This thread would have been infinitely more beneficial if the OP simply posted his class and current build. While some damage is excessive in this game, it often comes down to poor play, poor experience, or poor design.

Due to the things he focuses on I can only guess either self-hating power necro or some odd thief variety, probably the latter as the profession is kind of the poster child for getting rear hurt when anyone (especially other thieves) ‘ganks’ them.

I’ve got it for april fools day they should reduce the damage on all the ranger’s ranged weapon by ~400%, but put the knockdown back on the end of the sword chain and increase all the other coefficients as if they didn’t care if there is also a pet potentially attacking. Possibly give a pulsing moment of clarity buff the the pet every third ranger hit.

How long before those who hate ranged combat focused ranger would want things brought back how it was before.

Another poor thief that wants to hide in stealth and be invulnerable for as long as he pleases. Then starts complaining on ranger forum when he finds out he isn’t. What’s new? I’d like to have armour of warr; stealth of thief, aoe of ele, boons of guardian on my ranger. Unfortunately, I don’t. Stop whining , l2p or talk to Santa Claus.

Actually the mods moved this one it was in the PvP subforum, but it goes along with the general complaint thread that pop up and some how don’t just close or merged.

first u nerf our damage through ferocity and i adapted.

The change to ferocity from critical damage % was only a reduction in pve/wvw, spvp was unaffected by that change.

As far as I know the evasion skills (see http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Evade) are working as intended with the interaction between them and immobilize.

I do play Ranger,
I find that the best counter against thieves is Sic ‘Em. Very rarely do I rely on Rapid Fire to stay on top of them. Generally speaking, when thieves find out that they can’t stealth they panic and try to yolo you down. When that happens, its just clocking them up side the head with a GS Hilt Bash, or Sword 1 Chain them down.

Back on topic with Rapid Fire,
I don’t think it would be the end of the world if Rapid Fire were to end as soon as an enemy went invisible. There’s a counter to it to make sure your rapid fire gets off 100% and that’s to go with Sic ’em -> Point Black Shot / Hilt Bash -> Rapid Fire. With that being said, If Rapid Fire receives this fix; all other classes with similar mechanics should receive this fix as well.

That would be a bit of work for what exactly (changing a game mechanic, how channeled skills have work from the beginning of the game)? What does that add to the game as a whole when compared to what that manpower/hours could be used for?

has anyone even seen a thief before? can we confirm their existence or are we dying instantly due to a bug in the game?

Was there any difference in terrain elevation? If anything stairs need nerfing badly. That and grass, obstructing when the mode takes it.

I find it humerous that people using a new toy that a net gave them with the recent longbow buffs all of a sudden want everyone else to l2p and adapt their playstyles to counter it when before the buffs were the same people who cried that longbow just wasn’t good enough for them instead of learning how to use it and position yourself and use your pet to position your opponent etc. You say that the skill ceiling is so low??? You asked a net to lower it. And they did. And now you want everyone else to l2p. I say lol.

Again you can check my post history I’ve been playing power longbow since shortly after release. I am not crying for nerfs. I am calling out hypocrisy.

Well the developers didn’t agree with you and made improvements. Are you done stroking your ego and kitten. Tell me this did you enjoyed the time when players could strafe dance to avoid the projectiles from the longbow?

The 12 skills is just speculation right now. We do not know if the ele will still keep 4 attunement or get something different or the attunement behave differently. We do not know how many skills will come with the specialization. It’s all speculation right now.

As for the power creep I doubt that will be the issue. The specializations are being used to fill a role that was currently unfillable by that profession. They are not putting in specs to fill a role that’s already filled. So when I spec ele I’m not choosing spec burst over normal burst but instead I’m choosing between filling a new role or playing the same roles as before

What role is the profession needing? They are one of the best damage dealer in pve, the most stackable profession in spvp, and they are the E in the GWEN of wvw (even though the developers don’t know what to do with wvw as the original design balance was never a concern now the are struggling to seize chaos on that from).

More interestingly – what will be the specialization for Revenant? :P did you even think about it?

Does the new profession even need one yet, as it is getting the benefit of designers see what has and hasn’t worked and the additional development time, I can’t think of any profession that would have been the state it is now if it had been delayed to be part of the expansion as opposed to (for some) being rushed to make it for the initial launch.

Elementalists are getting 12 new weapon skills.

Every other class is getting either 2, 3 or 5.

Stop whinging.

Exactly even it the new weapon is only an off hand they would still be receiving more skills than those receiving a two handed weapon.

