Here’s the thing. No amount of changes to MMR are going to improve Ithilwen’s gameplay. If she still plays how she did in the gameplay video she posted, then she’s going to keep losing.

Her team are having to carry her, so they’re essentially 4v5ing the enemy team. She’d be better off playing on an Engi. It’s obviously not going to make her team win, but they’ll stand more of a chance.

She has a disability in one of her hands. Engi might still be a bit much with all the F buttons on toolbelt. IMO she should look into getting an MMO mouse or something.

OK, I now have consecutive loss streaks of 23, 12, 11 and now working on 6.

On the advice of forum members I switched to Warrior. I am consistently getting stomped by 300+ points.

It’s very obvious that the matches are being predestined by the matchmaker and that is really a kitten poor way to make a game.

This is not competition. It is pure favoritism of a small group of players. I’ve taken to thanking ANET for my punishment after each match and asking for another.

People say “Nerf thieves!”, then when they get in a match with more than one thief “So who is switching?”

Well let’s be honest here, there are alot of wannabe Thieves who are really bad. If you have more than one Thief on your team, the odds are pretty high that at least one of them sucks.

Its because they are not an effective point presence. How can you mostly hold 2 points for a majority of a match with 2 people playing a class that can die to random cleaves and aoe quite easily.

Aw, people complaining about your thief? That must suck. As an Engineer I’ve gone through that every time Engi (and now Scrapper) was able to poke his head in the meta.

Always happens, you should be used to it if you’ve played Thief any length of time before HoT. People will always group together and target their hate on a class or build. Sometimes because it is cheesy and not fun to play against, and sometimes just because it is actually op.

Scrapper isn’t actually in the meta. The Hammer is in the meta. The Hammer just requires a scrapper to carry it around.

Yeesh.

Gyros are healing for the Scrapper, AoE CC, AoE damage, and an AoE lightning field.

FTFY, and all passive. This wonderful post-HoT world :^)

Anet, at least put some kind of burden of skill on the Scrapper by having some of the gyro detonation effects tied to the Scrapper manually detonating the gyro. Being rewarded with all these effects for letting your gyro die is moronic.

I am starting to know for sure that a lot of more people are using this build and are defending it in every way and saying they are not playing it.
I have lost belief now in the people commenting on this post that are like you need to do this and this to counter it.
And yes it can break entire teams, specially if you count in server latency, remember this counts for everyone and a small animation cancel in the jumps itself.
And again i just report it, because such a gimmicky thing in a game should not exist and it should be fixed. Till that time i cannot take pvp seriously in this game.

I guess let’s just sit and whine more instead of taking advice and trying to play better.

Short DCs and desertion

How is desertion supposed to behave? I DC’d because I lost internet for maybe 45 seconds and came back for more than half the game (<250 points still) and helped my team win, yet I lost a pip because I “deserted.” Seriously?

I love how people are just now calling broken now that thief is meta. Thief has literally the same amount of evades as it did when HoT came out, but nobody is crying until it’s meta.

I was annoyed with it when I first ran into it, easy enough to deal with usually, if I’m on a class that has the tools I’d need to do so.
D/D thieves are pretty easy to outmaneuver in my opinion.

What does annoy me still though, is staff “five” (why did 5 get censored???), hits like a truck, pretty spammable, and built in evade, I only have so many tools to counter, and even if I do, they can likely disengage before I can down them (assuming theyre good)

You can walk out of Vault. Good thieves hardly use it other than cleaving downed.

Wrong. They use skill 3 to evade as well, and maybe occassionally use the AA. They don’t use 2, 4, 5 because those are all power skills with no condition damage.

Works better with conditions, but power specs also spamm evades as a kind of invul.

If you’re talking about power d/d, lol cuz that build has been dead for like 3 years in PvP.

Necros have been overpowered in PvP since the dhumfire patch(the dark times of gw2).
Thief has always controlled the meta in a way, he isn’t wrong. You couldn’t play zerker anything not mesmer in vanilla due to thieves eating you alive.

