I’d prefer no more of two of the same class. The problem with limiting it down to one is that it seriously limits how different the matches are when it comes to team composition. The matches would become uninteresting. It’ll also increase the queue time by a lot for those playing any of the very popular classes.

If you are sitting on a point with no action from the opposing team, then your teammates are being killed because you are forcing them to 4v5. And those kill points could be the cause of your losses. You will never outscore your opponents by sitting on a point uncontested.

I tend to make an exception to that for mid. Seeing someone camp home almost makes me wish team kill was a thing.

I completed the collections last year so there hadn’t been much reason to play those maps lately except to gather enough currency for future legendary weapons. With those off the table now, I see no reason to even play those maps. I may still do the occasional TD for the chance of the Chak sac but I’m pretty much done with the HoT maps now.

I also seriously doubt that anyone can make 18-25G/hr in SW nowadays.

The only time that I have had issues scoring points in a match is when my team performed poorly and I was on Ele. It’s also one of the reasons why I don’t like playing Ele much since if my team sucks, I feel useless as a support role. I’d be able to contribute more meaningfully as another class. We probably still would not win but at least I would be able to do something.

I’ll do a follow up to my post.

I consider something leeching if you don’t meaningfully contribute to the success of the event/activity. What people did in SW with the breach event bosses by tagging and hopping to the next would be leaching. In DT, skipping the Zerg to tag multiple events would also be leeching. Although it’s now pretty much a necessity as players camp specific events (e.g. Queen) outside of the Zerg.

When it comes to octovine, I see the entire meta itself as a singular activity. You cannot succeed by completing just one side. So long as players in the Zerg contribute to the mechanics and DPS phase, when they’re at a particular side, it isn’t leeching.

What is leeching is if players go AFK at the mechanics part or after they got their tags in. The thing to keep in mind is that players going AFK occurs outside the Zerg just as it does with people that are in it. Before the Zerg became a thing, you would still have players who would AFK at each of the lanes until the DPS phase.

So rather than go after those that Zerg and call them leeching, go after those that specific go AFK inside and outside of the Zerg.

Keep in mind that in order for something to not count as a pre-order/pre-purchase, you’d have to purchase it after it goes live.

I’ll still pre-order on the basis that I said above but only once all information is available and will only take into consideration what will be available at release. Anything stated as happening after release I will consider as not happening when making my decision.

If everyone did this the meta event would fail.

Not really. On most maps that I have done this, the Zerg participates in the first DPS phase of each octovine and often helps complete the mechanic for each to make it vulnerable. There’s more than enough time to beat the meta without risk of failing. There’s even time for those that were not part of the Zerg to do a rotation around getting their tags in.

Maybe it wouldn’t fail if everyone actually helped with the fight mechanics, but typically the “leeching” zerg just runs to the next octovine and stands there watching others remove the layers so they can attack. Maybe some people help a bit, but there are plenty of people that just wait around for the octovine to become vulnerable, even after they have tagged all four.

I mean I have yet to see an octovine fail due to people tagging every octovine, and I myself have done it plenty of times…but it still seems really stupid. Generally the leeching zerg doesn’t help much with the octovine mechanics, but they still get 4x the rewards of someone who plays the fight as it is intended.

Octovine rarely fails, and when it does, it’s often because there was a troll that initiated the burn phase too early. The thing is, before people did the zerg thing, there were just as many that sat there and went AFK while the few did the mechanics.

You may want to look into just what leeching is first. If the Zerg goes around and participates in each mechanic and then the first burn phase, it’s hardly leeching. People AFK whether they are part of the Zerg or if they were there from the very start. People were AFKing before the Zerg became a thing.

Also, that’s an ad hominem. It has no bearing on whether what I stated was correct or not.

At a very inconsequential rate. You need like 30 hardened leather sections for the exotic insignia. The price also went nearly two years of remaining fairly stable so ascended crafting is not the reason.

In the case of t6, the cause is most likely guildhalls, crafting (medium classes are now useful in meta content, so a lot more of them get geared up) and stat switching. Lot of build changes in that armor weight category (druids, viper engi) lately.

I doubt about the crafting and stat switching. This would not be sudden drops in supply and specific points in time unless the meta changed which it really hasn’t to that degree since HoT released. I’m not saying that crafting and stat switching isn’t contributing but it would be more of a gradual effect than a sudden drop. Due to the cost of ascended armor, and people likely not switching stats back and forth, the effect from these are likely fairly minimal.

I hadn’t thought about guild upgrades. If guilds are all reaching new levels together. which then require T6 leather, that could explain the sudden drop in supply. Or at least one of the potential causes.

