DR is part of the game and although I agree with the rational behind DR I would love to know just SOME of the base mechanics behind it. For example:

Is DR per account or per character? That is if I am in one area with my Guardian and he reaches DR would my Warrior in the same area also be affected?

Does DR require you take the Guardian in the above example to a different area/map for a period of time to remove DR or could I just do something else on my Warrior for that period of time and then go back to what the Guardian was doing before DR was reached?

Those two questions puzzle me as in my case, and to my perception, DR is gained for the account but removed for the specific character.

Pretty sure DR is per character. I had an alt parked at the Shatterer for several days, just using it to do that one event then changing characters to do other things. After a few days of doing this, it suddenly no longer got either of the 2 chests. I had forgotten about the DR and thought it was a bug or something. Happened again with the next event. I brought in a different character to the following Shatterer event and got both chests. Took the first one away and did some events in a different area. Brought it back and did the Shatterer the next day and got both chests again.

They could do that, true. However the example you give is of items that are not sold in the gem store so that method is fine for those items. What I was saying was that increasing the drop rate of non gem store RNG boxes to the point where you will get a guaranteed ticket cuts into their profit. Since a company doesn’t like to go against their own financial interests, how would doing this benefit them?

Anyone who suggests a change in the drop rate needs to take into account the gem stores profits. Any suggestion that decreases it has no chance. And the method he suggested would decrease it. Why would anyone pay for the gem store box if they are guaranteed to get it for free from random drops?

If he went to the gem store he could buy a minipet and then he wouldn’t need a pet rock. Surely he has gold by now. He’s been playing since beta, he can afford one lousy minipet. Obviously he has psychological problems if he is that attached to a rock. He needs to get out of his parent’s cave and find his own cave. Maybe a nice one he can share rent with, with some other trolls his age. Find a nice girl troll instead of obsessing over a rock.

You can put your heal skill on autocast. You will still get kicked eventually. It’s been about an hour the couple of times I did it.

When people bring out the line about grind, they have picked out one line from the manifesto and then misapply it to the whole game.

The “no grind” comment from what I could find seems to refer to COMBAT only. People take the no grind to refer to the game as a whole. But if you read his statement, that’s not what he said.

The key phrase here, right after saying that they don’t want people to grind is “We want to change the way that people view combat”.

He is not talking about grind in any other part of the game. He did not say the game would not have grind, only that you wouldn’t have to grind mobs to level.

It will kick in like that if your character hasn’t left the area to do events somewhere else. So if you are there in an area for some time, log out, log back in at some later time and stay in that area it counts as one session. To break DE you have to leave the area and do events (number of events unknown) elsewhere for a while. Then you can go back.

I think I read that the cutoff for DE to kick in is 3 hours. I usually tried to do 3 or 4 events elsewhere to break it but it may only take one.

Exactly. And there are two other factors I believe.

1. ANet knows that to keep people interested in the game there has to be a constant excitement factor. That factor comes from what drops from creatures and chests and RNG boxes. You allow everyone access to all skins and the excitement factor drop dramatically. If you are not excited about what you might get in drops, then you get bored and stop playing.

2. Also the all the complaints about RNG represent a very small part of the GW2 community. Most GW2 gamers do not participate on the forums. I am an officer in a large guild and we have had discussions about RNG and for the large majority, they don’t care about RNG one way or another. The vast majority of players have fun playing the game and are excited when they get something cool. They don’t care for the most part about RNG percentages of drops because it isn’t an issue. The main people complaining about RNG are those on these forums. In real life, the people who are upset about something are the ones vocal about it. The people who don’t care or are happy with the way things are don’t say much. ANet knows this and knows that most people are not bothered by RNG in any fashion.

Good points. It’s easy to read these forums and forget that though the forum posters may come to a consensus about RNG boxes, the average player is likely happily oblivious to the whole subject. If they get a nice drop they are happy and if they don’t, they weren’t realiy trying for it anyway and so don’t care.

Yeah. I thought about buying a set of those wings and decided against it. The flapping was too fast and annoying. The constant movement catches the eye too much. I would prefer either slower or maybe not flapping when standing.

For me, the best way to handle this RNG was to decide to not want what ANet has made, to not care. After trying to get the flame and forge skins and failing, it’s less taxing on the nerves to be indifferent. I assumed that they were unobtainable and when I open up the coffers, it is just to get the candy which I plan to use to buy the 30% magic find cupcakes for when I farm. (Shrug) I don’t think it’s what ANet wants, for its players to be indifferent about what they offer as rewards, but I find it less stressful. I actually had forgotten about the weapon skins from the chests till I read this thread.

