I agree! We should nerf NA Prime hours since all everyone does in whine about PPT during that zone and we should just take it off the table. Only count 11pm to 1pm server time and the rest is just for giggles.

Seriously, the problem isn’t nightcapping or any other red herrings; it’s the RNG matchup system.

Every server T3 and up has significant off-hours presence. The only exceptions (SBI and IoJ) are already moving up the ranks and should be in T4 and higher within a month or so.

I feel bad for the pure NA server that puts up a good fight against SoS or DB and then sees their gains vanished in the morning; but this has been a thing since day one.

People are just griping about it again because servers that never had to face significant off-hours servers are now getting exposure and are heavy with QQ.

I say stop making these servers have to face servers that out-coverage them.

I want to know who came up with this idea at ANet and I’d like them to be honest with us and tell us why they hate the WvW population.

We’ll all buy gems if they stop this, we promise!

What server does Mr Carver play on and has he tried moving around to different servers to get a better idea of the real population imbalances in NA?

IoJ’s NA is much larger than SoS’s actually. IoJ has CORE, HARD, TEST among others which all field 15+.

You didn’t help your argument there. SoS fields more than that in organized groups alone and dwarfs that in militia.

Look, we on SoS are rooting for all comeback servers. SBI, IoJ, HoD, and even ET; we know what’s it’s like to take a fall. However, you aren’t bigger than us in NA, Oceanic, SEA, or EU.

When you see us talk about how we need more or other servers talk about our low NA, we are talking in relation to the servers we often face, that run 40 man zergs on multiple maps.

We are recruiting heavily for organized WvW groups so that all our militia groups are not rallying just on one group, so we can spread out into multiple borderlands or do coordinated operations within the same borderland.

It seems the more the community(ies) cry out for balance, the more they go out of the way to punish lower ranked servers for not transferring to higher ranked ones.

If you really think the server that is ranked 12th at the start of this stands any chance against the top servers you are delusional.

I never said they did. However, I’d argue that they do in fact stand a chance against the 6th ranked server and the 5th ranked server. We are not trying to only ever match you up against your closest comparable server. That was what was happening with the system before and it was bad. If you are saying you don’t ever even want the chance to try and show your skill against a higher ranked server, then I don’t know what to say.

We will continue to look into ways to change scoring to try and even out some of the population based imbalances, but that is not an easy task and it won’t happen during the season.

Number 12 stands a chance against number 5?

Mr. Carver, you are either being intentionally disingenuous or are frighteningly unobservant. This week SoS-Ebay-DB matchup shows exactly how that would play out.

Folks need to lighten up a bit. Unless there have been a lot of transfers involved (see SBI) the chances of beating a server ranked 2 or more places higher than you are close to zero.

My favorite NA moments so far have been the few times we’ve wiped large DB groups led by EAT and NS (didn’t expect to pull that one off).

Your oceanic and eb militia is extremely unorganised i transferred there a while back to check it out. Ended up going back to FA. However SOS had a great community and well organised guilds. We especially love fight against team shatter and jackals fate crew. On a positive EB is constantly queued during NA and oceanic

Our EB force is often ridiculed because most of our organized guild forces tend to take the fights to the borderlands unless we are being unduly pressured there.

We don’t pull the wool over anyone’s eyes who are looking into transferring. NA timezone needs organized groups and people willing to learn and put in time to be better.

We are not the server to transfer if you are into easy xp and karma trains. We offer a great community, organized WvW coordination, and an opportunity for guilds and individuals who really want to prove what they can do. Our numbers are small but we hit harder man for man than anyone we’ve faced.

If you are deadset on T4 or lower I say go with IoJ or SBI.

If you are open to broadening your search, SoS in T3 is always looking for more; but we don’t directly donate gold for transfers (we’ll gladly assist in farming and sharing Guild Missions while you rebuild here).

That’s a broad question. We have a lot of Tier 1 vets and some enthusiastic transfers to the NA and EU timezones who are looking for an intriguing challenge.

Our NA runs around a few core guilds that try to get the ball rolling on a nightly basis; but the bulk of our population are PvX guilds and don’t do much organized WvW , so we are looking for a few more NA guilds that like to go into WvW together and work as with our other groups on our server’s TeamSpeak.

As for our attitude, we are respectful to a fault; in that we try to support each other even when poor decisions are made, etc.

Feel free to look at our main recruitment thread and talk to our official reps if you have more specific questions.

This is a messed up matchup. DB’s SEA ends our Oceanic momentum and their prime time mega-Zerg will chew through EhmBay’s great defenses.

In short they’ll make us look worse than we are.

How about Ehmry? We can go back to trash talking each other next week but let’s see what we can do by focusing on DB together.

Kind of an inside joke from the early GW2 WvWvW days. You kinda had to be there :P

If you were on IoJ early on you might have heard of Team Legacy (Prince was the supposed leader of it.)

Basically he, and a handful of other IoJ residents, were so toxic on GW2 forums (Pot and I remember him from the guru forums) that no one wanted to join IoJ even after the ET and HoD collapsed. If IoJ had had a better rep, IoJ with it’s Oceanics would have been a more attractive choice and probably would have taken the place of SoS and could have been number one for a long time.