I have something better for Anet, It’s prove that this matchmaking is “better” (only for them). I was in red team and Anet won’t tell anything in this thread because they’re aware of mm fail.

In my opinion, if S2 Ranked was working as intended, it should be IMPOSSIBLE for lopsided matches like this to occur in diamond division. 27 – 502

It could be working as intended except the variables it is receiving are inaccurate due to outside factors. Where I’m getting at is that I believe that the no pip/tier loss you saw in divisions before Ruby is what is contributing to the issue. Terrible players can grind their way to Ruby and eventually reach that level. For all we know, the same can be done for Diamond and Legendary.

In order to get lower queues, the parameters used to match people were likely relaxed to a degree. You won’t necessarily get everyone that has the same skill level and definitely at times when there are less people in queue. You may also have players that got carried so their MMR is not representative of their skill level. You may also have players that haven’t played ranked sPvP before so their MMR starts at the default and higher than existing sPvP players.

All of this leads to MMR not being as meaningful because it cannot capture true skill as unskilled players are able to progress through the tiers/divisions with a bit of luck and mostly patience. In my opinion, ideally, unskilled players should not even be in Ruby. They’re creating a bottleneck as they’re getting mixed in to groups with moderately to highly skilled players and causing those players to suffer and driving down their MMR.

This then creates a downward spiral as this increases the likelihood of them being placed with those players in the future. This could be one of the reasons why some players were able to coast through Ruby fairly easily as they got lucky from not getting matched with many, if any, unskilled players. Then you have the unlucky players who did and are now stuck in Ruby unless they grind out so many games.

My personal opinion is that removing the safeguards of not losing pips and tiers should help alleviate some of the issue. I don’t think it would fix it. One reason being that it will just shift the bottleneck from being in Ruby to now being in the lower division. In the plus side though, the matches should get progressively better as you get to higher divisions. I would not go as far as allowing division drops.

Another thing that could be done is to allow the MMR to be affected off-season. I think that it’s handled separately from ranked and unranked which is why I say this. I could very well be mistaken. This should give sPvP players a better means to maintain, and repair, their MMR as you would expect the skill that they show in unranked to be that of ranked. Many competitions let you pre-qualify so this isn’t really outside of the norm. It’ll just need to be tailored to GW2.

What were the other three classes on your team? Based on what I’m seeing, your team comp must have been pretty bad for them shut your team down like that. This assuming that everyone was reasonably skilled.

Ah. Unlike most teams that I fought, you must have gotten placed against one of the ones that knew what they were doing and did it very well.

Ye but Anet said that this matchmaking is “kittening awesome!” I just want to know if the achievment Exalted Legend will be placed in retired achievements or if it will just vanish like the one from previous season but it seems it’s too many for them to just answer this short question.

It’s for this season only. After the current season ends next month, you will be unable to earn it.

I know, but My question is: When I have 4/5 completed Exalted Legend, will it be placed in “Retired” achievements or will it just vanish from Achievements?

I don’t remember seeing it in retired achievements so it may just be removed or put into another section that isn’t visible to the player. I also didn’t play last season as I was focusing on other things so it may be different if someone had made progress on it but I personally don’t think so. If that achievement has tiers to track progress that reward AP, it may stick around. The best bet is to see how the previous achievement (primordial legend?) was handled for those that did not earn it.

There were no afkers or d/c, we were completely outplayed. What you’re saying isn’t wrong as such, so it gives your ideas some traction. But as I said, your over simplifying it, one ele wasn’t going to turn that game around.

EDIT:
Saw you post this in the other thread, so you do know.

Ah. Unlike most teams that I fought, you must have gotten placed against one of the ones that knew what they were doing and did it very well.

Since there’s no video to see how the match played out, all I can go with is the screenshot and how I think the match had played out. Unfortunately you did not go to the next page to show if any of them were on a pre-made so I didn’t comment about it.

You’d be surprised what a single Ele could do on a team with no support and especially one with that many necros. You still may not have won the match but your team would probably have done better. Your team was either not doing enough damage, or they were getting killed before they could.

I was just commenting about what could have been done better and not what would have won you the match. There are too many unknown variables for me to claim that.

You weren’t there so I’ll let you go on trying to over simplify the situation. One ele swap wasn’t going to make much difference.

Well I’m just going off what I see. Your team got completely shut down and ut’s likely not due to just skill level. I saw that your team had three necros with practically no support for them. No, a druid cannot support all three. If your team had more sustain, you may have done better.

