Although it sounds like you just need help with basic game mechanics. Double tap your movement key to dodge. This will negate all damage thrown at you during the dodge. Just pull a couple mobs at a time. Start out in rifle just autoattack ing, then swap to bomb kit. Try another races zone. I remember my first charr was a tad more difficult than my others because thyre zone has lots of things like that. Try out the human zones. Med kits probably my favorite heal for leveling, since you can drop all the bandages before a big encounter. Also remember with medkit your main heal is your f1 key.

So i had one more idea, at least for human mesmers. You can use reaper of grenth as your elite, providing poison which we have very limited access to, and chill, which synergies well with the whole lockdown concept.

Condis in PVe are generally useless since people will overwrite your stacks constantly. But if you must, just use whatever you do for WvW.

With 25 stacks of might and sigil stacks, not hard with chaotic interruption, in scepter youre hitting 3200 condi dmg!!! Perplexity runes synergies insanely well with this. ( i wish they weren’t considered OP). And on top of that every interrupt immobilizes for 3 sec with a chance to chill, cripple or blind. Seriously this looks hilariously fun and i think at least needs a little testing.

The only thing that will benefit from the 6th rune of water will be your Medi-Kit’s tool belt heal. Bombs and Kits won’t trigger it.

Actually any #6 ability will trigger an on heal affect. Therefore you can use the 10sec ICD on the runes to great advantage. It also works using the #6 on an endless tonic, which mesmers do all the time with centaur runes.

Thats still nearly 100 more health running with 1963 healing power. Bombs heal for 341 each, 1/2 second cast time. After the patch theyll heal ~440 each. Thats 880 HPS if youre spamming bombs, which i dont advise, but its cool just to look at numbers the regen boon heals for ~ 400, and backpack regen is ~270 HPS. Now take the 1875 every 10 sec from the runes and divide by 10, another 187hps. Each bandage has a 12 sec CD and heals for 1.9k, and theres 3, which equals another 475 HPS. Now take in medkits f1, heals for 6.9k on an 18 sec CD, which is another 383 HPS. Now add it all up, its 2583hps, if you use everything on CD and are auto attacking with bomb the whole time. Now thats not always possible of course, and not very smart, but you can get a basic idea of how much an engi can heal for. Im not even taking EGs #5 into account here. Now take into account nearly half of this also heals up to 5 other people around you. And yet people think warrior regen is OP?

Honestly, depending on how much healing the runes give you on switching to medkit, I could see using P/S and healing turret for those water fields in a group fight. It would significantly add to your group support. Havent put much thought into which runes would go well with that tho. Altruism maybe?

With the amount of healing power im running with, each bandage is 2k and the f1 is 7k. Those runes heal 1875 every 10 sec to 5 people around you. Thats so much better than healing turret or swapping the runes

Each interrupt stacks 9 confusion, whereas other perplexity users only stack 5. With your 3 interrupts and the x4 on the runes, you can stack 30 stacks quite easily. Search “Gw2 warrior auto kill build” on YouTube. Joseph Wagner is the one you wanna watch

A pure melee build on any class is really asking to get walked all over by certain builds / skilled players.

Where did you get the idea im hating on ranged? I love LB, probably my favorite weapon on warrior other than axe and hammer. It just doesn’t synergies well with a lockdown approach.

are you sure you know how chill works? because 3 sec won’t have much effect on cooldown – if you stay chilled for 3 seconds, couldown is increased only ~2 seconds (that is cooldown instead of tick reducing 1s per second, ticks only 0.33s per second)
factor in typical solo roaming opponent is likely to have -40% condition food too, bam.. no effect

also you don’t seem to have any ability to escape if you encounter more then 1 opponent in open field – something that is a must have for any solo wvw in my opinion

Sure you could. But chances are youll come back to try and kill me, and you’ll have no stun breaks left. After that ill proceed to chain CC you to death, not allowing you to even move an inch. You can lock down someone for 14 sec

Nearly 1700 power when you use SoR and arcing arrow in your fire field. 61% crit dmg and 50% crit chance, as well as 1100 condi dmg, 100% bleed duration and 50% for everything else. You also stay at 1950 toughness and 21 health. Final thrust will hit for 2k on a non crit

This build was designed with as many knockdowns, stuns, knock backs and dazes as possible. Nothing is more frustrating to your enemy than being stuck doing nothing, and this build excels at locking them out of ever doing anything.

It uses Ma/Ma + Hammer. I put in UF in master in anticipation for the nerf. Bulls charge is to add some much needed mobility to the build, as well as another knockdown. Sigils of hydromancy in both swaps so that even when they aren’t stunned or knocked down, their skills will take forever to recharge and theyll be slowed really badly, allowing you to get on them and CC them to death. It also uses the traits, runes, and food that allow for unkiteability, which is important for a full melee low mobility weapon set like this. Its all about countering your opponents, “oh you want to heal? Too bad bulls charge” or “oh you’re gonna unload your burst on me?” Nope, CCed until theyre dead. Only thing thatll give you trouble is someone with lots of stability, and without a way to strip it, it kinda sucks.

