I’d like to see one legitimate reason why not to include the option, besides saving it for a “we don’t have anything else ready” patch
They want unranked to be casual and standard models are tryhard.
Not saying I agree with this, but I’m pretty sure is the main reason.
Problem there is they seem to want a transition from unranked to ranked and the lack of an option is kind of glaring as they state often they want said transition to be smooth between modes.
I’d like to see one legitimate reason why not to include the option, besides saving it for a “we don’t have anything else ready” patch
As underwater combat is no longer a part of sPvP it is unlike to see anymore development time.
There’s a reason my current Ranger is called ‘Why Did My Pet Die’, as they are so bad as to be useless in my preferred game modes – in fact, the only places they are useful is open world pve and spvp, as those are the places you don’t find massive aoe that kills both your pets in seconds.
Until they come up with a pet that can jump waves from the dragon, they are a liability there too- whether kept next to you doing nothing or sent in to do some damage, same result, dead pets and kitten damage output.
Maybe one day they will invent something that makes up for the lack of damage when both your pets are dead, so that you can avenge your dead pets..I even thought of a name for it ‘IWAY’ (I will avenge you)! Oh wait, that was in GW1, so no chance that they would ever use a skill from that in what is laughably called a sequel..
And if the only use most can claim for a pet is a 1.5-2.5 second cast for fury/might on F2, when it stand still while casting so i am dodged out of range by the time it finishes, then clearly the pet is broken..remind me again, how long does a warrior shout take to cast?
F2 skills should be instant cast, and then maybe the pet has a use- a fire and forget small boost before it dies on a long cooldown…
Unfortunately the designers refuse to take the rangers mechanic into account when working on content, just like they are likely to play head in the sand when a single guardian built for reflection completely trivializes a fight.
They’ve stated that they will not remove the pet and are afraid for some reason to limit the negative impact the action (dodge or die) playstyle has on the ranger’s pet and the ranger’s effectiveness.
A short but in my opinion important CoL change of the following effects:
- Food
- Utility
- Stealth
- QuicknessWhen you as a ranger use these things, the bonus is also granted to the pet. This can either be implemented by a trait or normally, not sure because of balance reasons.
Doing this will give ranger more depth (not letting pet attack if stealthed for example to not reveal your pet) and make runes/sigils like rage a bit more useful.
I doubt that they would do so even though it would kind of parallel how certain classes get more out of the on swap sigil than others. I can just imagine the tear from pets proc-ing air/fire.
So many pages, no time to read so here my quick input.
Celestial eles are most popular becouse their natural predator- s/d thief – is very weak option.
Thief buff maybe?
And then Mesmers become even more obsolete than they already are.
Don’t buff things to compensate for other things being over-powered. That’s a recipe for power creep. Nerf the things that are over-powered.
Not sure if that will help at all as that will just lead to another nerf-buff whack-a-mole rotation for the elementalists. But that may just become what happens, then you get 6 month elementalist OP followed by 6 months of elementists being useless.
I really want to get that caraprace armor.
Please make it repeatable, I can’t see why it isn’t.
Probably for the same reason that additional play-through of the LS on additional characters do not reward the armor, they a gating it for whatever reason they decided on
More people are playing right now than before. Anet won’t even consider reverting back unless the number of people playing dropped substantially lower than where it was before the patch…
TL;DR Might as well stop making these kind of threads since it’s useless.
Wrong. The amount of pve heroes that farm dailies increased. The amount of PvP players decreased.
The ratio is 1:3 so it looks like more people are playing but its the opposite.
If that is the case then Anet got exactly what they wanted which was to entice player that were ignoring that mode to try it. If that bothers you I don’t know what to tell you, but it is pretty clear that has be the general plan of action for quite some time now.
Maybe ranger needs a new elite skill.
“Cutting Room Floor”: Splint the ranger into the Warden and Marksman"
Not sure how long it will take for them to get around to doing anything about it. It took almost a year to get an Aryan nation guilds disbanded with daily reports of their bigot remarks.
exactly, if there were perfect balance there would be no counterplay, and no strengths and weakness to seperate classes, they would just have different names to seperate them
So, in that scenario, the winner would be determined by…player skill?
Or who is the better hacker.
Just pointing this out there, but if Anet is not nearly finished with this expansion you feel is needed then even if they start today (and pull everyone in from the holiday vacations), it will not be out in a timely enough manner for your liking.
