Dragon Stand events, and u dont feel “grinding” while doing it, will earn loots of gold and stuff too. whem u get familiar with it, its most easy navigable map.

I would agree with this. The meta events all give great XP. Especially DS. Toss a booster on and you can pull 1/2 to 2/3 of a level from one depending on your participation. The other best way is adventures. I don’t personally like them. But they are huge XP that can be done daily.

Visual nerfs [Merged]

If I could find even one guy that wanted these changes, I’d make an effort to understand the reasons.

But I can’t find a single person who thinks this is a positive change. The feedback is overwhelmingly, even uniformly negative. I can’t comprehend why it hasn’t been reverted, given a menu slider, or even A RESPONSE FROM A DEV. The beautiful game I loved is being sabotaged from within. This sucks.

Totally legit. I think this game still has too much “visual noise”. In raid groups or large zergs on world bosses. All I see is a visual cacophony of pointlessness.

Edit: I will even add that I would like even less visual effects than the game currently has. This has, what should be a simple solution. A little slider that lets us plays adjust it so it is how we would prefer it!

Calling it adjustments or fixes is just marketing speech for nerfs (most of the time, in rare cases it is a true bug)
The raids are really polished and I cannot think of any encounter mechanic which looks bugged.

I would agree with you. I wasn’t saying that it is bugged or needs adjustments. But that doesn’t stop a developer from making a change that makes content easier and then just saying it was a bug.

Chak Gerent is an example. They said it’s HP was improperly scaling. Was it? Or did they nerf it and say it was a bug fix to avoid the crap storm. PR is an important part of this.

As I said above. I am just speculating that they could do something like this and I wouldn’t be surprised.

I came to this game hoping to tank as well. It doesn’t really exist for the most part. Embrace it, I did. I played Tera for a bit as a lancer. I found it fun and the tanking was well done and always needed.

I am not sure. But I will go out on a limb and guess that when the next raid wing hits. The first will get a slight nerf. This will allow the better groups to keep progressing. And allow the groups that are having trouble to catch up a bit and do the content as well. It keeps the more elite players happy by having the new content hard. It allows the more casual players to actually do the content. I assume this will be the case because nearly every MMO raid I have ever done has done this. It makes sense.

So to relate to your question. It may not matter, if the new encounters are balanced to the new profession balance.

I definitely would not be happy about a “slight nerf” unless the current rewards and achievements get retired so people who beat the true difficulty do not loose prestige.

I would agree that I wouldn’t like it either. But it has happened in most MMO raids I have played. They never call them nerfs. They are always adjustments to mechanics that were not functioning as intended from the start. But when you go in and play with the mechanics “as they were intended” the encounters are suddenly easier.

It may not happen in this game, who knows. It would be nice if it didn’t.

And it is never the players who have done the content that are happy about the slight nerf. But they have their loot and they get to say “I did it when it was hard”.

Either way, it will be interesting to see if/what they do change once there is a balance adjustment.

I would also like to add that I feel it is ridiculous that there isn’t separate balance from PvP to PvE.

To all of you not having fun in PvE

BloodyNine.7504

Leave/untag your PvE guild, find a WvW guild, get on WvW, and fight with real tactics! Don’t complain until you’ve tried it!

I went into WvW with some guildies the other day for the second time. We were half new, half experienced. We were running around having fun. Then one of the big time commanders came in and we joined up to see how it would be. The guy was a kitten. It wasn’t overt, or intentional. The guy just had no tact. Demanding you kept up, didn’t die, do this right now, etc. The bottom line is we were the tools to help him get his Karma train going.

I understand that he wants things done a certain way but the guy needed some people skills. I honestly thought to myself. “If this is what it is like, I will go do something else” I play games for fun and entertainment. I don’t need some inflated ego ordering me around.

In a game mode like WvW that is having a serious problem retaining players and desperately needs new players. Having people like this isn’t going to help. And I am sure there are plenty of commanders out there that aren’t like this and are willing to accept that some players are new and everyone needs to start somewhere. But a first impression like this can seriously hurt the chances that some of those players will ever return to WvW.

I work on high end German Automobiles for a living. There is probably a very broad section of people that would consider what I do challenging, even if I don’t always feel it to be that way.

You have to look at it in context. When you compare HoT to Core Tyria, the difficulty is a pretty big increase. That being said, it is something that you can overcome with practice. That being said I can see how some people are salty about this. I had one small guild I ran with for a while. They lasted about 2 weeks into HoT and now they are all gone. Every single one of them. 10-15 players that were on every day.

Disclaimer. I love the HoT zones. I find it challenging at times without being a hug pain in the kitten .

