IMO, the LS has been a failure. Poorly written, poorly presented and the current scramble to finally get it over with is long overdue.
The article is right that the living story is not a replacement for expanded content.
I really like WvWvW even with the issues it has (population balance, offense having much better rewards than defense). However, I think they should have avoided requiring people having to visit every building & camp for world completion. They could have used other carrots than an achievement to entice people into that game mode.
Living story was a colossal mistake vs doing a traditional expansion.
It doesn’t appear that they will rectify this error and the GW2 universe will suffer in perpetuity.
Teq doing the Godzilla roar would be laugh out loud great =)
Heck, have some random scrit make the roar and it would be just as great.
Interesting take, but I don’t believe there is enough writing skills done with Scarlett to do that. Though, Scarlet was basically pulled out of an orifice so why the heck not Primordus.
I admit that I would like an honest answer about this:
When Flame & Frost was written/released, did the GW2 writing team actually know that Scarlett was behind it, or was that retconned when her concept came along? Likewise Aetherblades.
Seems to me that several LS episodes have been hastily packaged into the Scarlett plot.
They have said it was the plan all along. I say it was a bad plan, poorly written and executed.
I hope they’re learning that dumping a boring all powerful salad at a nemesis is the wrong tack when there are untapped areas to go exploring.
Sigh…. its still Scarlet. Putting a prettier package on a pig doesn’t change the pig.
The only thing to look forward to is that it will at least be over.
If the Mad King is there, send me too. He owes me money.
Leveling characters is the part of the game I like most. Yeah, I’m sure that puts me in a minority – and it eat my gold, but I do like the journey until the Temple of The Forgotten God.
SBI at 5pm server time every night. We always succeed with at least five minutes left (often a couple minutes more) and we gave up counting the flawless defenses. Show up at least 90 minutes before hand to avoid the cap. If you see the TTS guild tag (dedicated to killing tequatl) in an overflow, ask them if that’s the overflow they intend on using to take the dragon down.
As I expected the typical ‘HEY EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY THE WAY I WANT’ response.
The only one here with that attitude is you. Most people here want PvD removed because it causes people to tag gates, which can be considered a gameplay issue. You just want to keep PvD because you like it.
Hello Mr Pot. Kettle returning your call. There are a dozen different people here that doesn’t remotely make a representative argument when the thread title attracts people who agree with your PVD removal demands.
I want to keep PvD because it annoys the elitists.
Nobody will quit WvW because of PvD and there are much bigger fish to fry than to alter this mechanic.
Anet has perfectly stated numerous times here on the forum that they are aware of this issue but months have passed without a fix.
Likely due to the fact they CAN’T fix them, i wouldn’t be shocked if thats why they haven’t done anything these sort of issues have been in the game for A LONG time…
Easy now, we all know the gem store comes first, Scarlet second and then who knows what else and finally WvW. Our turn will come sometime.
I do believe that doesn’t even qualify as a pipe dream. The fact we have a z axis to play with makes a change like that moot.
It would be nice if the color changed if the same match-up occur consecutively.
PvD FTW :-)
Nothing wrong with it. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.
Aha, it was only a matter of time before someone used that typical shortsighted and nonsensical argument. You realize that not only can literally every form of criticism be waved of by it, but also is it not applicable in this discussion.
Unless you are naive enough to believe that not doing it yourself will stop the enemy from doing it as well?
As I expected the typical ‘HEY EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY THE WAY I WANT’ response.
The entire premise of removing PvD is silly.
PvD FTW :-)
Nothing wrong with it. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.
1. The art
2. The log off button
The only significant thing that she’s accomplished is to prove that Anet won’t change direction, no matter how rotten the path.
SoS, long time, no see.
i thought the magic solution to our problems was to find a company that actually cares about their mass pvp game mode and a new game.
They care.
It doesn’t seem like it as the vast majority of the core problems still remain and for all we know, nothing is being done about it.
But, they care.
RNG makes Blockhead an unhappy player. Bad decision…. very bad decision.
No added content for explorers.
I consider that a major failing of the game.
Is it? I don’t want to make any verdict myself. I’m just honestly asking. Because I think that AN wanted to achieve few things with living world. And I’m wondering if they’ve succeeded.
So let me ask you this:
- Does the world feel more believable to you thanks to LW content?
Barely. As very little has any lasting impact on the game. For all the talk about the player effecting the world, the game has not remotely lived up to the hype.
- Does the world feel more natural?
The LS villian came out of nowhere, is repeatedly combining alliances that doesn’t make any sense and we’re somehow supposed to feel that she is our personal nemesis. It isn’t working. Nothing about that feels natural.
- Do you feel as part of the world?
I’m just a paying customer with little left to explore. Its hard to feel part of something where you can’t do what you really want to do.
- Do you feel the world is evolving around you?
No I do not. The permanent changes are in dungeons and fractals which I’ve never liked (personal opinion and not a failing of the game itself).
Nothing I do makes a difference. A zerg may be able to whip out the lastest achievment point(s) but that tower was coming down even if nobody went in and did an injection.
- Do you feel that making content temporary is important to achieve the principals of Living World?
I understand that somethings just cannot be permanent but I feel that there should be more lasting effects other than the next oddball Scarlett team up.
Does temporary content has some advantages over permanent content?
None that I can see. If the LS is coming at the expense of new zones, new skills and new races, than my opinion is that it was the wrong choice. Even good temporary gets lost on any new player and thats a shame.
