It’s Ares, not Aries, and yes, the God of War was present in many parts of the world under different names.

@OP: Why don’t you ask us again once we have played the final episode? As of now, it’s impossible to give a final statement about whether it would be worth it or not. The story went estrange.
Inculpatus cedo, those are just excuses. It could be developed into a LW season when done from scratch — they just don’t want to invest resources into its development.
Also, its popularity back then doesn’t say anything about how it would be perceived now, as a new product. Besides, the story has been made part of later seasons and HoT as well, what with Mordremoth’s influence being partially responsible for Scarlet’s transformation into a murdering lunatic. You can’t include the repercussions of LWS1 into later content without having LWS1 still present (for newer customers) as a playable part of GW2. It just doesn’t suffice.
You guys need to learn to post your system specs if you are expecting advice. It’s hard doing a remote analysis as it is, but not knowing the system specs makes it nearly an impossible task.
I use Windows 7, and my card is a GTX 760.
So do I, and no issues here.
Have you blown out the dust flakes from in between the cards cooling fins when you were cleaning the hardware?
For now I’ve decided to just go ahead and buy a new card.
You could run hardware tests, and for your graphics card in particular 3D stress tests, to see if there are any issues before you go waste money on new components without knowing if there is an issue with those parts.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
Ashantara there is no overheating and upon system crash i don’t get a BSoD, just a black screen and system shutdown then instant reboot.
Usually, when the system just shuts down like that, that’s the PSU saving it from damage. Are you sure your PSU is sufficient for the hardware you have attached to it? Or that there isn’t some wiring issue? Have you opened the PC and checked all cables are attached properly etc.? Also, is the hardware free of dust layers and flakes?
The support recently replied telling me to run the game in windowed mode and then when I’m in the game I can go back to full-screen. I don’t exactly get what this does but I will be trying it nevertheless.
Did it help? What are your nVidia Control Panel settings for GW2? (screenshot, please) Also, are you using a 64-bit or 32-bit system?
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
That stinks indeed. I’ve noticed it several times. Playing female characters in this game always seems to have severe downsides, on so many different levels.
P.S. Also, could Norn in general please not hold greatswords like they were cheer-on flags carried during the introductory march at the Olympics? What is wrong with the Asura version of carrying greatswords while not in combat, over the shoulder? Makes a lot more sense and doesn’t look ridiculous like aforementioned animation.
Please fix this bug: Since the release of LSW3 Episode 5, Retreat causes the Guardian to auto-attack the nearest red (i.e., enemy) or yellow (i.e., neutral) target, which is completely counter-productive as hitting a target results in the character’s movement speed to slow down (because “in combat”).
I am pretty certain that this is a recent thing and did not happen before aforementioned patch.
P.S. I had to deactivate auto-targetting because of this problem, which had never been an issue before.
This has been an issue since launch. I gave up reporting it after the third year or so.
Really?? Wow… That is a sad testimony of bug fixing then.
By the way, I think it wasn’t an issue a year ago — I am pretty certain I had auto-targeting active at the time. I only started noticing it a short while ago. Hmm. Maybe it was temporarily fixed?
it’s like this since day one , not really a bug : Guardian shouts are considered offensive skills.
Disable auto targeting in the options , make sure you don’t have a enemy selected before using a shout and it this ‘’ issue ’’ will not happen.
I did that to fix the issue already, but I don’t think it makes sense at all. Retreat, as the name suggests, is a “Let’s run for our lives, now!” skill, not a “Hey, you guys run, I keep fighting and possibly die all by myself!” skill.

Technically there was one dungeon path canned, but also the Aetherblade Dungeon and the Molten Facility only exist now as fractals and they’re somewhat different from the originals.
Uhm, I remember playing the Aetherblade path only half a year ago, so it’s still there.
Which dungeon was the Molten Facility part of?
In addition there’s the Nightmare Tower which is more or less an open world dungeon.
Woot? Are you talking about the one in Kessex Hill? Where’s the “dungeon” part of it? I remember exploring that POI, and there were only underwater remains with a champion krait guarding the whole construct, right? What did I miss?
Sometimes a wiggle and a twitch isn’t a signal; it’s just an itch.
And a bad one. Seriously, who wants to run around wearing candles on their shoulders or ugly wraps that cover a piece of armor on their forearms and hands?
The only good thing about those skins is the cool glowing-runes-effect. But that doesn’t make up for the rest.
Honestly if you were around during LS1 you’d understand that the story was not as great as it might seem in a movie. The first release(s?) was just people fixing sign posts for achievements. People got burned out from constant short-period achievement grinds […]
Nothing of what you criticize about S1 when it was released has anything to do with the story.
Given the story per se (of what was presented in the movie), I’d say the devs could turn this into a very popular purchaseable LW season without any of the downsides you mentioned during its release. It just needs to be done, but it doesn’t look like ArenaNet intends to put any resources into that project.
I just finished watching the 3-hour movie
That explains this thread. Every summary out there is a far superior delivery of the story than Season 1 was.
It was hogwash among hogwashes, only coming together in the final four releases. […]
Looking at the current LW season, it seems like they haven’t learnt that much from their past mistakes.