Another thing you could do is try a hybrid build. Works really good with Sw/Sw and LB since theyre probably the most hybrid weapons in the game.

Dont level solo in WvW. Follow the Zerg and youll have a much better time

Thats exactly what i tried to do, make a more offensive version of it. I find offensive builds tend to work out better for me for roaming in WvW and i feel fairly comfortable on when i need to retreat and how to stay alive through timing and skills other than toughness. Not quite there yet with Mesmer though.

The reason i grabbed the signet with the GS is because with staff im potentially getting a lot more interrupts. I wanted to somewhat minimize that with the signet. But what if i used crippling dissipation over the GS trait? Keeping the enemy far away is important with the GS. Im just trying to decide if CD reduction or crippling is more important. I may swap the signet for blink or decoy, ill have to test out all 3. If i choose blink ill possibly trait manipulations in dueling as well.

My other question is what does more for me, the quickness on interrupts or dazes into stuns? I feel like giving up bountiful interruption is just not worth it.

Edit: i looked at the balance changes for Mesmer. Confounding suggestions is being changed to 25% daze duration. How does that play into this?

Staff primary deals condition damage, but its amazing as a defensive weapon aswell, which is why power-based builds like Mind Crush can also consider using it. That, and Chaos is secretly a Sylvari Stripper, known for how he utilizes the staff.

As for pistol vs sword:

• sword has a very low cooldown daze and potential interupt. It can double as a high damage block, too.
• sword has a very hard hitting phantasm. Its better dps than pistol, and has a higher chance to hit 100%, or if your opponent pays attention, 0%.
• the phantSmal duelist can stack alot of bleeds, and is better if you want to go condition instead of power. It usually triggers a dodge, so its great for letting someone ‘waste’ their dodge on purpose (50% of the damage will miss, though). The bullets can also be blocked by AI and stuff. It also isnt as suspectible as the swordsman to getting destroyed in melee cleavage.
• magic bullet is a stun on a higher cooldown than counterblade. Thats all there really is to say about it.

GS is great for chasing down runners, or generally doing damage at up to 1200 range. It doesnt offer much flexibility or survivability, though.

• make sure youre close enough to your target when you use mirror blade, you want the might stacks :O
• you occassionally have to turn around while summoning your berserker to gain maximum distance/safeness. Its kinda difficult to do right, but will pay off later when you start turning your screen more.
• Illusionary wave is about your only defense, use it wisely ;o.

If youre having trouble survivng, feel free to give the staff another try.

Please do not listen to Carp. Contrary to your statements Carp you do not have to run full zerk gear to be good. As well as running anything but zerk doesn’t make the build “bad”. A good build is a combination of traits, armor, food, weapons, and utilities that minimizes DEATH. Shouts are perfectly viable, he seems more support oriented while still doing damage which is good, that fills a roll in a group and just cause he can’t do “mad dps” doesn’t make his build bad. I used to run full zerk and beat CoF bosses into bloody pulp but that got so….. Boring. “It takes skill not to die when your squishy as hell”. That’s true, but that isn’t the only way to play and certainly not the most difficult. It is also not the best way to play. For example I have 3K power, armor, and 80% crit chance with 100-108 (still messing with some stuff) crit damage. Basically I can fill whatever roll i feel like and I love my weapons currently. And it will save you alot of grinding, wasting of cash, and time if you just play how you want to instead of doing what eeeeeveryone else is doing. Cause if you don’t like the build, you will want to switch builds. And I have switched builds so many times I could’ve bought a legendary by now lol (I think the order was Berserkers, Knights, Clerics, Knights, Clerics, Rabid, and Assassins, to my current set up and keep in mind I had full exos for all sets with ascended jewelry for all those sets) Case and point. Do what you want, if you like your build use it. It seems nice and I love shouts personally. Have a nice day.

Agony wouldn’t be a waste, since not everybody runs runes that give condition duration. Melandru runes are fairly commonplace and that wouldn’t fit your criteria.

I’ve always liked the idea of locking down your opponents, not letting them use skills, and just kitten ing their day. Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to use any skills whatsoever, either to run or fight back. I’ve tried a stealth heavy S/D thief, and a hammer Ma/Ma warrior. (Fun, but not “tricky” enough). I stumbled upon Chaos lockdown build, the mind crush. I took a lot of the aspects of his and tried to make my own.

Now my main problem with chaos’s build was that you had so many interrupts, but not bountiful interruption! You get so many boons from that! Now another question i have, is will GS be good in place of staff? I know chaos storm can potentially daze a lot, but other than that youll hardly be able to damage anyone. Another question i have is why offhand Sw over pistol?

