For those seeing this thread, it got necro-posted and is a year old.

I still wish this topic would be addressed for us who want to duet and have a guild hall and banners. To the people that say you are suppose to join a big guild i say,, that is how you play,, not me. Having it scale or making it like it was before worked fine. Because I can belong to 4 other guilds,, they are the ones I join to raid. Giving me a way to level my own guild like we use to be able to is still something that should be explored. We each pay and play for different things. Why should I not be allowed. i was before then they took it away. I dont want to do big guild things. As for upgrades and there expense,, they are like anything,, if I want to level it up and get them I should be able to. i like being able to have banners to thrown down at events. I want to decorate my own hall.

Summary – it was fine before and they changed it,, just because. Now meet us part way.

Guilds are meant to have many players and not just one or two. That said, it’s very possible to have solo guilds as many players have them and do manage to progress them. Upgrade requirements should not be scaled and claiming requirements are just fine as people have done it with just a party and I have seen players who have done it solo with very specific builds.

I feel that it would require too much work for little gain. Anet would have to re-work all armor sets and costumes to work with that race. There’s the issue about the personal story and living story and it’d be ridiculous to just retcon them in.

I’d go ahead and voice your opinion which you did. The OP has been creating threads like these the past several weeks.

As far as the topic, every game has its flaws. Overall, I enjoyed playing GW2 when there’s new content. Unfortunately, after the last five years, I’ve exhausted all of the existing content so I’m not in as much. That’s bound to happen to any game.

No, it shouldn’t, if ‘you’ want WvW rewards then ‘you’ should play WvW.

And there’s the joke comment of the day.

Before the PiP system, I’ve witnessed more cohesive “WvW play” in EotM than on EBG. WvW players have a problem thinking they are elite players, and that the game type is some sacred mode. News flash: It’s not.

The PiP system has destroyed the population on EoTm, as people that once enjoyed that map are now faced with the choice between getting the new rewards or playing their preferred WvW map.

Running around in a blob or roam ganking players with some broken condi/invisible crutch meta build is about all WvW’s mode is about. Get off your high horse.

The population was destroyed well before then when XP was removed.

Geodes needed for the collection were very easy to obtain. A single map cycle would yield 400+ geodes or players could just spend 20 min and farm the sandstorm for 100+. Much different than crystalline ore where you have to farm other maps for currency and then spend at least an hour on DS which yields about 110 ore on average.

Yeah, it’s about two hours including the time it takes to open up all of the pods. A lot of maps do manage to finisher quicker though.

Ideally you will want to be start the map with 70 keys. I think that was the number I used during the first push to farm ore for the current legendaries. That’s like 350 of each of the other map currencies which isn’t that difficult or time consuming to get. You can get that in less than an hour per map. I average about 1K of TD in an hour depending on meta completion, about 500 in AB from challenges through octovine completion, and about 700 in VB by hopping to each of the camp final metas and by doing the night meta. It’s probably more like 4 hours spent at most for a DS meta.

Hm. Thank you! It seems odd to have it that way, since we’re always told PvE players ’don’t need’ raids. So I always considered that branch optional since it starts out locked.

I’ll see how many mastery points I have left after the last S3 ep comes out, then, and once that’s done I’ll …honestly probably have to pay someone to take me through that escort thing given how raiders feel about their raid wings. But at least it’ll be done after that.

A lot of training runs do that one so you could get through it without having to pay for it. The most difficult part about it is to avoid stationary red circles.

I’ve had no issues getting into a map on NA. I need to farm like 4K+ ore to buy up all of the guild vendor rewards and for the rest of the HoT legendaries that will be eventually released. I have zero issues with the current acquisition method of ore and don’t see myself running into issues getting onto a map.

So, the usual method, then?

  • Squad in 20 minutes early
  • Attempt to taxi to map
  • Pray taxiing actually works
  • Wait the remaining time
  • DIE
  • Pray Megaserver doesn’t boot you anyway
  • Respawn

. . .And there’s zero problem with this?

I’m not in a tremendous rush, so I’m fine just taking a handful of machetes and running to the few pods that exist without the meta, but gathering for the meta should have been updated a year ago.

Also, 4k+ Ore. Sweet mercy, you have my sympathies and good fortune to you. May you get many 10-ore drops to speed you along.

I always went in about five minute til and never joined a squad. If I didn’t see a lot of people spawning on my map, which was rare in my experience, I’d join a squad in LFG on hop over to that map. You may have very well experienced something different.

Yeah, that 4K is going to be rough. I’m just expecting the map to not be as active once the expansion hits so I’m trying to get everything now.

To get spirit shard on core maps from leveling, you need to have all core masteries completed.