When HoT released, thief wasn’t meta and to this day is questionably meta. And look at that, we still don’t have zerker anything except revenant. Even when thief wasn’t meta, we still had bunker builds running rampant for the last 2 seasons. It’s almost like thief isn’t the problem or something.

It’s amazing how thieves and necros spend the majority of their time..complaining.
There are only 2 classes that effectively reduce the build diversity almost to zero in GW2 and they are thief and necro.

1. You can’t go glass on 6 professions out 8 ( not considering the thief),and the 2 that can..still need to play flawlessly to get past the wall of daze/stun/stealth/teleport and insta burst

2.Your build must contain huge deal of condi clear or/and mobility to disengage otherwise you won’t live past the 5s mark as you will get insta condi bursted

3.They completely dominate the roaming worlds with multiple builds, a thief can get away safely from an entire zerg.

The thief has been “meta” since launch, or more precisely the class has never been ineffective for prolonged amounts of time, neither they ever saw huge strings of nerfs…while the necro get buffed periodically ….

Luckily there is warrior with which I can deal with thief and necro …most classes can’t anymore because of huge nerfs

Thief never saw huge strings of nerfs? What are you on? The traitlines to spec patch alone brought like more than 5 major nerfs at once. Do you remember when S/D wasn’t a useless pile of kitten, or when D/P 5 pulse was nerfed because players couldn’t figure out how to not stand in it?

A Mesmer, Scrapper and Druid can also get away from zergs that point is useless.

If you beat both of these classes that kill build diversity supposedly with warrior, I guess we should look at that next?

Edit: Also thief and necro have both seen downtime. Necros were worthless in PvE and very questionable in PvP for the longest time. Thieves were flamed at just for being thieves in PvP for 6 months after HoT. Try playing the classes before speaking.

If guard/dh is so bad off, why am I seeing teams consistently stack with 2-4 DH and win? In my opinion Pro League is pretty much irrelevant to day-to-day PvP.

In day to day PvP, DHs are food. Half the time they’re the better focus target over a necro. Then again weren’t you stuck in sapphire last season…

Let’s get back to the point people, I know scrapper have semi same issue but we will be derail if don’t focus on thief issue.
The build is indeed broken, the ability to be in perma evade and deal damage at the same time is too powerful. Anet has shown in the past that any class with this kind of ability is broken and will be nerf. Hope Anet did the rignt thing soon because we in pvp are crying for balance right now.

Viirus c´mon it is not hard to understand, they cant simple add an item to the game, because classes are to broken with those items….

Anet dont balance classes, they change one meta to a more flavourable meta to avoid staleness on the game play, to add sturdy spec they would have to balance most of the classes using those stats and that is one thing that Anet avoids to.

you seem to misunderstand me..you think i don’t understand..i understand that, just refuse to accept that attack players should hold a 2x advantage over def players..attack players got on the forum here and complained that they couldn’t kill bunker players so anet took the bunker players amulets away mostly leaving a one sided advantage for attack players ..and any time a def player stands up and says we want our bunker amulets back..the attack players get on the forum and try to make fun of us and knock us down, so we give up and they get to keep that one side advantage. by calling us trolls and saying it was to op and wasn’t fun.. just asked for an amulet already programmed into the game to be returned and a horde of attack players jump me..out of fear we may get it back.

Anet also took celestial and mercenary away. But that doesn’t fit this weird narrative you created for this thread does it?

The dude is a joker, the fact he’s using Nomad’s in PVE should have been enough to close this thread already, probably never learned how to play the game in PVE as well, if you need anything else other than zerk/viper in order to survive in PVE you seriously need to l2p.

so you are proving me right..attack build players like the game stacked in their favor..and attack my post because they fear losing that one-sided advantage. what you call health of the game mode is " zerkers and condition spikers holding an unfair advantage over other builds"..because they can’t handle a long battle.

You keep acting like there’s this divide between bunkers and everyone else. There isn’t. Your amulets are right there. Clerics and menders. They allow you to support, heal, moderately attack and reasonably bunker. What they don’t allow you to do is ruin PvP for everyone else by /sitting on a point and causing games to end by hitting the timer with final scores of 80 to 40.

Meh used to have trouble with thieves so I rolled 1. Pretty easy to kill thieves accidentally now that I know what they’re trying to do.

