Hey Carpboy…
I noticed you replied on my thread but this build actually seems pretty close to what I’m looking for in terms of a tanky WvW build. I just might change the kits a tiny bit.
Are you still running it? What versions would you recommend now, or what changes since you last updated it?
I’m still quite torn on just how much to bump up healing power and how much it’s worth to give up to get it. And how do you think the condition and power-based versions compare right now?
Thanks!
I really havent roamed with this build for awhile, or really my engi. I’ve been favoring my glass thief and warrior lately. But i can still give plenty of advice.
I really wouldnt change the kits. Grenades require 20 extra traits, which you just don’t have, and FT doesnt synergies with condi at all. (Tho you could run FT/bomb healer with more emphasis on might stacking to ramp up the dmg a bit more)
I feel the condi is a lot stronger. As of now id probably run it with perplexity, but still p/p since you need the burn. I wouldnt stray below 1000 healing power. Other than that, GLHF
Itd help if you linked the rest of youre build
Ill still be good ol Ham/GS. Plus you know, Mjolnir happened.
Its only a 10% dmg nerf in MAX GROUP SETTINGS. That means 25might/vuln/banners/spotter/etc. Even if it was a flat “youll have 10% less crit dmg” you’d have to have 100% crit chance for it to be a 10% dmg nerf. Worst case scenario youll have to do an extra auto to down someone. (Not so much tho now that i can have impact/air on my hammer now)
All in all, we need to wait for Tuesday to see how this affects things before crying how OP condi is.
(edited by Carpboy.7145)
Allthough i learned how he played and was finaly able to beat him.
Omg, what is this, I don’t even… Did I read it right? Are these kind of things really happening? People learning to play against another class? It’s hilarious, I don’t beleive it!
I dont see your problem dude. I only did a few 1v1 vs him, and he played different than the most thiefes i saw. And thats why i had to learn how he plays, to counter him. I really dont see the point of makeing fun of this :O
Your post is not
a) funny
b) helpfull
c) interesting
Please do only comment if your comment one of those things above, thanks.
Hes not making fun of you, hes being sarcastic about how everyone cries for nerfs instead of looking for counter play. It actually an indirect compliment
You’ve inspired me to get ascended legs. Itll look so awesome with my midnight ice nightmare/dreamthistle armor/weapons!
Try this
You only need 30% crit chance since with perma fury and UF youll have 100% crit chance. That means you can focus on just Power, toughness, and crit dmg, since you have maxed out crit chance. Your main combo will be once you have full adrenaline shield bash→skullcrack→swap 100b. Then just rinse and repeat. With your plethora of blocks, CC, condi cleanse, and 3700 armor, you’ll have a very hard time dying.
My hammer warrior esque build, it’s up on Wolfineer’s engineer guide on the gw2 reddit wiki and eventually I will make a video for it. If you don’t mind losing the extra healing from celestials, you can min/max it to milk about +10% crit damage. It also works with Rifle, it’s a bit less forgiving since you won’t have the extra blast finisher and block, but Jump Shot is a nice opener / leap, kinda like Earthshaker.
If you are feeling ballsy and if you trust your Guardian’s capacity to hit stability on the right moments, swap Elixir B for Slick Shoes.Jump Shot (if you got it) -> Mine Field (25 ppl boon strip) -> Supply Crate
How do you dmg people?
Bomb Auto crits for 1.6k-1.7k on a heavy, Rifle 5 if I’m using it crits for 1.5k the initial hit and 3-4k the landing on the same heavy and Throw Mine tool belt. I only use poison dart volley / overcharged shot if we are bombing a particular place to finish a downed person. If I could I’d trait for Explosive Powder and Energy Conversion Matrix, but I don’t see a way to do it without reducing survivability to a sub par state. Medium class problems. It does synergizes really well with the current hammer/disable spam meta and I have some good experiences with it both while driving and with guild/pug groups.
I was mostly commenting on the fact you only have 1700 power, which is prettty poor for a power build
PVE berserk everything. But if you wanna do WvW too, make a cavalier set
…eliminate need for precision? I know it sounds odd, and I wish I could math this up on my own, but I cannot.