Considering the personal scores of everyone was very low, I came to the conclusion that they the other team did not need to cap points often. Most of their points probably came from kills. Based on the time remaining for the match, they most likely held on to two points the entire time and possibly your home point for an extended period. The reaper probably was the one to kill your lord. Your team was also likely unable to even get kills as well.

How many different classes should one play?

At least two. The reason that I suggested Ele was because it became apparent, at least to me, that the other team capped the points early on and likely never lost them. With a more balanced comp, and better rotations probably, they were able to shut down your team. If you had an Ele, you could have provide support to those necros.

It’s my belief that some (not all) of the issues that people are blaming MMR for is actually due to poor group compositions than their MMR scores. While players do have some control over their MMR, they have even more control over the group composition. Yes, there will be those that will not switch to another class but that’s really no different than the player that insists on repeatedly going for lord.

I agree its a factor but switching to another class is not just a snap of the fingers. It takes hundreds of matches to actually get good on a class.

While that is true, you’re still in a bad position if you group lacks a class or composition to remain competitive. I you gave four reapers and 1 DH versus a given balanced team, the reaper team is better off have some people switch out even if they may not be highly skilled at another class.

that doesnt explain why it wasnt mixed up? so basically you are saying the matchmaker said: “well let’s put all those player that are a littlebit better together vs all those players that are a littlebit worse” – makes sense….

Actually, it does. There’s a pip range when it comes to group players for matches. This crosses between divisions. The only way that someone that is lower that that pip range is if they are in a pre-made.

If you’re referring to which group got which, perhaps someone could explain that as I would have to go look up the reason. It could be that the team with the emeralds had a pre-made when the sapphire team doesn’t. I think pre-made teams are valued more in the ratings.

For those of you taking losses after losses, please post screenshots showing the team compositions of both teams for the matches. The hope is to see if there is a pattern in these losses such as if it is poor team compositions.

One suggestion I could make for this, if it turns out to actually be a factor, is to not allow more than two classes onto a team unless they are within a pre-made group. So if two Mesmers are in a pre-made group, they will not be matched to a team that already has a mesmer. If a team will have more than two Mesmers, additional Mesmers must be within that specific pre-made group. This forces better group compositions to a degree without removing the ability to stack certain classes if players feel a need to do so.

The leather tier in question isn’t used for ascended crafting other than the handful for the exotic insignia.

Sound exactly like it is used in ascended crafting then.

At a very inconsequential rate. You need like 30 hardened leather sections for the exotic insignia. The price also went nearly two years of remaining fairly stable so ascended crafting is not the reason.

30 × 6 for an armor set.

Lets not forget that prior to HoT medium weight classes were not very welcome in groups. Not many people bothered making medium ascended armors.

It was implied that it would be 30 × 6 for the armor set when I said insignia.

The prices did not start to rise until the mid of January of this year. This was over two years since ascended armor crafting, three months since HoT, and two months since the first raid.

If you looked, you would see a significant amount was bought up. For the month of December, supply on the TP was hovering in the millions. Then around the 12th of January, roughly 90% got bought up. Then on March 7th, another run was made to buy up the leather.

If it was because of ascended crafting, or more people choosing to play medium armor classes, the change would have been more gradual instead of a sharp spike within a day or two period.

They could have been bought up in anticipation that legendary armor would use them for the tier 2 collection. Or there’s the legendary shortbow that may be released which would use them. Or it could be none of those and something else entirely.

Business strategy and fairness are 2 totally different things.

Company offer a discount for the “veterans” would be fair for sure, but they know that the majority of the current players would buy the expansion no matter or what, so why offer an discount?

They only problem I saw was that they didn’t give any bonus at all to the veterans while new players would get the core game for free, they should have given the extra character slot before all the “fecal storm” :P , that way players would have the illusion of a fair trade.

Again, companies do not have to provide bonuses to every player segment. Since the 90’s, companies have offered new customers exclusive deals. Keep in mind that the game went F2P well before HoT came out.

What bonuses are F2P accounts really getting? All that they’re getting is the removal of the restrictions which had minimal impact on their play experience. Besides, if existing players want the same deal, they can apply the expansion code towards a new account or a F2P account of their very own.

You can be greedy if you can deliver the content, but HoT was rreleased unfinished and underdeveloped with an extremely high price tag ; every aspect of the expansion felt rushed. I’m quite sure they got what they deserved with all the people that left the game.

That’s your opinion but I’m going to have to disagree with it.

Giving discounts to existing players is pointless as they may as well just offer the product at a lower price point. It’s common practice for companies to target new customers with deals in order to get their business.
