As a necro to counter their entire build, you could have just picked foot in the grave over deathly perception.

Ma/Sh isnt commonly taken with hammer because you have literally no mobility. Theyre usually paired with a GS, for high mobility and high damage through 100b if you can get a stun off (or hammer #5). with hammer GS is more for the mobility, and with mace its more for the burst damage. maces f1 ability is a 3 sec stun in case you didnt know. The new heal is pretty bad, unless youre a commander in WvW and leading the charge. even then id still prefer signet. As a warrior, all you need to be unkilkable in spvp is healing signet, adrenal health and high toughness, with either hammer, longbow, Sw/Sw, Ma/Sh, or GS. This wont really help you in spvp, but the standard power build set up in WvW is knights weapons, knights armor, defensive runes like melandru or soldier, and cavalier trinkets. This leaves you with a really good mix of defense and offense.

Here are the tweaks i would make to your build. You NEED cleansing ire on almost any serious pvp build. If you don’t you’ll be destroyed by any condi build you encounter. Defy pain is pretty bad anyway. As youre heal, the signet is almost always better in any situation. It works while stunned and feared too, so you never have to worry about hitting it. Berserker stance is also one of the best skills in the game.

Be wary of the lack of mobility. Very soon you may find you want a GS or Sw/Sh swapped with one of your weapon sets. However as a necro you may be used to being slow. (But warriors are melee so its different.)

A list of viable builds would be ham/bow (lockdown/might stacking build), GS + either Ma/Sh or Sw/Sh. (Using Ma or Sw f1 ability to stun or immob your opponent and quickly swap weapons to immediately 100b. I prefer Sw/Sh). Condi Sw/Sw + LB build. (By far my favorite, you can deal so much damage in such a small time frame.) Ham/GS (GS mostly for mobility, hammer is youre primary weapon) Axe/Sh + Hammer isn’t popular, but i really like it and its got insane amounts of burst damage.

I know mesmers defense usually relies on active defenses such as blurred frenzy and phase retreat as well as being tricky with illusions over straight up tanking damage. But what if you did both, combining the active defense with the passive tanky stats? Combined with the sustained damage phantasms can bring. iSwordsman hits 2.5k, and the heal allows you good passive regen, which with 15 inspiration and such high active and passive defense is really strong at keeping you topped off. The active synergies extremely well, putting off CD 2 of the utilities and a weapon phantasm, allowing for an almost complete reset.

Phase retreat only has a 6 SECOND CD!!! Thats so awesome for such a great escape tool, and stun breaker. No one can come even close to that in terms of active defense. Ideally youd have up iDefender, and either iDisenchanter and iSwordsman, or 2 iSwordsman. (Hell, even 2 iDefenders and an iDisenchanter for full on defense). Its designed to whittle people down through sustained phantasm damage while you sit back and use all your defenses as needed, and straight up tanking hits if you have to.

Now my question is, is this viable? Not PVE at all, but spvp and WvW, would this be at least decent there?

My request is pretty simple, sword is our only weapon without a -20% CD reduction. Since all other CD reduction effect, just put -20% CD on all sword skills with Blademaster, in addition to the 10% crit chance with sword. Its not really a big change, its mostly just for consistency. (I do run dual swords in WvW, but it still makes sense to give sword a CD reduction trait.

So what are people’s thoughts on something like this? Pistols hip can hit 7-9k dmg very easily. What are people’s thoughts on signet of malice over withdraw? Every pistol whip thats 900 health.

What will help you most at getting better at solo fights is to just keep at it. When you die, analyze what you could have done to prevent that and what your opponent may have done to counter you. Most servers have a fight night set up at the end of the week, which is just 1v1 duels against opposing servers. Go to that not only to participate, but watch what other players will do in certain situations. Go into a dueling arena in spvp and practice on other people. Learn what other classes can do and how they do it. Then think if ways to counter them while doing exactly what you want. Thieves and mesmers just take practice, and against a pretty skilled player will melt.

What sort of condition build would you suggest to make short work of WvW bad guys? You mention your own setup. Can you share it?