Sounds like those folks are long gone and a new IoJ is being built.

I hope you do well and go up to the point where you can fight us on SoS. You have some work ahead of you (SBI, CD, YB, BP, and EhmBay are all in a fight for for #9).

No, it’s the official. The last two sites had to be closed for various reasons so we are still getting people used to visiting this one.

As you can see, some people are chattier than others.

EhmBay impressed me with how many players are correctly equipped and know how to play your classes well (being matched up with all those SPvPr’s on AR served you well) but I hadn’t been impressed with an entire guild until watching [hawk] last night. I haven’t seen that kind of tight formation in a while. I kept saying on teamspeak to take out the stragglers but the core group from that guild wouldn’t break off for single kills and it fell apart.

Great fights most of the week.

We’re still shy of where we would like to be in terms of NA. Seems like many are worried about us getting the bandwagon effect, but we’ve decided as a community that we have no desire to return to tier 1 and that won’t be happening here.

I have this secret desire to see SoS return to it’s former glory.. but if that’s what you guys are trying to avoid, I hope you get what you want.

As for TC being the ‘baby Tier 1’ server, I still don’t know. I had this discussion with someone else the other day. He thinks they will continue to move upwards, but I think they will stay in T2 and have boring matches until the guilds get fed up and leave. It’s happened before.

I could be wrong, and they could go all out in a T1 matchup as soon as tonight of course. We shall see!

Much love to SoS, I’m hoping to see you guys go up against DB/Maguuma. I think that would be a fun matchup for you guys.

Edit: To stay on topic, I meant it will be fun to watch you guys as you continue to strengthen and take on bigger challenges! Maybe some day I’ll revisit my luvers at SoS

The rocketing 3 month ride into T1 was a good experience, but it was becoming and has became more than it should have been. We shouldn’t have internal open letters to other time zones about coverage or shouldn’t be in a place where we are discussing East Coast NA population vs West Coast population as a reason for losing.

TC is in a league of it’s own but there are three servers right now that all servers beneath them cannot compete with due to their off-hours presence, SoS, FA, and DB.

I think most of us would ideally like to get to a place where we can compete on equal ground with the other two servers and get high enough that we don’t get dragged into so many unfair matchups with T5 anymore (though DH and KN were great competitors, it just wasn’t cricket).

After that, whatever happens will happen; but for now we are focusing on having a server that has a strong community that will withstand ups and downs in fortunes. We had the shortest drop of any server that dropped out of T1 (not counting BG moving to number 4 for a month) and we did that because we have a dedicated core of players that is now expanding and we’ll take any success that brings us.

Being in HzH I think you understand that as well.

Don’t worry about becoming the next bandwagon. Just focus on being competitive on T2 and recruit as much NA as you can. To be honest, I see TC as the next bandwagon server.

It’s simply not going to happen but everyone (native guilds and guilds thinking about transferring) seem to worry about it more than they should.

Being competitive in T2 is what we are aiming for (T2 being DB and FA) as TC has already become a “baby Tier 1” server.

After a moment of jealous envy at your recruiting, I got happy when this makes my long held prediction of a SBI, JQ, and SoS rematch in T3 all the more likely now.

If we could just get them to drop down a bit we can make this happen (though I guess it could still happen if the RNG hates us.

A tip to kaineng, if we’re attacking Ehmry and leaving you guys alone that means that you guys can do two things. Attack ehmry and enjoy your free ppt or defend your bl upgrading everything and bunker it down. Not attack our bl and abandon your bl so ehmry can fully cap it with very little to go to your primetime finishes which just makes it that much easier for us to fully cap your borderlands back.

I’m confused. How does rushing off to SoS BL for the nightly double team (you never seem to attack unless Ehm is going for Hills) while Ehm full caps your BL accomplish anything?

We specifically don’t attack you so that you can retake all that while Ehm and us go at it. We even reset blue lake in EhmBay in case you want to do some havoc there.

Is it something we said or you just want to mix it up with our guys? If it’s the latter just say the word and we can setup some GvGs or just arrange a nice open field brawl at a place of your choosing.

Otherwise it just looks like opportunism and taking ppt while you can.

Forum warrior-ing aside; they don’t have to prove anything. They had a good showing on the weekend and they can feel good about how they’ve done.

Likewise Kaineng, has been fighting above their weight-class and is doing itself proud too.

On SoS, our NA is a little more focused this week and is fighting a little bit better, and our Oceanics continue to hit hard at night.

For what it’s worth, I’m surprised you ever lost to them.

It’s just coverage, that’s all it is and you can all stop with the denial.

What you need to worry about is how you do in your time zone and how your fights go.
Ehmry Bay has good guilds and has given us great fights, winning quite a few. These tantrums on the forums only detract from that and embarrass yourselves.

From T5 to T1 and back down to T4. EVERY server that has ever lost to us… (all of them except maybe FC we have faced) has said the same things “they PvD”; “They only win because the Oceanics.”

What amazes me is that this is still a story. This has been a known fact since the FIRST Beta weekend, that SoS was the unofficial Oceanic server and everyone knows we bring a nighttime threat.
