A friend of mine was finishing her crafting to level 500 yesterday and had to buy something like 50g of leather just to make one set of exotic armor which sells for about 10g on the trading post because of bad stats.
Our guild has been stalled on upgrades for over a year because every upgrade is now over 100g of leather thanks to the ongoing drought that did not exist at Heart of Thorns release when other people levelled their guild halls.
New players coming to the game who play mediums almost cannot afford any gear. A basic set of gear on my new Thief cost 100s of gold if I were to buy or craft it directly and that is for the exotics. I ended up having to use cheap “named” equipment to sidestep this cost so that I could play lv80 content.
I am tired of this. Exhausted.
And don’t talk to me about farming. Farming leather in this game is a huge snoozefest, its only implemented in one farm in one map.
Made a new Thief this past weekend. He’s wearing full Exotic Zerker armor that cost me 0 gold because I spent a few hours farming Airship Parts in Verdant Brink. Spending 100s of gold on Exotic gear is not something anyone should be doing.
A bit of hyperbole, perhaps, but it doesn’t really matter. The fact is that hardened leather, a mid-high level “common” mundane material that is used in a lot of recipes in large numbers, costs more in the market than a glob of ectoplasm – an exotic rarity material used in small quantities in high level crafting.
The fact that anyone is defending this as okay or normal is absolutely ridiculous.
The recipes that it’s primarily used in are exotic armor and exotic bows. There’s of course some needed for legendary crafting. There are others but they’re not commonly used.
When it comes to exotic armor and weapons, there are plenty of other ways to acquire them without having to resort to crafting.
Yeah, timing was annoying for some. There were a few that I had trouble with such as the end of the Arah chain. I had to sit there for it’s entire cool down, after a few failed attempts of checking on it, since I didn’t know it was last killed and it dies so quickly.
An entire legendary can be completed within 60 hours if you have the gold for everything and/or completed the time-gated crafting.
Every single legendary can be crafted within 10 minutes if you have prepared all the required materials before. So it literally takes no time at all!
Following same logic – this new car I bought, I just had some money in my bank account, so it was completely free!
Read the OP’s posts so that you understand what my post was about. You’re taking what I said out of context. Thanks.
An entire legendary can be completed within 60 hours if you have the gold for everything and/or completed the time-gated crafting.
That’s exactly what I was talking about.
Not the time-gated crafting (since the crafting itself takes probably just a few minutes – the 24hrs of waiting shouldn’t be taken into account) but the gold farming for e.g.
If you spend lets say 300hrs (just a random number for now) in farming gold to buy a bunch of stuff for the legendary, I do count those 300hrs as invested in the legendary.
So overall it didn’t take you 60hrs, but 360.exaggeration incoming!
By your logic I can “complete” an entire legendary within 2min
1. buy xxx €/$/£/… worth of gems
2. exchange gems for gold
3. buy legendary from TP
Read the OP’s posts as you’re taking my post out of context. They’re talking about the collections being so time consuming.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Can you make a screen?
I don’t understand what a player could have inside 14 Bank tabs.
Simple hoarding. I have max slots and I maybe use a third of them.
If they’re going to pay money then they’re better off buying HoT or PoF. Otherwise they can just play core Tyria for free if they can handle the restrictions.
Episode 3 is probably the most useful with episode 1 being the least. Having all of them allows you to generate enough map currencies to get ascended trinkets much quicker.
Their solution was to give players the means to control the prices which they did when you see that the price is about a third of what it used to be. There really isn’t a supply and demand issue going on at the moment.
I’m not sure where you got this, but I don’t think it’s 1/3 of what it used to be.
I said almost, but after taking another look at it, it’s probably closer to half. Regardless, the price has gone down significantly since they buffed that farm. It’s also become the more efficient way to acquire it outside of buying from the TP.
I will point out that even half the old price is still more expensive than gossamer, orichalcum, and ancient wood combined.
And?
A few days meaning it took an entire weekend when I did all four of them. Please don’t do exaggerations like the OP.
That’s why i started the 2nd part of my post with “okay seriously now” ^^
You can probably do it within a month at less than two hours a day. Progress made isn’t lost.
It’ll be much faster than that for just a single legendary. I only did all four because of how much overlap there is with the collections.
And an FYI, there are plenty of people who play a lot that can get their legendaries wihile having a full time job, having a family, and maintaining a social life. You only lose all of that if you’re trying to get it all immediately but fortunately that time is minimal as far as the collections go.