If you can’t get ascended trinkets, just use rabid ones with dire armor. All this gear can also be purchased on the TP for like 20g, just search “Galrath’s” for the armor. Undead runes work just fine until you can get nightmare ones. (Nightmare armor looks amazing as a plus. Missile deflection is my new favorite trait for PvP, those LB zerker rangers, kills hot warriors, and pistol thieves will literally kill themselves.

Basically the build in my sig trading healing power, and toughness for more damage.

This may not be true anymore, but torment sigils were working with other on crit and swap sigils in that they wouldn’t put each other on CD.

I have an insanely awesome charr Mesmer. Snow leopard fur with trickster armor. It looks so BA. Whats scarier than 4 full size charr bearing down on you? +1 if you also use warband support

Basically warrior for more dmg oriented support and AoE, guard for more utility and defensive support.

My favorite part is the longbow auto hits twice, allowing twice the chance for on crit affects. I’ve gotten 10+ stacks of bleed and burn, all from just using LB.

i think what Bash is talking about is being able to handle ANY condition builds. i’ve played against certain conditions build that i just shrug off. and then there are gusy who just stack conditions upon conditions upon you such that well-timed CoP’s or lyssa runes or whatever else won’t save you.

not claiming to be a good player – just trying to illustrate that there are varous levels of play by any given build, any given player, so there’s no harm in trying to prep for the worst. especially when in fact, the chances of running into awesome condi builds are quite high nowadays.

and what if you run into two players with condi builds, or even 3?

it’s tough though, especially when you’re up against condi tanks. you need enough dmg to down them, but you also need to be able to sustain through their barrage of condi’s.

Thing is, if you go all out anti condition youll suck against everything else. If you run into 2 or even 3 players, your odds of winning are already extremely slim. It doesn’t matter if theyre running condi or not. A common mistake is that people think you can’t dodge, block, or blind conditions. Once you get good at doing that with the big condi nuke attacks, youll find you dont need half as much condi removal.

You can get rabid armor from dungeons, karma, or the TP. I’d reccomend the TP, as each piece is only like 1.5gold (really really cheap for exotics). Just search “Galrath’s” in the search box. you can also buy dire weapons for fairly cheap. (like 3gold)As for the trinkets, you can get exotic rabid ones with karma, or ascended ones with laurels, fractals, and a mixture of WvW badges.

Something I have seen missing ALOT in these builds is condition removal. Even more so with the newer thief meta of P/D plex, How do any of these builds handle condition builds at all…

Smite condition on a 16 sec CD, and CoP on a 48 sec cd, combined with a 2k heal every time you use them. Dont bash it if you haven’t tried it

Also, if you bothered to look at my post history at all, I am not new to this profession. I have posted several roaming builds in the past, and tried ALOT of things that most people haven’t. If you think I haven’t tried the cookie cutter roaming builds your sadly mistaken.

OP the thing is, you’re not gonna find an armor thats optimal for Pve and pvp. Pve requires a 30 25 0 0 15 build full berserker with GS + Axe/Ma. However thats not good at all for pvp. You said you like the armegeddon armor. So look up which temples have each piece of rabid gear. Then get rabid or dire trinkets, either with karma or from the TP. You can also get rabid armor off the TP for REALLY cheap. Just search “Galrath”. For weapons you want dual swords and a LB. now as for PVE, either buy berserker gear off the TP, or buy rare berserker gear and run CoF p1 every day until you get a full set of gear. Then either craft ruby trinkets, buy ascended, or buy ruby ones off the TP.

When building your guard, try to get 2000 power, 35-50% crit chance (before RHS or fury), 60-100% crit dmg, 15-18k health, 2800-3200 armor, and i like to get 300-600 healing power.

Damage is still great, you bring a lot of group buffs and you heal insane amounts through AH.

No offense, and i dont want to start a flame war, but thats one of the worst PVE builds you can run. 30 valor is completely useless, and AH is incredibly selfish. The only support your giving is limited boons from shouts. You’re not even providing condi removal. And with hammer, you want at least 15 zeal for vuln on symbols. You also can’t have consecration master, which is one if the best traits for Pve.