As it is set up now, no one picks the underwater traits except for something like water fractal. I certainly don’t change out my traits just to go underwater in PvE, even if I am going to be there a while. If it was set up to switch automatically at the same time your underwater weapons appear, this would be great and allow for better underwater combat. Maybe people would like it better if they could fight more effectively underwater.

If you check the PvP locker the shatterer version is there and you can preview it. It’s in the very last panel at the very end.

It would be so nice to have the UI customizable. I had mine in Guild Wars 1 fixed the way I liked and how it made sense to me. For example, I would like to move the health bars of mobs as high as possible and maybe over some. Right now, there are times when it is on top of a tall mobs and it blocks my view of their animations unless I skew the camera around so I am looking at their side.

I read it on my iPad and yeah it’s bright. I read the other forums sometimes for amusement. It’s a big and unpleasant change coming back to this screen.

based on other people’s testing, Master, Mystic, and BLSK all appear to be about the same, while Basic is significantly less. I haven’t seen Crude or the intermediate kits tested, though I don’t have high hopes they will prove to be more cost-effective.

Hmmm. I wonder how fine salvage kits do. Since they can be bought with karma, making them essentially free, you save the price of the master kit right there. A small savings but maybe enough to offset some lesser amount of dust produced.

When it requires general events or shiverpeaks events, I have found the Norn noob area (the 2 to 5 area) to be especially fast. The events happen in a small area, are frequent and at least 2 of them are a set of 3. In that small area, there are at least 15 different types of enemies for variety and enough nodes for harvesting. The same area, a little higher, up has 3 veteran oak creatures (forget their name) which respawn fast.

Claw of Jormag + pre-events = 5 shiverpeak events, 2 group events, bunch of veteran slayer, 2+ champion slayer, blues for salvaging, greens for forging, plenty of reviver, if you bring an AoE condition remover the fear and chill removal will clear that off too

The silver mobs in dungeons also counts for veteran slayer. This seems to be a relatively recent change.

True. But if I’m trying to do it fast it might not be on at that time. And not everyone is high enough level to do that. But otherwise, a very good point.

Eh, it won’t be that bad. You will have a 1% chance so if you buy 100 of them you should have a decent chance of getting the expansion. Iirc, the scratched tree is an Easter Egg that has been there since beta. It refers to the 55 monk from Guild Wars 1, a famous farming build.

Yep, one of my favorite dailies is when karma spender comes up. I have an alt parked by the karma alcohol vendor in The Old Estate in the charr starter area. I just buy alcohol with karma, which then gets me points on my drinking title. lol

I go to a cultural weapon seller (Charr) and buy fine salvage kits. 3 of them gets me that part of the daily. I haven’t bought a salvage kit (except the occasional master kit) for money in months.

The Devs said they are going to make additional ways to get these.

I hope they give you a refund. They shouldn’t allow you to buy bank slots if you are maxed out. It used to be on the bank itself, not in the gem store. I think if you tried to buy too many there it wouldn’t allow you. They changed to gem store item because it was non intuitive how to buy them but still, there should be a fail safe.

1 of my friends really wanted the fused greatsword. He farmed alts for keys day and night, spent gems in keys, opened probably around 100 chests. Nothing.

Another friend of mine opened 4 chests, got one. Some guy opened 4 chests got 3 claim tickets.

I really wanted a Sclerite GS. I farmed around 70 boxes. Nothing. Some low level warrior stumbled upon one on the first day of the event while leveling in Southsun. Saw someone with 3 of them.

Life isn’t fair. RNG can go suck all the kittens. All of them.

Companies often reward some customers over others. For example, they reward frequent fliers and give discounts to people who buy large amounts. The key here is that they reward customers who stand out financially from the others by buying more. If you got the goodies from the DE, then that was your reward from ANet for spending more at start. The free minis were a reward for continuing support. To demand the free minis when you did not buy gems is like the person who demands the frequent flier discount when he has only flown once before.

The rng Gods hate me with a passion. So far I have dumped well over 250 rare Greatswords and probably close to 100 exotic Greatswords down the Mystic Toilet with no success at all at a precursor. Today, while doing her daily, the better half (not sure how long I will still call her that now) dumped 4 totally random rares on the Toilet and got the Tooth of Frostfang. So if you do not see me in game for awhile it is because I will be occupied beating my head against the nearest brick wall.