I doubt that a whole legendary could be finished within 60hrs.
a month may be realistic if you play 3+ hours every day, and unknowingly finished a bunch of stuff before while doing something else. but a casual gamer that plays <2hrs every other day, so probably <8hrs/week, basically starting at 0… nope.I can’t really tell what people with families do, since there can be huge differences. All I can tell from my personal experience with “gaming parents” is, that most of them lied about their online times (meaning they played a lot more than they admitted) and did not spend nearly as much time with their families as they should imo. But who am I to judge.
Since I don’t even have kids yet but still feel like not really having the time to craft a legendary, I can’t imagine parents with full time jobs having any more time. But again – I’m neither entitled to judge them, nor do I know their whole story. Maybe I’m just doing something wrong ^^Overall I understand the concept of legendary gear being.. legendary.
But as I said before I would really like to get the opportunity of crafting some kind of “lower tier legendary”
An entire legendary can be completed within 60 hours if you have the gold for everything and/or completed the time-gated crafting. However, the OP is complaining about the collection aspect. I suggest crafting them first before making judgements on how long it’ll take. Soon I’ll be crafting everything for the 10th HoT legendary so I believe I know what it takes to make them as I have personally done it.
“a few days” = a month, playing 16h a day?
Okay seriously now – I’d like to build a legendary, too, but since i got a job, a girlfriend and other hobbies like sports, i can only play like <2 hours every other day, so I don’t think i will ever be able to. And I’m sure there are people with families who play even less than me.
So for people like me or them it’s almost impossible to craft a legendary while still feeling a little bit of progression in other parts of the game.On the one hand, I’d like legendaries to be a little easier to craft. On the other hand, I know MMORPG’s need a lot of dedication and players with “too much time” who play like 5h+ everyday need an occupation.
It’s a double edged sword.
I’d really appreciate if ANet decided to publish some kind of “light version” of legendaries, easier to craft and with a little less “bling bling”

I did all of them over the course of a few days. They’re not that much of a time sink that you’re making them out to be.
EDIT: Since a couple people are having issues following the thread, the above that I’m referring to are the collections as that is what the OP is complaining about.

LS3 is more worth it because of the ascended trinkets
I purchased because I knew I would eventually buy it and I haven’t been let down by anything so far other than changes made after release (e.g. Chak Gerent).
Sorry but they are not macros. They are bindings….bind (Button1) to use skill1.
A macro is Button1 does 2 or more actions.
Apologies for being so pedantic but this matter really bugs me….the same way that electricians hate the word “bulb” when it comes to lighting.
Something that performs just a single action can still be considered a macro. The means by how you perform the action is what makes it a macro rather than the number of programmed actions in the sequence.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
It’s one action performing one action in the game so I don’t see why it’d be an issue.
Having played GW1 since the beginning, I can honestly say I would do it again if I were just starting now. Not just for the HoM rewards, but because the game is awesome. It is a completely different game than GW2.
I soloed it for the whole seven years until GW2 dropped. I have my GWAMM too.
Getting to 30 points and getting all of the HoM skins shouldn’t take horribly long. Getting to 50 will take a quite a bit longer. Titles are the only thing you get after 30, however. It sounds like you want your GWAMM too, however. It can be done solo. I did.
No you didn’t.
Unless you are telling us you farmed all the mats for the armor sets and never used the traders, never bought consumable title points and so on. And then there are the mini, like you telling us you randomly got everyone you need through bday gifts? Never bought a hero armor from another player? Solo DoA to get a tormented weapon?
I mean ya it’s obviously mathematically possible but I find it unlikely your “solo” is applicable this guy’s scenario. Not unless we all login to our gw1 accounts and dump platinum, materials, minipets and consumables we have banked from years of play onto him, will this guy ever have a reasonable chance at 50 hom and gwamm in the next 1-2 years.
The solo part he mentioned was GWAMM, and as we all know, GWAMM has nothing to do with DoA or tormented weapons… Getting GWAMM solo for an experienced GW1 player is in no way impossible. There are a couple of hard spots but they’re certainly doable…
Right because he specifically separated his play time for 7 years to keep his gwamm solo. Not that it matters because farming 30k consumable points and/or 10mil kurzick/luxon points still ain’t happening in a reasonable amount of time. Certainly not for someone picking up the game today.
Faction points will take awhile but not the consumables. The skele farm will get you what you need during Halloween.
Farm the other map currency and then buy machetes. I average 120+ per run when I open all pods.
I much less efficient (and patient), but even I get 60 without doing more than visiting all the WPs and getting the chests nearby. (there are more, of course, many of which aren’t hard to get)
Yeah. You can easily get that much from just around the camps after their events. But for me I’m unfortunately trying to be as efficient as I can to minimize the number of DS runs that I have to get.