Unfortunately with the developmental history/preference of the player base I doubt any additional option will be used as they would have to be better than the ones already in use and that screams of power creep which at least at one point the developers/designers stated was something they wanted to avoid.

Dunno if u ever watched/played high bracket pvp but thief is only usable as cap or +1 because of poor design of many mechanics involving stealth/initiative everyone who at least know what thief can do can outplay him
Also funny that stealth interrupting channel skills (not only rapid fire ) is too op but kittened skills with 3-6 100% immunity to dmg is ok , also i do understand that ranger was up and now finally got some love , but saying that thief is op in spvp is literally not playing him or l2p issue

You are reading it to my comment what you want, I for one have never called for any thief nerfs, the fact being if the profession did not help the composition it is placed in win then it would no long be used at all.

That compositions are running thieves proves that they are at least functionally a better choice for the purpose they fill. Whether or not you or anyone else likes that is not the point of my stance on the whole ‘QQ drowned the thief profession’ if in fact it had there would be no thieves being used as the teams would go with a superior option.

Overpowered is doing damage comparable to 100b + added damage,from not 1500,but 1700 range since that bug has been going on forever aswell,+ being able to move around while doing so aswell…That is op.Rapid fire in itself,the dmg,the range,the way their able to move around while using it,its op as kitten.Every idiot and his mother can down people with a ranger atm.Lock rangers in place when using rapid fire,disable them to move around while using rapid fire.Why does a skill like 100b has a self root applied but something as idiotic as rapid fire which does more dmg and has an insane range does not self root ?

Now now, warrior don’t start comparing things without full context, for that is the path to the complete destruction of your favored profession.

Or should every remotely similar option be rebalanced base on the perceived weakness.

Funny thing the ranger profession isn’t dominating the high end play, isn’t being selected as a stack-able profession, yet somehow it is ‘overpowered and needs adjusting’.

What does that say about profession that are in fact in the positions of dominance? Should they be nerfed into the ground to make the game mode more open to all potential compositions?

No other ranger LB skill applies vulnerability!!!!

I can only hope that you are exaggerating there as there are additional (non-sigil) sources of vulnerability, none of which are really an issue.

All in all if it’s longbow being a issue it would be somethings else as there are members of the player base that have taken a bias against the ranger profession to he point of anything less than reducing the profession to completely useless or its total removal will satisfy them.

Basically the replies kind of speak for the whole topic there isn’t a whole lot that can really be nerfed while maintaining the design philosophy of the profession and allowing it to be competitive, which at this point the profession isn’t where it needs to be.

Unfortunately the general feedback they are receiving it very negative for the profession as such it is likely that the nerf Rangers will be force to deal with will be either being ignored developmentally or the increase in the abilities that hard count the profession.

Perhaps Honed Axe could be reworked to a 5% damage increase to ax skill (just main hand if it is too much) and add an additional bounce to Ricochet.

Other than potential inapproapate pet names (that already happen with the current system) I don’t know why they could not find a way to have the names store client side.

Funny thing is for the amount of work to make that QoL improvement would have zero effect on game balance and would have a general positive reaction from the ranger population.

It would be awesome if we could get this option additionaly “only attack my target”. Would be awesome vs mesmers for example, not attacking clones, and not having to press “attack” everytime after the mesmer gets out of stealth.

Wouldn’t want to open that can of worms the mesmer’s whining allow would probably get the pet’s health reduced in all mode, additional damage loss across all pets, and a reduction of the pet’s stats/increases gain from the beastmastery tree.

Actually these “the roots die to 2 hits” comments are a little incorrect – as a Mesmer I have to Blurred Frenzy AND Illusionary Persona Wrack Shatter to kill a root binding me. They are tougher than some people are letting on.

I’m all for it if we get like3-4 Pets and we get a shield. This way we can afk/derp like a turret Engi on points. Or, how about give Spirits1-2k AA’s and then they don’t even have to create anything. Just remove the weapons and give us a shield.

Spirits would probably have to go as well as I think they were the scraps left on the floor when they euthanized the warden as a profession.

Nerf per damage even more. At least I’d stop trying to use them for offence and would fully swap to CC pets.

I could see that, however from the pvp view of things most of the dps are already not seeing much use. So basically for that side of the game if would be next to unnoticeable, and par for the course for anet with adverse effect for pve to ‘improve’ pvp.

I agree with OP.

Remove Longbow and Shortbow from Ranger’s weapon set.
It’s the only way to fix rangers.

If that they only way, they might as well remove most/all the weapons, fix the pet system and rename the profession beastmaster. Then people would still complain and get it banned from spvp.
