They are almost certainly waiting for when they bump up jeweler to 500 to introduce the remaining stat combos as craftable items. I suspect that will come before the end of the year as per their promise in the last blog.

Last time i heard this, it was about them “certainly waiting for when they add ascended crafting to the game”. Before that it was “surely when they add earrings”. And so on, and so on, for a year already. Last time any dev commented on it, they said that all missing stat sets will be added the next time ascended gear gets introduced. That was over half a year ago.

Just make the time for spawning longer. Like, say, 30 minutes. Done and done.

Make the spawning random.

Why on earth don’t they do this? Why do they have it set up in such a way that people can almost time when champs can be triggered like clockwork?

Because the same would happen as if they nerfed the drops. People would simply migrate to the next best thing. And the same people that complain now that champ trains make the rest of the zones dead would complain about dead queensdale and frostgorge and ask why noone is doing champs anymore.
And they would stop being done, because they are profitable only when done in larger groups, and with fast rotation. Single champs done solo or in small groups are still not worth the effort.

1st you need to understand what reasonable means before claiming to be as such. Trying to justify extreme criticism because something doesn’t fit into your thought process, is not reasonable. It boarders on the edge of irrational and vain naivety.

Not when that “extreme criticism” is in itself unreasonable. And it is.

Again look up observational data. Given it is the only evidence we have access to, it fits rather well.

I did. I have also done some basic calculations. I see nothing out of the ordinary – just the normal, expected results of a high variance rng.

The only thing that i can see now is that some people just don’t understand probability and statistics – which in itself is also not suprising, seeing as they likely never learned this (beyond perhaps some simple basics).
Too bad, because every time someone goes with some unsupported claims that rng is broken somewhere, it makes seeing and reporting situations where it really is broken that much harder.

Really, if you want me to treat your claims seriously, supply some math. And this observational data (meaning: numbers) of yours.

My only problem with these zerg trains is simply just they make the rest of the world feel dead.

It’s just your feeling. The world would be equally dead (or alive, depending on server and zone) as it is now regardless where the farmers would congregate. Nerfing champ trains would not make those people go where you want them to go (if they wanted to go there, they’d have already done that).

If you want the people to be evenly spread over the world, you need to give them incentives to do so. That means more, not less rewards.

Ascended Armour. Is it worth it?

in Crafting

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

For weapons. Armor is not in yet. And i wouldn’t call it “just getting to 500” – it will cost you quite a lot. Also, crafting of ascended gear requires additional materials, which, while not terribly hard to get, still require some grind (about 100 champions, 25 dungeons and either 17 temple events or 25-30 world bosses per each weapon).

The difference between ascended and exotic is comparable to the difference between exotics and rares. So yes, they offer a visible improvement.

lol @ wild accusations…..fits perfectly with conspiracy theories

It’s evidently very easy to go to the extreme right or left. No way it could be a little off to one side or the other. It must be wild, rampant, and/or conspiracy level.

Take a look at what observational data is/does/can be used for. Then take a step back from the extreme edges and come back to reasonable.

That’s what i am advocating. Being reasonable. Claiming there’s something wrong with MF rng is currently not a reasonable approach, unless some proof is supplied. And so far there was neither proof nor even a believable reason for suspicion. Without either, any claims to the contrary can only be called “wild accusations”.
Don’t like that? Find proof to support your belief.

No reason aside from the field research?

Whose field research? Because so far i saw none, only hearsay and anecdotal “evidence” that proves exactly nothing.
Mind you, considering the drop chances involved, and numbers of tries in general population, to have anything even close to believable results you’d have to do a documented field research on thousands of people each doing thousands of attempts.
And then you’d have to show that the results you got are meaningfully different than expected.
But of course i guess hearsay and wild accusations are easier to make.

Also, what’s your counter to stomping with:

Death of a stomper?

  • Mist Form?

People are generally thinking ‘uniform distribution’ when they say ‘random chance’.

The Mystic Forge does NOT run on uniform distribution.

I am pretty sure nobody in this thread thought it does. Of course different outcomes have different chances of happening. You have a much better chance of getting a rare than exotic from four rares, after all. What people mean by saing that it is random is that there are no “hidden recipes” for precursors, and that the chance is dependant only on the recipe used (not affected by DR, gems bought, time played, account id or anything like that).

