They are very time-consuming this year than they were before. The PvP one is the worst which I’ve decided to just do off and on throughout Wintersday. Spending 12.5 hours across 25 days is more palatable than spending it all in one go.
They’re working on the bugged meta chains. As far as the Pendant of Arah, it’s that much due to how few people actually run the explorable. If as many people who did the world bosses on a daily basis did the Arah dungeon on a daily basis as well, you’d see the price drop considerably.
They’re likely using staff as they had it equipped for swiftness and didn’t want to go through the hassle of swapping scepter/focus in and out. If they’re camping on staff the entire time, that’s another matter.
So long as the new dailies added are zone-specific, I see no issue. I’m still hesitant about additional dailies though.
Any ideas how to resolve the issue I attempted to fix with the first suggestion other than doing region-specific daily events?
500 sounds a lot, I know.
But just do Bell Choir. Two~three rounds, you’re done. Two or three rounds! That’s all it takes. For you. If you have read OP’s post, you would see that he is averaging one correct note per two songs. That’s not even 1/100 of the rate you are speaking about.
If he’s doing that then he’s not even lasting a 10 seconds into every song and getting kicked out. If Anet made it so that people who had this issue could get their achievement without grind, imagine how it would be for everyone else.
/shrug
I don’t know if my instance is bugged but people started leaving and are not coming back in. I’m now here all by myself and it’s going pretty quick. I guess just hold out until it’s late and see if you can get your instance to empty out.
Grind? You mean the infinite achievements?
It has to do with the drop. If you drop and wait a second, you’ll be fine.
So if I just wanted to spend the gold how much would it take to make a set of heavy acs armor, what would I need to buy, what would I still have to collect?
Heavy ascended can be crafted for 359 gold if bought using buy orders or 374 gold if bought using sell orders for all of the basic components and you craft everything yourself.
I just wanted to let you know I’m going to try to gather this feedback and write up a report about what is being said on the new daily system. There are a lot of different opinions being stated, and in some cases they may be directly opposite one another. However, I’ll do my best to amass all the thoughts you’ve shared and pass them along to design leads to give them a solid point of reference on this subject.
I posted suggestions which are a compromise between the old and the new daily system. I’m not sure what it would take to program the second suggestion I listed though while the first one could use more work.
Can you enter WvW or Heart of the Mists?
Now if the could incorporate that into Dungeon Master and other checklist achievements then I’m sure some people would be very happy.
Yeah, me too. I got sick of it after the first year when we had to do it multiple times with no variations other than the type of toys we fought.
I don’t love guitar hero but I love bell choir. So, I’ll continue to play it and be happy ANet created it.
You don’t like it? Do something else.
I don’t like the pvp mini game but I don’t moan about that. I just don’t do it.
The problem is that he needs to hit 500 notes to complete the meta and get the mini.
It’s 500 because there are 50 notes per song. I don’t remember a blue ring so I’ll have to double check in that.
Edit: Ok. For some reason I was thinking it was brown. I only just started working on the infinite for this one last night. What you do is let the orb get to the blue area and then hit the key when it kind of pops. It’s difficult to describe as I know the tunes and just hit the keys with the rhythm.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
I got it in 2-3 rounds which is less time than it took to do one full run of Toypocalypse.
It could be that you do not know when to play the notes. There’s very little reason for there to be lag in that instance.
A perfect match is 300 notes played correctly. You get that achievement very quickly.
He was with Anet before that announcement so he’s not a part of it.
Randomize achievements across players so not everyone has the same ones.
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it alleviates the crowding in zones, but on the other it discourages organized guild groups from knocking out their dailies together.
Although I have never done dailies with guildies, you do bring up a good point.
OP, good thread and I do like your suggestions.
Yeah. It’s was all that I could think of at the time. How many people do work on their dailies together? If that suggestion is considered, it may come down to how many would benefit from it versus those it wouldn’t. Maybe only have two variations on a given day may still alleviate map congestion while giving players a greater chance of doing dailies with their friends.
At first, I was surprised there were so many people that actually preferred the new dailies. The rewards I get: the new rewards system is more enticing for many people. No one is complaining about that. But the actual mechanics of the new dailies? People really prefer having obnoxiously specific tasks?
…but then I noticed that a significant portion of the posts in the thread in support of the new changes are largely the same people posting over and over again telling everyone that they’re playing the game wrong.