WvW should have had stat swapping at rank 0. It’s a sandbox mode where building a new sand castle costs like 1k gold plus PvE grind a lot of the time.
At this point every WvWer except the newbies has full ascended gear in whatever role they picked, we just can’t change roles. Need a simple amulet change like PvP or similar system.
Even as a casual WvW player (or specifically because of it°), I have to agree on this. I don’t understand why the system used in PvP hasn’t been adopted for WvW.
°) As a newbie, you are discouraged to play WvW because of the equipment requirements. You have to craft sets for builds before you can even enter and test which character you like to play most in WvW etc. You are less flexible and that severely reduces the fun factor and keeps people away.

GW2 core also had 33 dungeons when it released.
What?! There were more dungeons earlier and they were all canned??? Nooooo! This is the first time I am hearing about this.
As far as I know, only one dungeon path was ever “canned”, and that was replaced by the Aetherpath. 33 dungeons would be the number you arrive at when you include every single path, including story paths. We still have 33.
Ahh, what a relief! The number almost gave me a heart attack.
You also have a chance of unlocking them via BLC wardrobe unlocks.
There was a big April patch, a year ago April. Changed HoT in many ways. Added veteran events for people who prefer to solo for example, in enough quantity to make a difference. Thinned out enemies. Changed some of the adventures to make it easier to get silver/gold. Changed some of the collections to need bronze instead of silver, decoupled day from night in TD, among other changes.
It was a pretty big deal.
Ooooh, thanks. As I was still leveling characters at the time (and wasn’t active in the community, nor reading the release notes), I completely missed out on this.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
Sadly they wont change this, this will fall under the same argument has im level 80 and don’t want 30 alt characters, but I get 200 Tombs of Knowledge a week.
This is far from being an adequate comparison. Tomes of Knowledge provide you with Spirit Shards, which you need for ascended crafting, among other things. You don’t go right-click and delete those, but this is exactly what I have to do with the Bank Access Expresses.
That’s an argument that says whatever is current doesn’t need improvements. It’s an argument against ever changing anything. What’s the point of the forums if not to suggest better ways to do things? […]
Thank you.

(Note: Even though I purchased the game at release in 2012, I didn’t really start playing it until late 2015.)
But i agree with you, if the HOT we have right now is what we got when released i would not have any negative comments other then simple preferences.
Errr… today’s HoT is no different than back when it came out. What are you referring to exactly?
How to know the date a character was created?

It’s overkill of course only for displaying your character creation date
That’s what I was thinking. Thanks.
My game don’t have cache folder O_o i don’t know why
Yes, it does. It is not located in your installation folder. If you use CCleaner, you will see how much data is being cached for this game.
Also, I don’t see any anomalies in your second screenshot, either.
So I recently “lucked” out and got both a Shining Blade Glider and a Moth Backpack from a the Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlocks. However, it turns out that when you unlock the Moth Backpack for example, the Moth Glider isn’t unlocked with it even though you can’t buy them separately through any means.
It doesn’t matter that you can’t purchase them separately. The GWU only unlocks one item at a time, and those are two items you mentioned (backpack and glider).
Can GW2 be played on an entry level computer?

Asking for a friend…
Can GW2 be played on a modern entry level computer? She’s looking for a budget PC, maybe in the $500 range… would this be enough to play the game at a reasonable level?
Well, I once successfully tried to play it on my old non-gaming laptop, so I believe your friend should be fine playing it on lower settings.

Hmm, GW2 Efficiency demands you to grant it all permissions available, otherwise it doesn’t work. Not sure I want them to have all that information…
Any alternatives to that website?
1. Have you checked your system for overheating issues?
2. Do you get a BSoD when your system crashes? If so, what information does it give you?
3. Is it possible that you have a defective PSU?
Except it’s been like that for months, if not years. Since whenever they changed the ‘My Account’ page (for those affected, anyway).
In that case, we should all file a complaint.