To get spirit shards on all HoT maps, you need to have all Maguuma masteries completed which includes LS and raids. Doing the escort in W3 is usually the easiest way to unlock the raid mastery line.

The best way to obtain XP for HoT masteries is the leather farm in Lake Doric. The second best would be Dragon’s Stand.

They have people that test the releases. Some things break between the test server and live servers. Having open beta tests ruins the surprise and honestly isn’t any different than just releasing the episode as normal.

We don’t know for certain if Anet pays for a part of running the server or NCSoft covers all of it. While a kickstarter could certainly help cover some of the costs to migrate everything to the new servers, it won’t help with the long term maintenance costs.

You can leech with participation too, aka semi-afking. Coming back from afk every 5 minutes to kill a single mob doesn’t really help the map either.

Your suggestion would make it easier and worse. It would be going backwards.

While players having to pay for access is a valid argument, how many people don’t have access to it regardless as to whether they have HoT or not? I’m not really expecting an answer as none of us will have one. I believe most of the player base had logged in during the 2-3 month window that the episode was active. This make the paywall issue not as significant.

The total cost for the episode is about 62G which you can make back easily by doing that farm and selling the other drops along with excess hardened leather.

Servers only matter for WvW. Feel free to join any server that you like if you don’t plan to do that.

I’d search for guilds that do RP.

Or you can try – don’t say it is a certainty that you can get enough people to make ANY secondary map successful. That is simply false as I have witnessed time and time again.

Myself and 3 guildmates have run this farm by ourselves successfully, and we’re average players. If 4 people can do it, it shouldn’t be hard to toss up a rainbow dorito and get enough people to run it comfortably. It is not a Dragons Stand meta for crying out loud.

You and 3 guildmates run together and know each other. Apparently you aren’t familiar with PUGs if you think guaranteed success at anything with a PUG is easy.

People who know each other aren’t just magically better at playing together than a random group of players. Fairly easy to see when playing with random guildmates vs random players.

There are a few places where the tone/pacing is off between lines. Like you could tell they must have had the voice actors record the lines individually and then spliced them together to form a dialogue.

Ah. That’s why I never saw it anywhere. The percentages have changed since you last saw then it looks like.

As far as truthfulness, I’m hesitant to trust online surveys. Many can be worked around to manipulate vote counts fairly easily. I’m not saying that you did this but we don’t know if others didn’t for either side. It’s just caused me to lose faith in them if all they do to prevent vote manipulation is by IP.

I’m primarily against mounts because they just look rediculous (referencing WoW) and they add screen clutter. This can make it even more difficult to see stuff on top of the excessive special effects from abilities as well as adding onto CPU load. There’s also a ton of waypoints along with movement speed that can be obtained with traits, abilities/skills, and consumables.

I could see mounts working but only for maps designed specifically for them and to perform specific functions. Like how in GW1, the sandwurms were used to travel across specific portions of the Desolation and the siege devoured was used as a method to deal a lot of AoE damage at the expense of speed. They shouldn’t provide swiftness of any kind.

Tl;dr; If added, they should be used on maps specifically designed for them to handle specific challenges rather than used throughout the entire game.

Yeah. I’ve never seen people use whether there are mounts in a game as a decision points as to whether to play it or not. It’s not likely players are going to magically decide to play the game just because mounts were added.

All other T6 mats for crafting can be gained by just playing the game. But now with h.leather we have to farm in specifically. To make the matter worse, the farm is locked behind a paywall of LS3 Ep4 (considered by a lot of players the worst map of a game and usually not worth buying).
So, again, trying to cure a symptom, not a problem.

Completely agree. And soon Lake Doric will have the same problem as other HoT maps: if you want to do the “meta” (which in Lake Doric will be leather farm), there will be the successful map that you can’t get in and the unsuccessful maps. Terrible game design.

OK, wow. This discussion. So, we already know that they have been working on mounts for the new expac and so they have literally dedicated man hours to a thing that has a very vocal minority in part no doubt because someone there at Anet realized that this could be a new revenue stream from new players as anet has also shown that they tend to care little about vet players in the grand scheme of things as those fonts of money tend to dry up quickly and new money is all they want.

