AMD performance updates?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Caedmon.6798

Caedmon.6798

I dunno specifics in the case here.
What I do know is forum after game forum (different games) AMD CPU systems users
are the ones barking about poor performance. I can cite one recent example as it is
fairly fresh in my memory , Saints Row the Third.

I would caution ANYONE thinking of building a nice new shiney GAMING centric
PC to think hard before going with AMD CPUs.

I"m not a AMD hater. I have two other PC"s in this house that have AMD CPU’s. One is a laptop, not used for gaming other than solitare like things, and a bedroom PC who’s main job is multimedia and recording of cable programs. AMD works fine there, quite happy with it.

For my gaming PC I did the leg work years ago to learn which was best. I made the switch to Intel on those machines not long after the years of the 486 architecture years.
Latest Intel I5 and later series just a flat out far superior for a serious game machine.

Yes, feel free to disagree. Feel free to pay attention to hundreds of game forums and find like me, who is it that seems to have the most problems when it comes to poor
game performance as it relates to the CPU. AMD.

I hope Arena Net can nail it down for you that have the systems. I really do.

Saints Row Three developers never did, nor have other game companies. I can’t begin
to characterize why that is, it just is.
There is only one thing in common in the cases I’ve seen, and it isn’t Intel gaming grade CPUS.

You sir, should open your eyes and learn to read the forums.People with intels mostly complain about bad performance aswell, its the engine, not the cpu’s.My fx 8120 runs this game butter smooth.Stop giving bad advice to people,AMD’s are perfectly fine for gaming.

In my opinion: this game is simply not addictive

You can make a huge amount of builds using all the different weapon combinations + heal/utility/elite + traits.

might i had; you can change most of it on the fly?
and traits are actually changeable too?

so, experiment. every situation requires some tweaks.

and i’m quite TOTALLY certain you havent mastered your class.

if you want to keep using always the same build, blame it on yourself.

No i blame it on the lack of customization and lack of skills to use.if some skills or weapons dont appeal to me,why should i be forced to use them ? if you say stuff like that im Totally certain you never played gw1.In Gw weapons also had diff set of skills, but you had a Much Much greater variety in choosing a build,gw2 misses this, and imo its a Huge miss. Were talking about a skillset like we were able to use in gw1.Its all been simplified now no matter what build you choose, there are not enough different ways to go.

I can see you would rather have something like the GW1 skill mechanics over what we have here. I may even agree with you, but the fact that the way GW2 handles the weapons and utilities skills was known to us for such a long time, I really don’t think we are entitled to complain about it at all.

It is the way this game was made. This is not Guild Wars 1, this is Guild Wars 2, a completely different game using the same world, on a different time, as setting.

I don’t believe this game will ever catter to every kind of playstyle. It’s an impossible feat. No game will ever be able to do it. Please people, stop complaining about core mechanics as those are not going to change. Those are part of the game identity and are here to stay. Either deal with it or go play something else.

Yes,indeed i would rather have the same amount of skills to choose from like in gw1.This can still be changed, more skills Can be added later with patches or expansions, you cannot tell me you’re not getting bored of using the same type of skills every time right ? Or do you honestly say you switch alot of skills and weapons in pvp matches ? Or do you see yourself in the future not getting bored by the sheer amount of skills we are able to use as of now ? At start i switched alot of utilities tried diff weapons,a few weeks later ive figured it out and know whats best to use, there is no reason for me to switch to another weapon or to even change my traits or utilities. If you know whats best, your gonna stick with it because you dont have any other choise.

@Caedmon
As for what I said previously about more skills coming from expansions.. I’m not saying that I think they will throw a large number at us or anything like that, but I do think they’ll give us a few… Right now there are 5 types of skills for warriors (banners, signets, shouts, stances and physical abilities).. even that I think is fine, but there are only 4 skills of each skill type.. It’s not unreasonable to think they might give us 1 skill per skill type per class in each expansion, adding to the complexity and depth of each class. Maybe even less than that, who knows, I’m just saying that I think it would be nice.

