If the giant drill thingy is coming down on LA i am not against it.. as long as they keep the ruins mostly unaffected.
I do not care much about the new stuff, since it is some patchwork design and destruction could lead to a much more interesting design that way, but if they destroy the fond memories of the old LA then i will be seriously sad
I’m hoping the shift of earth from the drill will bring back old LA and it can be rebuilt. Just like it was in all it’s epic glory.

Seeing as there are just 3 achievements in this update, which I did in about half an hour after running around EoTM for a bit. Seeing as this LW is just a WvW update really will there be another update next week? And on a side note, we only have 2 more till the finally right?

This^^. I could not wait to get out of there. I’ve done a bit of WvW. But all this may do is turn people who have never played WvW off it. If I had never played WvW and this was my first exsperiance of WvW, I would not be going back. People did say putting LW content in WvW was a bad idea.

I agree with almost all OP points.
I think Marionette has just the right scale, balance and mix of mechanics for open world bosses.Yes, “just the right scale”, which is why unless you’re in TTS or you hang out in a big server’s LP main all day, you fail the event 90% of the time.
I agree. I’ve not beaten Mario although I’ve attempted it on avarage 2-3 times a day. I’m sure I’ve been mega unlucky, but that said. Unless I’m lucky tomorrow the. Between work and social engagements that I can not miss. I’ll never beat her. I really don’t fancy more contnt that I’ll never beat. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had fun doing it. Its probably going to be here till march. Its definately going to still be here for the next release, i think colin mentioned in interview people would still be attempting it and edge of mists at same time

Your suggestion has only one flaw. Casuals will whine in forums “Why do we have to get bad rewards than that small portion of community? We are the majority, give us everything and give them immediately!”
I class my self as a casual player. I’ve been playing since launch. Not once have I asked for anything to b handed to me. I’ve asked for things to be made more fun. Like doing a long possibly time gated treasure hunt for precursors, and or legendary’s, making sure you could craft one way faster than the treasure hunt. As I would find that fun and I’m incapable of saving in game money. But I’ve crafted up acended weapons so it’s not an issue for me. So saying than we all want things given to us is bull. I’m sure there are players out there than after killing there first champ wanted to know where there epic loot was, can here demanding what ever it is, are probably teenagers who just want to stroke there egos.
I’ve enjoyed Mario even though I’ve never seen the event get past 2 chains. But the Wurm is not my cup of tea. It seems to have been made hard and with fiddaly mechanics just for the sake of it. I’ve tyres the fight 3-4 times and didn’t enjoy it once. But I’m sure there are people who love it and I’m glad there is content that will keep them going.
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
I think it depends on the server/time you attempt. I think most content has a sweet spot per server. If it’s not done on that server after 3-4 days people start guesting. Just my opinion I am in no way saying this is fact.
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
What is the general population of your server? Because on Crystal Desert we may have an healthy PvE population, but we are far away from some other server (our Zerg in Frostgorges Sound is usually small and we don’t do Teq. But still we have enough ppl to fill the main server and an overflow for most marionette attempts (at least when i play) and we succeed most of the time (when we failed its almost never because of too few numbers).
On our server, the last update help a lot the community. A lot more people go on the Teamspeak, people organize at lot in the map chat before the event and more Commander tag up.
We burn down The Shatterer and Claw of Jormag no problem. But I’ve never done Teq on FoW when ever I’ve gone there it’s been a ghost town. With that said I’ve attempted teq 4 times and have a 50/50 win lose against him.
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
First of all you don’t have two days, you have a week. This event last until Feb 4th.
Second this event has been very good for building community on most main servers. It sounds like you’ve got terrible luck with people on your server and I apologize for that. Guesting b/c they didn’t win and they’d rather go to a different server than keep trying for victory on their own? Talk about laziness and cowardice.
I don’t think the event itself needs a rework, I think the players on your server just need a swift kick in the kitten.
Yeah because that would work…………. People who are fedup with failing a event that many call easy and guesting to try there luck elsewhere are hardly lazy or cowereds. Everyone has a limit. Once you reach that they try another way. If this event has a retry after 5-10 mins so people know where they are going wrong and retry then maybe it would be better on all servers not just FoW. I remember one attempt of Mario where if it wasn’t for one guild the battle would not have got past the first warden. If they had not moved players to reinforce lain 5 we would not have got past one chain. That guild knows who they are, and I’m thankful for there hard work.