Which runes are the best DPS runes? I’m looking at runes of the thief, runes of the eagle or i could just stick with ogre runes and run pure power build

Mace isn’t a great DPS weapon. Its way to slow. Main hand axe on the other hand…

As for runes, scholar or ruby orbs if youre cheap or cant keep the 6th bonus.

I can only get a guild group going if a lot of people are online and up to it, and since im often online at odd hours thats not very often. I realize with pugs i wont get the best coordination or players, but its what i got. Im just looking for what would give me the easiest time in supporting them with stability and other needed things you can’t rely on a pug for. With those in mind tho, i think guard may be what i want. Im mixing my stats to get 17k health, 3k+armor, 30-40% crit chance, 70-80 crit dmg, 500-700 healing power, and 2k power. So would AH or meditations be better?

AH isnt support. Better to go a shout build, imo, if your goal is support.

I know AH isnt support. But with the hammer chain, its tons of heals for myself, and perma protection for everyone else. I’d argue consecrations are best for support anyway. Im just trying to find the best balance between offense, defense, and support.

53% is more than enough. Remember all the weapons are one handed, so RHS is another 15% crit chance that doesn’t show on the character sheet. With fury thats 73%

Im getting close to getting my tag, and am mostly interested in 5-15 man groups causing chaos in enemy BLs. That said, i dont know what character i should get it on. I’ve got warrior, guardian, and engineer all at 80. My warrior would be with the standard knight/cavalier 0/10/30/0/30 hammer build, my guard with 0/0/30/20/20 build with hammer/staff and consecration a, or my engi with a 10/0/30/20/10 1963 healing power build with bombs, EG, and toolkit. I know warrior can do the most damage while being tanky, guard and engi are both very tanky, and near impossible to down, but at the cost of almost no damage. My engi can provide group stealth, which is really amazing when you encounter an enemy group, and can get up to 2500+ hps to everyone in a 360 radius. But my guard has long lasting stability and projectile reflection, as well as near perma protection for anyone within a 240 radius of me. Anyone having experience leading a small man group, any advice you could give would be awesome!

30 in defense, by definition, is not a DPS build. Your kidding yourself if you think thats good DPS. Now if youre talking pvp, thats differebt

I’ve heard 15/15/0/20/20 is the best hammer build. Its just not traiting WoP with hammer is beyond stupid, and empowering might is another 5-6 stacks of might for the group. And the increased symbol size is just kinda there, i dont really know what else would fit. Im assuming shout cool down, for whenever i need a shout. If only EM was an adept. Plus the 10% extra dmg on low endurance is nice, even tho ive heard you lose DPS if you purposefully dodge. I just like to know its there for when i do use all my dodges. Im also just curious why not 25 in zeal, an extra 10% dmg on your main damaging attack is pretty good. Im also curious how the 15/15/0/20/20 build compares to the GS Sw/F build damage and utility wise.

This build is primarily for pugging. I can maintain 10-15 vuln, and 20+ might all by myself. I’ve got reflects, long lasting stability, and group condi clear. Combined with perma protection to anyone in melee range (you should be). Staff is for all the run sections in dungeons, and empower is great in pugs. Line if warding is great for blocking off mobs, as well as ring of warding on hammer. A typical fight will start with me using empower, dropping swiftness symbol on the mob, then swapping to hammer and autoattack ing, unless im stacking might or stealth with #2 and using my utilities as needed. Ill pretty much stay in hammer until the next encounter. If a certain part of the dungeon doesn’t need reflects, or stability, ill tailor those two abilities to what would fit best. However condi clear is always good, so that one stays on my bar.

Im just wondering how i could improve the build, i know its not perfect meta build, but its so helpful when pugging(all i do in PVE) and saves me tons of headaches. I have been thinking of taking 10 out if zeal into radiance or virtues tho, either for blind(and vuln) spam or into virtues for more group condi clear.

So ive had this idea for awhile, and someone may have already posted it. But what if i made a build completely centered around steal. That obviously means 30 in trickery, and that tends to be more condition based builds. So here’s what I came up with.