I certainly hope so,because as much as i love this game.I just cannot see myself using the same set of skills in every pvp match i go in..its already starting to irritate me,i dont even switch my utilities anymore because i know the ones i use now work best.In gw1 on the otherhand,i spend weeks figuring out different builds different second proffessions, whats best in each situation against a single class or against multiple enemies..god i wish gw2 had the same amount of skills and again..a second profession ( just by adding a second proff would fix this issue and add so much variation. ),this just feels way to easy.

There needs to be an upgrade system where each item starts out at +1 and you can upgrade the stats by upgrading the item to +2 or +3, etc…

Each upgrade comes with a 50% chance of failure which would destroy the item.

This would add a whole new dynamic to the trading post and the in-game market.

Imagine Legendary items at +10.

Perhaps each time you upgrade the item it shines more or has more elemental effect to make the item looks cooler.

Like aion and hundreds of other mmo’s ? Nah,not needed.And please..no shiny,glowing items…cant stand it.

I do wish gw2 had more skills to choose from.Or like gw1,a second class too choose from.I do feel there is much to little variation in the set of skills im able to use.Im a warrior and double axe or GS are the weapons i prefer, not fighting with sword and shield,or with a mace, its not my style. So im always stuck with the same skills, nothing i can do about it. ( can change some traits but i really feel like its not enough to keep me interested ) It does make me feel like every pvp match is gonna be the same ( for me ).It would make the game so much more interesting to have again like gw 250 + skills too choose from or a second class,it gives so much more variation to the current gameplay,i honestly dont understand why this hasnt been implemented from the start, its been made too easy.Only being able to use 8 of the 250+ skills you had was such a great thing in gw1 imo,and it took me such a long time to create perfect builds for every situation, but it was fun. Here i run in with the same builds ,press the same buttons do the same things..basically in every round or against every mob,and yes its starting to bore me..the pvp aspect that is,every round is the same.Whereas i felt like playing gw1 every round felt different because of this huge amount of skills we were able too choose from.

What are the specs of your computer?

wtf?
and why her specs matter?
obvious something wrong with GW 2, nothing to do about
a lot of people have the same problem

Lol. Because specs do matter. If they are having problems running the game because they are on a pentium 2 with a voodoo xtreme graphics card then do specs matter or is it just the game that sucks?

“…But given the fact that it can run games such as Crysis and Mass Effect 2 should be enough reasons to believe my computer should be able to properly run Guild Wars 2.”

For me, he is absolutely right
Guild Wars 2 just sucks at optimization
bla bla bla, its a MMO
Tera Online have better graphics than Guild Wars 2 and its much more smoothly

Tera online wasnt smooth at start, had alot of optimization problems, you would know if youve followed the forums. Its based on the U3 engine, thats been optimized to death and been used dozens and dozens of times in alot of games,so developers have clear understanding how to optimze the engine to the bone. You want to compare an engine like that with the gw2 engine ? And in all honesty, you cant say i run mass effect and cryisis so i can also run this game, its an unrealistic and dumb thing to say.

A. SLI works fine. Driver’s may not be optimized but thats up to Nvidia, not Anet.
B. DX9, er most people can’t run DX9 fast, and you want tessellation?
C. Seriously, I’ve seen I don’t know how many people complain about a 64 bit client. Name one game mmo or otherwise that uses a 64 bit client and/or gives you access to a 64 bit client. The performance gains will be marginal and won’t make the game any more playable for those people complaining about FPS issues on their 4 year old computer.

Its not about tesselation, please do a google about how faster dx11 is compared to dx9. 64 bit client >>> AION.Performance gained from playing 32 bit or 64 bit in aion, was huge in sieges most of all.

You must know best bro. ;-)

He’s not kidding. Overvolting your GPU does absolutely nothing for performance. Repeatedly saying you did the impossible doesn’t make it any more possible.

If you overvolted AND overclocked….possibly, or overclocked, and didn’t overvolt, possibly. Overvolting is just putting more juice through the GPU and generating more heat. It is simply not possible to get greater performance by overvolting alone.

