I still think CD has the potential to beat and become better than SoS, but that’s just me.

I think all of Tier 3 (including ourselves in SoS) are all overachievers. All three servers have a decent non-NA prime presence (CD has been putting up good early morning numbers), but we match up pretty evenly with the T4 folks in NA primetime. I do think the average T3 player is better equipped for WvW (YB and BP were pretty squishy when we saw them) and more experienced.

I’m actually a little surprised that CD did not do better against Maguuma in their last matchup. Without a doubt, our match with them probably should have been closer than it was (SoS Friday-Saturday coverage demoralized them on Saturday) but at the end of both of our last matchups with no T2 involved, SoS held exactly the same point lead over Maguuma that it did over CD.

I think CD is in a lot better position than anyone on CD believes LOL.

Supply draining effect? What the heck does that mean?

Does that mean a treb hit will actually drain supply from the keep or tower that it is hitting?

Hmm, not sure how I feel about that.

They’ll have to get rid of the spot on garrison if that is the case. It’s already hard enough to hold Bay. Either that or make Bay worth more PPT LOL

So, would you say SoS has many zergs running around WvW, a mix of Zerg/Havoc squad, or one big zerg?

We’re not at the “many” zergs point. We are certainly in need of more havoc squads and small “ops” groups.
We do zerg up at times, particularly if we are facing an enemy that forms large zergs themselves (ie DB’s 70+ mega-zerg); but we’re pretty flexible in choosing strategies that fit our opponent(s).

I don’t get this complaint at all. You seem to be complaining that you had a non-stop bag delivery service for hours, and you wanted it to end?

There should be rewards for “lemming” yourself into superior numbers again and again. This mindset of PvD and easy takings is epidemic in WvW and is not what it was meant to be. Taking keeps should be arduous and require the efforts of most of your server’s fighters (in that zone). It should be incredibly hard to take someone’s spawn keep and if you can do it it should because of pure effort.

They turned around and gave thousands of badges (with the achievement chests) to everyone, making an exclusive WvW thing now common for everyone.
At least it stopped the carebear posts about the JPs.

The WvW team seems to be finally communicating and has real changes in the works (thanks Devon and your team), but with a history of neglect and very little to show for this scramble, we’re going to continue to be skeptical until some concrete changes are made.

I just hope we see changes that actually enhance gameplay rather than ones that simply address complaints (see AC buff then nerf).

1. Better squad UI and options for commanders and squad members
2. Wxp account-wide and pay for reset of options (make it an expensive gold sink or even sell it for gems; but there is a need/wanting of this by a clear majority of players)
3. An alternative to the current match-up system (though it has been working “better” in recent weeks) that takes “recent” performance into greater consideration over their overall ranking. Formula usage, then a human “reality-checker” that keeps things in perspective.

I think CD has a lot more potential than they let on. You have a great NA presence (this is the first Friday where you haven’t hit like a tank (what happened?)) and pretty respectable SEA.

FA seems to benefit from having a few good WvW committed guilds that are large enough to get kinda zergy (after playing DB and TC so much, I won’t insult anyone by calling them full zergs).

I was more impressed with them in the past for their coordination and great scouting. After our first matchup (in forever), we have been trying to drill proper scouting with our folks, and it’s starting to payoff.

I’m glad to see that things are going a bit closer after a rough Friday and Saturday and that we are going to have a better match going forward.

I respectfully disagree with the contested WP idea. As much as a counter to blobbing as it would provide, it would still hand over great advantages to more populous servers.

A good example is DB. When facing CD and SoS last week they learned to split their groups very effectively, making BL defense essentially impossible for their outnumbered opponents.

I also think that in-game VoiP (or ANet managed VoiP) would necessitate added servers, support, and frequent downtime that would cause needless forum hate.

I love your idea for gem store purchases and think that ANet might want to dedicate one of their upcoming 2-week updates to be “THE WVW UPDATE” and include such items.

