that will be a nerf. we always get nerfs
That’s how people recognized the leaked patch notes had to be real. True story!
OP, before you shout murder, check your sources. What you are stating is incorrect information.
Look at the Pax interview with Colin. It wil either be a legendary backpack or one legendary trinket. Cut it out with the pitchfork attitude and don’t believe everything you read.
They’re all green?
It depends how many mithrilium lumps are needed for the xunlai electrum ingots. And then, how many electrum ingots are needed, and for what? Jewelry, armor even?
I’m sitting on 150 laurels and I haven’t yet seen a good reason to let go. I gave one character full ascended trinkets, and stopped after that.
Laurels are banked time.
My pass will expire in 1 hour. Arenanet, please, DO SOMETHING! I’m starting to dread the moment that, that, my beloved area will not be accessible anymore.
The horror. The horror.
Maybe Gnashblade shut down the TP today to look for the missing Immobili.
Darn I read it the wrong way. Reminder to self: stick to work when at work.
(I read exos, not ectos). Other than that, I suspect the OP will be right regarding the influx of rares into the economy with the new update, but that that influx will be compensated by the introduction of ascended armor crafting, legendary trinket or backpack crafting (see PAX interview) and salvaging ectos for essences of luck.
(edited by Buttercup.5871)
We should send a rescue team to save any remaining Immobili left in Tyria.
If you happen to walk by a stray Immobulus, please remember to call: 280593-RESCUE-384820-284. Immobili can be easily recognized by their inate ability to remain absolutely still in one place througout their entire lifespan
(so that means more ectos being salvaged for dark matter).
I hope you are not salvaging your ectos to get dark matter.
Could you explain whether there is any other way? Don’t get me wrong, I’m swimming in these globs of dark matter, but I wasn’t aware there is another way to acquire them?
The ecto salvage return rate is rather holy. John has stated time and again that if anything would change in the ecto salvage return rate, it would be announced in advance. If anything changed, it’s the sharper result streak ratio, as I stated above. Not much more in the overall results.
You have to realize at least 2 of these threads pop up every month. Only once was it justified. All the mass salvagers, including myself, then reported the same thing. This is not the case here. Not even close.
We grind to 500 by putting the lime in the coconut.
But honestly, going through that much trouble for account bound food?
Please no.
You have to be addicted to the game first. Then you won’t see that you’re wearing a 10 dollar anymore.
Seriously though, how can you be broke when you’re literally running through goldmines at that level. Due to the ascended crafting, all mid level materials (ore, wood etc) are crazy expensive right now.
OP, you used to get 10 times more karma from the daily reward, which you probably completed as well while doing those events. The daily award – the karma jug – gave 6750 karma. The daily now gives 600 karma.
All I’ve noticed is sharper streaks. Like nothing x10. Or of 4×3 ectos. I haven’t calculated the average lately.
Edit: I should add that I salvage about 500 rares per week. Used to be a lot more though.

Vol, with all due respect, how do you know this to be true? Are you an alpha tester? If you’re not, and this is info has been relayed to you – directly from an alpha tester or indirectly – it doesn’t comfort me. A few months ago, I was told a bit more general stuff via via as well regarding an upcoming patch, on which I didn’t act (nor did I want to, but that’s beside the point). But it did concern the economy, I can tell you that.
Other than that: even if they don’t provide all the patch notes, as you say, it would surprise me if they would implement anything to do with the economy at the last hour. That stuff needs testing as well. So anyone stepping up to the forge and having a go at the crossing would have found out it was disabled.
Whereas over on the forum I mentioned earlier, two threads dominate the board, both containing giant leaks obtained via alpha testers regarding the next patch notes. With screenshots included.
Conspiracy theory my kitten.
as long as there is a theory that also fits without going to the extremes but still follow the rules that will most likely be the right one.
That’s just it. You’re switching the onus again. There have been at least four people before you that showed that there is no other logical explanation than the “extreme”, as you call it. Given that we only yesterday saw leaked patch notes (see reddit), again, way in advance of the patch, it’s really not as extreme as you make it out to be.
The real value add after the patch was that they would no longer be craftable.
Read it again. There will be no new supply to the market to meet demand.