Not a big deal though, other games are on the horizon.
At least wait to say that when the games are actually good.
Or Anet continues to kitten up GW2 so much that the others feel better
Anet is free to make this decision as it is their forum.
However, it also comes across as a limp wristed, poorly thought out and the easy way out decision. The people who visit the forum are among the more passionate users and this heavy handed response will anger that group.
It appears that Anets management is more concerned about their forum than fixing their kitten game.
Lets play a WAR like piece of Guild WARS but, by (PC CORRECT TERM FOR ALL KNOWING ENTITY) you will WAR nicely!
Oh, what a surprise. Another SBI player with perplexity runes doing laugh emotes without actually getting a kill. It’s a good thing I have to go out for a few days so I don’t have to make an actual spec to dump on these gimmick turds.
I think I’ll log in and just start laughing – it seems to get some Mags in froth.
Well kitten…. I came here to read that smack talk.
Now all we can do is creatively criticize Anet’s poor management and decision making skills.
1. The creation of the character of Scarlet.
2. Not keeping FOW or UW in the game.
3. RNG – we should be able to work for what we want. Instead we have to get ‘lucky’.
4. Lack of skills and weapons combinations. GW1 was awesome. GW2 feels like no thought was put into it.
5. NO EXPANSION They show us this massive map, and then only let you go to half of it. We also know of Cantha and Elona and they’re nowhere here. The staff of GW2 has no explorers in it or this would have changed at some point the last fifteen months.
They’re going to ride that Scarlet stupidity till the bitter end.
GW1 is the better game. GW2 has more stuff, better graphics and jumping, but GW1 is still more fun to play.
While that might balance the sign up, it can’t remotely guarantee that actual WvWvW participation would be balanced. In addition, some folks might not be available for early sign up and that could lead to guilds getting split.
With that said, I wouldn’t mind seeing something like that at least tried. If nothing else, it would be something different.
I wish they’d let us peg that little quaggan….. he’s up to no good.
She’ll march some new fangled alliance someplace and we’ll squash her plans again only to hear her say “Its all going splendidly”.
The last update was the best to date, but it was ‘ok’ as releases go. Give a starving man a cracker and its going to be the most amazing thing he’s ever eaten. We’ve dealt with one crappy Scarlet release after another so it was about time we got something that was both fun and felt like we did something.
They said they had an end planned. They didn’t say that she would be killed. I hope we get to kill her. Even if she gets sent back like Shiro, at least I’d have a tiny bit of satisfaction clobbering the worst character ever written in the GW universe.
FOR GRAPE JUSTICE! is still the best
‘Ho Traveler’….. did he just call me a ho?
It was a few months ago while we were waiting for kitten and half the map were whipping out catch phrases and the alterations being listed in this thread. It was a fun waiting for the dragon that day.
No spirit broken on SBI.
The same people who’ve been predicting our demise for many months are still wrong.
Don’t worry, every bandwagon has eventually collapsed.
Not worried the slightest.
I hope you guys can hold it together.
“There’s a lot we don’t know about Scarlet still, and the writers at ArenaNet are definitely improving the storytelling portion of the living world and making adjustments as they go. I think we’ve reached a point at which some of the larger fandom discussion of her has gotten hyperbolic and gross — calling her the worst villain ever written and saying that people deserve to lose their jobs over her is ridiculous, full stop. "
The author is wrong. She IS the worst written character in the GW universe – bar none. I am not calling for the writers to lose their jobs (they’ve done some great things aside from Scarlet) but they sure missed the boat on this LS.
I don’t care if Magumma and Yaks want to crawl into bed together. Collecting that many bad players together just means more bag drops for us
Those are some bold words from somebody on SBI.
Mad bro?
I don’t care if Magumma and Yaks want to crawl into bed together. Collecting that many bad players together just means more bag drops for us

I suggest people read the OP’s post history; specifically on his earlier ones about loot. You’ll see many people tried to reason and explain to him yet he did not believe we were correct. There’s no way you’ll change his stance or mind in this thread.
He does seem to have a large level of resistance to the explanations.
The map completion thing for PVE players does seem out of place as wvwvw isn’t part of the map.
A PVE player on a T1 server isn’t going to roam around and get poi’s effectively. Don’t even try. Find one of the blue dorritos and follow it around. You’ll eventually get all the spots.
At least something happened to all those refuges…. not sure what… but something.
IMO WvW and leveling a few new toons are the only fun things left. The living story has been horrific, abysmal and boring (kitting stupid covers it too). The current arc can’t end soon enough. If new zones don’t show up on the horizon soon, it’ll be time to find a new game.
The forum trolls have gone into repeat mode.
-1 on creativity
No Scarlet is music to my ears!
It could be the best decision the powers that be have ever made
Whats with trolling about the possible trolling. Sheesh, pvf has becomes its own event.
It was to make money from gem buys for transfers.
Which is perfectly fine, but don’t be fooled by some high minded talk of the best fighting it out. They’re a business and this was a nice way to make some bucks off of bandwagoners.
Nobody expected much, yet so many still feel underwhelmed.
I am surprised that the finishers are temporary.
Lastly, RNG is still kitten stupid.
I don’t care about seeing a level increase. I would just like to explore half of the map they’ve never opened.
Thank god that I’ve never played WoW and have no idea what an Emu is/does in there.