The issues with conditions are being vastly overstated. There only a problem with some few small number of builds and perhaps those Perplexity Runes.

Dire armor is no issue whatsover. If you can kill people in Soldiers you can kill people in dire. If you can kill a warrior in 3k armor you can kill someone in dire. The ability to pump out damage enough to kill an enemy in armor 3k armor and 20K health does not vanish just because that person wears dire.

Perplexity runes are a bit overtuned in comparative terms. As example the one stack of bleed , posion and torment with Krait comes with a 45 second cooldown and only usable with an elite. The fear off nightmare occurs once every 60 seconds. Both of these are somewhat less in damage terms then what one gets off 5 stacks confusuion with a 15 second cooldown and base duration of 8 seconds. Put a person in Krait or Nightmare and it can hardly be claimed they OP just because they wear Dire armor.

Perplexity should be tweaked. Number 4 bonus should happen once every 60 seconds. Number 6 bonus should be 5 stacks confusion on a 5 second duration on a 45 second cooldown. They can be kept in the game, they are just too much bonus damage.

Do that and many of the issues are addressed . From there conditions can be looked at based upon whether or not a given profession has too easy access.

The problem is not how tanky Dire is. The problem is the damage output it can put out while still being as tanky as soldier.

No. I put out more damage in power then I do wearing dire and using Conditions.

I can get a 12k vault on a single attack. I can get 14k using unload. Either of these take one single attack. I can not do that wearing dire.

I never even said that condition does MORE damage than power. The problem is it how tanky Dire is allowed to be while still pumping out crippling DPS in condition bursts.

BTW nice cherrypicking, would love to see you hit 12k Vaults on a dire or soldier player.

I typically roam or small group it up in wvw. What is with 90% of engagements in wvw ending up in opponents running for their life as soon as they get low on HP? Even numbers, outnumbered, etc. It’s ok to die…..

Is it a generation thing? Do us older players that grew up playing Ninja Gaiden or landing the plane in Top Gun accept that games can sometimes be hard and you lose and younger gamers need that instant gratification easy mode? I base that purely on having interns at my work play these stupid games on their phone and saying “oh i need to buy coins to make the game go faster so I can win faster” WHAT!?!?!

I guess it’s sorta ruining the roaming experience for me personally. I get a good fight and as soon as they are low “see ya!” or I get rage whisper “condi expletive” or “zerker expletive”. Appears no matter what gear or build you run you are a “blank expletive”. I guess I like fighting till the end and seeing just how far you can make it outnumbered or experiencing what I did wrong in a fight.

As someone mentioned a few posts above (one of the few who apparently has any idea of what balance is in a game and that it involves more than a direct one for one comparison) condi builds have defensive stats, but they lack in other areas such as mobility, and if you want to talk about imbalance then by far the most obnoxious imbalanced area of WvW (smallscale) is the vast difference in disengage which results in huge differences in a fundamental principles of PvP – risk vs reward, I wonder how many hypocrites we have who play d/p or s/d thief, mesmer, gs/staff ranger, etc..

s/d thief and shatter mesmer have low risks vs high reward? lol

Yeah unless you are terrible, because you can disengage most fights, choose your engagements at will, they are low risk classes for roaming, which is why over the course of this game those classes have been so popular and things like necro or guard have not, you must be new.

S/d thief I would put as low risk low reward. Sure you can run, but good luck having the damage necessary to punch through tanky enemies.

Shatter mesmer I would say is still high risk high reward. Depends on your build. Power mesmer in general is pretty poop, try using a power mesmer vs any kind of warrior after the Adrenal Health change.