That is true value right there and the reason why someone would want to buy up these limited items.
Right on the Money.
Can’t say more, too busy reading the leaked patch notes on reddit right now. They show the exact same format as the leaked patch notes from last time – which proved to be entirely accurate then, too.
Ohhh, Ohhhh, we’re doing horses! Hey, I have one for you, too!
Wow, that’s exactly the expression that came to mind when you called me stubborn! Amazing!
You gonna start using the old “rubber/glue” zingers too?
Absolutely not. I will never contest that I am stubborn. Because I am. I have no problem with people saying it. I do have a problem with people saying it while implying that they are not in the same sentence.
I and others in this thread have tried to show you that your logic is fundamentally flawed. I looked at what you said, and responded to the core of what you were saying, but did so respectfully. You never responded to anything I said, or anyone else said, you just kept repeating your belief that absent a screenshot nothing is going and all can be explained by the introduction of the MF change – while every detail in this story screams inside trading. You purposefully ignore the most obvious, and zoom on details which people have tried to show you make no sense in the larger picture.
My problem, and accompanying change in tone, is when you decided it was necessary to include your opinion of me, rather than sticking to the object and purpose of this thread. In fact, you didn’t just do that to me, but you did that to nearly everyone in this thread, derailing the topic at every occasion. Which leaves me with in serious doubt whether you’re not simply trying to have it shut down by the moderators.
Ohhh, Ohhhh, we’re doing horses! Hey, I have one for you, too!
Wow, that’s exactly the expression that came to mind when you called me stubborn! Amazing!
Ohhh, Ohhhh, we’re doing horses! Hey, I have one for you, too!
You’re also forgetting the one important fact of the Scientific Method I was trying to make. And that is, the conclusion is often theory. Did you catch that? Theory. Observed data results in theory until the theory can be proven as actual fact. Basic stuff Mr. Lawyer. You should know this.
Mr. Lawyer here, reporting. Ever wonder why the standard of proof is “beyond reasonable doubt”? And not “beyond any doubt”? I’ll tell you: because usually, it’s impossible for a chamber to “prove” or to be “100% sure” that the crime charged occurred. Based on the evidence led at trial, it decides whether the Prosecution’s case was proven beyond reasonable doubt. In doing so, it weighs the available evidence, assesses the credibility of witnesses and looks at, amongst others, the reliablity of the documentary evidence admitted at trial. It’s not a matter of following a mathematical equasion, even if you would want it to be so.
the crossing and the mad moon are skins and as it where stated that mf items would be taken off tp and made account bound then if you dont had a “the crossing” or “the mad moon” and you wanted the skins you would likely buy it and pay alot more then what you else would in the belief that you would not be able to get it anymore or atleast not into Halloween, and that could very well be the reason why the prices jumped at the last day before the patch, ofc it could also be inside tradeing.
Official blog post, 31 August, two days before the buy-out of the Mad Moon and The Crossing:
“The only exceptions to this rule are in some high-end weapons that will still get the ability to select their stats, but will remain tradable.”
In order to avoid panic regarding these items, Arenanet had explicitly eased the community’s concerns in advance. They promised that these items would remain tradeable. So anyone that would have acted on the MF patch information from the 31 August blog post would also have the information I quoted above.
Yes, I can explain it to you, as well as other’s have already tried. I’m not going to beat the dead horse anymore.
Do yourself a favor. Look up the information on the basics of the Scientific Method please. You might have a life-changing epitome.
And no, btw, I did not fail “university”; I graduated with Honors.
Whut?
OK, I am a lawyer. I’ll concede that my knowledge of the Scientific Method is limited. What I do know, however, is that this Method is “a method or procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.”
The underlying feature of this method is being able to replicate an event.
Think about it. Can anyone of us replicate the event? I sure hope not. Because that’s exactly the problem!
“Your honor, I did not commit murder! Yes, I was there, yes I had a gun in my hand, and yes I hated the person, but, but, you can’t replicate the event, can you? Therefore, I must be acquitted.”
There is no logical explanation for the extreme rise in price of the mad moon and the crossing one day before the patch. No other magic find item showed a similar pattern. Additionally, we were explicitly told by Anet that high level Magic Find items would not be affected by the patch in that they would remain tradeable. So in fact, this goes against your theory people should buy out the crossing and the mad moon before the patch. Based on all public available information, nothing indicated that anything significant would happen to these two items that would affect their price. Yet they skyrocketed one day before the patch. Huh huh.
