RIP City of Heroes
The players who complained when the TP changed to matching low sale and not high bid were speedrunners and farmers who want to dump their loot for quick coin on the TP between runs or waves. It certainly weren’t the so called TP “Barrons” or self identified uber-flippers. Actually several of them applauded the original change and objected to the reversing it back to the “old defaults”.
I think it boils down to that if sellers are being charged for posting, most aren’t interested in taking a chance that the item doesn’t sell quickly. I know it seems crazy but it seems that a lot of players don’t want to take that risk. They want the seemingly sure thing of selling at the high bid rather than match or undercut the current low sell price and simply wait a day.

As long as you never expect anything extraordinary then you can’t get disappointed.

It’s easy. Tell your friends and anyone considering GW2 to spend their precious money elsewhere. Even if GW2 is at 50% off, it’s not worth the experience of being tossed to the side for weeks, even months, whenever there’s a problem
And this is the problem. I’ve been playing for nearly two years and NEVER had a connection problem or excessive lag. I’m willing to wager a large majority of players are the same so there is something unique about those who are constantly experiencing problems.
RIP City of Heroes
52 as well. My friends who play are 52 and 53.

People complain but if they don’t open tickets and provide the info requested by support then nothing is going to happen for a very long period of time. Since this isn’t universal, no matter how many dozen of players show up to complain because if it was universal this forum would be on fire.
So simply kittening about it will accomplish nothing. Just as objecting to any request to test your rig or your internet connection to their server cluster. It’s not their problem if your ISP gets clogged during NetFlix time or some router 500 miles away doesn’t like the game’s packets. But unless it’s identified what the cause may be, including NCSOFT’s own servers and internal routers at the data center, nothing will happen.
So help out and not simply shout about it.
RIP City of Heroes
They had a reason, they had focus groups saying they needed to do this to retain more new players. Sadly there is no way to avoid the majority of it if you are a vet.
RIP City of Heroes
First $10 is 800 gems and 800 gems at the moment is roughly 86.37 gold. Since we can’t sell all 800 gems because we can only ask for even gold amounts, we can only exchange 797 gems. Leaving us with 3 gems. Now it also truncates to gold so we are also short changed by a bit over 5 silver.
Now I have seen players asking to be able to exchange for an exact amount of gems or gold, unlike the old method of inputting what we were willing to spend but the fact they threw one out for the other ticks me off to no end. There was plenty of space if they didn’t list “plans” to include both ways of converting, asking for specific output or inputting the amount willing to spend.
This isn’t rocket surgery. Yet ANet has this modality of A or B and not both. We’ve seen this in NPE, traits, commander badges and the exchange. Maybe they take a simple request, turn it into something complex and then simplify that and what we get is nothing like what was asked for.

The only time it’s okay to buy keys is if you think of them as the occasional scratch ticket or dropping $5 on Powerball when the jackpot is $300 million. If you are lucky, you might win $3. If very lucky you’ll get $10. But if, in the case of Powerball, you are blowing $100s or $1000s because you think you’ll break even or get 5 or more numbers, you’re in trouble.
Keys are grab bags of minor gem store items with the off chance, of a chance, to get something worth the investment. Otherwise learn to get excited over a dye pack or a hairstyle kit.
RIP City of Heroes
If the entry fields were highlighted differently or had 0 in them so it’s obvious which field you erase and enter what you want.
And I also glitch on occasion and press the “Get More Gems” button when I want to click “Buy”.
It’s somewhat inelegant and non-obvious but it was a “quick” fix.
RIP City of Heroes
You flushed the dups and put the rest into your PvP wardrobe.
RIP City of Heroes
The odds at one time was something in line with 1 in 4 or 5 for a scrap and 1 in 40 or 50 for a ticket. That meant on average with a large enough sample that 50 keys would yield 1 to 1.25 tickets and 10 to 12.5 scraps for another 1 to 1.25 tickets. So 2 to 2.5 tickets per 50 keys or 1 to 1.25 tickets per 25 keys, on AVERAGE when looking at 100s of open chests.
But probabilities don’t work that way. Using the better odds of 1 in 4 and 1 in 40, with 25 keys you have a 53.1% chance of not finding a whole ticket and a 92.9% chance of finding fewer than 10 scraps. Those aren’t great odds, roughly a 50% chance, a coin flip. of not getting enough scraps or finding a whole ticket with only 25 keys.
50 keys are a lot better but it’s still a 28.2% chance of no whole ticket and a 16.4% chance of fewer than 10 scraps. That’s still a 4.6% chance of not getting the equivalent of a ticket but a 66.3% of 2 or more; 32.4% of 3 or more.
Now 50 keys cost 4200 gems, that’s worth 510 gold when exchanged. You can pretty much buy any of the available skins including most of the 7 ticket ones.