When you steal you poison, heal, stealth for 3 sec (SA 15), clear conditions because of stealth, daze, steal 2 boons and get 15 sec of vigor, and gain initiative. And all of thats on just a 19 sec cool down. Its nearly perma poison and vigor, just from one skill. The choice of runes allows for lots of might, and with 25 in SA, you can walk around with 20+ stacks of might in a fight all the time. That means the sneak attack on your pistol will do 5k+ damage, over 6 seconds. 6 seconds isnt a whole lot of time to clear conditions, and you can easily apply poison and torment, and lots of cripple on top of it. You want to be using steal ALL the time to heal, interrupt, reapply poison and get vigor, or set up a sneak attack from stealth. This build has fairly low initiative gain, but the new base initiative regen makes it so you don’t even need to trait for it.

For anyone curious, here’s what im using post dec 10. I swordsman can regularly crit for 5.5k. Duelist just cant do that. Ill also be using the new heal.

All in all though, this feels like one of those things where i just gotta do a couple hot joins and see what works best for me.

Huh, i thought it was like the thief and else signet, every time you attack youre healed for X amount. Well nvm this could actually be really strong.

I know pistol is strong, but so is offhand sword. Main reason is swordsman is safe from melee, does more DPS, and is less likely to get half of the damage evaded, unlike pistol. Plus dual swords just looks cool. Again, i know pistol is great, i just prefer sword.

So come Dec 10 in gonna try out a phantasm build for roaming WvW. Gonna be using the new heal, and one set is Sw/Sw. Now my question is, would GS or offhand pistol work better for me?

You don’t honestly think im suggesting for you to kill all illusions first, then focus the Mesmer, just to limit their healing a tiny bit? Comprehension and common sense are great tools. The big reason its worse than healing signet is that the heal is every time you hit, not every second like HS is. However, i could see an interesting build out of either GS or staff with their multi hit autos. But this isn’t the Mesmer forum so w/e

Definitely perplexity, since the one thing it lacks is killing power. Definitely be going P/S route tho

Umm…all weapons of the same type and level will do the same damage. But engi pistols dont just “shoot” and X amount of damage.

Not really true at all, since 4 of the 5 skills apply conditions. Ill give you the auto attack is a lot more power oriented though, but you should only use it for speed running dungeons. Dont try the meta dungeon build in any pvp or wvw

That -40% condi duration food is nearly 40silver a pop, almost no one can afford to run that. If youre fear with conditions is that you won’t kill fast enough, or people will just shrug off your damage, let me throw you some of my experience roaming with conditions. When getting the jump on people, you can literally burst them down in seconds. Now i thought conditions were over time, not burst, how is this possible? Well with my setup, its extremely easy to get 3kdps from bleeds, and 1k burns, along with torment. That means most people will go down in 4-6 seconds.

If things ever go wrong for you, for w/e reason(more enemies, you made a bad move) you have a very low cool down leap and block to get ooc with, as well as being able to immobilize them when they chase.

Camps will take ~15sec to down all the guards, and a fully upgraded camp will take ~30 sec. Thats also a huge thing for roamers, being able to solo camps.

What will help you most at getting better at solo fights is to just keep at it. When you die, analyze what you could have done to prevent that and what your opponent may have done to counter you. Most servers have a fight night set up at the end of the week, which is just 1v1 duels against opposing servers. Go to that not only to participate, but watch what other players will do in certain situations. Go into a dueling arena in spvp and practice on other people. Learn what other classes can do and how they do it. Then think if ways to counter them while doing exactly what you want. Thieves and mesmers just take practice, and against a pretty skilled player will melt.

I know i could voice this concern in the actual thread, but no one really reads past the first page, if that. Dont get me wrong, im all for account bound Wxp. I’ve always wanted guard leech, and now i can have it on all my characters. But i do see one slight issue with them being account bound. Ranks 1-5 are substantially easier to obtain than all the others. So whats to stop people from having an extra character slot, getting to rank 5 really quick, then deleting the char and making another one all to power rank. My suggestion is to make ranks 1-5 just as long to acquire as all the others, otherwise we could see a huge inflation of ranks.