Also, I just logged into my lower level characters today, and did not receive the login reward on any of them. It was only after I logged into my 80 that the chest showed up. Is that a bug? Or does the login reward only appear for level 80 characters?
If it’s the latter, that’s yet another unfortunate aspect to the new daily system.
Not so much about telling people that they’re playing wrong but more of what Anet’s intentions of the daily system are as stated in their blog posts. People are still able to play however they want. This hasn’t changed; only the AP rewards from doing the dailies.
January 13th.
Infinite achievements do not count as well as the ones in the home instances. Only the ones within Queen’s Pavilion count.
For those who have not seen this yet, clicking on an achievement tends to give more info about it. When you click on the meta achievement, it gives a checklist of the 11 achievements that count.
Mesmer is more support than DPS when compared to other classes. If you’re looking for full DPS, then warrior would be your best bet. Other classes do good DPS as well while providing various supportive roles. I suggest trying out a bunch of classes in Heart of the Mists (PvP lobby).
I’m against going further and making them region specific as that detracts from Anet’s goal of getting people to go to various areas of the game and brings us even closer to the old system. I believe this is why they introduced zone-specific events achievements with this update. They want players to go to other areas of the game which are often neglected. Targeting a specific zone for the entire daily, rather than just a specific avhievement, is probably a better approach.
We’re not going to have things be like they were before the update. We’re also going to have to understand that Anet is using the daily to get players to try out other areas. This was why I made the suggestions as I felt they were an equitable compromise.
My main issue with these specific dailies is needing to do 3 for the 10 AP reward.
Either more daily choices or less specific daily choices.OR
Remove the 10AP Dailies reward and instead give (1 or) 2 (or 3) AP per Daily (with max of 10AP per day)
That would feel more like GW1 Zaishen missions.
Your issue is resolved with my second suggestion as you can do all of this while playing in a specific zone. Adding more choices will bring us back to the previous system deviating from their intention at having players experience various areas of the game. You’d still have to change your play style but at least you’d be able to play naturally within a zone rather than hop maps.
The updated daily system has been out for a few days and the majority of us have gotten the general feel for what it’s like. There have also been many complaints from some players for various reasons.
A couple of the prominent complaints are:
- Difficulty to do zone-specific events due to number of players also trying to do them.
- Achievements cannot be gotten naturally and often have players hop to various locations in Tyria to complete them.
Suggestion #1
Randomize achievements across players so not everyone has the same ones. You can randomly assign players into achievement groups so that this way players are not struggling to get credit, or to find, events in a specific zone. Maybe four variations of achievement allocation in any given day would be enough? This has been done partially with monthly achievements as some accounts have had to do fractals while others have not had to.
Suggestion #2
Group all achievements so that they can be completed in a specific zone. The purpose of having players go to specific areas would be fulfilled while also not allowing players to feel like they have to hop all over the map to do their daily. You’d be altering their normal routine by having them play on a specific map that day.
Some zone specific daily achievements could be:
- Champions whether generic or specific
- Jumping Puzzles
- Mini dungeons
- Explorable/Story Dungeons
- World boss
One other suggestion that I want to make is that if a champion or world boss is included, it must not be one from an event chain that can easily be broken. I’m looking at Ogre Wars and the Dredge Commissar specifically.
I believe that these two changes would be a decent compromise between the old system and the new. Players that for whatever reason want to focus on PvE achievements only will not feel like they’re doing a chore while also getting them out into specific zones.
Example:
- Complete 5 events in Diessa Plateau
- Gather from 10 ore nodes in Ascalon
- Complete a jumping puzzle in Diessa Plateau
- Defeat Rhendak the Crazed
Suggestion #3
Make the event achievements region-wide but require 10-15 to be completed. Include Heart quests this way it encourages players to do map completion.

I always wonder about people that always brings up the whole “Play as you want” thingy.
Where would you draw the line?
Should I be allowed to sit around in DR and chat all day and get everything in the game? If not, why not? Maybe that is how I want to play? Shouldn’t I, based on your adamant stance on the play as you want statement, be allowed to do just that and still get everything in the game? This is a disingenuous argument and you know it. And you’re doing this on purpose to try to lessen the legitimacy of constructive criticism. People are asking to view A vista, not one in Kryta or do 4 events in general, not just in Iron Marches. The amount of effort to obtain rewards has not changed (only the location said effort is taking place in )whilst still allowing people a choice. It’s a completely reasonable compromise. But you’re being purposefully hyperbolic and trying to equate things that are in no way shape or form equal.