You can display this and a bunch more statistics and information about your account on gw2efficiency: https://gw2efficiency.com/
I don’t understand how to get it to work, since you can’t seem to link your GW2 game account with your GW2 Efficiency account.
OMG false alarm. It was on my mesmer. Oh thank god. I would have sworn it was purple on my thief though – that was why I was so shocked when I saw it was ascended and it said it was a zojja’s staff.
I thought as much. Putting a legendary skin on any item turns them “purple”.
A loss? Sure. A huge loss? It’s big enough to complain about, but not enough for ANet to change the code to prevent it from dropping.
Well, if more people complained, maybe they would reconsider. I wouldn’t be posting here if I didn’t think they cared about their paying customers, especially those who spend tons of money on Gem Store items.
Those chests are GW2’s version of lottery tickets you can buy on a fair. You get crap most of the time
I don’t think you are getting it. This isn’t about “crap” in terms of “items of low value”. This is about “items of no value”, as I can’t do anything with them (not sell them, not gift them, not even use them!) except destroy them. That is not the point of BLC drops.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
This bug still persists.
I can’t use the skill anywhere near enemies (or neutrals) as it initiates combat, thus severely slowing me down.
Hello,
I would like to post a complaint. I have had to delete about a hundred Bank Access Expresses in the past months, because I own a Permanent Bank Access Express, placed in a Shared Inventory Slot.
This is a huge loss for me and everyone else in my position.
Is there a way to program the game to recognize a permanent item of the type in shared inv slots and to then not drop those one-time-use equivalents for players who own the permanent version? I am seriously losing interest in opening BLCs because of the high chance of receiving 33% of trash that I have to can right away.
P.S. If at least those items were tradeable or could be sent to a friend instead of having to delete them…
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
It’s Drub*i*n, not Drub*e*n, as Agent Ifwyn incorrectly calls him in the initial dialogue with him.
Thanks, SlippyCheeze, what you said.
Anyway, I just noticed that gathering with these Unbound Magic tools takes longer. The respective resources won’t be in your inventory until the gathering bar has been completed, while with the traditional tools you can cancel the action as soon as the node’s name is no longer visible (you can verify this by looking at your inventory while gathering, and will see I am right).
On the bright side of things, they seem to gather more in one go, which means rich nodes require less cycles to harvest (including the ones in guild halls).