It would be really interesting to see official statistics for the Mario event, and a comment from the devs as to whether the numbers reflect their original vision. Since I already managed to secure my personal sprocket dispenser, I don’t have any particular interest in repeating the content, but in my opinion 90% failure rate for time-limited content is way too high.
The thing is, success rate doesn’t seem to go up with experience, which suggests that the event is poorly balanced, hitting a hard limit somewhere along the way. Whether it is the average player skill level, average player DPS rate or something else, ANet would do well to study why people fail the event despite generally knowing what they should be doing.
The latest (and possibly last) Mario event that I did today went like the following. It was the main zone, and we had more than enough players on every lane, with commanders in every lane. Strategy was discussed while waiting for the event to start, and people seemed to be well versed with the required mechanics.
I started on lane 1, and we cleared the first warden without difficulties. I and a couple of other seasoned players then jumped to lane 4 to reinforce it.
Lane 2 failed to kill warden 2 in time.
Lane 3 failed to kill warden 2 in time.
Going in the second time, we cleared the second warden without difficulties. I and a couple of other players then jumped to lane 2.
Lane 5 failed to kill warden 3 in time.
Lane 1 failed to kill warden 3 in time.
I should point out that our tower defense was impeccable, as can be seen from the fact that the event didn’t terminate even after 4 platform failures. So, in I go the third time. My platform team kills their warden without difficulty. Three other platforms soon follow suit. The last platform is struggling, with two defeated players. They rally heroically and kill the warden. When they are halfway through destroying the power node … timer goes to zero.
Platform event fails.
Mario event fails.
Pay for WP. Pay for broken armor. Thank you for having fun, ANet style.
I’m not angry, it’s more like I find it an amusing thought that someone actually sees this as great content.
I to would love to know how often this event sucseeded vs number of server/overflow attempts. It would seem to me, from my personal experience, that most of the people who play Guild Wars 2 are having big problems with the Mario fight. I’m sure some people/servers are having no problem. But as I’ve said, every attempt I’ve taken part in has failed. I’ve truer 15 times and failed 15 time to verging degrees. Never seen past the second chain.
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
If you really want to kill those boss so badly. You can try join organized server or guild(TTS).
I never succeeded in the Twisted Marionette event. But when I am dedicated enough to find the success server, I just go there 1 hour before it start and finish it without a problem.
Already tyres this. You still have to hope he other lanes know what they are doing. And seeing as I can only guest on 2 server a day. Kinda hard to fine a “winning” server.