Fixed just 30 minutes ago.
Fixed a bug in which anomaly fragments could be absorbed by the Legendary Anomaly at long range if they were stunned immediately after spawning.
I hope that that special present from Scarlet is a part of it but probably not.
Ok guessing was just different from what i am use to. I also just found out the masteries are account bound. Which makes effort more worth it to. I guess just need little explanation
Would be cool if people could explain reasoning not just call me yo lazy. Everything other then the lazy comment s has help. Thanks for the positive feedback though
The quickest way to get mastery points is by doing the easy adventures which will vary from player to player. All of the strongboxes and insights are fairly easy. LS3 episodes provide a lot of easy mastery points but you’ll have to buy them if you don’t have them.
XP is incredibly easy to get with episode 4 as the leather farm in Lake Doric provides a lot of XP.
What gives the OP the impression that it was nerfed? How many runs do you usually do? What’s the range of rates/run? How many runs have you done since the last major patch?
Well considering there’s just about 40 nodes on the map, I’d consider 15-20 berries a nerf as that would mean some nodes were giving zero berries despite them supposed to give at least one.
This of course assuming the OP wasn’t skipping any nodes or depositing them to their bank by accident and not realizing it.
There’s more than that many nodes so if this turns out to be true, there’s an issue.
I farmed up enough mats for 10 of them and wrapping up getting the mats for the rest. None of those are that difficult to obtain. In fact, the airship oil is incredibly common and I’ve started to trash them.
The requirement to have maxed HoT map masteries is reasonable. You don’t have to do world completion and the unlock is a one-time thing.
Hearts felt grindy. No map meta left me without any focus on the map. Bounty events were okay but felt like any other champ event.
Would it be more accepted if they just removed the heart icon from the mission UI? A lot of what they’re having us do is similar to what we have done in previous missions.
I do just fine with full berserkers running a glint/shiro build. The only times I have issues is with heavy CC or when they get too far scaled up.
Would it still occur if people let the fragments move slightly from their spawns before perma stunning?
We haven’t had a chance to fully check all the edge cases, but right now it seems like once they start moving they can be safely locked down.
Would a possible solution be to have them spawn immune to control effects for a few seconds, while also a further distance out to compensate for that, so that they’re able to move from their initial spawns? Of course all of this pending what you find with those edge cases.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
I wanted to give an update. Fix still hasn’t been found, in large part because we just figured out how to reproduce it (which I’ll explain in a moment). I do want to clarify some points about how the achievement is scripted.
- When the anomaly spawns into the map it sets a flag that says “I haven’t absorbed any fragments.”
- When the fragments spawn in, they path to the anomaly, if they get to it, they apply the Leyline Accumulation Buff, unset the flag, and destroy themselves. (this is the only thing that unsets the flag)
- If the event succeeds, and that flag is still set, everyone who participated in the event gets the achievement.
My suspicion had always been around the pathing of the fragments to the anomaly. As you may have seen in our game, sometimes when NPC can’t get where it is trying to go it just teleports there. It turns out this is sort of what is happening here (and thanks to our QA representative Brett for actually finding this). The actual bug is: if the fragments get stunned immediately when they appear, and stay stun locked for too long, they will just teleport to the anomaly and finish up their scripting.
We’re still trying to figure out why they are doing that, or at the very least, how to prevent them from doing that. I’ll update again as soon as I have more info.
Thank you for the update.

I’m kind of worried with the expansion maps and that there may not be anymore map-wide metas. Granted, these could have just been turned off for the demo, but with how the LS3 maps went, it wouldn’t be a shock. It seems like they went too far to appease the self-proclaimed casual players that it leaves a lot of other players with much less to do.
How long before the PoF maps will be like the LS3 map in terms of active population? One month? Two months? Well I guess we have the regular content updates of LS4 to look forward to in January.
Waiting for the stacks to go away doesn’t do anything. This is like the 3rd time I’ve been stuck on a map that unnecessarily drags out the fight only to still fail the achievement. No fragments ever gets close to it either.
It’s either a random bug or something happens that is beyond the control of the players.
Comparison: http://imgur.com/a/QLwD4
If you’re going to compare map sizes then use the full map and not just what’s available in the demo.
I was on a map that waited for the buff to come off and it still failed with nothing getting to it. So yeah… stacks still don’t matter.
When the devs were testing, I wonder if they were doing so under the same conditions as us with the same number of players.
Not going to get into a nerd rage argument with anyone, just telling you what we did on my map that ended up with a victory. Screen shot is attached below for verification.
