Im folding tin foil hats.. anyone want one?

Max, Aeneq knows how it can be done. We’re not just theory crafting here. He’s a programmer who explained in another thread that the widely used “harmless” TP 3rd party programs can be tweaked in such a way that they can become bots. We’re way beyond folding hats here.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/ gives you info on the buy/sell volume which you can use to help judge this (it’s not exactly what you want, but the higher the volume the faster it’s being sold).

Oh I’m well aware of gw2spidy, I just want the information to be more easily available and more detailed. The Average Listing Age would help users to quickly spot price spikes without the need to use an outside resource.

Mpt, that’s actually a really good and constructive idea to level the playing field a bit.

An authorized TP app could do the rest. To my own detriment, I still refuse to use third party programs (I loathe the TP notifier concept as a whole), but it’s a lost cause arguing why it’s not legit over and over again while Anet simply remains silent and condones this behavior.

And gasoline: yea, I did farm all my mats for my first legendary (lots of cursed shore) but bought the precursor after wasting about 400 to 500 rares. Actually, the crazy precursor price combined with a heavy DR policy is what drove me to sit down and take time to learn a bit how TP trading worked.

Risk/reward the base of any game
Totally unbalanced here……

The issue is the inflation caused by FALSE scarcity created by flippers.

They balance and nerf anything in the rest of te game not respecting their view of risk/reward….

So a lvl 80 FOTM player get slapped in the face while a TP flipper get each patch more rewards via rumors and patchnotes before release….

Go have a look at the price of linen, cotton, silk and gossamer right now.
You’ll see a huge downward spiraling curve. People that acted on “rumors” lost their gold bigtime today. You really have to qualify that “risk/reward” statement, for one because there is no risk when doing PvE/WvW, only reward.

Second, you are not “forced” to do the TP minigame. No one is. Scores of people acquired multiple legendaries without it. You started with the “speedclearer” comparison, I’ll finish it: speedclearers play content that gets them the most gold in the least amount of time. Even if it means doing one dungeon path all night skipping any mob that can be skipped, glitching through a dungeon in the most effective (read: exploitative) way. I did not want to participate in that, so I chose a “speed path” that fitted my playstyle better. I’m very glad I did, because it means I can enjoy content for what it is without stating on an official forum that by selling my items on the TP I am being “slapped in the face” – or other superlatives that are completely out of context and which – thus far – are devoid of any argument to back it up.

I’ll stop here: I wanted to help you formulate a good argument, because I actually believe there is some merit in it, yet all this has turned into is a rant against profiteering persons in the sky that make you a “victim” rather than a participant of the same system.

The only reason I’m on the TP is to avoid having to grind myself to pieces in order to obtain what I want.

i hope you realize that comes at other player cost……
Possibly you will find some excuse….but your fun comes at other players fun expenses….

You were doing so much better, and now you start being unreasonable again I’m not forcing anyone to sell stuff to me. In fact, I sometimes lose money on the transaction because prices tank to rock bottom. Those who sell items on the TP are not the “victims” you make them out to be. That is just a really bad argument, which only works counter-productive. Again, there are plenty of “traders” that believe in your cause, but being unreasonable is not the way to get anyone’s support.

And please read my post before responding, as I did with yours. You’d have noticed that I did not enter the TP game because it’s so much fun, I came there because the alternative – grinding an uphill battle against DR – is worse. I’d rather use my brain and get rewarded for it than get frustrated over my horrible luck in getting any kind of decent drop. Even now, with ~160 magic find, my drops are horribad. So, instead of complaining, I worked on getting decent at being somewhat of a trader (although I’m a dwarf compared to most), which improved my gaming experience. I now can just enjoy playing the game without getting frustrated over my horrible luck. I can even enjoy the TP game now, it’s relaxing in a way.

I don’t disagree with your feeling that playing PvE/WvW content and playing the TP is out of sync. I just disagree with the arguments made in support, as well as the conclusion.

I think that instead of limiting the TP, we should first look at limiting DR and increasing reward-based gameplay. I only reverted to the TP when I saw that the more I played, the less the game rewarded me. That’s bad; that’s the part that needs to be addressed. It’s at the core of the frustration of those that don’t want to use the TP to obtain coin. The only reason I’m on the TP is to avoid having to grind myself to pieces in order to obtain what I want.