- Guard- No longer has a cooldown or cast time, but no longer has grants stealth or protection. Pet no longer teleports back to the player until recalled back with f3 or f4. Due to no cooldown, Rune of the Trooper no longers remove conditions for this skill.
Then it would by definition stop being a shout. The ranger shouts as they stand barely fit that category and were probably classified that why to justify the inclusion of the Rune of the Trooper (read old name Soldier, as in really only intended for Warrior and Guardian).
Currently there is a trait to make the ranger ‘shouts’ grant a bit of group utility. To be honest I think they should either make the shout actual shouts ie. sick’em remaining a offensive example (similar to have ‘Fear Me’ is offensive in nature) and provide the others with party wide effects that also happen to always effect the pet.
Or (preferable) scrap the entire nature of them as ‘Shout’ and work with them as ‘Pet’ skills to add additional control/effect to the pet alone.
I’ll have to check if I still have the videos, but I recorded different areas in the game and could basically pull any target off the pet (with me having lower toughness) with nothing more than walking a few steps close, this is just using the F1 to have the pet engage and using damaging F2’s.
That being same the game itself does not allow for a truly predictable aggro system and for the most part have unrealistic fears concerning rangers and their pets within PvE.
Baseline could be a lot of power creep.
Glad I could help, L guess. I just enjoy discussion (with occasional snark at time). Best of luck finding fun.
ArenaNet needs to make some minor fixes to address this.
First, players shouldnt be able to circumvent the AFK kick mechanic through pets or other ingame mechanics. A player should have to actively do something in game (input via their keyboard) to turn the timer off. Ideally, continual action should have to persist for X number of seconds to count.
Second (and much simpler), NPCs in Silverwastes shouldnt be programmed to rez players any more.
I realize there is more they could do longer term – or more sophisticated solutions – but these are the ones they need to focus on first.
This kind of leeching is among the worst kind of behavior in this game – PERIOD. It destroys the fun of a zone for large groups of players and forces the developers to have to create workarounds or design fights with the question “can the players exploit this?” rather than “can the players have fun doing this?” Anything we can do to discourage it is welcome.
Only slightly unrelated the is there any reason why chattingm crafting, and inventory management are not considered ‘active’ play. The only reason I could see is to maybe keep the TP bots in check.
On the “can the players exploit this?” thing the general stance of first exploit profit mindset that as be establish is a large problem, but one that they do not have a good solution for.
Unfortunately for some of the worst ‘offenders’ the acquisition is the ‘fun’ for them so how is this designed around.

I mean leg pieces in general. They end where boots supposed to be covering them. With no logical end, fold back or something.
I’ve really used many of the skins that have that particular effect. Once I get some time I would like to go through the wardrobe to see.
Do you have any picture to give me a place to start (or a gender/race/armor weight to start with).
Thanks for the sentiment. I hope you had a pleasant Solstice.
OP is correct…Necros don’t use boons (boon duration), they don’t use power(o.O), and they never heal themselves or heal others (o.O o.O). Is this an actual post? Is this real life? I sense troll?
His signature says he is a Necro….must be troll.
Do they? What boons do they use besides sub-par access to protection, regen and might? Can you make a viable build using those boons? Get your boon duration up and start stacking them boons.
Power? A joke. Lich got nerfed (probably the only thing that made power necros a thing). God do any of you play this profession at all? lol
Healing others!? WE can barely heal ourselves kitten lol. Yeah and well of blood nerf ty. Do you know what the necro’s class mechanic is? Its a mechanic that shuts off any outside heals, siphoning or healing power-related anything (unless of course you get the gm for regen.. yey)
Not troll at all. Truth fam
If you honestly think all this…you should re-roll.
Power Necros stack might like a mofo…Strength rune plus traits gives you over 30 second boon duration for perma 25 might stacks in combat…………………..YES BOON DURATION.
Lich did get nerfed ; now lich only hits for 6-15k…..bummer (depends on their toughness).
MM Necro heals themselves a lot along with others. Life transfer heal is the most powerful AOE heal in the game (yes I know, no one plays MM); but that is why the healing stat is there.
Depends on what the necro is playing. Just because YOU don’t use them, doesn’t mean no one else does. Naive/ Ignorance/ Most useless post everYou going to make a thread next about why every other class has a boon duration stat? I can’t believe I am still in this toxic post. I will leave now.
well i think you’re just making stuff up now. I’d like too see that viable build that sustains 25 stacks of might. 25 stacks…
I would almost run MM if they weren’t boring and if the minions actually worked as intended. Buggy animations and functionality drown out their capability.
