Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
I’m pretty sure the in-game BLTP interface already runs from a separate web-server (and the API already exists as well).
I think they don’t WANT people NOT in the game.
The inability to salvage those items is not new but has been in place since a few weeks after released (to prevent karma / badges / etc. to gold conversion). The fact that there is now now way to get upgrades OFF these items (sans a 250 gem item) IS a new issue that needs to be addressed (IMO).
I’m guessing we get Legendary Trinkets first (for 500 Jeweler).
I followed your (incorrect) argument just fine, (but thanks for being so concerned with my comprehension of your vastly superior intellect). GW1 could pull off city districts because nobody was actually PLAYING (and the lag was usually HORRIFIC in foreign districts). GW1 instances with foreign players was ALSO problematic at best.
Either your memory is very short or you were not playing the same game I was.
If you don’t understand the logistical differences between connecting FIVE people for actual gameplay and several HUNDRED, then again, figure it out for yourself. I just love being talked down to by someone that clearly has no clue what they talking about (BTW, if more than a few people indicate you are clueless, maybe you should consider the possibility).
I will be on this evening around 6PM Central US for a short time and I’m not exactly sure tomorrow (have some yard work to do early). I usually play for a good bit on weekends as my Son also plays with me then.
I need to check what characters I have around that PS mission and get them up to there.
So you think GW2 servers system works just like GW1s did……I think I see the problem in explaining this to you, now. Gonna let you figure out the problem for yourself since it’s obvious you already have all the answers.
Good luck.
In terms of aesthetics, this has NOTHING to do with a Legendary as in your situation, you would not benefit from ANY weapon skin appearances. In terms of game stats, you would certainly benefit form a Legendary higher stats, infusion slots and ability to change stats at will.
I’m unsure what you suggest anyone do about this situation as ALL Engineers have this issue when using kits. Pretty much accepted as part of playing the class.
On a related note, I’m guessing that when you swap to a kit, the Legendary footprints and other “glowy” effects do not display as well….?
……
If you see anyone that owns a gathering tool, point at them and laugh.
I think it’s kind of amusing you wasted all that space and typing time to state something most everyone already knew (cost is not a reason to buy these) without the 5th grade math analysis……good job!
The OPs “feeling poorer” now, is a perception issue that nobody can do anything about.
The suggestion that 1g a month after launch was more money than 200g now is nonsensical. There is just much more available to the OP now (much of which was simply not aware of then) and with that knowledge comes the desire for items that cannot be currently obtained.
Some of this is due to a gradual shift from many players from playing the game for fun and entertainment to playing the game for rewards…..
I think the gist of John’s post is that inflation is not a problem in GW2.
This.
By “ridiculous” I meant that when normal people do something, they do not rely on circumstances, which were true for times gone.
…….
Just remember you posted that the next time you make a mistake….
Yes, a perfect world is something we can all strive for, but in reality, mistakes happen. In terms of the overall importance of mistakes, this one is NOT that high on the list.
#fanboi!
This thread is justified as it’s an “out of rules” issue. And yes, having changed the rules and injecting vertical progression with Ascended gear is a justified complaint too. Even adding the Laurel system and the recent focusing on widespread account binding are changes to the economic meta. All changing the rules and are a justifiable complaint.
Yeah….winky name calling is SOOO KEWL!!!
My point is if you think they did this on purpose and it will not be fixed, WHY are you still playing this game? If you think so little of ANet, please move on and spare the rest of us your tin-foil hat hyperbole……
I NEVER implied the complaint wasn’t valid….it’s obviously a bug, but it will likely get fixed and it’s not stopping anyone from continuing to play the game. So you can’t pass the stupid back piece to another character for a few weeks…..that is NOT a game halting issue.
The entire economic model of this game is based on selling gems and to do that, players MUST be logged in (for the most part). The sooner you realize this is NOT going to change, you will take whatever actions needed to make yourself a happier gamer.