@Bruno – I don’t think he was referring to NOT getting shards for failing. I read the original post as the rewards for succeeding are not high enough. It sounded like the OP wanted to kill 3 bosses and get to the cap for the week.

K. The previous post was a bug fix that reduced the numbers upon success. I thought that one might have had something to do with his complaint.

Ya, but the rewards pre-bug weren’t 30+ shards per boss were they? Which is what you would need to max out weekly if you one shot all three bosses.

Maybe the intent is for you to not cap it each week.

First thing that comes up to my mind is:

  • why don’t we get repeatable content in raids, we have rifts to skip them each week.
  • Why not encourage getting better, why encourage wiping in 3rd phase to get shards?
  • I see the bigger picture of forcing guilds to fail raids in order to extend raid schedule across multiple days, but that’s a sloppy solution.
  • Why not make repeatable content, while we can ask some one to open instance so we can replay it, another sloppy solution?

Today in 2 hours and 30 min raid, we did earn 32 shards [ keep in mind we killed all 3 bosses today ]…

ALSO, Anet promised dungeon nerf to make raids more rewarding, but where is the reward? I did pay 3,8gold for food, raid returned me 5 gold. And now even ninja shard nerf ?

Well, time gating things aren’t new to this game.

When something like this comes up. I assume it is by design. Just learn to go with the flow. You will enjoy life a lot more.

I wouldn’t say lazy. It would have taken a major recoding of how chars start out. Right now all chars, regardless of their profession start out with the same story instance and then proceed along it, but not by their profession.

To do what you’re suggesting, they’d have to recode the way chars start, separating the Revenants from all the other professions, give them their very own starting instance and their own individual starting story line. That’s not something even remotely minor. It would require a recoding of all 5 races and all 5 racial story lines to add 5 new starting instances and 5 reworked personal stories.

It almost seems like the amount of work one would put in when releasing an expansion and introducing a new class to the game….

Yes, I am being a cynical kitten . But really all of HoT took a ton of work. It seems to me, you introduce a new class. It should have some new story behind it.

The only problem I can see with that is the fact that they are champions. So you can go back daily for loot and xp. If they scale it down it would make is trivial. Plus there are guilds, Malum Factum(sp?) is one I know that do what I believe are weekly hero point zergs? There was a post about it on Reddit and in the looking for forum.

I play Guardian(DH) as a main. I am GS/LB. Use the basic berserker meta build. You can be a little squishy due to a relatively low health pool. But for the most part if you can read mob attacks and learn to move out of the way you should be good. Plus damage is high enough you can burn through things fairly quick.

If you don’t have HoT. I would be using GS/MaceTorch. Same story really.

I will add I keep this build whether I am playing solo or in a group. Unless I am needed to change for certain things.

Threw this together for you. Didn’t use DH since you said Guardian. Not sure if you have HoT or not.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVEQNAR5flsAhShY5QwQIQQEHxDVNAag61GCvwjmTxWcGB-TxRBQBFRJUEUCej9H1fioyHUoZABm/AwRBAA-e

You have enough HP with marauders trinkets to give you some cushion. But mostly full power. Get your skill rotation down and 98% of trash mobs will die so fast your low hp wont matter.

I thought similar in the beginning. I wanted to be tanky. Then I realized it was purely for my desired play style. It just didn’t seem to make sense in this game. This was before I even knew what the term Meta build was. As I played more I realized damage was superior. Being tanky just meant things died slower. I tried out changing up to a high power build and haven’t looked back.

Whirl finisher - time for a change.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: BloodyNine.7504

BloodyNine.7504

Ok, so when there’s a party to be made for something bigger one of the main professions to get is the one with most whirl finishers.

… ok, bad joke.

Blast finisher supremacy aside i belive it’s time for a change for whirls. Right now we got random projectile that is all about small RNG of it getting tossed at direction of your target or not, unless you’re literally standing inside of the target.

So how about this – let’s make whirls apply their results to anything that’s actually in range of the actual spin? No random bolts, just weapon itself taking on property of the field and following simple logic – if it lands, and whirl is performed on your/ally’s combo field it applies the result to target.

I think with this whirls could actually become a meaningful part of the gameplay that is considered by players, and not just result of random activation of whirl on a combo field, because who cares, it’s just a whirl…

I play DH with GS. The whirl is awesome, when fighting one mob or closely grouped mobs. If it is one mob stand inside it, a you said. Works really well on large mobs. If you are inside the mob hit box, every hit and projectile will hit the mob. For smaller mobs, most will hit. So it is pretty huge burst dps.

I don’t see it being that much of a pain to just stand inside the hit box.

I will say I am not familiar how other classes whirls work. Not sure if that would work for others.