I don’t mean to be toxic at all. You called me a troll. if anyone made the thread toxic it was you.
If you are not enjoying the necromancer why continue playing it? There will probably silent until a couple of week of any changes with the next balance patch. There is plenty of time to try different option.
Must agree. This is not botting. Leeching seems more accurate but we have no way of reporting that as of yet.
Because there is nothing wrong with it. In fact, it’s so common in WvW that my server wouldn’t have any players left if they were kicked/banned every time they leeched my camp flipping.
Again, Anet devs and forum staff have responded to many threads this week, but not this one. Why do you think that is?
They want to avoid taking a stance on it. Also to not have another incident of sometime players goals run opposed and that is alright comment that completely went against the stance of completion of an event is not griefing.
remember paragon armor in gw1…hard not to /vomit….never forget
Not at all, but if that is how you feel about it I will not be looking that up anytime soon.
Would it hurt anyone to just add a toggle for that option?
OP is correct…Necros don’t use boons (boon duration), they don’t use power(o.O), and they never heal themselves or heal others (o.O o.O). Is this an actual post? Is this real life? I sense troll?
His signature says he is a Necro….must be troll.
Or he is very disappointed in the performance those options on his chosen profession and is unwilling to more on to something else that would perhaps be more enjoyable for himself (either a different profession or game).
Too much chance for power creep.
Which “leggins” exactly?
I believe is it more of the archetype that they intended for the profession.
What would you rather call it?
are you saying the problem is that pve players don’t want to pvp or wvw? or that pvp and wvw have the 5-10 minute achievements while pve sometimes has to wait 3 hours for the right world boss to be up?
I agree that pvp and wvw achievements are really short and easy to complete if you just play them normally. pve achievements, though, are wayyyy too specific.
That could speak more about the general temperament of player that prefer those modes of play.
And now you complain for being afk …. what is next “minions are too slow” ?
This is game , not a job or anything else , the afk poeple dont harm anyone , and if that the case go to another map or deal with it , or better grow the kitten up
For the sake of argument they do count against the total number of people allow on that copy of the map and depending on placement effect the scaling of events.
As for whether or not that hurts anyone is subjective.
Well doubt we get any massive changes soon so, in the theme of the Mind Stab change, what skills or traits would you like to see changed slightly that would, in your eyes, improve mesmer in PvP?
My changes would be:
Increase confusion duration on shatter from 3 seconds to 5 seconds on cry of frustration and Illusionary Retribution.Especially in the current cele/hoelbrak meta the confusion is way too short and not to mention it’s only 1 stack which already deals pathetic damage. This should in my opinion totally get a buff ever since confusion was nerfed.
Illusionary Warlock":
Been long enough that this phantasm is so easy to avoid and so unpredictable. I would totally give up 5-10% damage on the phantasm to make its projectile somewhat like Wind of Chaos.Phantasmal Mage:
This phantasm is pathetic… Cooldown should be reduced to 20 like all phantasm. What are your changes?!
Your changes involve making the mesmer class stronger.
The last time ANet decided to buff mesmers, there was enough forum QQ that the tears could fill an entire stadium.
Your changes will therefore not happen.
Yeah. Helseth will jump around for 20 minutes screaming about the new iMage meta, ai roflspam.
You forgot the part where he will make threaten statements (as a joke) and get banned from another event.
I also recall reading, but can’t find, a thread where Rangers were disciplined (banned/suspended) for going afk and letting pets attack neighboring mobs.
This seems harsh and unfair. Sad that ArenaNet would do that. How do they separate a ranger that is exploiting their game mechanic versus a player that legitimately just stepped away from their computer for whatever reason?
It would be better, IMO, if they fixed the problem at its core. Either remove the ability for animal companions to get experience based on anything they do OR remove the ability for animal companions activity in keeping players from being kicked to the character selection screen. If they can’t perma-afk and/or gain credit for doing nothing themselves = Solution.
I doubt there will be a good solution, but I think that if they wish to continue with that trend a similar ban for those trying to trains onto a player with pet/minion(s), just to keep the behavior in check.
Sad thing is they ignore the TP bots entirely, but it’s their game they can do what they want with it so long as the company stays out of the red.
Thats the dev’s special zone where everything works :p
Lies there is no way that they’ve fixed behaviors of pets/minion/etc.
May of the pet related traits only work (if they work at all) once the ranger (possible the pet as well) when in combat.
As for runes/sigil not working with pet I am guessing it is a necessary evil could you imagine if minion/turrent (spirit weapon too, but I hardly ever see them) got advatages of those.