Bags and salvaging may favor cloth, but it sure don’t seem like it. Cloth seems to always be the one (basic) material I lack in. Have oodles and oodles of ore and wood…
If you gather a lot, doesn’t that make a bit of sense?
If you farmed enemies that drop loot bags as much as you farmed nodes (using the term “farm” loosely here), it would likely be the opposite.
In terms of Ascended gear, they SHOULD lower the Silk requirement for Damask to something closer to what is required for the other 2 armors…..the difference in materials required for light Ascended is out of whack by a LOT.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
The name is misleading, but the description is accurate. Report the misleading name as a bug if it bothers you that much.
I usually run with the mini-map one click out from full zoom-in. You get some decent detail and can see nodes a bit farther out than full zoom in.
Farming for keys is pretty boring in itself. So, I don’t know why you would farm for it when you’re bored lol
Mostly because I have over a hundred BL chests and with the new booster consolidation it will eventually clear out some bank space….and I might get some useful items and maybe get some new skins unlocked. As a side benefit, you get some free Luck and T1 materials from every run. I’m sure I will get bored of it, but right now it’s a nice diversion to break up the other activities I’m doing.
Rangers have warhorn #5. 15 seconds of speed boost every 35 seconds. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Call_of_the_Wild
My bad. Forgot about that one….still speed boost is inferior to Warrior or Guardian.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Everything you do is reversable and you will gain MANY more skill points than there are skills to unlock….don’t worry.
Which option do you take with the Pale Tree to get the “ORB” branch again? I have several characters near that place in the story that may be able to assist you (and I would like to open Ft. Trinity for all my characters ASAP).
EDIT: Looked it up…Forcing Another to Suffer is the path to capturing the Orb branch
I’m on an NA server (Yak’s Bend) so if you are not EU, I could help you out this weekend (I may need to do a few PS missions first).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Just hit 97% MF and while I do tend to salvage a lot of items, I am NOT pursuing MF specifically.
My RARE and EXOTIC drops certainly seem better now than before the MF patch (I NEVER used MF equipment back then). It’s really difficult to state for sure as they are STILL RNG based.
It’s because there are two data centers which separately hold the account’s information. One is in Europe and one is in the USA. Because there are two account data holding sites, this means the two types of accounts can’t share the same map.
Thanks, Captain Obvious.
The point is that this division is artificial and ANet should make it go away.
Yeah, there is this thing on the internet called latency that IS effected by actual geographic location (the data path length from your PC to the server). Games that need near-real time data to work smoothly do NOT do well with high latency. The game was designed with 2 (now 3) data centers for a reason.
Players whine about lag and very often the reason is something Anet CANNOT do anything about (sans putting in MORE DATA CENTERS….the exact opposite of the OP request). Ask a player in the Pacific Rim (that has to connect to either NA or EU servers to play at all) and they will tell you about living with near constant skill lag and rubber-banding. (Yes, Anet could add another Data Center, but I’m sure it’s not cost effective to do so).
One BIG data center would make the game horrific for a VERY large portion of the playerbase, so it’s not likely to happen.

Mobile Authenticator is better simply because your email can get hacked MUCH easier than someone can get your phone (hopefully…..).
Also, if the Authentictor isn’t enabled it can actually be used AGAINST you in a hacking situation (the hacker can turn it on for THEIR phone).
I’ve only heard complaints due to lost or reset phones, but Support has always appeared to have solve the issues rather quickly.

Wait….you can’t right click on a name in chat and select “report” any longer? Since when?
I guess I’m missing how a discourse in chat generates a display name to report…..I’m not talking about THIS specific instance where the OP only has a screenshot (which would also BE a character name…..not display name), I mean’t in the future it would be easier to report from the chat display report method.

You do NOT get skins you had in the past unlocked unless they are:
Any skins you previously have used must be unlocked again (other than those listed above). Yes, it’s a bit of a downer, but consider it a type of scavenger hunt.
This is just a way to try and FORCE some people into an area they don’t want to be in, because, there ARE those that will go to any length for a stupid minipet.
Seriously….FORCE them?