That being said, if they make mounts exclusive to the gem store AND have them confer bonuses that affect movement/battle AND only available to expac owners, then they would have succeeded in making the game p2w. Furthermore they would have successfully made a bunch of people simply leave the game if they did this. For all the vocal people that want mounts there is a much larger base that still feel they are both horribly unnecessary and would frankly detract from the game/mechanics of said game and leave people that feel so many other aspects have been neglected to be even more annoyed that this dev time was spent on this new mechanic even though there has been such strong opposition to it.
So, does that mean that Anet might retool these elements, or maybe not even deliver something that is fully fleshed out? Most likely if past experience has taught me anything. This means that even among the mount proponents there will be a large number that will be less than satisfied and making a stink about them on the forums, further pulling dev attention to essentially a vanity item that will be added to a game to solve a nonexistent “problem” for a small subset of players that already have mobility buffs at their disposal.

In short, mounts are a very bad idea, especially for this series as they have never existed EXCEPT for one NPC in GW1 and a few NPCs in HoT, but since its a bad idea Anet is going to jump on it and run with it.

i did a poll a few weeks ago about the potential addition or not of mounts to the game, didn’t even precise the ’as a new mechanic" but i left the feel of “traditional mounts”

1.6k people voted, that’s of course not enough(you don’t have to repeat it) ,but it was sufficient for me to have an overall picture, as the results were like 40% against , 60% with , now you can refute the truthfulness of the poll, but you can trust me i did what i could to keep it confident.

that was enough proof IMHO that indeed a part of the community doesn’t want to have them implemented, and that they can be really kittened off on the devs, if they do so.

but in another hand, the bigger part will in fact like them as a new addition to the game, and the ultimate argument is that new players can have some very unique visions of what mmos can be , and mounts are a part of it,so love it or hate it , it’ll be useful on the market especially for potential new joiners, so what you’re saying about how that its only the vocal minority that wants them is absolutely incorrect,because their presence will appeal more people to try the game.

now the detractors will have either to embrace it, even if anet goes with traditional mounts or not, or quit the game forever and ever, that’ll depend of their broad-mindedness.

I’m more likely to question the existence of the survey over its truthfulness at the moment.

Yes it is actually recurring with me that I prefer choices in how I play to an MMO experience “on rails”.

And I also disagree that an MMO “is all about” things you must do to earn certain rewards. Imagine an MMO that allowed you to gain one type of currency with ANY gameplay you preferred. Say you could earn it by Open World PvE, various instanced PvE, WvW, PvP, crafting, fishing, gathering, trading, etc. Then you could trade this currency that you earned by doing what you like in the game for any reward that you chose.

I have played the majority of AAA western MMOs as well as several asian MMOs and have never seen as many different currencies as in GW2. It’s a bit ridiculous really.

Well, your idea is just wrong then. I have yet to play an MMO that doesn’t have the algorithm “Do this activity Get that thing” which means you MUST do something to get things.

I don’t get what currencies have to do this discussion at all. Even if there was ONE currency, this and every other game would still follow the “Do this activity Get that thing” algorithm.

I don’t get what player willingness has to do this discussion either. Achieving content that no player will dislike is an insurmountable task. They serve a market; if someone isn’t part of that market, then the player needs to make better choices about what games they play, not the company to try to placate that player with content they want.

My currency example is to show a method where you could allow players to play how they want and all have access to the same rewards. It’s really very simple.

Except the point of the rewards tied to content is to actually do the content that the rewards are tied to.

And many people object to an “on rails” gaming experience (which is the point of this thread).

Then they don’t have to earn those specific rewards. I’m pretty sure Anet doesn’t want to develop content that will get ignored because people banked up “currency” from elsewhere in the game.

True, many people could just give in and do what they don’t like, or could decide not to go for a reward that involves content they don’t like. Or the customers could provide feedback to the company who can then choose whether they want to do something about it. Perfectly valid option.

Which the company appears to have made their stance known based on how rewards have been tied to specific content. It’s a very key method to drive players to do specific content.

A stance which has changed over the game’s lifespan. Legendary weapons used to be only obtainable by buying a precursor or making it in the forge, have gotten legendary journeys, then what we have now.

Alongside rewards being solely available in a gamemode also reward tracks have been added in the last two years for WvW and PvP.

So, it’s not like rewards are ONLY tied to specific content, and it’s not that rewards are ONLY right if available in multiple avenues.
Though for legendary weapons it’s kind of strange to be nitpicky about what you need to do.

Precursors are not the same as they weren’t tied to specific content. You could get them as a drop anywhere of but them off the TP.

The only thing reward tracks provide that can be obtained elsewhere are dungeon skins. This is also different from being able to bank a currency to buy up future rewards.

I was pointing out that ArenaNets stance changed over time, not that the change then is the exact same change as requested here.

Also, reward tracks can also reward HoT map skins and meta achievement reward skins and to some extend anything buyable for all the LW3 currency/crafting items. For example: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mordremoth_Cache or https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Draconis_Mons_Cache

Which is different than the currency suggestion given.