I like your idea for the additional map, but why not make it easier? Replace the Centaurs with the dredge, and beef up the difficulty of the NPCs in the skritt and dredge in those areas.

Now here is the brilliant part, make the influence account-bound (set to zero every week at reset, but kept all week for the match) so that it follows you map to map.

The point of this is that you can build up influence on your home map (but you have to balance defense as well), making it a difficult balancing act. That influence could then be spent on any BL map.

The brilliant part of this, is that it provides an excellent strategy for people to do on a map when outnumbered. Facing off-hours numbers, go farm the dredge and skritt; then save it for a lightning strike the following day.
It will allow small groups unprecedented mobility and ability to attack any location on any map.

This will encourage full participation at all hours, and we can stop all the whiny posts about limiting night-time scoring (though it’s funny watching self-centered NA folks embarass themselves).

Can we all take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief that an actual change to the map is in the works…I mean an actual change in topography!

Yeah, a bonus mechanic for more powerful servers is not necessarily a good thing; but if the orbquest if fun and innovative, I can forgive it.

Plus do not miss the fact that if they are changing the terrain in the BL’s, that new maps are probably not much further behind. The lake is already ~1/5 of the map, and the conceptual work on a new map is not hard. The grueling parts is balancing what they want to do with what they can do; and trying to keep some semblance of balance.

After the lake, I hope we see changes to the Skritt and Centaur areas as well. As someone suggested last week, they should at least make them mercenaries.

Don’t know what thread you’re reading mate but there has been no complaining from SOS’ers thus far. FA are fun to fight they don’t roll in map size zergs like DB

Except Chris who makes his weekly whine post (surprised he didn’t cry about failed 2v1’s this time), SoS as a whole are a respectable bunch. Oceanic/SEA prime time has been fun!

I said last week that I had given up on CD doing any 2v1. No sense in complaining about something that will never happen!

Speaking of no need for complaining, finally got some fights against FA that didn’t require immobilizes and speed buffs.

On top of that, CD is holding their ground well and we have a good 3-way match now.

I’m happy as can be now.

FA, you guys are disappointing. You think with your numbers you would want to mix it up a little, but the folks on SoSBL…we saw their backsides all night. I’ve never seen an entire server go all cowardly lion all at once like that.

CD had more cohones than you guys tonight by far.

I will say the multiple battles at inner Hills was fun in the first hour though. Some FA people wanted a fight (set our expectations so high, only to let us down later) and CD really wanted to keep it.

Seriously FA folks, were you wearing MF gear? We saw tougher mobs on Borlis Pass a few weeks ago. All you had tonight was numbers, and that isn’t impressive against the two of the smaller NA presences in the top 12.

Why do people keep using vabbi as an example?

Vabbi is mostly dead wvw server. It simply does not have much of a wvw population, no matter who you match it against, it gets stomped and stomped hard.

To fix it arenanet needs to merge the bottom 3 uk servers into 3 other uk servers. I think anet overestimated the number of uk players. Note that other language eu servers have populations and are all fighting. and on the us side even our bottom teir servers are putting up points in wvw. But in EU? The bottom two servers consistently fail to score significant points. Its time for them to be closed.

I don’t know if they need to be merged just because of WvW. If their PvE is also empty then they might have to look at the unpopular (but necessary) idea of closing those servers and granting free transfers to those on them.

If there are currently any SEA oceanic guilds considering a transfer to SoS, there are massive oppotunities for your guild here to expand and grow. We have a massive militia population for the oceanic and SEA timezones and many of them are looking for WvW focused guilds pm in game or on forums if you’re interested in learning more.

To add to what Rooster is saying, everyone says we have a lot of people on during SEA prime-time, but we have no WvW focused guilds during this timeslot. If you are a small to medium sized guild that operates at this time, you will find a lot of eager people who will want to work with you and are desperate for a solid group to rally around.

I see that #3 is facing #16 in EU.

The compression of rating in the EU section is not doing anyone any favors. Is the skill range really that close and competitive, or has this system completely hosed EU WvW?