Sorry, I edited my original post because I felt I was a bit harsh with you. My bad.
In MY suggestion, there would be NOTHING other than the link in the reply would take the hacker to a page where they would be unable to answer the questions required to even OPEN a ticket…..Support would NEVER be bothered with the issue and granted, the player would likely not know about the email hack (so there would be no “wake up call”). You say it isn’t Anet’s responsibility to ensure player email security so why would it be their responsibility to inform the player their email is hacked?
However, the account would NOT be compromised and Support would NOT be wasting resources (both changing password emails NOR having to deal with another hacked account). Eventually, organized hackers would realize there is no profit in trying to compromise accounts like this (because they can’t) and would move on to some other method (that I’m sure we would soon see evidence of in this forum).
I get what you are saying (that this account hack is a way for users to KNOW their email has been hacked), but you are the one that stated players personal account security is only one persons responsibility.
Part of my reason for my interest in this issue as that my account was hacked like this several months ago. I was lucky and the hacker got into my account for only a few minutes (according to Anet Support) and took nothing. However, MY wake up call wasn’t not being able to log in (I was taking a break from GW2 at the time), but the email from Support asking me to rate my recent support issue. What support issue?
The “change my password” email from the hacker. BTW, the entire issue was an ancient password on that email account I had used for years (that I had quit using, but NEVER updated that email account credentials….I hardly ever use that email address). It all worked out ok for me, but I realized just how hollow it felt that Anet Support themselves had played a crucial role in my account being compromised (granted, NO FAULT of theirs) and that this simple change could prevent LOTS of account hacks if made.
The irony of the situation was that the hacker used 4 words (2 of them misspelled) to get into my GW2 account (after hacking my poorly secured email) and I had to answer a dozen questions to get it back.

This is a REALLY old post and any Mac issues should be taken up in their own forum (this one is really for PC issues). The Mac client has it’s own forum as it’s basically still Beta software.
Unparking cores can significantly reduce battery life as we’ll.
I think that might be the price you pay when trying to make a laptop into a gaming rig…..
So this is equivalent to letting a child play with a screwdriver and a light socket? I’ve never been a big advocate of idiot proofing the whole world but if the solution makes LESS work for Anet (which I fully feel it would), I sure would like to think the would at LEAST think about it (if for nothing more than overall cost savings).
Again, beyond the, “They won’t do that again!” argument, give me a valid downside to my proposal and I’ll be the first to agree it’s a bad idea.
I guess my real disappointment from this entire saga is that every time I have mentioned this possible change, no response has EVER come from any Anet rep. That makes my inner baby quagan sob a bit…..

……
Personally, I would always recommend a ranger for a newbie. …..
Warrior a close second.
I think that’s bad advice as Ranger teaches REALLY bad game-play habits right off the bat. No need to dodge or move (due to ranged attacks) and a built in tank so you rarely have to deal with immediate direct aggro. This assumption is based on the standard BearBow infest…errr build. If you go Melee only Ranger, it’s not that bad (tho the pet is still a crutch that will colapse on you at the worst possible time). Note that I play a ranger and usually hybrid a Longbow/Greatsword setup (tho I don’t play my Ranger much any longer).
Warrior is a solid choice to learn the game as long as you actively try to NOT get hit (and learn to avoid BIG damage).

If you want to level via crafting here is the skinny:
YOU DIED FROM SKRITT!!!!
I would have to consider it…..never bought one before.
Ascended gears are account bound when made but not Legendaries (only account bound when equiped), still a mystery till this day…..
I’m sure there are specific exceptions to the above, but those are the general rules of thumb.
I hate how when you unlock a skin from an exotic it binds it. I only wanted the skin…not the item
With the old transmutation system you had to destroy the item, now you can at least salvage them and get maybe some ectos and dark matters.
ONLY if the item can actually be salvaged to begin with. NPC purchased items are the issue right now…..what to do with them when unwanted (you CAN toss them in the Mystic Flusher) and how to get upgrades OFF them (currently only possible with a 250gem ($3.00 USD) item).
I hate how when you unlock a skin from an exotic it binds it. I only wanted the skin…not the item
Sell it then and buy back a green or blue version from the TP
There are MANY Exotic Skins that do not exist as other items. Your best bet is (per previous suggestion) salvage….at least you might get something useful out of it (and the skin unlock).