Why do you need an expansion for a new playable race? I’d rather be constantly fed with new stuff than wait until eternity for an x-pac (which is always delayed a few times, and usually manages to kill off a large portion of the player base during the long wait).

No, I like it like this. All they really need to add at this point is skill-based rewards, including armors.

We all know TP is totally unbalanced as risk/reward….
We need several actions like the crystalline dust change….

[…]

TP related problems impacting non TP flippers should be discussed in general section…
Unfortunately being here, Its like discussing stealth in thieves forum …..

You’d be surprised how many people are willing to listen to reason when they see it and I do believe you’re in the right section for this discussion. I’d merely like to point out that the crystalline dust action was a fix to a widely recognized problem. Thus far, other than the empyreal fragments/dragonite ore availability (or lack thereof) I have yet to hear complaints about the availability of materials required for ascended crafting. Even when it concerns gossamer; you must have gathered at least a stack playing the game normally the last months. If you then sold it cheap knowing full well what was coming (ascended crafting), that’s entirely on you.

Buttercup.5871

They can get 100% margins expecially when some dev suggests them to invest in ascended crafting materials to resell later -.-

So “normal” players will have their expenses doubled…..

Ok, now you’ve gone one bridge too far.
“The devs” informed everyone, using every communication channel available to them. They did not do it to “tip off” the flippers. No. “Flippers” did not need any help in that department, because what “the devs” said was beyond obvious. What happened was that the devs informed those that did not know so as to best level the playing field.

I’d also like to point out that the “speedclearers” you speak of have a choice: sell the materials they get or save them for later (for example, because “the devs” told them these would become valuable). They generate the materials on the TP, no “flipper” can do that. The “flipper” can only react in that sense, his/her actions are bound by, or are the result of – the actions of those that generate the materials. For example, I’m always amazed when people decide to sell an exotic, event-based temporary recipe for 3 copper and later turn around and accuse the “flippers” that selling it for 3 copper was a bad decision. This goes two ways, don’t blame everything on the “flipper”, who in the latter scenario probably had to reserve several bank spots for those recipes for a period of 6 months before the recipe in question became profitable (with the risk that it would still be worth only 3 copper after 6 months).

In this debate, don’t just take any argument and twist it in your favor. There are reasonable arguments to be made; this is not one of them. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Oh please no! I’m very happy for the OP that he’s doing content which allows him to “swim” in these materials, I certainly do not. They are an incredible grind to acquire. We need more empyal shards, not less!

The problem appears to be:

PvE (temples) = get dragonite ore
WvW = get empyreal shards

Balance them out and you’ve got a more healthy situation.

Ugh Oh! U mean buy it? or bot it? No thanks. I spent $100’s of RL money to buy full sets of permanent gathering tools for all 9 of my char, why should i have to spend money now on buying those mats?

Think harder. You’ll eventually get it. It’s entirely legit and has been in the game since release. I’m surprised at your bluntness when I see not one, but two people that tried to help you here.

I don’t need your, or other players help to mine iron/wood, i need Anet to fix the problem, but tnx for your input.

Why create this thread then if you don’t need help? If you just want Anet to respond here, you’re in for a tough time, because they know they’ve implemented other ways leading to Rome – which you are unwilling to explore or even consider – and that the current market is sufficiently healthy with the existing crafting requirements.

When you read this, instead of immediately responding, take a deep breath, step back, and think. “What are three players alluding to that I’m not seeing?”

My help stops here btw. Had you been less dismissive, I would have pm’d you the answer.

Exactly, they don’t compete. The permanent bank contract gives you access to hundreds of items. The suggested account bag allows access to 3 to 10 items, max. The account bag is just meant to move your permanent harvesting tools and permanent contracts around from one character to the next without the fuss of waypointing both the giving and receiving character to a city, moving both to the bank etc. It saves players time, and generated money for Anet. It’s brilliant, everybody wins. Even those who have permanent contracts (arguably, they win even more).

If you do away with the TP, the whole game needs an overhaul. It’s simply not feasible, and it’s doubtful whether it’s desirable as well.