And I was replying to this quote. I should have included that in hindsight.
After spending 100 of the 127 GOLD coins (aquiring 800 GEMS) it seems that I now have to amass another 23 GOLD to be able to buy more GEMS. Yet I don’t need 400 more GEMS I only need 100. Acquiring another 23 GOLD could take me weeks if not months!
To me reading this it sounds like he was exchanging gold for gems.

Yes but likely she’s in the queue for account issues. While it may be trivial with the information you supplied, the ones before her may not be so straight forward. Don’t think they triage the queue and get the easy ones dealt with first.

Support can take up to three days, more in some cases. Your wife’s deals with account access so expect it to take time so they are sure they aren’t releasing access to it to some stranger.

Since they removed skins from AP milestone chests, it sure would be nice if they added a couple full tickets into them as replacement.
They did? I just got a Zenith skin this last saturday.

I don’t see why and you haven’t been able to explain it. WHY does there need to be a method to control the divide between haves and have not? I don’t starve to death or live on the streets if I was a have not in an MMO. What NEED is not being fulfilled for a have not player if you’re claiming there must be a need to control that divide? I just don’t see it.
Because games work on some shared belief of fairness, that everyone is on a level playing field and can earn success. When some players distort that theory by making considerably more profits via TP than though adventuring gameplay, it breaks the social contract of the game and makes players feel their time is not valued by the game, leading to burn-out.
And besides which, the assertion was that I was “anti-capitalism” which is a real life economic principle that does not apply to a game world. My assertion is that I
m not opposed to it, so long as it’s balanced against the well being of society.
Games aren’t based on a sense of fairness. There are always winners and losers. If everyone wins, what fun is that? Effort is rewarded. Prices will float to the level where supply dictates relative to demand. Few highly sought after items will be priced so only the richest among those desiring it can afford them. That’s as natural and accepted scientific law as gravity.
So unless supply is significantly increased or demand is curtailed because there is something even more desirable, prices aren’t going to change so more can afford them. You can demand change as much as you want, in another thread as this thread simply shows that not all precursors are priced high.
RIP City of Heroes
You can order an exact amount of Gems. Option is on the bottom right of the Exchange menu which brings up a screen where you can enter the amount of Gems you want to buy. It’s been available just before the end of the Halloween event.
RIP City of Heroes
The exchange was never linear, small purchases have always been at a worse rate than buying larger amounts.
1 g = 5 gems
2 g = 11 gems
5 g = 29 gems
10 g = 59 gems
20 g = 119 gems
50 g = 297 gems

When ANet does start to limit RNG, and they have to limit RNG, the economy will be hit anyways, so I don’t really care about that. And the most “prestigeous” items shouldn’t be on the TP anyways, you should earn them, not buy them.
And I would like to remind you all that this is a game. If the economy turns out to not fit this game, it gets removed or altered. The economy as it is now or the current balance of the economy isn’t set in stone.
There are two ends to reward systems. One is reward based on specific activity, do X to get Y and one where Y can drop from doing any activity.
The first forces players to do something that they may not want to do to get Y. This is one of the complaints in WildStar, that certain drops are only available in hard core raids, which makes the item very prestigious. If you are sporting one you must of got it from doing X.
The other, which we have makes it seem virtually impossible to get Y unless you are willing to buy it off the TP, which sinks gold to reduce overall inflation. You can also take your pile of money, buy exotics and toss them into the Mystic Slot machine and hope you get all 7s. You still may not get the precursor you want but that’s what the TP is for, sell what you don’t want to buy what you do (again sinking gold in the process). In this method if you are sporting one you are either lucky or rich.
And yes there is a range of other options between those two extremes for rewards and that discussion is best over on the RNG thread. This started as the counter thread to all the “PRECURSOR INFLATION!!!!” threads that pop up everytime there’s a temporary spike in the price of a popular precursor. Of course this thread’s mere existence enrages those of the “PRECURSOR INFLATION!!!!” mindset.
RIP City of Heroes
While I disagree with eithinan, Ohoni appears to lack any understanding of basic market forces of an open economic system where prices aren’t set by some central authority and where personal wealth is the result of individual action rather than a fix amount simply by showing up. He repeatedly suggests a cap on prices as well as a cap on player income from certain activities as well as an aggressive tax on those that trade in large quantities on the TP.
None of those suggest he’s a believer in laissez-faire capitalism, actually more of the opposite to it.
RIP City of Heroes
One story goes that they added ascended because the devs were surprised how easy it was to get Exotic, either via crafting or opening up the temples in Orr. Orr was suppose to be this big multi-stage series of events that would open the temples up for a short time and then close as the hoards of risen surged back. They really underestimated what a determined large, unorganized mob of players can accomplish if the reward was right.