Might I suggest that you come up with a different term than “RAID” simply to disassociate this suggestion from “that other game”?
I think this event may be bugged on a particular server. Do a /ip and report the value after you “find” the Champion as I would like to investigate this.
Then again, after reading the rest of these comments, it appears they FUBARed removing the Champions from Starter Levels…..(accidentally adding one).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
My suggestion for this is that EACH of the methods should provide reduced quantity of ALL 3 required Ascended raw materials (or at LEAST 2). Bloodstone Dust should be reduced by 1/2 of current values (it’s been reduced once before). Emperial is fine as it is and Dragonite amounts should be doubled.
Just my 2 coppers.
BTW, you CAN play “how you want”, but you may not be able to obtain everything you WANT that way. You can play any way you want and obtain ALL of what you NEED to play the game, but want you WANT to obtain is something entirely different.
Just to clarify….Ascended gear is in NO WAY NEEDED (sans high level Fractals…..so that WAY may actually have a valid Manifesto complaint).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
While I get the idea to split for different gifts, they should NOT carry equal weight. It takes about an HOUR (no more than 2) to complete one of the WvW Borderlands maps (and longer for EB due to fighting). That’s a fraction of what it takes to get completion on the Open World Maps. NOT at all Equal effort.
Having to wait for your server to get a specific color borderland or control of a map location is NOT counted for how long it takes to clear the map.

This is a year-old necrothread.
Yes….but Necro is a class in the game….
I certainly find that my Asura can do Trolls End MUCH easier than any of my other toons…..but that may just be mental block I have. I do perform a LOT of other Jumping Puzzles on my Norns and it’s mostly just frustrating (but possible).
…..
i’d rather they significantly increase rewards for no deaths (in instanced content). that would go farther in promoting less “zerk or nothing” parties.
Now that is NOT a bad idea but could promote the “run away” attitude mentioned above. Still, in an instanced area, simply surviving an encounter does not mean you wold be able to complete the objective to gain the reward anyway (as others would likely need to survive as well).
In regard to the different “tastes” of game-play (Challenge vs Fun). I suppose either a selection at Character Creation or some NPC to alter the “hardcore” setting of the toon could be possible, but would likely create a caste system among the player-base that Anet would likely not want in the game (any more than there is right now between Hardcore Zerkers and those that want to play “how they like”).
……. But we currently have a system where stupidity isn’t being discouraged – in fact it is in most cases being rewarded.
I wouldn’t say it’s encouraged in MOST cases, but I agree it is not discouraged enough. Also, in many of those cases it is more “lazy” than “stupid”, IMO (tho there certainly plenty of both to go around).
Again, when the goal of the game for any player becomes obtaining the reward rather than playing the game for entertainment, this becomes an issue that is likely unavoidable. If the entire objective of the game is MOAR REWARDZ!!!!! then the player needs to reconsider WHY they are playing in the first place.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
I think the general Commander Tag system needs revision (so the actual Commanders can in some way be “rated”). Seen too many clueless Commanders for my taste while I would like to be able to identify those that are skilled (and there are a good many of those as well).
Keep in mind that Elona is that direction (and Cantha is South….tho it has been implied that Cantha won’t be happening). I guess visitors from Cantha aren’t out of the question (or are they?).
I agree that I hope they come up with something different than rehashes of LS1 enemies.
You take those tickets and go farm gauntlet. After that you open your bags and pray for a high value item. If you do not get one then go turn in your tokens for tier 6 materials.
Enough said.
I have NO desire to farm a build specific arena fight. Does not interest me in the least (sound like torture in the 7th plane of Hell to me).
Right click report for botting GG
This wont help at all. You are probably going to shoot yourself into the leg with that since Anet bans people who massively falsly report other people.
You need to prove that claim (and you can’t). How are you falsely reporting if someone is standing still for 10 minutes after hitting the boss 5 times?
What server do you play on in relation to your actual geographic location? If all lag issues are WvW or Dungeon related then the lag could be because you are connecting to a server halfway around the world in those situations. Many of the repeated issues I have seen are often players in EU playing on NA servers (or visa versa) or Pacific Rim players in general (as they have to go to either NA or EU servers). Also note that if you problem seem to exist at certain hours (like peak evening hours) it could indicate your ISP is throttling your bandwidth to the GW2 servers.
In general, unless a significant number of players (and I mean multi-hunred to thousands) see the same connection issues, then it is NOT an GW2 code issue….it is a latency issue to the server you are connecting to. The list of things that could cause a latency issue from your PC to the Server is about two dozen items long and only one of them is the Anet Server (and again, EVERYONE on that server would be having issues if it was a server issue).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
So what you’re saying is that you want Anet to take additional measures, beyond a player’s valid e-mail address, to request changes? You seem to have missed the simple fact that if a player’s e-mail is compromised, there’s nothing else Anet can do that the hacker wouldn’t have access to. You could have 10 extra steps involved, and the account would still be stolen. Why? Because if the e-mail account isn’t secure enough to prevent someone from taking it over, nothing is secure.
Each of us is responsible for protecting our personal information. Be it e-mail access, or account access. There’s no point in putting up more barriers, when the key barrier (the e-mail account) is already breached.
I’ve made this suggestion in the past (and been ignored) and always get this response from some other player. WHY do other players NOT want the system to be improved? I KNOW and have repeatedly acknowledged that this is NOT Anet’s fault, but improving a system does not always have to be about who’s responsibility it is to prevent the failure. I would pay RL money if I could tell ANet to Support to NEVER CHANGE MY PASSWORD WITH A SIMPLE EMAIL. Bottom line THAT would stop a significant number of hacked accounts.
My suggestion is simply that. If Anet REALLY wants to stop the obviously main source of account hacks these days AND reduce their overall Support resource demands, they would consider it. That is all I am saying.
I see NO reason why what I am suggesting would cause ANY additional work for Customer Service. There is ALREADY an automated email sent out from the ticket system and I have personally used Zendesk (what Anet is using for Support) and it has very easy tools to set up automated responses to include a link to the on-line web ticket submission page. The ticket would then be handled like every other ticket submitted via that AND would have info that could be verified rather easily (I’m hoping they have some automated system to throw up red flags if the info is missing or not even close to correct) by Support Agents.
I challenge anyone to prove that if 50% of hacks NEVER happen (I think this change would stop more than that), Anet Support would have MORE work to do. I think this makes sense and is a win-win for both players and the Support team. THAT is why I have been aggressive in making this suggestion when it seems appropriate.
If I am missing an actual down side to this proposed policy change, please enlighten me (and note, “Anet shouldn’t have to change it’s policy because your personal security sucks.”, is NOT an actual downside). Also note that I don’t argue that statement is false….it is certainly true, but what they shouldn’t have to do and what they COULD do to improve the system is my point.