If it’s f2p, how did I just manage to spend $100 for an expansion? F2p means free to play. You can’t play over there without paying.

You didn’t have to buy the $100 version. I paid $50 for it. Did you get $50 worth of content? I think so. Look at how much you get in other games for $50 bucks. Most times it is a LOT less.

WoW cots $15 bucks a month. Plus the initial cost of 49.99(on sale now though I think)

So the cost of this game is drastically lower. The lights need to stay on somehow. Especially if you want updates and events and fixes. Those require people, who require money. You either pay a subscription, or you pay in other ways. ANET has chosen the gem store.

Do I love everything about this game? Nope. But I play it over other MMO’s that do have a subscription cost.

I think maybe it is because I am newer to this game. But none of this surprises me. The game is F2P. They have to make money somehow. These people don’t work for free. The astronomical costs of items in games is by design. Why pretend otherwise? They NEED you to pull out your credit card and buy gems or the game goes away. Purchases of the game will only go so far. To keep it running there needs to be a revenue stream.

I can understand why people are upset. To be honest I would rather have no gem store, pay a subscription and have everything earn able in game. But that isn’t happening.

This doesn’t excuse the the obvious problems stated in many other posts. I am just saying, I understand why they do this. Not just why, but why the have to do it.

Can we get some high level feedback?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

BloodyNine.7504

One of my biggest problem is the amount of rewards (skins) in relation to the easy to get and the oney who are locked behind specific areas, RNG, time investment in combination with doing the same _ limited_ content.

We are forced into the new areas to get the new stuff.
Some of it has steps that requires us to go back to core Tyria, however to reap the whole benefits you need to participate repeadedly in HoT content, which isn`t balanced properly to keep being excited over a long time.

Many of the HoT specific rewards would be more interesting if they were accessable outside of HoT, like the new champion weapons.

However, overall there just isn`t enough new stuff and it is only available by doing these big time consuming contents over and over.
While the two armor sets are easy to get, the weapon skins are a nightmare and even required to complete your spezialisation colletions.

I am not talking about it is too hard , I am talking about that the amount is not enough to feel satisfying for the provided content.
Aside from the 7 weapon sets (from which 2 are just upgraded versions of older) and aprox 4 new armor sets, there are only 1-2 champion weapons, per weapon type.
These are only obtainable if you fight in the HoT areas and get specific bags there.

The rewards are very specific to HoT areas and subsequently not enticing for everyone who wants to play the rest of the game and doesn`t want to farm HoT.

I have seen the jungle. It is a great area. However the time investment to get anything done there is driving me to other game areas.
I have no interest going into the jungle at the moment.

While there are valid points in a lot of the gripes many people have about HoT. This one sounds a bit ridiculous to me. You are saying that you like the rewards for the new content, but you want to get them by doing old content? That doesn’t make any sense.

Now if you were to say that you wished they added more rewards and newer skins, weapons, whatever to the core Tyria, that I can understand. That way there are things to be gained from either place.

Back to OP though. I am on Reddit a lot too, and have seen those posts as well. It would be nice if there was some type okittennowledgment of some issues and a very basic statement about what might be done to rectify, or if they are just going to leave as is. But I won’t hold my breath.

Yes you can use a consumable to access the TP but most people go to the major cities when they want to buy/sell stuff.

You need to keep high popluations in LA etc otherwise the game world would feel empty. Sorta standard MMO practice.

This right here. The more they add to the halls, the less people will need to be in the big cities. That won’t happen.

… one specific tier of gear, in this case the top tier, is gated behind one specific content, namely Raids.

After 10years we went from “endgame is what you make out of it”, something a huge chunk of the community was very proud of, cause it was nearly a unique feature in MMO´s, to “endgame is Raids”.

I will guarantee that this will not last. It happens for a time. This stuff is gated behind hard content. This pleases the hardcore players. They get to feel better. They get to have exclusive stuff. Then down the road a change will be made. The raid will get nerfed. Or the gear will be available in other ways. The content will now be accessible to the masses. This will please the masses, while the elite players can look down and say “I got mine when it was a challenge”.

This is not the first MMO I have played and I have seen this cycle repeated in other MMO’s

you can get them Via drops, granted they are few and far between. but they do drops.

I stated earlier. I am a newer player. So this is an honest question, not a rhetorical one meant to prove a point. Do you think that you can reliably gear up a character through drops in lower to mid level fractals and dungeons?

I have been playing them consistently for a couple months now with not one drop. Maybe I have bad luck? Maybe they are dropping for party mates and not me? I am working on ascended armor to move up into higher fractals but at this point I have 10 AR and the cost is crazy. Crafting it is about 3-4 weeks of play time per piece at the rate I am able to play. This doesn’t even address the required weapons for raids.