That pretty much covers power builds. Focus isn’t typically used with scepter, since scepter is a condi weapon. Most people go Sce/D + Staff for condi and Axe/F + D/Wh for power

Its bad because its not berserker. Traits should be 30/25/0/0/15. That being said, it doesn’t really matter since anything works in Pve. Run whatever you need to survive, but keep adding more zerker pieces, until you can survive just fine in full zerker. It

Tbh its not even a shout build. Your only using one shout. Change the runes to scholar or ruby orbs and the traits to 30/25/0/0/15 and gradually swap out the knights for zerkers until you feel comfortable in full zerker

Anything but full berserker with max DPS traits and weapons is considered bad. Now that obviously makes you very squishy. However in Pve you can time blocks, dodges, and blinds in order to never get hit anyway. Most bosses have one shot mechanics, so regardless if you have 2k toughness or 0 toughness, that ones hot ability will still take you down. Same thing with healing, it won’t save you from that one shot attack. Better to maximize DPS in order to take the boss down faster to minimize the chance youll make a mistake in your dodges and blinds. This is true for all classes, and all types of PVE, be it dungeons or open world.

If youre fighting 1v2 with people of the same skill level, you cannot win. Its as simple as that.

Some basic advice would be to watch for when one overextended and to try and burst them down before the second can jump on you. Kiting is good for just getting CDs up and waiting for them to mess up. Dont be afraid of using cheesy tactics, since theyre the ones being unfair by doing 2v1.

Agony would be a complete waste. If you take the 50% bleed duration trait, food with 40%, and runes with 10% you get 100% bleed duration and 50% for everything else.

Currently sigil of torment is somewhat buggy in that if you have earth on one weapon and torment on the other, when you crit it won’t put them both on CD unlike most on crit sigils. Sigil of earth has either a 1 or 2 sec ICD and precise strikes doesnt have an ICD. They also dont stack to 93% to cause a bleed on crit, its 2 separate bleeds, one with a 60% chance and one with a 33% which is a lot better than if they stacked.

I just Wikied all the stuff to see if this is true. Life steal food heals for 325, 1sec ICD. Sigil of blood heals for 453, 2 sec ICD. Vampirism runes heal for 975 each on the x2 and x4, each with a 15 sec ICD. Dagger #2 heals 207 per tick, with 9 ticks with a 12 sec CD. keep in mind all these lifesteals also hurt the enemy, not just heal you. Sure its not full cleric or apothecary sustain, its pretty good with 1800 toughness and the dmg you can put out.

This build has a solo pve level of sustain.

I’ve stated why i didnt take blood. While technically not full vampire, getting only 39 health on crit and 31 on hit is very lackluster, and gimps your damage a lot.

I decided to make a build with every life steal option i could grab. It offers really good sustain, along with really good power damage. I know blood offers some life steal traits, but until they buff it its still not worth it imo

Anyways, thanks to someone much wiser than me, I’m now using the hybrid build in my signature. The runes help to some extent but really, I just paid so much for them that I’m going to stick with them no matter what now.

Works for me fine. If you play against competent people though it won’t work since theyll cleanse the confusion instead of kill themselves on the confusion. But WvW is generally filled with AFK auto attacking noobs on my server

Not really. Only hammer warriors and hambow are getting nerfed. Other builds are actually getting buffed. Personally i play condi warr and its awesome

I play a Mesmer and I think I will stick to it.
In other mmos classes were more specific. I’ve played and enjoyed tank class, heal class and dps. My tank was dps with shield (mix def/off) my heal was defensive/heal spec and my dps were glass cannons.

Thats the one class i dont play, so i cant really advise to well. But i do know Mesmer is probably one of the, if not THE hardest class to pvp well with. You can go to the Mesmer forum for any questions you have, and i suggest you join the OMFG (Official Mesmer Forum Guild). You can be in several guilds at the same time so thats not an issue.

My main advice would be to roll a warrior until you get a basic understanding of how to pvp in this game. One of the most powerful classes right now, and a low skill cap so you can do well with it at any skill level.

Terror doesn’t actually do 2k dmg. I heard that from someone else on the forums and i was wrong. But to counter with “bring stability” isn’t that helpful. Some classes have much easier access to stability than others. I’d think you would understand this given your only access to stability is a grandmaster trait. You can’t tell me every WvW build or Spvp build has stability.

Terror and dhuumfire arent OP by themselves. But together they can get a little out of hand, on top all the bleeds and poison a condi necro will put out. I had a dream last night that fear interrupted, and perplexity terror necros were destroying everyone.

I love the one in my sig. I always come back to it, especially if we’re facing a zergier matchup, where 1v1s are nonexistent