You know, I’ll give you another theory. It’s funny, because one of the ascended weapons that came with the 3 September patch was named after it. It’s called “Occam’s Razor”. The simplest possible theoretical explanation for existing data is usually the correct one. I submit to you, based on all publicly available information, that the OP offers exactly that.
Going back the above example of the guy holding a gun in his hand at the time of the murder: all I want, and the OP wants, is for Anet to look at the security camera, and check for fingerprints. Because this case screams murder.
I just looked at the graph
If you go to around the 17th of August there is around 16 available.
Supply dips to around 5 on the 24th of August.
Supply jumps back up to 20 on the 28th of August.
On the 31st of august it looks like 6 sold that day
Supply drops to 5 around the 1st.
Doesn’t look any have been relisted.
The blog post about economy changes came out on the 30th.
In that blog post they mention Magic find items and selection of stats with some high end items retaining their stats. So that could have been a reason why so many sold that day.
So when you “looked at the graph”, did you disable the buy and sell listing price? Because your info ignores the elephant in the room. At all the dates you indicate, the price is hovering around 155-161g. As usual. The day before the patch, it jumped to 200g, a price point it had never reached before, and which cannot be explained by the mere magic find changes. If you can whip out 160g for a staff, the stats on it are pretty much irrelevant.
The only public info given, on 31 August in the official blog post, was:
“The only exceptions to this rule are in some high-end weapons that will still get the ability to select their stats, but will remain tradable.”
So did immobulus, infinite light, or any other high end MF weapon get bought up the day before the patch, and shot up in price? No. Just the crossing and the mad moon, the latter of which shows identical activity from 1-2 September as the crossing. (Apparently, arachnophobia wasn’t that interesting; I don’t like it much either, but that’s beside the point).
I can screenshot the jump in price on 2 September of the crossing, if you like. While interesting, you don’t need any more data than spidy already provides. It’s there for all to see. One day before the patch of 3 September, the item jumped to a price which it had never reached before, for reasons no one could remotely speculate on in advance. The jumping puzzle conversation, while interesting, is irrelevant. If I, with no interest in this item, had posted the spidy data on this item with a similar argument the OP makes, the resulting conclusion would and should be no different.
And please, for the love of this game, stop comparing this situation to the obvious speculation on wood for weapons and silk for the upcoming armor. That made sense. This doesn’t.
(edited by Buttercup.5871)
What the heck is wrong with some folks here? Ya’all look at spidy as the end all be all as “evidence” for all kinds of junk, yet when it comes to an extremely obscure item like the crossing, which jumps up in price the day before the patch, poof, from 160g to 200g, higher than ever before for no reason anyone could even remotely speculate on in advance, and you don’t include/consider this data as part of your discussion?
C’mon. It was inside trading. Don’t beat around the bush. I’m glad the OP brought it up, because there’s only a few people in this game that will have been involved on this market. I could think of no ill motive on the OP’s part to bring this up, either. Due to the obscurity of this item, a thread like this is neigh irrelevant to the prices on this market.
Purge this game of inside traders. Terminate their accounts and the accounts of their inside trader buddies. Use a blunt pitchfork to delete every item in their inventory, one by one, preferrably while they’re watching.
(edited by Buttercup.5871)
There’s people out there right now spending as little as possible and farming like fiends to make their legendaries (good luck) with sole intent to sell them. Suddenly making them account bound isn’t going to be fair to those people, when hundreds of other players have already sold their’s for major gold. Legendaries probably shouldn’t have been sellable from the start, but since they were changing it now just isn’t going to work because Anet doesn’t want that backlash for someone who FINALLY got their precursor and went to sell but couldn’t.
Any change that affects legendaries shakes the economy like mad. If legendaries were to become account bound, you wouldn’t know about it until the patch hits.
(Well, you would know shortly before the patch hits – thanks to all the lovely inside trading that can be seen as of late).
So, whether it’s fair or not, it won’t be announced unless you want to temporarily pay 50 silver per t6 material between the time of the announcement and the patch in question.