The purpose of the daily system is to get people out into other areas of the game. If people want to make the daily system be some sort of checklist resulting in them being chores, then that’s entirely on the players. Just about all of the rewards from before were removed and sent to the daily login reward system. Players that want to do the dailies are rewarded by the new loot rewards that were added. Those farming AP now only have to do 3 achievements to get 10 AP.
Players are not being forced to do daily achievements. The achievements are all optional. Also, please don’t do the whole “well the game is optional” statement as it’s not an argument and doesn’t change the fact that the daily achievements are optional. You can adjust your play style if the individual rewards or AP is desirable to you. If you don’t want to get the AP, luckily there are very quick and easy achievements across the three game modes to minimize how “out of the way” you have to go to get AP.
Players can still play the game how they want like before. I’m starting to think that players do not understand what “play how they want” really means and instead think it means “reward me how I want”. They dislike that they’re forced to go to specific areas for the daily. Well, the achievements in the WvW sections have you go to, you guessed it, WvW. It seems none of them took the time to read what the intention of the daily system was in that article from January 2013 and also their blog recently.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Or the bug was that they came from the gifts.
It’s pretty easy to know which achievements count. Click on the meta achievement and it lists them.
Infinite and Warming Grawnk’s Heart do not count. Only the achievements from within Crown Pavilion count.
Grawnk and Star of Gratitude do not count.

Talking to the grawl NPC also gives you a hint and he has an icon on the mini map.
From the looks of this: http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/ArenaNet-Reviews-E255820.htm , It is pretty bad over at ArenaNet. They seemed to be doing everything that that video has described. I don’t blame the devs anymore. I wish I never called them lazy. I do, however, blame the incompetent management.
People are more likely to complains/flame than praise. You’ll see the same things at many companies profile pages on that site.
Does not make their concerns any less valid just because they are more likely to voice their opinion. Very rarely do people spout off when everything is going well. It’s only when things are in need of serious attention do people start making issues about it.
I gave a more detailed explanation after that post.
I stuck primarily to the quaggan path as it was easy enough to essentially do it on auto. I’m not sure exactly what caused me to lose health but I’ve ran through it quickly without stopping like on all other times and for some reason as I get to the peppermint platforms, I find myself with almost no health. Luckily it’s very infrequent.
Synchronization Issues
- Snowflakes sometimes break apart out of order before you get to them
- The entire snowflake path will already be up rather than spawn as you go
- Skritt ice attacks occur immediately when you’re able to jump past the last boulder rather than right before
Lag
- Jumps sometimes do not register and you just run off platform
- Jumps sometimes register as a shallow jump
- Boulders sometimes stop briefly
- Sometimes snowflakes do not graphically load on screen while you can still jump on them if you know their location
Bugs
- Dropping down, dodging, or jumping onto the candy cane bridge after the presents sometimes causes fall damage as you walk down it
- Sometimes you lose more health than you should as you’re jumping across the snowflakes and end up dying when you were going full speed through them
I did a full run at around 8:10pm PST on server 64.25.33.74 and observed all of these on that run.
I’m running on the lowest graphical settings except for player model limit and player textures which are both maxed. I never saw these issues last year and even on the same settings.
Attached is a screenshot of the snowflakes breaking apart out of order. Luckily I was able to catch it while jumping.

Zhaitan corrupted himself and now he’s his own minion.
I’ll also add that it’s exotic or higher as I got credit for ascended refinement.
I feel that to be a better system as it doesn’t reward check in log out behaviour and more rewards actively playing.
Believe it or not there are people who have such busy lives that on some days they don’t have time for anything but logging in saying Hi to game friends and logging out and even that might be cutting into time they have to little of. I love the new system for them, they aren’t losing out on the 1 currency that can only be gotten 1 way, Anet IMO was thinking of all their players not just the dedicated able to play every single day player. Thank you Anet for giving them the chance to get Laurels too.
I don’t think you read my whole post, I was saying specifically because I don’t play every day that the other system worked better?
If I did decide to login on any given day I could always complete my daily for a laurel ,now there are cases where I have to wait up to 7 days to gain another. Similarly I could technically just login and do the monthly in a day getting 10 laurels each month for one day now there is an extended barrier on my ability to do so.