It does kind of blow that the class feature of the ranger is so static in nature compared to those of other profession (in the nature that they character’s stat do have effect on them).
Perhaps reducing the damage if an enemy gets closer during the channel to entice players to watch their fire and keep a proper control of their shots.
I think that the damage was intended to not have ranged requirements on rapid fire shot. Not entirely seeing why changing it is necessary.
To be honest I would like to see a general system change in the nature of true projectile vs. magical ranged attack. To either have projectile ignore retaliation or to have reflection effect all ranged attack. I’d prefer the former as it make for choices matter a bit more,
At least we are not back to the earlier days when people would report any and all rangers they saw.
OP could always try shaming, but they usually don’t care.
Kite stuff on them and watch them die.
Too bad they removed the repair costs so it’s not worth ressing them until they’re naked.
I’d be a bit cautious using either method as they could be considered harassment and then you only risk your own account.
Largely the problem is in the design of the content combined with the general laziness of those individuals.
Or add a toggle for everything.
Baby steps, can’t push for too much at once.
Mostly I think this could be a solution for the general lack of design in transitioning the boot designs to nonhuman races of the game (especially the charr and asura).
That is all.
Post a reply if you agree and if you don’t tell why I’d like to think that this change would be minimal in effort and (without programming hoodoo) has no downside to it.
Part of me wonders would you have been as upset if it had been any other profession other than ranger?
Part of me wonders if you’re actually serious, or just a huge troll.
Because, you know, most of us think that speed hacking is bad, not #mlgproelitenextlvlstrats.
I am perfectly serious the general tone as of late is one of hatred toward rangers. Was the profession of the individual that was playing at the time really all that important that it needed to be mentioned as part of the thread title.
I generally stay out of WvW as it is a mess, so I could care less about your emotional response to it. And if anet isn’t doing anything about it what does that say to you?
People always say L2P but I guess that doesn’t go for under water combat… sight. I think removing the Capricorn and the water zone to make place for the ruins was a big, BIG mistake. I never understood why they back pedaled that huge amount of content.
I doubt is was so much a L2P issue as a combination of the general dislike of ‘losing’ out on the build a person is used to playing (see the issue with bundle based potential pvp modes/mini-games) and the fact that the developers did not what to put the effort towards the type of balance they want for the spvp environment.
I do feel that the event dailies are causing a bit of an issue as it can cause players not to want to play around/with others.
This however is very much indicative of the Tag Wars mentality that has been developing over the coarse of the games lifetime. Somehow in trying to removed some of the worst competitive aspects of a (at its core) cooperative mode of play there has developed a new side of the same problems.
Part of me wonders would you have been as upset if it had been any other profession other than ranger?
People tend to hate underwater combat. So much so, they remove it from certain PvP maps. But, never fear, it’ll be here with a vengeance once the Elder Dragon Bubbles-S arrives.
As long as it isn’t Trials of Atlantis, I think it’ll be okay.
Bubble will probably park his scaly butt on top of lions arch and it will be a weird draw him out of his shell (I picture a turtle dragon) event chain followed by a pinata mode.
After they removed Capricorn (and before that the draining of the water to make room for the ruins in WvW) I think that was basically the stance Anet has for underwater combat.
I doubt they will add to much to it or work on any ’balance around those options.
Slightly offtopic they own ranger an addition focus patch as the aqua-man one is basically negated by their neglect of underwater combat.
isn’t entangle already plenty good anyway? i mean, the reasoning behind this buff would be “it matches the animation” not “it’s weak and needs it”? doesn’t sound like a solid ground for a buff.
i’m sure ranger has utilities that need much more love than entangle.
They’ve used animation ‘fix’ in the past to justify nerfs so why not.
Santa “RNG” Claus will make many people angry this christmas.
He is a very evil entity in GW2.
Krampus as we’ve all been naughty this year.
If you like playing Paladin, try Warrior with a Longbow. Warriors are like Brusiers ( in LoL if you get the term ) ; they have strong armour/vitality and strong damage too.
Don’t let the warrior see that comment it seems to me that they are convinced that if they are not proven to be the at least the 2nd best damage in the game then their profession is garbage.
No one has any thoughts about this I am kind of in awe.
-Hunters
in a 1v1 situation to win a duel?
Note* (Currently I play a D/P thief with Caed build 2/6/0/0/6 )
Hunter is unbeatable, Anet doesn’t even know that they exit solely to drink the tears of thieves.