Plz reduce Req for iron & soft wood refining

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

If you’re leveling an alt: do the Queensdale champ train and salvage everything. You’ll get levels, karma, luck, and crafting materials.

If you need iron and soft wood and your alt is really low level: save the bags until they are at iron/wood levels and open them then.

Actually: the champ bags are account bound so you may be able to keep an alt at around level 30 permanently to serve as a bag opener (this should work, I think).

The content of the various loot bags doesnt depend on the level of the character that opens them but their prefix, Tiny, Small, Light, Medium, Large and Heavy, from tier 1-6.

You are talking about the loot bags, Lord Kuru about champ boxes. Two different things.
Still, any method of obtaining anything in the game that starts with “make an alt of a certain level” is at best a workaround. A solution must exist that satisfies both alt and single character users.

General availability of exotic gear makes it ok. If ascended gear was obtainable at comparable prices and in all the same multitude of ways as exotics, it would also be ok. Unfortunately, it isn’t.
It’s not the fact that they weren’t there at launch that makes ascended a problem, but the cost and effort required to get them.

WvW & Ascended Weapons/Armor [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Ascended gear is a 5% stat increase not a 10% stat increase btw. Not sure why people are saying it is a 10% increase.

base weapon damage on ascended weapons is higher than exo

ascended weapons have a higher base damage AND 5% extra stats

It is a 5% base damage increase, 5% stat increase, so a 5% increase overall.

That’s for weapons. Trinkets do have a 10% stat increase.

only that’s not how it works, when you combine 5% base damage, with zerker gear it’s not a 5% damage increase. The 5% compounds.

Interesting wearing zerker gear in wvw. Still it is a 5% overall stat increase. Yes dps is calculated differently but can not say it is a 10% increase to overall dps when it is not.

For zerker the dps increase for full set is over 20%. 10-12% is for soldier gear, which is quite popular in WvW.

1. The argument that it goes against the “play how you want” philosophy is invalid because, in all honesty, Ascended armor is NOT required or even necessary to play competitively in WvW.

It may not be required, but it certainly helps a lot.

If you don’t believe me, someone already made the micro/macro argument far better than I ever could.

And that argument got debunked.

3. Whether or not WvW was meant to be unbalanced or not is irrelevant, because it always has been right from the start, and shows no sign of changing.

As has been mentioned many times in this thread, “It was broken, so it doesn’t matter if we break it even more” is a terrible argument.

5. Food is one of the few readily available consumable buffers in game, and it’s meant to be used as such, therefor certain balancing aspects around it DO have to be made, or at least included. Whether or not you use it doesn’t matter, it’s still a huge aspect of the game and should NEVER be discounted.

Interesting. You say that food cannot be discounted, and yet ascended gear can? Please, have some consistency here…

Is the mystic forge Really random ?

in Crafting

Astralporing.1957

The problem is that truly random occurrences don’t look random to people. People often expect random events to be spread out evenly but in actuality the events tend to cluster. Below is a picture of random dots. Imagine if the dots showed people getting a precursor and the white areas are where people are trying and failing to get one. Some people would appear lucky and others unlucky when it’s simply randomness making its appearance.

If the same scatter diagram didn’t repeat itself over the course of time I’d agree. When the same scatter diagram repeats day in and day out, then I will need to question if it is completely random on all accounts.

Given the population, the drop chances and the nature of the rng, it is certain that some “patterns” will emerge.

Remember that old adage about monkeys, typewriters and Shakespeare? That’s exactly what happens here. Doesn’t mean there’s a conspiracy at work – only that you see only a tiny part of a greater whole, connect few dots and decide they form a pattern, and think that pattern will be repeated elsewhere.

If I had to fault anything it would be he should of had a 3rd stage to his evolution.

Oh? I was pretty sure he already had 4 stages (every 25% HPs)? The visible differences from second stage up are not that big (if there are any), but there are changes in the way he fights.

In general, the fight was actually good. It seems that Anet this time avoided their previous tendency to overcomplicate things and pile up annoying mechanics onto annoying mechanics (like in the twilight assault final fight), and just decided to make the boss fun. They succeeded.
They succeeded also with scaling – the instance semed to me to retain the same difficulty both solo and in a group with my guildies.