Can’t this be reported via the in-game reporting system? Using the ticket system for this kind of issue is a waste of Cust Support resources (IMO).
You should check your email account for any suspicious activity (like requests to change your password YOU did not make). If a hacker has compromised your email account, they can change the password easily by a simple request email to Anet Support. They can then clean up any evidence of this transaction in your email (so YOU don’t realize what is really going on).
Suggestions: Change your email account password to something you have NEVER used before and is 10+ characters then look at any log in information on your email account to see if it has been accessed by anyone but you. If it has, I suggest abandoning the email account NOW and make sure you unassociate it from not only your GW2 account, but ANY other websites you have used it for (especially any Financial or Retail sites).
If that is NOT the case, then try this: When you log in UNCHECK both ’remember" boxes and manually type in the information to log in. If this works, then you can recheck them at a future log in. There have been some reports that those boxes can act strangely for certain players when logging in.

Introducing the megaserver in two weeks without reworking event scaling does not seem like a plan. It looks like a rushed emergency solution.
I agree they may have rushed it to full implementation, but what “emergency” do you see they solved? I think the consolidation of Servers is definitely the first step in a much larger plan to improve the game for veteran players (I suspect a “Hard Mode” of sorts is in the works).
As far as communicating their plan, how stupid do you think they are? Every form of advanced communication has been selectively quoted, twisted and often MIS-quoted to basically call the entire Dev team liars, cheats, incompetent and greedy. I don’t blame them one bit for not saying ANYTHING about what they are doing or planning.
I certainly don’t agree with everything they have done and I’m sure some choices they will make in the future will not be to my full satisfaction, but they have provided me with some enertainment value over the past 2 years, so I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