LOL wow just wow, someone felt they needed to troll me so hard that they actually logged into game and found my character I was playing and whispered me something trollish before either blocking me or logging off as fast as they could!
I was just posted about how wrong it was earlier to expect people to reach max level before gathering these materials from champions in the crafting forum because I noticed it on my low level toon and I guess I hit a nerve.
All I can say is if these forums incite you to this much rage don’t read them whoever it is.
Oh man that’s pathetic. I guess someone was afraid of public scrutiny? There is also nothing new in the information he wrote, and it completely ignores the actual concerns voiced by you and others. Namely, that it’s not the extra work that is the problem, but the fact that it shouldn’t be necessary in the first place to acquire max stat potential. And that enjoyment isn’t gained by grinding through additional tiers, but by the quality and quantity of the game’s content.
That said, and although I’m divided on the addition of this tier, I do admit this addition pushes players into exploring more aspects of the game they would have otherwise ignored. For example, I had never bothered with chests before, whereas now, I actually enjoy a little chest race on 4 characters from time to time. Or solo-cap a few WvW camps, which is risky but fun. It’s a bit like the Liadri fight; it forced you to think about your character’s skills, whereas this one forces you to explore other parts of the game. You might not like it at first, but it could well change/enrich your gaming experience for the better. Then again, it may not, in which case the ascended tier kittens.
Titles can be as far-fetched as a gaming company likes, it makes little to no difference on your rights as a consumer.
That’s actually debatable, but yeah I’m not going to court over it even if we would never get guild wars
Ok. I wouldn’t have used the word “demand” in that case. The only way to enforce your demand that Anet implements a feature of this magnitude – which would most likely take a year to develop and consume all of Anets available resources in the process – is by way of a court order.
That said, I like the WvW example. It’s actually quite a nice way to describe the warring factions in WvW.
The Guild Wars happened even before the events of gw1. They have absolutely nothing to do with both games at all. The reason why this game is called guild wars is beyond me.
Essentially this.
It is misleading for anyone who hasn’t read the lore of GW1 or GW2 before buying the game.
Therefore, I demand that ANet adds proper guild wars in our Guild Wars 2 game to stop misleading customers.
And by proper guild wars I mean something like this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/So-When-are-Guild-Wars-coming/first
By that token, you might as well force other MMO’s to change their name. Like EVE online, named after a space portal through which humanity travelled thousands of years before the player story starts [disclaimer: I haven’t played this game].
Whether you like it or not, release titles are chosen based on their potential to sell to a wide audience. That’s it, nothing more to it. If this game had been called “Grapes of fury”, with a picture of a dionysos look-a-like on the cover, you’d still have no case. Because there’s grapes in the game that you can harvest. And a boon called fury. And gods.
Titles can be as far-fetched as a gaming company likes, it makes little to no difference on your rights as a consumer.
Is this a joke?
You get 2 to 4 shards for capping a camp. Progression of obtaining shards through WvW is superslow. It’s way faster looting Queensdale chests on 4 characters. And then it’s still slow.
Liadri. When I killed her in the last second, downed, just before the floor opened.
In addition to my trahearne quote, above, I believe there’s a book/scroll in malchor’s leap [click: read, read further, etc] that explains what “the guild wars” are.
Edit: found it: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Orrian_History_Scrolls

Spoiler, personal story. Regardless of which order you pick.
“Trahearne: They say that Orr was once beautiful. A nation to rival Kryta, Ascalon, and Elona.
Trahearne: The human gods lived in the city of Arah, and the people here were blessed.
Trahearne: After the gods left, the humans banded into guilds and warred upon each other.
Trahearne: The Guild Wars caused great devastation, and the nations faltered.”

If they increases the supply of precursors, your title would read “Supply of t6 materials too low”. Which would probably be worse for the economy as a whole.
And it never ends, too. If they increase the supply of t6 mats, the title would read “supply of [insert needed material] is too low”. There will always be a bottleneck. If there would be no bottleneck, the title would read “My legendary is not special, everyone has one”.
Given that legendaries are a long term goal which are supposed to distinguish you from the crowd, there has to be a bottleneck somewhere. The least damaging bottleneck for the economy (and new players entering the game) is, most likely, the precursor. I’m just guesstimating though, which is my self-proclaimed specialty.