Flipping actually takes money out of the economy (the TP has taxes..) explain to me how removing money from the economy causes inflation lol.

The prices on TP (which effect inflation) are based not on the total amount of gold in economy, but on the amount of gold that ends up in the top few percent of players. Especially when we consider the more costly things, like rare skins, precursors etc. As far as uneven distribution of wealth go, flipping has always been the primary cause, with everything else being far, far second to it. Nerfing farm spots only makes sure that no non-flippers would ever be able to get in the same financial zone.

Nothing you said is about inflation/deflation though. It’s about supply/demand and the unequal distribution of wealth among the player base…which is not remotely to do with inflation/deflation

Oh, but it is. The price of “popular goods” (like crafting mats) is generally going down due to the champ trains. It’s only the high-end goods that are increasing in price – and price of those goods is being dictated not by how much gold is in the hands of an average player, but by the wealth of the tiny 1% top minority. It is the mechanisms that support that unequal distribution of wealth that cause this. It is mostly the TP flipping that is behind it.

As far as farming goes, the more “open” it is for an average player, the less undesired effect it has – and champ trains are one of the most open forms of farming so far (unlike CoF p1 “zerker or gtfo” speedruns).

Basically – due to flippers (and, in some cases, Anet decisions – like with this halloween gift recipe prices) price increase of high-end items is inevitable. Therefore we really need casual players to be able to farm fast enough to be able to catch up.
The only other alternative is to make those overpriced items much more easily available, so people would be able to go for them directly. Nerfing the trains themselves, without addressing the problem, in the words of a famous tactician “won’t end well”.

The increase in direct damage is also mitigated by Armor values of the target. If you did 200 damage to a target without any armor/toughness and dealth 120 damage to someone with enough armor for 40% reduction (I think this is easily achievable) then when your power/critD increase by 20% you will do 240 damage to a target with no armor (40 points of damage increase) and 144 damage to someone with 40% reduction (24 points). Those are just randomly thrown out numbers, but most people who use buildcraft look at the potential damage only and don’t compare it to targets armor. The higher the targets armor the more of that damage would be mitigated.

Percent damage increase would still stay the same.

And yes, currently ascended gear favours direct dps builds the most, with bunkers far second and condition damage almost completely ignored. This increases the already existing problems inherent to the combat system even more.

Tho… If one item yields a 5% increase… What would a full set do?

About 20% damage increase and 2% more damage reduction for pure zerkers, with more tanky builds getting about 7-10% offense increase and 3-5% better on defense.

The impotence of casual players

Astralporing.1957

Ascended Gear was implemented (if I am correct on this) for those of us without a spare 520 USD to drop on the Gem to Gold Conversion system so that we would have enough to buy a Legendary Weapon.

Ascended gear was implemented because exotics were a joke. Within the first month, even the first week of the game, “dedicated players” (what ArenaNet called them), exhausted the game’s content, had full exotics and were left with nothing to do.

And? The first ascended weapon i saw was three days after implementation (crafted. Those from drops were being shown in LA on day one). And i am pretty sure there were people that did it even faster. The so called “dedicated” players (so called, because they are not really any more dedicated to GW2 than many other players that do not blow through content in days) cannot be used as a baseline for content, because doing that makes sure that 99% of the players will get kittened by it. And the people the content was designed for will do it much, much faster than designed anyway. As it happened in this case.
And the exotics weren’t a joke. They were a good implementation of the original plan of people being able to acquire best stat gear as soon as they hit level 80. In fact, they were a bit harder to get than in the original design idea.

You forgot:

  • Enemies that can’t reach you, go invulnerable. But they can still hit you. Thus defeating the point of ranged combat.

This is great, I’ve never seen someone pointing that out. What you mean is that we should be able to climb on some cliff and shoot down on poor bosses?

That happens not only when they can’t reach you. It can also happen if they have a ranged attack and you’ll keep hiding behind walls of reflection (or similar mechanics) for too long. Even if there’s a path to you they could take. In fact, with some slow moving attacks it is possible to trigger it by just strafing left-right. I assume that invulnerability kicks in when mobs are being damaged, but themselves are unable to hit their target for longer than a certain preset time.
Happens quite often with harpies in uncategorized fractal.