If I spec purely for power (say.. Cavaliers) without precision in a build that can maintain 15+ stacks of might, will I be able to do enough damage to not need precision?
If it helps this is from a Mesmer perspective, so if we can use Sword as an example that’d be awesome.
It won’t do as much dmg as it would with precision, since you can still might stack with precision gear. And crit dmg is completely useless with no precision
1year is 365 days
Defektive, or Second to God. But i think they stopped playing awhile ago

edit:
‘We have to go almost full zerker to get the same damage as before that update.’
Do we need to? No, I can certainly own most opponents as well as I did before the update. In fact the dps from hammer isn’t entirely from staggering blow and earthshaker. They haven’t nerfed the auto attack or backbreaker.
‘If you eat a 100B ‘cause you didn’t bring a stunbreak, it’s your own fault…V is a useful key <3’
‘next time dodge and don’t come here to QQ’
The most invalid excuse I have read over and over again. You do know we have more than 2 ccs. If my opponent dodges my staggering blow + backbreaker, well I can just use earth shaker before he gets endurance back. B*** please.
They only nerfed staggering blow and Earthshaker. So i really dont understand what you’re saying by “biggest lie of the Dec 10 update.” Because they did exactly what they said they would do. no lying at all.
Did i say you have to go full zerker to be effective? I said we have to to get the same DPS. Scrubs will be scrubs. Youll still annihilate most people in WvW, but that can easily be done by any class since WvW is filled with bads.
You realize people have 2 dodges right? Not to mention energy sigils, vigor, blocks, blinds, stability, etc etc
Here’s what im at now. Trading 200 toughness and some CC for more crit chance, and accelerant-packed turrets. Now if im reading this right, that makes your turret detonate do a ton of Dmg. Almost 2k on a non crit, and it knocksback.
Looks a lot more like your traditional SD build. But my thing with SD is it only shows up as 335 dmg and bouncing twice. Does it bounce to the same target? Is the tooltip just bugged for some reason? Thats why i opted for speedy kits and power wrench (plus power wrench is just awesome).
Another question i have is with the heals. Medkit has a 15sec heal, that recharges at 25% thanks to 15 tools, and 50% uptime on fury from the #5. But idk if im getting enough use out of accel packed turrets with just rifle turret. Plus drop HT, detonate, rocket boots is a really awesome escape/heal.
Why?
Im considering taking a break from my warrior for awhile, and am looking for a spec fairly similar to the standard Hammer build.
Im wondering if slick shoes is worth anything at all, and if bomb kit might be worth it even with no points in explosives? I’ve never actually tried power bombs either. But my thinking is pull+static shock will set everything up, then i can get some rifle burst, overcharged—>net shot, then use slick shoes to ensure no escape and get some more burst off.
Is this viable? Or does it need some tweaks?
Check the builds in my sig
We have to go almost full zerker to get the same damage as before that update. And they nerfed ES (stun) and staggering blow (knockback) by 20% just like they said. However after Dec 10 many of us are picking up DotE in the major discipline slot (more boons you have more we hurt) and/or cull the weak in defense.

Pretty standard condi build. Has everything
Okay, so I have a Ranger who is level 80. I really did enjoy that character and she is something I have had a great deal of success doing dungeons and stuff with. However I have not had a great deal of success with sPvP, or WvW with her.
That said, I kind of want to level up another toon to 80 who is generally speaking more useful in more diverse things than my Ranger happens to be. I have tried leveling up a Guardian, Elementalist, and Necromancer to between level 20-30.
I can say from experience that the Necromancer, specifically the Minion Mancer build is too slow when it comes to the combat system. It reminds me of play during Guild Wars 1, and I am not particularly thrilled with that. Initially I had enjoyed the Necro because it presented me with a particularly tanky character. But that enjoyment started to wane when I realized that the character just wasn’t as efficient as it could be. Nor was it particularly an active character class.