|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
I’m fine with the difficulty of the Wurm. It’s here forever after all. But Mario, I’ve been trying 2-3 times a day and still not got past 2 chains. I’ve spend hours just waiting to get in a main server. I’m personally going to a lot of effort which I’m fine with, but as this is tempory content I think it should have been a little more forgiving. I think 3/5 platforms suck seeding would have been fine. But loot altered accordingly. Just an idea for the next time we have a temp world boss.
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
It is not the “elite” players’ fault if there are events open to everyone that require previous knowledge of what is going to happen, certain degrees/types of equipment, high levels even if the map itself is a low-level one and that can be failed due to a small amount of inexperienced or not well prepared players.
Blame the design of the events – the issues are all there.This.
The way this content was designed was with a particular play style and level of skill in mind, for both the Marionette and the Wurms. The reason peoplea re getting irritated and insulting players is because they’re getting fed up with loosing because of a few bad eggs who think it’s perfectly okay to come into content like this sub level 80, with no idea how to play their profession, with a mix match of affix gear and sub optimal quality (Blues and Greens), and jump right into the fights having no idea what’s going on, and likely ruining up what little coordination there is.
One person will not cause the event to fail. I’m sorry but that’s just bull.
[quite]This content was not designed with casual players in mind, period. Both encounters require a good deal of coordination, skill, and gear to complete, and when you have people coming into this content with none of those traits, it does in fact ruin it for the others.[/quote]
I’m sorry but that’s just bull. I class my self as a casual player, and to say I have no place doing this content is just crazy. I payed for the game, like you did. I but from the gem store every few weeks-month as you probably do also. So I don’t see how you have any more “right” to do this content over me, or anyone else for that matter.
I’m sorry, but one persons personal enjoyment does not outweigh everyone elses. If you don’t know how the fights work, don’t jump into them blindly. Read up on the encounters, wait until you’re level 80 or have gear that’s appropriate for your Profession and Play Style, and make sure you know how to dodge.
That’s right one persons personal enjoyment does not outweigh everyone else’s. But yet you seem to think you can tell people what content they can and can not play. And how to play. What level they should be. Surly this go’s against what you just said?
One person can ruin an entire marionette run if they don’t know what they’re doing, it’s as simple as that.
No. Just no. One person can not do that.
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
The new world bosses are staggered so they don’t overlap, and take time to complete. Let’s go with 20 minutes total for either event, on average. Assuming you logged in at the single most inconvenient time (one minute after one of the bosses depopped), you would then have to wait 39 minutes for the next spawn for one of the two new bosses.
I’m sorry you find that to be too long to experience any of the content. Perhaps instead of playing a genre that revolves around social interaction and a living world, you should stick to the single-player variety so you can make the most out of your 38 minutes of game time.
Ok at no point is I say I only had 38 mins to play. Second, I was asking if this was just a world boss patch. My criticism came from the in ability to do anything else to do with the living world between boss spawns. Unless I missed something. Hence me asking. Now back up and back off.

This LW patch are just 2 world boss fights that you can only do every 2 hours? So unless your on when he event happens you have no chance of doing any of the LW content for this patch? So basically if your a person who dose not have a lot of time to play each day you could easly miss everything? Really? This sounds as bad as the tequatl update that was passed off as LW. After the Tower of Nightmares I had high hopes for the LW content to come. Guess I’ll lower my expectations next time.

Dear Arena,
Attaining 100g or even 20g per day is a pretty easy tag. And even WvW badges. We need to have two types of commander tags, PvE and WvW. Plus give us the ability to block or disable view of certain commanders tags on the map. Problem is these are just useless pixel wasted on the screen with newbie commanders that wants to show off.
Even with player that have less then 3000 hours of game time experience in all aspects of the mechanics in a PvE they can get a commander tag.
i know its a prestige and also good way to show off, plus its a way for Arena to burn some gold.
3/4 the commanders in PvE, temple bosses and world bosses are just redundant and clueless. I.e. In one simple event, you can see more than 20-30 commander tags. Even in dungeon, i have partied with newbie that has a tag on all the time and clueless about what to do.
My suggestion to improve the value and function of commander tags.
1. Methods of Getting the Tag
- Guild Bound, meaning a guild of a certain size will have a minimum of two commander tags which can be assignable/transferable. But retains in the guild.2. Achieving/Buying the Commander Tag, don’t make the tag easy to get.
- WvW Badges (if its WvW Commander)
- Karma
- Gold (A lot of Gold + all dungeon tokens of all types 2000 each for PvE Commanders)
- A lot of guild influence
- Guild Commendation Tokens
- Minimum 3 characters world map completion or with completion quest of all dynamic events in the entire tyria to get a special commendation letter for commander.and for Guild Mission purposes, Guild can have a minimum of 2 commander tags which is visible only to Guild Members ! Just for Guild Mission use. Of cause they have to buy with the existing 100-gold (from guild and guild binding)
All I get from this is; some people anoy me, and I don’t want them to have a commander tag. 100g is not easy for everyone to get. Not everyone plays the same amount every day. Though could you tell me how you make 100g a day. That I would love to know. As for adding all the other things. Well, who would want to spend 2000 of each dungeon token plus gold and karma on a blue pixel? I think 100g is a bit on the step side for it but then no one has said I have to buy it.