Check other guilds, see if they take temporary people for the missions. Some medium sized guilds, in particular, may have enough influence built up to start one but not enough warm bodies on line regularly to do the content.

Has support contacted you and said what the problem was with it? I’m not seeing anything wrong with this name. Is that the full name? Grey? As far as I know, names have to be reported as offensive and then looked at by a person, so it can’t be that it managed to trigger some sort of computer filter.

In GW1 there were some holiday titles (so like achievements) which were IMPOSSIBLE to complete in one year even if you would play 24 hours while the event was live. I was fine with that. And so I am fine with what they offer now. If you cant grind it now, you can return next year and finish the job. Its not like this thing will be gone forever.

That actually makes sense. I was thinking of it as a one time thing but if they are following their own traditions, such as on their holiday titles, then it’s something they expect people to work toward over time.

It wouldn’t hurt ANet to have someone whose job it is, to clearly explain this sort of thing to players. Whether this is only this year or its every year, so we aren’t speculating in the forum

Until level 80, you don’t make a lot of gold. It took me months to get 100 gold, especially since I was leveling 8 professions and then gearing them up. However now that that is done, my bank balance is rising at a nice rate. Access to all of the map and no real expenses means money starts to really come in. (This assumes you don’t do a lot of PvP and don’t spend a ton of money in WvW).

You are assuming that they see it as a problem. If they are making more money this way than from direct sales, then to them there is no problem at all. Since they are continuing to offer these, then my guess is they are making good money from the RNG boxes. It will only end if people stop spending so much money buying these items. Since that is unlikely, due to the old adage that there is a sucker born every minute, this means they won’t stop with the RNG boxes and the threads will continue.

I see, so I guess I’ll just have to get both to 80 seeing as how Warrior is mostly used for dungeon runs and Necromancer for PvP. Seeing as how I am broke in game it should be Warrior first for the gold farm/dungeons. Unless anyone knows how a Necro is able to farm faster than a Warrior.

If you take a character to the PvP area, it’s immediately level 80 with access to all traits, wearing exotic armor and has a set of exotic weapons and can get free sigils, runes and amulets. I don’t know if they have other jewerly there. Don’t do PvP and never saw a merch with those.

In the twitch livecast video they did he mentions that watching the fireworks once will give you chest containing all three versions (light, medium, heavy) of the helm. Think it was in the first video but here are both links, the second one really focuses on Dragon Ball.

Then that makes it sound like an account bound chest, rather than the Guild Wars 1 version where the hat simply appeared in your inventory at the end of a finale. So, it looks like you get 3 of them total. Well that’s not too bad. Much better than getting only one.

Yep, that was how they dd it in Guild Wars 1. The finale is on the last day and repeats itself every 2 hours. You only needed to attend one to get the hat that appeared in your inventory. Actually, you could get one each time you attended if you wanted to. Doesn’t say that here, but it’s possible.

I’m pretty sure you are limited to only getting it once. You do, however get a light, medium, and heavy version (which all look the same) rather than being forced to pick a single version.

The way I read it, it doesn’t say specifically one way or another.

I use the Mango pie at level 80 sometimes. They are useful in some places, like Jormag where you are likely to go down and areas in Orr near the temples when they are contested.

True, but in all the cases I have read on the forums about being banned it has never been over sending someone else mats. Also, gold selling is forbidden in the TOS, but sending mats is not mentioned. Since its not mentioned as being something they ban you over, they can hardly do so, imo.

You were hacked and I assume you got it back thru contacting support. Update your original ticket and ask for an account restoration, this will give you all your stuff back, it’s a one time deal though, so make sure your computer is secure and you don’t have a key logger. If you get hacked again and lose everything, you won’t get a second rollback.

It may depend on several thing. One is the amount sent to the other account. There is probably a threshold so small amounts are safer. Also, it may get triggered by a sudden large increase in the bank balance, so if that account doesn’t bank it this may be safer (this is a theory I read on the forums). However, even if you do get a ban, once you prove ownership of both accounts, you should get reinstated. One thing you might do, is party up with the other account and then say in party chat what you are doing so there is documentation if it triggers an audit. They will see this and can check that the accounts are owned by one person.

It seems to be gold they watch. I sent a LOT of mats to a guildie during the first few months and never had trouble with it.

I have 8 level 80s, full exotics on all and some with ascended amulets. I don’t consider my self to have a main and I try to play all mine equally. They all play differently so it doesn’t get boring. I’m not using the same 2 weapon skills over and over again. i use at least 15 weapon sets, and I tend to switch weapons around some to change it up even more.
