haircut, the heads really do look tiny. Had a similar issue with my female Norn, I have to admit: Picked not the thinnest body, and when I used “flatter” hair, the head looked disproportional to the body; had to pick a different hair style to “fix” that issue.

As of this point, the only thing I am 100% sure of is that Braham will get Taimi killed.

Why?

First of all, because the way they’ve made Taimi invaluable (i.e., we are no longer solving anything, she does, we are just the “muscle” to go and kill stuff) can’t go on forever. Also, bad story writing has a tendency to predict a character’s death by giving them more importance and (supposed) character development, then killing them off — many writers believe that this will then have a greater impact on the audience.

Secondly, something bad needs to happen for Braham to come around and leave his vengence mode. And whose death would have the heaviest impact of him? Rox’s could, but killing off an innocent child that looks up to him like to a big brother would be more severe.

I’m a female player and have mostly female characters. All of which I dress up in slightly revealing attire (I’m not even ashamed). Just recently I decided I would make a male character and dress it up in tastefully revealing attire as well… only it doesn’t really exist.

I am not a fan of what I consider a sexist policy in GW2, namely: creating too many “revealing” armor sets for female characters (so that finding ones that look good but don’t look completely unfitting for an adventurer, like seeing half of their breasts, hips, legs, or wearing high heels, is always a heavy chore), while finding some “sexier” outfits for male characters (that reveal more arm muscle, shoulders, neck, a bit of chest etc.) is impossible.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

If they ever make a new race, they could just make it so that when you create it, it is automatically level 80 with full exotics of your choice, and then place it at the start of the new expansion, just like TERA did with their new classes.

This. I don’t see why it can’t happen — players would love that approach (not just for Tengus but for other possible races as well).

GW1 provided the ability to create new characters (Elonians and Canthanese) who all started out in the respective new campaign. I don’t see why this wouldn’t be doable here with new races as well. You could give them a home encampment instead of a “home town”, for instance.

And as for race why? so people can whine even more about race change option?

Wow. Why so hostile towards people who like thinking in bigger dimensions?

Could we get a "Rebirth" option?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

We’ve been told that race changes are not possible due to technical limitations.

Those “technical limitations” are bound to the character’s progress (story choices etc.). If said reset item would nihilate the character’s whole background and let you rebuild them from scratch, only keeping their age (date of creation), that would certainly be someting many more people than you think would make use of.

[Suggestion] Slimmer male Norn, please!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Besides the male Norn head being too small, I agree about those over-sized feet. They look ridiculous. But perhaps the worst offender of their anatomy lies in the chestal region… To me, male Norns look like caricatures of elderly body builders. They remind me more of dwarves (squat bodies, arms and waists too big, etc.), really, than humans.

Female Norns look like goddesses to me. I dream of one day being able to create an equally god-like male Norn.

Couldn’t have said it better. Thank you. (And I agree on their chests, yuck!)

Besides those factors, as the last screenshot I posted proves they are anatomically misshapen. And this is an afront compared to their female “goddesses” (as you referred to them correctly).

Okay, let’s not argue about that, let’s focus on the aesthetics.

I already stated that it is not the amount of muscles per se that I mind as much as I mind the weird looking body shape (head-body-ratio, feet-body-ratio, leg length, posture etc.).

To make this more clear and demonstrate the truly crooked, misshapen aspects of the male Norn body, I have made this little graphic for you (see attachment). I hope you see the misshapen dissymmetry — that bothers me the most, which is also why I would prefer a hyper-muscular version of the male human body shape (which is symmetrical and has normal size ratios) over that of a male Norn.

It’s not any more unfair than newer players being unable to participate in any of the other parts of the game that took place in the first 18 months or so

I agree. Your point being…?

Did Anet say that they wanted each map to be a snapshot stuck in time?

Map? This is not about a map but about more festivals and diversity, not always the same repetitive, boring ones (or at least add more of the “old, boring” ones so that people have a little bit more diversity).