As someone mentioned a few posts above (one of the few who apparently has any idea of what balance is in a game and that it involves more than a direct one for one comparison) condi builds have defensive stats, but they lack in other areas such as mobility, and if you want to talk about imbalance then by far the most obnoxious imbalanced area of WvW (smallscale) is the vast difference in disengage which results in huge differences in a fundamental principles of PvP – risk vs reward, I wonder how many hypocrites we have who play d/p or s/d thief, mesmer, gs/staff ranger, etc..

s/d thief and shatter mesmer have low risks vs high reward? lol

My problem with condis is they are supposed to be dot but in this game they are basically bursts due to heavy handed condis and heavy handed cleanses…condis should be more about gaining stacks and high uptime then it currently is

This is quite possibly a stupid thought but I will throw it out anyway. What if protection affected condition damage? Assuming a condition nerf is needed, would that be too much? Not enough? Imbalanced across classes? Unworkable? Be gentle… grin

Well vulnerability buffs condition damage. I don’t see why protection, weakness, and alternative effects (Bulwark Gyro) don’t affect it. Protection could be -20% condition damage or duration, and weakness could be 25% chance to not apply conditions.

Inb4 “omg my toolkit 3 5 stacks of confusion didn’t apply!”, yeah yeah Warrior Eviscerate and Thief Backstab say “welcome.”

I don’t think it’s a problem at all really given how most condi builds are probably a mixture of dire and rabid, and it’s so easy to burst through someone’s armour stat now given how much direct damage we can pump out. You can do some massive stacks of confusion on people with Chrono/Mes (my record is 36 stacks on one person with perplex runes/mistrust and the stars aligning for maximum group interrupts) but if someone face tanks one of my condi shatters, they would probably face tank a power shatter and be dead sooner.

Are you kidding me, “Condition damage has been nerfed” yea ok nerfed so hard that poison and burning were allowed to stack and confusion was allowed to tick passively. Not to mention that vulnerability affects condition damage now, but protection, -damage aspects such as Bulwark Gyro, and weakness don’t.

Easy to burst through Dire? One of the tankiest stat mixes in the game? What are you on??? I would love to see you play Marauder builds if you think Dire is easy to burst through. To see how skewed conditions are vs power, go fight a Dire build as a Soldier build.

Damage done through condition partial shatters FAR outshines damage done through power partial shatters.

I burst through dire/rabid condi builds on my full glkittenter Mes all the time. I also have built with condition removal in mind so I have Inspiration which trivialises a fight against, say, a condi Mes by simply rotating my burst in a sequential manner so that I can ensure removal of a condi burst. It’s significantly easier to overcome the natural sustain achieved from the armour stat now that direct damage has been increased so much. I really have no problems with condi builds unless I have no condi cleanse. I’d say 95% of my deaths are from very high damage short CD direct damage attacks – I so rarely die from conditions even when playing with just a few cleanses simply because I understand how and when conditions are applied.

Also, of all the game modes, WvW probably has the best condition damage balance because its effectiveness scales with the player number and WvW can go from a simple 1v1 up to 30v30. It’s honestly fine and also, my point still stands that conditions have been nerfed to a point where they are completely manageable and it really is so much easier to kill dire builds now.

Inspiration mesmer has no problems with conditions. More news at 11.

Neither does my Daredevil or my Druid. This just in: GW2 has plentiful ways to manage or completely mitigate condition damage dependent on sensible and well considered build decisions (unless you’re a revenant – poor revenants). Add that to your news reel.

Why yes, I am in fact a revenant! And a thief, mesmer, engi, all in the sig you know. I would have been shocked if anyone had problems with conditions on Druid. 13 condition clears every 10 seconds kind of helps in that area. On Daredevil, you must not have had an opponent smart enough to condi bomb you then stop attacking lol.

Fact still remains: Condition is far too effective vs power. Conditions too easy to apply, cleanses don’t prioritize properly, too much defensive stat stacking, and too much power hate (protection, weakness, Bulwark Gyro-like effects). Your solution of “lol bring cleanses” doesn’t add up.

Another thought: Anet made a big mistake adding in Expertise stat without nerfing condition durations across the board. This could have really been a good way of balancing condition builds and their freedom to choose defensive stats. Instead, we just have another useless unnecessary stat that almost no one uses because condition durations were never touched to accommodate for it.

Just remove rune of perplexity and tone down mesmer condition application. Simple fixes that would improve the health of small scale combat SO much, and not affect large scale combat.

I agree, nerf conditions because 3 power burst specs won’t instagib you if they focus right?