Or it was done to avoid crashing the prices of exotic equipment.
If you can buy exotic, why buy rare right? Just go straight to exotic. Hence the prices of rares are a tenth of an exotic. Same thing could happen if you’d allow finished ascended weapons on the market.
Then, there’s the time factor. It’s a big hassle getting all the account bound mats, like empyrian fragments and dragonite ore. The vision crystal is the time-limiting factor to ascended gear. It’s the factor that was introduced so that the economy could adapt to the ascended tier gradually.
Other than that, it’s currently one of the biggest money sinks in the game (the TP being the biggest sink), as each person has to individually level up weapon crafting to 500, which is incredibly expensive. The economy was inflated (invasions, champion farming, gauntlet farming) on purpose because room was needed for the imminent deflation that this update would cause.
Just my 2 cents really. Take it with a grain of salt.
It depends whether precursor crafting will be tied to the introduction of new legendaries. I could well imagine that they allow you to craft precursors to the “second series” legendaries only. In which case precursor prices for the 1st series legendaries -ie. the current legendaries- may well go up instead of down (because less people will try to mystic forge them, decreasing their supply).
Ascended trinkets are already easy to get through many ways in the game. They wont ever be able to be crafted^^. Do speculators even got a brain?
We already know legendary trinkets are coming out this year with visual graphics.
So yes, I do have a brain. Do you have eyes/ears?
Vol, thanks for this link, that’s a great interview.
I focused on what Colin said on this point. The interviewer, Matt, rightly referred to Anet’s quote on the coming of new types of “legendary gear”. Matt then speculated it would be legendary trinkets. Colin then said it would be one type of new legendary item that would be introduced this year, so as to not make it too difficult on the players to catch up with the new gear. Now comes the important part: Colin said it could be something like amulets, rings, acessories or backpacks.
The interesting about this is: backpacks had not been mentioned by the interviewer. Yet Colin mentioned backpacks. Not quite sure what would be needed to craft backpacks, since we can’t craft those yet. But it might not involve a single opal or jewel. While it is very likely that it would be covered by the jeweler craft, given that the backpack is right next to the trinkets on your screen, it could also be covered by every single craft in the game. Cool flying dragon backpack by armorsmithing, cool rainbow phoenix by weaponsmithing, etcetera. That approach would really make sense, in my view, as it further encourages players to the many crafts this game has to offer.
To sum up, we just don’t know whether a legendary trinket (amulet/accessory/ring) will be introduced; it might just as well be a backpack – for which the crafting mats are a completely unknown. To speculate this hard that a new legendary trinket is coming is taking quite a chance, in my view.
(edited by Buttercup.5871)
Aion had a solution to this. Allow us to break an item and get 2 of the lower tier in return. Double clicking was all it took.
I will miss that area as well, once my pass runs out tomorrow. Didnt even know it wont be availalbe anymore otherwise i would have bought a couple.
In the meantime, you will find me in Ebonhawke. Quite place with guild bank and BLTP right next to all profession crafting. The only downside is no MF and higher waypoint costs because its on the rim of the map-
Rata sum is even better. The accountancy waypoiny is my standard waypoint for all characters. All but one, she has a pass. Royal terrace -> all. Even has a mystic forge and personal myani.

Don’t discount the skillpoint exploit. Started plummeting much more after that.
If true, the idea that someone at Arenanet is allowing (intentionally or not) a select few to make massive profits they otherwise shouldn’t be able to make is a disturbing one.
“Allowing” is not the right word. They need testers. Everyone benefits from good testers. Just not corrupt ones. They need to clean their house.
Ice cream is your friend. Karma food is the new magic find ya’all. It adds up in the end.
Agreed, but most wont.
Most people only used karma boosts to stack them all at once and funnel in all their karma consumables in one big keg-stand.
Me included. But people need to adapt and think ahead. Karma will once more become a necessary but rare’ish currency. Like laurels, it’s banked time.
Correct. There is no point anymore. At all.
Ice cream is your friend. Karma food is the new magic find ya’all. It adds up in the end.
My pass still works. Got it as a drop on the last day.