The Elementalist I do enjoy, because it is a more active class. I especially enjoy the Staff builds. However I have found that the Elementalist suffers from squishiness-syndrome. Which can be problematic in some cases. However it is a class I can enjoy somewhat due to the active nature of the class.
The Guardian while being active and not nearly as squishy as the Elementalist… presents me with concerns that the only relevant build I have been able to find for it is not really the most optimal build for soloing purposes, and is really more optimal for large group settings (Altruistic Healing + Empowering Might). Thus I am not particularly thrilled with the class as I tend to do a great deal of soloing in a PvE setting.
Is there any class that based on what I have said above that you guys think I would enjoy more than the classes I have already tried? And Ranger doesn’t count as I already have it to 80.
FYI, AH + EM is one of the worst PVE builds you can run on a guard. I suggest you take another look at those guides.
If youre looking for a strong active class, try ele, engi, mes, or thief.
Idk if this would help you, but you can get a special program so you can use an Xbox controller with gw2
Female asura in T3 heavy minus helmet with ponytail. Nuff said.
Should be rabid vs dire. Carrion is pretty much crap on any class/build other than a few pieces.
Idk. But its just like RHS on guards. Just a visual bug
Its just a display bug
Does it honestly sound like im crying over here? because im laughing at how you are all raging about this post, in truth. if there is a single bad thing said about warriors or any class that someone likes there is going to be a firestorm of nothing but hate to the person posting it lol. IDK
We are not angry, we are just laughing at your pathetic nerf request and the reason for requesting it. It is a most obvious troll. Don’t hate us for laughing at your attempt. We just treat trolls in a very unwelcoming fashion cause all they ever do is polluted the forums with an endless feed of troll dung.
Sounds like a true warrior fan to me, one that would rage if you got another nerf to the hammer build. glad to see this is getting atention. if it wasnt hitting so close to home with people that love warriors than it wouldnt be getting so much hate. admit it, thats the truth.
Like I said in and earlier post, go ahead and nerf it. We will still own you and you will come crying on our forum for another nerf and we will laugh at you again.
Go ahead laugh at me, its amusing to see these posts right now. im sitting here enjoying reading this.
K.
It and bomb kit are my favorite kits, condi or power.
Take endure pain and offhand sword for block if you need to. But for defiant stance to work you need LOTS of incoming dmg. It also doesn’t scale off how hard the attacks hit, just how many attacks. That makes it only really good for zerging in WvW or the occasional big team fight in pvp. But even then is prefer healing signet :/
For PvE, like dungeons and stuff, for example lupi, u can see red circles on the ground when he AoEs, so if u need healing, u can always just stand right in the middle of it, and heal. I always carry a shield, endure pain and defiant stance with me for lupi.
Thats true, but since mobs usually have 1 long cast, hard hitting attack instead of multiple weaker attacks, youll really be lucky to get 4k healing out of defiant stance. All in all tho, if it works for you, use it
Please nerf hammer warrior’s they have allmost infinite crowd control effects and its nothing but a cheap move in wvw.
So lets look at the infinite stuns hammer warrs have…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hammer#Warrior
Oh wait, they only have three control affects? One of which hits like trash, and after the nerf earthshaker is pretty mediocre damage as well. On top of that, all these attacks are highly telegraphed, long cast time so scrubs have an eternity to dodge them.
Not OP, 0/10. FYI Ma/ Sh has the same amount of control affects with high dmg. Is that OP?

Says the perma stealth thief who can reset a fight when ever they want not forget blind spamming, says the clone a second shatter mesmer that can drop a tank spec war to 2 k hp in 5 sec and leave him with still 3-5 conditions to deal with, says the tankiest self healing gaurdian class almost infinite cond removal/stability, says the kiteing ranger who can just stealth away when it not going his way, says the fear/blinding spamming necro who can switch to an alternate hp pool when ever they want, says the zerker ele who if ya lag or forget to dodge there firestorm hits for 4 k on 3k plus armor, and then theres the 2 shot zerker or bunker for even a 60 man zerg cant bring down build engi and even though the most telegraphed class in this game that just got a nerf can stay alive a while and do cc with poop for damage and your to slow between the ears to dodge, slot a stunbreaker or just respec you come here and cry nerf maybe learn to play your class if you stand still when a hammer trains comming @ you, It’s your lack of skill that gets you killed not and op hammer war.