Sure condition Mesmer is annoying but decent condition cleansing, line of sighting to prevent sceptre 3 goes a long way. However generally I wouldn’t pick the fight unless I was at a camp or something that needed defending, just a waste of time fighting it as you can be there for 10 mins without anyone really winning.

Btw are you still running base ranger Babou? Saw you the other night and thought you weren’t using Druid but might have been mistaken.

If you mean 3 burst players focusing you, you deserve to die no matter what build you are using when focused by 3 players lol. Although these days that doesn’t seem to be true for condi mesmers and mindless AoE shatter spamming.

If you meant there are 3 burst builds capable of instagibbing a full dire max toughness max vitality any class, please state which ones you THINK they are. The only one I can think of is full signet zerker d/d thief, which is a one trick pony and will probably die to the passive 3 confusion stacks from perplexity.

Well people were complaining about meeting small groups of condi mesmers, thieves and necros, that’s multiple people. Show me any dire build that can take the burst from 2-3 burst builds especially from stealth? I mean I’ve been hit for a good 8k from back stabs with over 3k armour, mesmers hit even harder at the cost of longer cool down.

I know there is no build that can burst anything that has toughness and vitality as minor stats but I didn’t say that so stop ranting about something I didn’t say.

Like it or not a small group of power builds co-ordinating burst will be able to down and keep pressure on the downed far more effectively than condition builds. Add in stealth and you can shut down a lot of condition builds as they need targets to hit so you will be relatively safe with scrapers, thieves and mesmers in your burst team.

I complained about groups because a group of condi users will win over a group of power users more often than 50% of the time due to stat advantage (more vit and toughness stacking) and mechanic advantage (covering conditions is SO easy, confusion straight up broken).

Condition users can also stealth. Condition users can coordinate burst. Have you never met a coordinated group running epidemic necro?

You decided to have a what if scenario and run away with that so don’t place your poor debating technique on me.

Additionally if you (and by you I mean you/your group of similar number) get condition bombed it is 100% your fault if you die. Condition bombs outside of burning are easily recovered from by virtue of being able to cleanse them, usually accompanied with heals. If you’re dying to epidemic necros then there’s really not much to say, it strikes me you’re being beaten by people running their PvE builds.

Cleanses are on far larger cooldowns than the abilities used to apply conditions. It makes 0 sense that covering conditions is as easy as swapping weapons, then oh theres goes your cleanses that cleanses vulnerability and weakness instead of 10 stacks of confusion.

I mentioned epidemic necro merely to reply to your weird assumption that only power burst groups can coordinate. Ever heard of venomshare either?

This falls closely in line with how strong I see the build. Kind of an easy rank up build.

Believe it or not, but builds don’t only need to be nerfed if they’re powerful at top levels of PvP. If there’s a build that steamrolls new/inexperienced players without requiring any effort, that’s also bad for the game. It’s the same reason turret engis needed to be nerfed. Even if it can be countered at high levels of play, you discourage players from even trying to PvP when they see other players getting rewarded for faceroll behavior.

This build is nowhere near as effective as Turret Engi was.

It doesn’t have to be, but it was effective enough for people to hit legendary with it last season. =P

So? Reaching Legendary is hardly even an achievement.

According to the people who frequent these forums, there are no achievements possible by playing GW2.

This is along the lines of what I’m getting at. I hope next patch it is fixed. My dream is that they fix bandits defense as it is the chief source of thief near immortality for the good players saving them in every emergency.

Why? 15s stunbreak while warriors have Outrage every 10 sand Zerker mode every 15s, Druids have CA every 10s, Invocation Revenants have legend swap every 10s, Tempests have 4 20s stunbreakers in the form of overloads, but thief 15s bandits defense is too much?? 1.5 second block is too much?!?!? Single target melee knockdown is too much?!?!?!?

No build should be a free rank up. Period. A player who falls in the bottom 10% of people playing a build like this to get to the 75% of players in rank when he doesn’t deserve it will be the result. Builds with a skill cap this low should stay in emerald if not amber. That is my point.

DHs, Scrappers, Condi Mesmers, Condi Necros (RIP mercenary amulet) would like a word with you then.