Just got that those notes being played are the cap/decap sounds mentioned here (only that I do not perceive them as “sounds” of “car doors” etc.).
It would truly be nice to be able to permanently deactivate them without deactivating any of the the other in-game sounds.
This is what super-strong guys tend to really look like: http://nightflight.com/wp-content/uploads/CHICAGO-WRESTLING-2a.jpg
It’s a world different from what you are asking for, and much closer to … yup, the model that is in use today for male norn.
But we already have such Norn bodies! (Although their heads are still too tiny even at maximum size, compared to the two human males in your example, and their feet are still ridiculously huge, which has zero to do with body muscle mass…)
All I am asking for is the addition of ONE (or two) slimmer model(s), like the one in my OP’s edited screenshot.
Example. Elephant Seals. The sexes look the same when young, but markedly different as adults.
Adult male and female
Did I not, repeatedly, explicitly point out that I was talking about humanoids, not animals? ^^
I think Norn need thicker legs more than thinner torsos.
Only if they adjust females to match that appearance.
I don’t know why people keep arguming with me. I am not asking for the current bodies to be altered, I am asking for an additional option.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
While I enjoy the discussion (and do hope for a price reduction for vets in the future), the one important point still stands: It is not fair for newer players to come here and complain about having to pay extra for the upcoming expansion, when vets have done that already for the last expansion. Either people accept the fact that you can’t get all content for free, including future releases, or they don’t — whining about it won’t change that fact.
I just edited my original post to show what I mean.
I don’t want a 1:1 human male body. I like the extra muscle, that’s a typical Norn trait.
I just want a nicer overall shape (see screenshot comments for details) and a better body-head-ratio.
I think it does, on certain professions traited for it. I’m not 100% sure though.
I know for a fact that there is one ranger trait that you can select that does this.
That’s apples to oranges.
You’ve traveled the real world but you’re only looking at one species. Humans.
Sure, respond to only one part of my argumentation, the one that I was given as an additional example after my actual reference to Tyria. I wrote: “[…] since all other humanoid races on Tyria sport similar characteristics between their two genders.”
So…
Anyway, it’s pointless to argue with people who don’t understand my OP. I merely asked for more options for male Norn, as females do look like kittening humans, so I want to at least be able to create a male Norn who does not have weirdly shaped werebear body. That was my whole point.
P.S. Let’s face it, Guild Wars’ Norn are a spitting image of Warcraft’s Orcs in regard of their physiology: females have “sexy” bodies while males look like bulky muscle packs with short legs, huge feet and hands, and a tiny head on top of their ridiculous bodies.
I just pulled numbers out of the air here, but that’s the idea people are going for.
Yes, that would be a nice idea, and one can only hope regarding the fact that there was no such payment model for expac 1.
You may want to look into the Triumphant armor from WvW.
I did on release — yuck.
May I ask what makes you think that it qualifies for any of my points? I am genuinely curious as it has none of what I am asking for. On the contrary, it embodies almost everything I despise about most (especially newer) medium armor sets. It is militant (metal, blades), it doesn’t look like a ranger’s armor at all. It has no pouches, no leather bags, no anything. It covers all the skin. It is awful!
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
But we already have that, its called Human
that makes no sense from a genetic point of view, especially since Norn boys look as “normal” as their girls.
It totally can make sense, puberty and other hormonal changes can theoretically cause the shape of growing bodies to change dramatically. It’s a stretch in this case, but making statements like this just makes it obvious you know jack kitten about genetics.
Look. No need to insult me for not being a biologist. The last time I was confronted with the basics of genetics, it was in high school about a quarter of a century ago.
Still, I doubt it is very “realistic” for a whole humanoid race to have males look that far off from their female counter-parts, especially when they look 100% identical before puberty. And in particular since all other humanoid races on Tyria sport similar characteristics between their two genders. (And frankly, I have traveled the real world quite a bit and have never spotted any such grave physiological differences between men and women in any of the corners of our beautiful planet, either. Characteristics like basic bone structure, height etc. are usually being shared physiological characteristics for the respective region.)
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
I agree. After crafting Howl a couple of weeks ago, I am a sad camper. The footsteps are barely visible, even swallowed by certain textures, etc. It looked cooler on YouTube than the real thing.
Since HoT has been stated to be included as part of the next Expansion, will it be discounted if you already own HoT? Since otherwise, you would be paying the same amount as someone who didn’t buy HoT, but for significantly less additional content.
Yes, welcome to our world, as the rest of us who have owned GW2 since release will be paying for the third time, since HoT was not on discount for those who already own GW2 (and neither will the third expansion be, I assume).
Turn the UI sounds down to about half, it helps. Can’t turn UI down completely though or you won’t be able to hear important things like the warhorn que pop noise.
That doesn’t answer my question.
Can someone tell me what those new annoying notes that play throughout a whole match are supposed to indicate?
I just played my first match in weeks, and it was driving me crazy…
Elite Specializations - were a terrible idea
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Ashantara.8731
While I understand what you are saying, Elite specs are supposed to be better than the base class
No, they are not, at least not in all cases. Take Ranger, for instance. A Viper build is not using the Elite Specs at all as it is more powerful with other specializations used. Only when you are going to be the Druid healer you switch to Druid Elite Spec.
This is a good example of how this system is counter-intuitive. It’s min-maxing, as the meta consists of playing the “most efficient builds” only. (When HoT went live, I enjoyed playing a Berserker Ranger with some glyphs — it worked well, but it wasn’t “the best possible endgame build”, hence I was quickly forced into playing “either, or”. So now I play either Condi Ranger or Healer.)
There would have been very easy solution to this Engineer AFK problem. ArenaNet just should remember how Ritualist spirits worked in Guild Wars 1, and change turrets working same way in this specific area.
For those who have not been played Guild Wars 1, this is how Ritualists spirits worked: Only one same kind of spirit could be up same time. So in the party was not able to be 2 ritualists who used same spirits, or other players sprits were destroyed. Same system to the turrets and there we go, problem solved, only one same kind of turret can be up and other same kind turret is destroyed. Other players can use kits, like boms, minefields, crenades, flamethrowers and so on, but only one player can use turrets at same time. And that wouldent solve it at all since people would just use commander group to get into map then leave so they are a party of 1 and set up all their turrets anyway.
They didn’t mean “in the party” (literally) but more likely “in the area”. And yes, that would actually solve the problem.
So one turret engineer who hangs around in that map can hog that playstyle and deny it to any other engineer who shows up?
Nope. The other engineer would be able to build the same turrets, it just would lead to the distruction of the previous ones build. That way it would be a never ending competition that everyone would grow tired of quickly.

the current HP system in gw2 that requires players to join “HP trains” in order to gain Hero Points seems broken and unchallenging.
I haven’t joined a single “HP train” and got all the Hero Challenges I needed on nine characters (three of them even finished HoT maps 100%). You just do the ones soloable in the first three maps, and for the few non-soloable ones in Verdant Brink you open a LFG (you’ll always find 1-4 people who need them too, so…).
Here’s to hope for the upcoming expansion! Cheers!
I contacted support a few weeks ago about the same issue. This was their response:
Hey there xxx,
Thank you for contacting Guild Wars 2 support. I just looked into your account and the accounts are still in fact linked. We’ve just been having some display issues with our website for a couple days. You still have the accounts linked and everything is all set. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know.