When I switched my card from 0.987V to 1.000V, my GPU clock jumped from 850MHz to 892MHz. Now what matey ? Did I overclock it while overvolting it or what ? I did say in my first post “…thus increasing GPU clock”. Sorry, I can’t teach you to read.

People are trying to give you advice, warning you about gpu damage and upping voltage not being recommended.Yet you like to behave like a kitten against people trying to help.Congrats with that mate, ill just leave you at it then.

Why is it called "Guild Wars"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Caedmon.6798

Caedmon.6798

The Guild Wars are the series of at least three wars among different guilds in the three human kingdoms of Ascalon, Kryta, and Orr. The wars ended only because the charr invasion from the north meant an even bigger threat to the three kingdoms.

The second Guild War was memorialized by the construction of Surmia in 1020 AE. Ascalon was the kingdom victorious of this war according to the Historical Monument of Surmia. It is unlikely that the war ended during 1020 AE, however, due to the length of the latest Guild War.

The most recent Guild War lasted for 57 years (from 1013 AE until 1070 AE). The war caused much suffering and hatred between the people of the three kingdoms. These old wounds can be seen in the present day in the form of the mistrust King Adelbern holds towards the efforts of Kryta to help Ascalon recover from the charr invasion, particularly towards Ambassador Zain. During this war, King Adelbern was a war hero which led to his eventual crowning as a king instead of Barradin becoming king.

While there have been many Guild Wars prior to this one, when characters in the game refer to the Guild War, they mean the last one which ended with the Searing. While initially confined to a conflict between guilds, when open combat erupted in the streets of Arah, Orr responded to protect its holy city. The military action against Krytan and Ascalonian guilds spurred the other nations into responding, leading to open conflict between the three nations.

Can’t edit message for some reason… I wanted to copy this last piece about Clock-Skew

“Most overclockers leave clock skew adjustments at their factory default of “Auto.” The problem is that when overclocking at higher frequencies, the auto control does not adjust precisely enough to keep your overclock from crashing, hence a manual setting is often needed. Also, “Auto” cannot compensate sufficiently to resolve some memory compatibility problems."

Thanks caedmon, but that’s where I got this setup from in the first place :-/. I’ve tried many, and I’m by no means an expert, but it runs my CPU very cool and every game except GW2 stable. No blue screens, nothing.

Oh that sucks mate sorry..It could be that it really just needs some extra juice because i think your CPU Voltage is really to low for the OC yu currently have, meaning it Can be right for some games but in some other games that make extreme use of your cpu like GW it may crash as it does now.You can also try to Underclock your mem to keep it at about the same as factory speed, since you barely notice an fps increase while upping ram speed anyway and it can mess with your oc being stable. It can also be due to LLC.

“Enabling LLC disables vDroop, goes against Intel’s specifications, and allows dangerous voltage spikes when overclocking like this. If it were a really small overclock, then I guess I wouldn’t be worried. Or, if it were a 65nm CPU, then I wouldn’t be worried either because Intel’s 65nm CPUs can handle vDroop being disabled (or in other words, having LLC enabled). "

“This doesn’t mean that the CPU would die after 1-3 years, but it just means that it’s possible that its overclockability could either be reduced or eliminated – depending on the overclock and the voltage used. "

Please have a look at this site about CPU-Differential amplitude http://www.overclock.net/t/746652/cpu-differential-amplitude-bios-setting-and-how-it-helps-i7-oc-stability

I know you’ve been seeing the rage on the forums about the terrible performance on the majority of systems in the game. Why play it off like its not anets problem? People have been posting dx reports for almost a month now and we haven’t seen any updates on any of our issues. It’s not a complex issue at all!! Gw2 does not properly utilize any of our parts, which explains my 20% CPU usage.

Instead of asking for an overwhelming amount of dx reports, start posting results or give us an update Atleast!

Really ? Then…How about post the fix for Anet to resolve this issue …..? Since its not complicated at all to resolve this..