Getting the mats and money is not hard, just time consuming. I’ve not even looked at Ascended armour. Hell I’ve only just before Christmas leveled my weapon smith up to 500 and made an ascended great sword. I too liked “Guild Wars Beyond”. I’ve still got to finish winds of change, I thought “War in Kryta” was amazing. I really enjoyed playing through the whole thing. I’m currently getting a toon to the end of proh so I can have max skill points before I try it again.
I never finished “Winds of Change” because I ran into . . . shall we say, a skill wall. It was harder than I had time to try and figure out a way to handle. But I enjoyed War in Kryta and Hearts of the North. Why was Kieran Thackeray so much better a ranger than I am now though?
I don’t have the option of one-shotting targets . . .
(Obviously for balance purposes but still.)
But with that said, and I’m no programmer, but with all the resources/map etc still there, how hard would it bet to just instance up the “story” part of the LW? So you could then relive the story eliminates of it, maybe with a cut scene to tie in the big group events, so that people who missed it could then live it a little. I don’t think you should be able to get the rewards that people got from doing it when it was there, but maybe give AP’s for “reliving” the LW.
Do you/Devs/anyone else think this could work/is a good idea.
I think it would be a wonderful thing if the old data was relivable through the Mistlock Observatory for a limited time after “Season 1” closes on Scarlet getting horribly murdered by everyone.
Yeah reliveable through the Mistlock would be the best way to handle it in game terms as well as lore wise too I feel. I’d rather see it a perminant feature though, maybe work the way PS works. One shot deal in terms of play, but per character, and maybe have it so you can party up, so you can help friends and people who have never done the content before. As an idea I think it could work.

The prob is, that GW2 doesn’t support after 1 year still not Direct X11, it would definetely make the game run smoother for alot of people, cause of the multicore cpus beign able then to give all of their power and not just only a few one…
I’ve a 8 core pc with 16GB of RAM and all of this power of my pc doesn#t help, due to the game not supportign so far DX11 >.<
The game would look so much better in many places with Tesselation and the other positive features of DX11, like those, that make particle effects look much better and realistical.
I would have thought that GW2 would not use DX11 dew to the game needing a graphix overhall to run DX11. Or am I wrong in thinking that?

I can’t help but thing that the Devs are throwing hard work out the window with the living world. They spend months bringing us content that just disappears. The only real change to the world so far has been to kessex hills. And I love it. I just wonder if this time/money would have been better spent on replayable content than what we’ve had.
Maybe, but nobody says any of this hard work is wasted. Code which works is never wasted, it’s put to use the next time it’s needed. Similarly with basic ideas forming the Living World.
Would it have been a better choice to have some of the living world as part of your personal story?
No.
Lots of people don’t bother with it, and there are pages of people who promise to never continue the Personal Story because of something. Tying the Living World story so it’s part of the Personal Story?
Like a big giant middle finger to the people who opted to leave it alone.
So you could have relived some of it with an alt, instead of it just being something you’d forget about by this time next year? I’m not sure once this living world story is over that the whole thing will be classed as a success. Do you feel that maybe this has been a wasted opportunity?
I think “Guild Wars Beyond” was a better envisioning of it, but at the same time it was clunky or poorly balanced in places. I also think their first year of the Living Story has been better than other major MMO’s attempts at the same (Everquest, I’m looking at you).
And before anyone mentions it, no, Ultima Online didn’t do much better. Events tended to just be for the top percentile of the servers . . . because as soon as it was in a combat-open zone they’d be the ones either eviscerating the content or ganking players who got something sweet they wanted.
I too liked “Guild Wars Beyond”. I’ve still got to finish winds of change, I thought “War in Kryta” was amazing. I really enjoyed playing through the whole thing. I’m currently getting a toon to the end of proh so I can have max skill points before I try it again.
If the living world was done like this I think it would be received much better. I know Guild Wars 2 a different animal and the exact same thing wouldn’t really work well with the way guild wars 2 is ment to be played.