Even though the traveling ship is gone, the Zephyrites (I doubt) have forgotten their love for the sun, the storm, and the wind, so why not have a new bazaar in the Dry Top. […]

Now, that sounds like a nice idea. Finally someone not being grumpy about their sacred exclusiveness of having participated in a historic event, but some fresh ideas instead. Thank you.

Thank you so much, fellow adventurers!

I find it mind-boggling that you can use it in the first place without it being added to the collection. In addition, it can even be sold on the TP, which makes even less sense to me since you need to buy the item containing the crafting recipe from Hobbs one way or the other — so why would one craft it again to sell it when every legendary collector needs to get the recipe anyway? In her own words, ’ the story was so boring, i didn’t feel any reason to lvl up to find out what happens next, and therefore i had no attachment.’

— longer analysis: It’s hard to explain what makes a great storyline for the game

I need to point this out: I think, especially with the human race, I have played through all variations (all three heritage options and all three Orders, all the races we can help and win over for the final battle), and the level of excitement has varied extremely between those.

Some paths chosen (like playing a noble and chosing the Order of Whispers) are holding much better strorylines than others, which felt like a boring chore to play through. The same goes for some of the Norn paths (Romke’s horn and dueling our adversary were both fun storylines, for instance, while many others lacked any depth and innovation).

If you get lucky as a newbie to pick the “right” ones, you will be rewarded with diversity and excitement. If you pick the wrong ones, you will be bored to death.

That said, this fact goes for much of GW2’s content. You can feel that there are too many cooks involved in preparing the meal, and therefore you get very different results in quality.

1. I love finishers, they are so much fun in PvP and WvW!

2. Those toxic alliance events in PvE don’t make any sense to newcomers who haven’t played through LWS1. It took me years to understand what they were all about — it only became clear to me after watching the LWS1 movie. I agree that they are too high in level for starter maps.

3. They should introduce finishers into the LWS2 and HoT events where you “finish off” an opponent (namely “Mystery Cave” and “Hearts and Minds” missions).

No more kiddy dialogue, please!

Ashantara.8731

Some of you asked me to give examples. I can’t from the top of my head come up with the most crucial ones I’ve noticed these past couple of years, so I have to refer to the most recent ones I played.

Before I do so, let me say this to avoid any misunderstanding: My OP is NOT just about the voice acting. There are enough threads dealing with that topic.
This is about the modern juvenile tone set by the scripted dialogue: the use of certain contractions, cheeky slang, and (partially) slurry pronunciation and intonation (encouraged by the script, so I don’t blame the actors).

Now, I played through S2 and HoT again these past weeks, the most recent mission I played was Buried Insight. I will provide a handful of examples from said mission so you guys understand what I am geneally talking about here (I will mark the words/parts/contractions that heavily contribute to the aforementioned overall feeling, but you will really have to play through the missions to fully grasp the feeling in comparisson to, let’s say, GW1 or GW2 core campaign dialogue):

  • Big deal. It’ll fall just like the rest.
  • Yeah, how did you…? Ah. Gotcha.
  • Outta the way, chak!
  • That dragon’s not gonna sit around while we find this Rata Novan research.
  • Yay, us. / I’m okay.
  • Sounds like asuran tech incoming.
  • How’s it working now, Taimi?
  • Where’d we end up?
  • and so forth, and so on

P.S. on the annoying use of modern day contractions: In the same mission, the voice actor of Canach refused to slur his pronunciation that way. One of his lines went: “I’m not saying it, nature is.” But he pronounced it instead: “I am not saying it, nature is.” (which made a difference, as does the rest of his crystal clear pronunciation) Also, Canach’s lines in general sound a lot more literary in style than those of many of the other characters — especially Taimi and Braham truly sound like contemporary teenagers, but Jory and Kas sometimes do too, as does the Commander, and even Rytlock who recently has adopted a “grumpy ol’ redneck” diction.

P.P.S. As for the “childish tone”, some of the dialogue exchanged does remind me of watching an action hero cartoon rather than reading The Lord of Rings. I prefer my fantasy world classy rather than feeling like I was watching a tv show targeting eleven year olds.