People always complain about ‘exploiting’ in dungeons, but every time you ask them to elaborate on the ‘exploits’ they’re witnessing, they usually say things like: stacking in melee and skipping mobs. Those are not exploits. They’re tactics.

Except that “tactics” when stacking in melee causes enemy to not use some of its abilities is an obvious exploit…. (like Spider Queen in AC for example)

Nope. if an enemy has some abilities that are designed to not work in melee range, then using that to your advantage is also part of that mob’s battle design.

If that is true, there’s no need to stack in the corner, you could be fighting the boss simple in the room from melee range.

Well, you can. it’s still easier than going range. And while hiding in the corner is an exploit, it is not an exploit for melee, but for line of sight mechanics. that spider boss can use her abilities just fine, it’s just that due to LoS shenanigans you can avoid attacks from the spawns.

Since a ranged characters actually are at risk in other situations, increasing that risk would be adding a positive to an existing positive.

We’re playing semantics right now but you cannot add more risk to nothing, you can add just risk to nothing.

We don’t need to play semantics. Anything bigger than zero is more than zero. And of course ranged is not zero. Quite often it’s even more risky than melee.

Answer (to the title/opening post): No thanks.

So let the economy continue to inflate and Zergs n trains just dilute zones.

Economy inflation is due to disproportion of the material wealth drops (items, crafting mats etc) and gold income in this game. To slow down inflation you need to increase the first part. Generally, farming usually results in price drops. Price spikes are the result of sudden supply/demand changes (supply – when some farm gets nerfed, and demand – when a new content is introduced that asks for grind, as was in case of ascended gear). Longterm inflation on the other hand is the result of slow acquirement of wealth in the hands of a tiny already wealthy minority. Lot of those people are not even farmers, and most of this gold does not come from farming.

To slow it down, people need to have reliable methods of obtaining items they want through means other than TP and/or heavy farming. Unless this happens. no amount of farm nerfing will change the situation.

Ascended vs Exotic...Where's Anet's Love?

Your complaint is the reason that most intelligent players are not falling all over themselves to craft Ascended weapons….

couldn’t help but smirk at this comment. Its exactly how I felt when Ascended got released. realized its may be a whole 2-3% increase from exotic stats (didn’t actually do the math) and after seeing the apperence just proceed to throw all my current materials in the tp for some nice shiny gold.

You should have done the math. The fact that ascended do not offer too much for condi players is not because the items themselves don’t increase stats that much, but because of problems inherent to condition builds in general. Yes, they offer the most to dps builds, but even pure bunkers will find ascended gear to be a significant improvement. And of course, in PvE, dps still is the king,

Champ farming makes it such that no other way of playing can keep up.

TP flipping is still the best way to make gold. Champ farming doesn’t even come close. And it is not as good as you might think. CoF p1 running before the change was actually better as far as gold was concerned.

Silver Doubloons: a year of /ignore

Design flaw? That’s a bit of a hyperbole don’t you think? Why in the world would you need alts? You farm them just they way you farm lodestones, or upper tier mats.

No, you don’t. Lodestones and upper tier mats drop from endgame mobs and champ boxes. And they have far better drop rates.
The only way to “farm” silver doubloons with drop rates is by using an army of lowlevel alts camped in jumping puzzles – a single alt can get you one-two doubloons per week.
You can also farm certain loot bags, but even the best ones contain doubloons at a rate of less than one doubloon per whole bag stack.
No, reliable farming of doubloons does not get even close to reliable farmings of lodestones. Which has the visible effect on the price.

The only reason 250 doubloons cost 500g is because someone with 500g WANTS THEM MORE THAN YOU DO.

No, that is one of the reasons, but not the only one. The main reason why they cost so much is extremely low supply. Precursor-level low.

And changing stats is not niche. I wouldn’t even be considering Juggernaut if not for it (i consider it rather ugly), and would be content with my ascended hammer.

Sounds a lot like Capitalism vs. Communism.

True. It’s exactly that. I’d like to point out, however, that in real life, pure capitalism (and that’s what we have on GW2 market today) turned out to be completely unviable – as unviable as communism was. There’s a reason why socialist movements in western countries are either very weak or completely nonexistent – it’s because a lot of what they wanted has already been implemented, leaving only extremely radical avenues for them to pursuit (and most people do not like radical ideas, for very good reasons).