You can try it or not, i really don’t care, again not going to argue just saying what we did to make it work.We waited for the 10 stacks to end, when you mouse over it, there’s a timer. When the stacks vanished. We just burned him down and killed him.
This was probably my 10th attempt. The previous 9 attempts were 1 time burns with stacks of his buff still active. 9 times doing the same thing, all ended in failure. We did 1 thing that was different, that being waiting for the stacks to expire and vanish, we killed him and we got it.
Master haxors, master glitchers, freaky coincidence… i don’t know you decide. Just saying it worked for us.
Map IP was: 64.25.38.75:0
Time was roughly 1:28 PM U.S. Central Time.
Stacks don’t matter.
The mastery system itself is great. The only thing that needs to be worked on is making it feel like an actual progression system with relevant masteries. For example, the gliding mastery line felt progressive while pretty much the rest of the mastery lines felt like a bunch of random masteries were thrown in them because they fit a “theme” although they weren’t related to each other.
I could have sworn I did this already and got the achievement way back when ANet first added it.
Did something change that caused this achievement to reset? Or is it because they added a tonic?
This is a new achieve. The previous one you had to do a second event to kill a group of…I forget what they are called before the anomaly reaches them.
This is actually the hidden achievement that a lot of us were trying to figure out. It turns out the reason why it was hidden, and nobody found it, was because it’s been bugged since they released the Anomaly.
Happened twice for me. The most recent attempt a few minute ago had the anomaly starting the DPS phase with 15 stacks of that ley-line accumulation without anything having been near it the entire fragment phase.
Not everything is going to appeal to every player. I don’t see it inherently wrong to require players to experience a little bit of everything that an expansion has to offer when progressing their character/account. As long as there are enough choices where someone doesn’t have to reasonably do a lot of what they don’t enjoy, there shouldn’t be any issues.
If someone doesn’t want to do adventures then there should be enough mastery points elsewhere so that they’re not required to obtain a ton from them. If someone doesn’t like platforming, there should be enough options so they don’t have to get a ton of those which they don’t like such as most commune mastery points and stringboxes in HoT.
Requiring players to walk in lockstep with a developers vision is a horrid way to design an MMO. Arenanet understood this with a strong “play it your way” design principle at launch. Sadly, they’ve forgotten many of the original big ideas so I would agree you are in alignment with the current vision. It’s far better to leave niche content on the side (as in the original GW2) where players can choose to enjoy it or avoid it with no penalty. It was a brilliant idea and would make the game so much better going forward.
That’s your opinion.
I remember some of them took awhile to get. It’s just RNG which unfortunately can be a pain at times. I think the Ogre one took me the longest to get.
There isn’t a legitimate way to do that yet.

ROFLMAO
OP: EOTM is still considered one of the best ways. Personally, I’ve never run it. Couple of suggestions though: 1. Get the guild hall experience booster from the your guild’s GH tavern. That’s an extra 10% for everything you do. 2: Run some sort of food. Bowl of candy corn custard is available at level 10 and that’s another 15% experience from killing stuff. 3. If you’ve got any experience boosters, use them. 4. Map complete the cities – LA, DR, Rata Sum, The Grove, Hoelbrek, and Black Citadel will get you 5-7 levels at least.
EotM hasn’t been an XP farm since they removed XP from WvW quite some time ago.
If you can wait 10 more weeks, the lab farm during Halloween will get you levels fast.
Balth is not Balth but really Abaddon who is trying to get his power back assuming he wasn’t just allegedly “destroyed”.

Do we have confirmation on this? as long as there are no proof or sources that can confirm this info, you’re getting upset on a mere rumor.
It’s a mystic forge recipe to create the armor so you’ll need the actual armor pieces. Actually, even if it was a crafting recipe, you’d still need the actual armor pieces.
This is also backed up by their statement that reforged PvP armor would not work and they’d have to repurchase them.
and level 1 zones as well? Remember, they said this was a stand alone and that newcomers could come play in it too.
So, a friend of mine and I were talking about the fact that PoF is going to be stand alone, and with 5 zones.
So that means a newcomer could start with a level 1 in PoF. If that happens, that means at least some of the zones have to be dedicated to sub-80 characters. And if THAT happens, just how much will be so, meaning how much will be less appealing to the veterans of the game?
It was an interesting conversation we had. What are your thoughts?
All of those are level 80 zones.
Standalone as in your don’t have to purchase HoT. All of the maps are level 80 and there’s nothing else being added for players to level up in. If they pre-purchase, they get a free level instant level 80 boost.