Separate issue but by all means login and say hi to your friends but if you don’t do anything you don’t get anything. I feel you were attempting to use the “I have a life” flawed argument to try and make my stance seem invalid.
Guesstimate how many days of the year, on average, that you would not be able to play the game. After that, calculate how many laurels you would get under the new system keeping in mind that you get 35 every 28 days and a 20 laurel bonus (still speculation) if you choose it. Compare what you would have gotten with the old system.
The above is regarding quantity. Unfortunately frequency is something you’d lose out on if you only need a few more at a given time.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Hah. When I saw the thread title I was just about to suggest doing that. Everyone should have more than enough from opening presents.
The story is much better than it was in Guild Wars
You, sir, have no idea what you are talking about.
I do. I’ve recently replayed through all four of the story lines and found GW2’s to be more enjoyable and much more involved.
I’ll make a minor edit that this is all my personal opinion.

Can anyone post an ANet source that it lasts 4 weeks? Historically it lasted 2 weeks and we had empty time I thought.
It’s in their blog post and the release article.
I’ve noticed there is a handful of players…. (about 4-5) who do literally nothing but trash talk every single update anet adds to the game.
Worse yet there’s a handful of players who do nothing but excuse Anet’s poor choices and praise them for everything they do.
You imagine there are people like that, but you are mistaken. The majority of people I’ve seen defending Anet’s decisions are in response to absurd demands from the same short-sighted, selfish individuals who are constantly whining and claiming that they alone possess the insight to guide this game to success.
Think about it… why would people jump to defend Anet without cause? I can’t think of any good reason to explain that behavior, whereas it’s very easy to explain the opposite.
I gotta call bs. I’ve seen people defend the most ridiculous things like DR and the bad camera. Look at the new dailies criticism about needing more PVE options. The knights swooped in and eviscerated those posts out of hand.
There are legitimate reasons for DR and also the claim from Anet that people hardly ever trigger it. I don’t understand why people would defend the camera though as you shouldn’t have to fight with the interface/controls. This isn’t Assassin’s Creed.
Well, they did in fact admit that there was a problem with DR being too harsh. They did fix it. I just used those as examples though. Look you don’t have to agree with a concern for it to be legitimate.
The reason I responded was because you were not treating their claims about DR as being legitimate but as ridiculous instead and then based those defending Anet’s recent decision as white knights. This was because you likely disagreed with them.
You state that someone doesn’t have to agree with a concern for it to me legitimate and yet you don’t even follow that statement.
because I lose the option to get these AP in wvw only, given that the aforementioned system would ever be implemented.
also edited my previous post.
wxp / pvpxp would fall under the table with itedit:
@ orpheal
you never stated that you expand your post.
therefore there was no tell to wait.
You can get your daily in WvW by doing 3 of the 4. You can also do dailies from the other two categories. Many of these can be done in a matter of minutes if your time is constrained.
I’m curious how the profession statistics were generated and how they would be reliably generated for a new chart. For example if I have 6 characters all of different professions, would my account put 1 “vote” for each of those professions into the respective columns? Or would the statistics be sophisticated enough to realize I spend 90% of my time on two of the characters, 9% of the time on three of them, and 1% of the time on the storage mule?
In other words, the profession “count” in cases like mine would need to be weighted.
That is a really good question. I’m going to ask one of the people who works with stats about this. I figured it was “how many of XX profession have been made” as a general marker of “people choose YY most” or “Most players make ZZ as their first profession” but it’d be cool if it was more weighted to actual play hours… and it well may be.
I can say that I’m sure we all make our mules Norns because they’re bigger and clearly can hold more stuffs, right?
)
I had asked John Smith this before but didn’t get a response. I have a feeling it’s due to a previous post of his where these type of releases are very intensive and take time to put out.
10 AP
/15schars
If it’s the AP, then you’re actually better off as you’ll get much more with your dailies than before and for much less work. It’s a bit of a downside for those that used to farm all 12 as people can get them easier, but I don’t really see any other negatives. It may or may not fall directly within your play style but then it was never really meant to. If AP is important for you, then this change should be great. If it’s not important, what are you really losing? A checklist?
I ask this of other people:
Why is the daily important for you now that the majority of the rewards have been moved to be part of the daily login reward system?
Surprisingly, I have yet to receive an answer to that question.
I’ve noticed there is a handful of players…. (about 4-5) who do literally nothing but trash talk every single update anet adds to the game.