That is already in the game through a permanent and non-permanent portable golem banker.

The brilliance of the OP’s suggestion is that, due to the limited space of the suggested account bag, it doesn’t compete with the existing gem store items, such as the golem banker, but supplements them in a major way (which, as I explained above, will generate further gem purchases, so everybody wins).

This fills a vacuum not covered by the bank golem or the permanent bank access. It’s a very good idea that will only generate more gem sales (because you’ll need gems to buy it, and it gives players even more incentive to buy the infinite tools).

If you confine it to 8 to 10 slots, it takes a unique place in the game that no other item can possibly cover, especially if you’re dealing with 8 or more alts.

Best way to use Laurels for Legendary

I prefer to use my laurels (which would otherwise be sitting doing nothing) than to use the TP to get money. The TP for me is only a place where I can stuff I don’t need and buy stuff I do need.

And we’re not all that lucky with our drops. I’ve never seen a drop that is even close to being 330g worth…

Besides, why would I want to hold on to my laurels? In that case, I probably shouldn’t have bought the two minis and potion either…

You assume that this precursor dropped. It hadn’t. I had bought it a few months back at 180g. And laurels are needed for many interesting things, which amongst others include ascended recipes. 250 gold is not that much for me to sell it. 2000 gold sounds better…so I’ll hold onto all 3 types of monocles I have for now.

If you don’t need your coin to buy anything in the near future, ie you have no goal, you can do that. Otherwise, I would not gamble on a price rise, when the opposite could happen through factors outside your control. The aetherblades haven’t exactly left Tyria, so you are taking a gamble. 750g for 3 monocles at a 500 percent profit ratio sounds good enough to me not to take that risk.

Don’t those scrolls give a new character 20 levels and 15 skill points? If so, doesn’t that allow you to use those points in the way you chose is best (ie the MF)? And who will stop you from deleting that character after using the skill points, making a new one, and then rinse and repeat the above?

If that’s the case, didn’t Anet throw roughly 450g in your lap in skill points, assuming you know how to convert 1 skill point to 1g (I won’t help you there)?

Edit: do this right (ie finish the initial story line) an you’ll have 30 BL keys as well. Might be a nice additional incentive?

I was mistake on the number of charged lodestones for the legendary weapons. Still Mjolnir and Infinite Light require more and aren’t even legendary weapons. They aren’t even ascended at this point.

You can farm chests for these, combine pebbles in the forge, and open bags just to name a few ways of getting them. I don’t see them as any worse than charged lodestones and in some ways are far easier for me to get. I see 3-6 a week without trying. (these are from chests).

Did you read the part in this thread that opening 75 thousand bags, or forging 25 thousand pebbles isn’t a solution? Or forcing people to make alts to reap rewards for puzzles they didn’t do? Before you skip reading them too and respond anyway: these are generous estimates, the real numbers are likely higher (and not cheaper either, although that is merely a nasty side effect of the core design problem).

I doubt though that zergs will kill skritt rather than defend their keep or attack that of their opponent during a WvW season that rewards winners. So, more likely, it will attract farmers that take up a valuable spot on full WvW servers. Personally speaking, when I WvW, I want to help my server (gold league, currently 2nd place) win.

People have different options available to them in this game. Each of us makes the choice to go with the option we’re comfortable with. But remember, just because you pick an option you like, it doesn’t mean it’s the best choice.

Option C clearly isn’t the easiest option. But I’ll go with that I think is right. And unintended gameplay – or the promotion thereof – isn’t right. Neither is saying nothing about it when you know it’s wrong. In fact, it’s even worse if you defend it and you know it’s wrong. But we’ll leave that discussion for another time.

Then take it as directed at the generic ‘you’ you are so bravely championing.

Simple truth is if I can stack up 25 silver doubloons in two weeks and a total play time of under an hour without being even interested in the result, I DON’T BELIEVE YOUR PREMISE that they are too hard to get.

You’re essentially telling me to to delete three of my nine characters just so that they can do nothing but be a level 21 piggy bank and open chests at jumping puzzles they never really did. Or buy three additional character slots solely for this purpose instead.

I will not accept this kind of unintended gameplay. I’d rather bleed and buy the legendary straight from the TP than do that. It’s wrong.