LIGHT YOUR TORCHES. THE GROVE MUST BURN!!!
I’ve been saying this for over a year. Now where’s my cookie?
It was my understanding that fractals allowed you to experience the past, take part in an echo so to speak. Now if she’s seen a possible future, then doing the things she’s doing is not getting anyone ready. And if one of her plans/alliances had not been stopped then we could/would be in a heap of trouble. I think she’s more likely a servant of a dragon. I’m probably wrong, but I think the character feeds in the the serve to be saved. Kind of like Serin from Mass Effect. Thought it better to serve the enemy, than be wiped out by them.
Just a thought, something to mull over.

My rig is 7 years old,
Duel Core 2.66ghz
4GB DDR2 ram,
BFG9800GT 3GB DDR3.
It can handle the game running full all the time. Do you have a lot running in the back ground?

if the living story was an actual story instead of a bunch of achievements then we would not have this problem, i don’t play it because i don’t see a story in it, just a grind fest.
I have to agree with this post. I play the living story, or what I call it, the living achevments, for the game play. As far as I can tell, apart from the tower, there is very little story telling. As far as I’ve been able to see through playing the living world that there is no rhyme or resin to anything that is going on, other than the plant did it because she’s crazy, and likes making lore braking alliances, just for kicks. I have this horrible feeling that at the end of the plant story I’ll be left with just one question.
Can someone tell me what just happened?
And this bothers me as surly I should have some idea by now as to what is going on, other than the overwhelming feeling to comit genicide on the Sylvaria, and dance naked around the burning pale tree. Unless this is the feeling that ANet wished to create, then I say bravo. You’ve done what you set out to do.

I can’t help but thing that the Devs are throwing hard work out the window with the living world. They spend months bringing us content that just disappears. The only real change to the world so far has been to kessex hills. And I love it. I just wonder if this time/money would have been better spent on replay able content than what we’ve had.
Would it have been a better choice to have some of the living world as part of your personal story? So you could have relived some of it with an alt, instead of it just being something you’d forget about by this time next year? I’m not sure once this living world story is over that the whole thing will be classed as a success. Do you feel that maybe this has been a wasted opportunity?

The only thing I’d change about the game would be the LS and being able to do it at my own pace. I would also like to see more PS. I’ve never liked temporary content in a game ever. Just feels like the debs are wasting there time making it.

That would me a very good theory, but she is as mad as a bag of spiders. Granted it might be an act, but I’d believe I more if she was cold and calculating.
Like I said though, good theory.
Oh i would agree she’s mad but as we know with all sylvari
they go through the dream. Each telling them what they would do in the future. I can’t place it, but i remember something about Scarlet’s interaction with an azura who took the “orb thingy” that let you see the future. Stating something about it being interesting and sad that you gave it up.
In addition if what Scarlet saw was the complete destruction of Tyria though corruption wouldn’t you go a little mad..?
That’s the problem with knowing the future. If you try to stop something you could end up causing it. Knowing the future/time travel is always messy. Best not to go there.

What ANet need to do is the following. Make precursor’s drop more frequently, or have them at a greater chance from somewhere. E.g. Temple chests. Or add a very long scavenger hunt. With the end result being we can pick one precursor from there. Then you can get one that way. If they did that maybe one day I’d think about getting one

I don’t have the option of one-shotting targets . . .