Actually i play a necromancer that has no stability accept the elite skill. so yeah, i hate thiefs. never could play them right.
Foot in the Grave. Also no one else reply to this thread so itll just die. You guys are kinda bad at that :/
Well this is by far the best backstab build.
If you like D/P n stead just use D/P over D/D (or D/D+D/P, doesnt matter.) then youve got these Sw/P builds becoming more and more popular. Then theres S/D which a few people still use after the nerfs. And the very defensive P/D condi build with 30 trickery, Scorpion wire, and perplexity runes.
That pretty much sums up thief diversity in a nutshell.
Honestly, i like both. I do Tpvp with my guild to practice and get a little better at just general pvp stuff, like not wasting dodges and learning how to counter certain builds. I also love going into duel servers to practice and test all my theory crafted builds. Then i go into WvW and generally destroy people, since people in WvW are generally a lot worse than in duel servers and Tpvp :/
Lol. K.
PvP: 5v5 or 8v8. The gameplay is mostly conquest. You get points for capturing and holding the points, along with few points for killing and side objects. The first team to 500 wins the round. Your character is automatically leveled to 80, you have all your skills, and everybody has access to the same sigils/stats/runes etc. (Aka, it’s all about player skill, build, and team coordination)
WvW: Server vs Server vs Server. 3 servers go up against each other for a week over 4 different, very large, full sized maps. It’s kinda like conquest, but on a much larger scale. You capture and defend camps, towers, keeps along with building siege equipment like rams, trebuchets, even walking golems.
As for the class, mesmer and thief are pretty similar. They are both about confusing your enemey, avoiding attacks, stealthing to lose aggro, etc.
Guardians are the complete opposite. I think both would work well together.
In a small fight the guardian would hold focus and protect the thief, while the thief tried to get some sneaky attacks in.
Or you could team up as a mesmer and you guys would just use invis + clones to really confuse your opponents.
Edit: The only real point of a server is WvW. You can PvE and PvP with anybody you want on the EU side through guesting. However, you can only represent your home server in WvW.
So I guess I will start with guardian. Are there kinds of guardians? If so, which should I be if I love support? Could you please explain each one?
Also – which server would you recommend me to join? Very High population is not recommended right? PLUS any specific guides you would recommend me to read/watch before playing?
Guardians imo are the best support class. Healway is a very popular support build, just google it. However, dont take that build into PVE, as its simply not needed. Bosses generally have one hit mechanics, and regardless if you stack toughness or healing power theyll still oneshot you.
As for servers, it doesn’t really matter for anything except WvW. You can “guest” to any other servers, which is like a free temporary transfer.
As for things you should look at before you start, i strongly reccomend this guide
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide
Ok , so now i know one. Thief and warrior can do high dps. Last question then .
For pvp , which better? Warrior or Thief?
There is no “better” only better at certain situations. Warrior is probably the best all around, but if you want that sneaky, assassin backstabbing feel go thief. You can test each of them yourself for free with full pvp gear. Just make a new character of each and take them into the mists!
The stats you get from infusions won’t make or break your build. Get as many precision ones to get you to the next %crit chance, then just straight power
there are already several threads about condition builds on the forums, just scroll through the pages and you’ll find them. condition thieves can apply alot of pressure to your opponent especially if they just assume you’re another backstab build but condition engineers/necromancers > condition thieves.
I know there are already several condi thief builds, im just looking for critiques on mine. And if condi engis/necros > thief, why would anyone play condi thief?
I’ve been wanting to roll a thief really badly for some reason in WvW. Maybe its just to troll, or pwn n00bs, idk. But I’ve been theory crafting this condi build for awhile heavily centered around steal.