WoW did a lot of things wrong, but one thing they did right, IMO, was to provide a clear and reasonable path for gear progression.

Yup, the bottom line is that if the gear is required for content then you should be able to get it through content. I don’t want it given to me for free. If I need ascended armor for doing higher level fractals, then doing lower level ones should be able to eventually gear me up. That was I can work my way up.

If ascended weapons are needed for raids then high level dungeons, and or other high end content should drop those as well. You can gear yourself up through playing content to work to harder content. Grinding/buying gold and crafting the armor/weapons should be a shortcut. Not the only way to get there.

None of that would matter at all if the content didn’t require those items. But it does.

But how on earth are new players supposed to ever think about raiding? Those poor sods are waaaaaay behind the curve. And most probably will burn out before they ever get there.

TL/DR: If ANet wanted ascended to be the standard gear for raiding, they should have put some reasonable, progression-based methods in the game to acquire it. But they didn’t.

This so so so so so much. I am one of those new players. It is downright discouraging. I have already thought about looking into a different MMO. Not because I don’t like the thought of “needing” this gear. But because, as a new player, obtaining looks like a near impossible mountain to grind.

I actually feel this to be more of a player problem. The general consensus is ascended armor is nice but not needed. Weapons and trinkets pretty much. I will not pretend that if you are getting a boss to 1%, having that extra little bit from armor won’t help. However at the same time it is likely that being a bit more efficient in your tactics will also achieve that for you.

I really want to get into raids. I enjoy difficult content. I am looking forward to it. Though I have already run into the requirements of having ascended gear. As a newer player the barrier to entry is MASSIVE. Some quick examples.

Weaponsmithing to 500 – 115 Gold(According to GW2Crafts.net)

So lets look at what weapons I will need. I play a guardian. To have the ability to change builds as the raid needs I need a variety. Let’s look at the whole picture! So a Hammer, Mace, Sword, GS and Shield.

Numbers as per GW2 Efficiency

Hammer – 93 gold
Mace – 93 gold
Sword – 84 gold
GS – 84 gold
Shield – 76 gold

So we are looking at around 545 gold for just two hand weapons and main hand. We also would need to level another two professions to obtain off hand weapons and a longbow for the DH specialization. If you add those in we are probably closer to 800 or more gold, the longbow costs 130 to craft alone. And that is only for ONE set, Zojja’s. Heaven forbid you need to craft a different stat set on a couple weapons, that adds to the cost as well.

I do understand that this is end game content and I haven’t been playing that long. But at the same time it feels like the content is nearly impossible to obtain. How long should it take me to obtain that much gold? I am sure there are methods that are faster than others. I am curious as to how long you think this would take through simply playing content. Not working the TP or running around chopping wood, or doing what I have found to be the most eye gougingly boring thing in the world, SW chest runs.

I can understand the argument that this content is for the players that have been around for a while and want the new hard content. I actually enjoy most of HoT. On the whole I very much enjoy the game. But at the same time, this is content I paid for. It is also I content I cannot do for a long, long time. Or I could do it tomorrow if I opened up my wallet.

Maybe I am just really bad at making money? I just find that simply playing content, it does not come fast.

Edit – Revised numbers UP. I did not account for crafting 400-500

Dragonhunter Longbow range discrepancy

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: BloodyNine.7504

BloodyNine.7504

It seems that something is wrong with the range on Spear of Justice.

The tooltip states the range at 1200, The same as all the other abilities. But It seems that when I am at max range I will get an out of range message on the Spear when used. For the longest time I actually assumed it had a shorter range till I bothered to check it last night.

As an example. Claw of Jormag last night. Standing in one spot. Auto-attacking with the #1 ability puncturing shot and using the #2 ability true shot. Both were hitting without issue. Spear of Justice, however would state out of range every time.

So it seems there is some type of range discrepancy here. I was stationary. My target was stationary and skills that all have the same range, one was stating out of range every time.

Great review. Thanks for the time you put in. I agree with you on most of your points. I am a newer player(2 months) and I am finding this game a lot of fun. However I feel I have hit what I am calling the “ascended wall.”

I have just begun crafting ascended armor. At first I thought it was cool that it could be crafted at all. Now, that I realize what it is going to take, I am getting pretty down on it. I have been wanting to do fractals and raid content but my lacking in ascended gear, soon, is going to hurt me. I really wish there was a legit PvE way to obtain ascended gear outside of raids. Though if a change to raids was made as you suggested, it would drastically help out.

Other zones(non HoT) I was able to string together 15-30 minutes of game time between crashes. Changing zones crashed me 80% of the time.