The problem with the Dev Tracker, and this goes along with the problem with search, is that we can’t see all the Dev responses for a single forum. As Astral demonstrates, we can see all the posts from a single Dev/ANet rep easily enough.
What I don’t understand is why do you think it’s difficult to have a locked topic in the news section where someone posts links to external articles going forward? Whoever handles PR for you should know when staff were interviewed and by whom.
Whoever is doing your social media shouldn’t be revealing exclusives only to those on social media. I admit I’m a Luddite when it comes to social media but I already come to your official forums, why do I need to check your other outlets to get up to the date info?

RIP City of Heroes
Exclusive as in only available at the Gem Shop and when ANet decides they are available at the Gem Shop.
You can’t get it from the TP or by bonking critters on the head and riffling through their pockets.
RIP City of Heroes
I will buy marjory’s dagger and the katana if they ever come back, I’d buy them instantly. The whole point of a microtransaction model is to sell us skins, and yet you refuse.
But… they did come back. Belinda’s Greatsword, Marjory’s axe and dagger, Kasmeer’s staff, Braham’s mace and shield, and Rox’s bow and quiver were all available during the first week of Halloween.
And before that the Anniversary sale and before that during the month of March sale.
The problem isn’t that they don’t come back, it’s that those who claim they want them so badly seem to never check the Gem Shop on a regular basis. Or if they do they hesitate to pull the trigger and then it’s gone again. They then come to the forums to ask when they will be back or why are they available for a limited time.
If you can’t be bothered to buy it when it’s back, in all likelihood you would put off buying indefinitely if it was always in the shop. The whole point of pulling them and returning them for a limited time is to get players off their duffs and buy them.

He knows. Those come with one free transmutation. If you liked some skin you can find in game, you still would have to transmute again and again as you choose to update your underlying armor or weapon stats and those skins don’t come with one free transmutation.

I’m so confused. You “by some hacks?” Are you admitting to buying hacks? Because that is very much against the rules….
Guessing English isn’t the player’s native language and we are seeing a Googled translation.

A plan where gem purchases (with cash of course) accrue points that after so many would give you a chest of goodies could work. You aren’t buying the goody pack directly, it’s just a reward for customers willing to part with cash on a regular basis.
Something like one point for every $5. Gem cards also count toward points. Each chest is better than the last with say the 5th or 10th chest containing a choice of precursor (not tradeable). Then the chest value resets. Something similar to the achievement chest progression, but much better of course.
Thus making it a reward for those supporting the game financially.
Of course I don’t believe any of this paranoia. The code is unified between the NA/EU and China versions and someone found the English text placeholder, that’s all.

I still say their anti-bot reason is a smoke screen. It’s easy for players to accept than saying they didn’t want to stress the database handling the TP.

Per above, I’ve never been able to reliably direction dodge with the “double tap” feature so I set a dodge button on my mouse and use direction keys (that I have on a keypad thumb-stick) for flawless dodging.
Odd it works for me reliably. But I think I’m wearing out those 2ndary keys I have movement mapped to.

MMO means that other players share the same world with you. Doesn’t mean you have to play with them.
That doesn’t mean you should expect the major content to be doable by a single person.
And that’s where the flash mob with swords come into play. I’m not fighting alone, I’m just not in a formal group. Most of my guildies grind dungeon paths, fractals and WvW. I prefer PvE so I rarely see them unless we bump into each other at a world event or at the TP/Bank in a city.
RIP City of Heroes

RIP City of Heroes
I like the flash mob with swords approach that this game has. As it is I think the game has too much required team play. I do understand where the OP is coming from but if this game needs even more teaming then I would be less inclined to play, especially if the rewards for that team content aren’t attainable by other in game means (other than gold).

And exactly that price spike of RLS makes it more unstable than Dawn in that period of time.
During that small period of time, a matter of days or weeks, yes. Over the life of the game, no.
So a year is a small period of time?
RIP City of Heroes
The difference in time is only a minute or two more to avoid being held up anyways by the sell limiter. It’s like speeding between stop lights versus going at a slower pace and making every green. Sure you don’t “feel” like it takes about the same amount of time but it is a lot less aggravating.