My main question would be what runes? Antitoxin is a good all around, but Balthazar and torment seem very strong as well with withdraw. He’ll maybe even perplexity? Although my only interrupt is steal…but its a 19 sec CD…i really dont know.
Im also just curious what would be the advantages of a condi thief over, say a condi engineer or necro?
Get cavalier armor, knights or zerker trinkets, and cavalier weapons, at least to start out. That covers pretty much any power build you can have. Then you can start getting gear for more obscure builds.
>.< i hate when people make these topics with absolutely no information. Zerging, small group, solo? High dmg, high defense, or a combination? Power or condi? There is no end all be all best warrior build, just best for certain fights or situations.
Pretty glassy build.
That build wouldn’t hold up for an average ele in a 1v1 and never in a 1v2 situation.
That has average mobility, decent damage, and low sustain.
I’ve personally run 0/10/10/20/30 quite a lot but with different traits. It can be good, you’ve just got to change a few traits.
I don’t really see what you mean by low mobility. That seems like the highest mobility I can get with ele. And as for glassy, well 2600 armor isn’t bad. maybe its different for ele idk. And seems like ele has good sustain just from swapping to water. so I don’t really understand you there either
Ok so ive been messing with some traits the last couple days. Leg Specialist is just that much beter than empowerd, even with lyssa runes. And I rarely land hammer#2, so Cull the Weak is pretty “weak” (heh heh heh). I LOVE lyssa runes tho, that clutch aegis, stability, protection, condi clear has saved me so many times. ive also tried desparate power, but the threshold is just to low, if it was 50% it would be insanely good. Ive also started using DotE and man. it just destroys classes like guard, ele, and engi. ive gotten 5k earthshakers still, and one time against an uplevel engi I got a 7k rush. Instadowned him since it was a big group fight. Someone even asked me what build and gear I was using, after I completely annihilated them. I tought them how to warrior. But yeah, these are my finding over the last couple days.
Ele is the one class ive never really looked at or played. Lately when im roaming, I see these high CC, high mobility, high damage eles. This is a lot like my current playstyle, my Ham/GS warrior. im just wondering how viable a build like this is. Ive never played ele at all, so im pretty noob. id just like a general critique.
Now before you call me out and say “hey im running Ham/GS, way to post the generic build.” There are a few minor changes here that work with the damage nerf allowing near before nerf DPS. Im posting this so that others who use this weapon set can compare different set ups and maybe get some advice on some things they hadn’t thought of before.
So anyway the build:
“But this is just the new //30/10/30 hammer build” there are a few changes here that will give us near pre nerf DPS back. For one, im using Cull the Weak over Dogged March. Hammer #2 provides near enough perma weakness, so think of this as an extra 5% dmg modifier. (Even more perma if youre roaming with a thief or necro). One other minor change would be Empowered over Leg Specialist. You may be thinking, “well empowered is decent, but its only 1% per boon, and you don’t have a huge amount of boons” But here’s where my last tweak makes Empowered VERY powerful. Lyssa runes. With a 48 sec CD, youll be able to cleanse all your condis and gain all boons for a 9% dmg increase very often. Fury and swiftness from SoR will last 38 seconds, leaving only a 10 second downtime. On top of that, the stability and aegis prevent anyone from stopping your burst combo. The main one being Earthshaker->Ham#2->Backbreaker->quick swap into hundred blades. That combo can do anywhere from 15-25k damage, downing pretty much anyone in a couple seconds. The hydromancy on GS can crit upwards of 3k, and the chill allows one more hit or 2 on 100b from Backbreaker. While mobile strikes doesnt entirely make up for loss of lemongrass, dogged march, and melandru, this build works with the hammers damage nerf. (Wish i wouldve thought of this before the nerf)
One last minor thing that doesn’t affect the build but is just useful, you only ever have to get berserker trinkets. You don’t have to worry about getting two sets of ascended for WvW and PVE, you just need to swap out armor and weapons and traits and your set. No need farming laurels, fractals, and guild missions.
Dont listen to what people tell you you have to play and play what you want.