I look forward to every reset with excitement, but I have to say we’ve only had maybe one competitive matchup (I’m on SoS) since this system began. Other than that one (thank you Maguuma), the matchup was decided when the system decided the teams.

I know that the tiered system is unkind to the 3rd place team. You look in any long term 3-way that is in place or even that was in place, and you’ll find a lot of buthurt on the 3rd server (completely justified).
However, this system doesn’t make it much better. The 3 way matchups make it highly unlikely that you’ll get the kind of matchups you want (typically no more than one higher and no less than two lower).

SoS had fun fighting DB, but the same can’t be said for CD. TC probably found SoR to be incredibly challenging, but probably wasn’t thrilled to be with BG at the same time (though they have taken this in stride).

FA vs JQ was bad enough, but Maguuma (as is their habit) wasn’t even able to put up much of a fight until the workweek began.

There have been some success stories, and there always are. GoM has proven much stronger than many thought. DH improved their lot greatly over this time as well. BP, SoS, and CD moved up a tier…and that’s about it.

So to recap, servers have seen fair improvement in rankings, and 2 imploded (EB is still pretty good, but much weaker than they were); and the rest are exactly where they were +/- 1 rank.

So the question to ask, is there any further benefit to a system that replaced 1 out of 3 servers having a rough week, to one that fluctuates 1/3 to 2/3 of servers having a bad week?

Oh give them some credit it’s only been 11 months, what can a development team really do in 11 months?

1 moderate sized lvl 80 area, multiple Halloween maps, 6 mini-event dungeons, One ultra-large sized meta event that lasted 3 hours, 2 holidays filled with content, 2 city sized explorable areas (that won’t be seen for at least another year), 3 new SPvP maps, ~18 major reworks of skills and traits.

Meanwhile in WvW:
They removed some consumables, they removed dolyak escort rewards, and they removed orbs.

They “fix” culling and introduce major graphical errors and unplayable lag.

They introduce Wxp, as a character bound trait. They miss an opportunity for a gold-sink (no refund-ability on WXP traits) and gem sales (no Wxp booster yet).

So to recap. PVE has had about 1 full expansion worth of free content. Even the much neglected SPvP has had 3 new maps.

WvW had a bunch of stuff removed, had a needed fix to the engine then turned around and broke it twice as much.
They raised server population caps to exacerbate WvW disparity; then added a random matchmaking component to guarantee that 1/3 of all servers would HATE WvW that particular week.

They introduce ONE form of progression rewards for WvW, that’s non-refundable, highly gimmicky and AGAIN, favors higher ranking WvW servers.

Meanwhile they have either promised or hinted at the following:
Rewards for dolyak escorts that were tweaked to not be exploitable (NOT DONE)

Return the orbs with new mechanics (NOT DONE)

New Maps (WE’RE LUCKY IF THEY SCRIBBLED SOMETHING ON A NAPKIN THAT THEY LATER USED WHILE EATING BBQ RIBS)

Exploits that have existed since game launch (coming up on the one year mark) have yet to be fixed.
We had a livestream by a dev who didn’t know how you put swords up on a tower.

The one good thing we have is that Devon Carver apparently takes time to read these. How much he can do about any of this remains to be seen; but hopefully he reads our discontent and is busy behind the scenes working on this.

He has ~8-10 months approx. before ESO comes out. He better be praying that they screw up their WvW-lookalike as much as they seem to be hosing PvE.

And I thought I was a “gloomy gus” about the near-term future of WvW.

The post referenced by the OP is obviously an extreme worst-case scenario.

I’m the first to say that I think this two week cycle is self-defeating. The “mayfly” population of gamers has long since left this game behind, (lord only knows where they went) and those that remain are not so ADHD that we will leave if we don’t have a new PvE zones.

I think people had different expectations for a “living world”. New events, changes to areas, new bosses.

I’d rather they stop “Living World” for 3 months and give us a new Elder Dragon Fight or a full size zone.

In regards to WvW; it is the format that keeps a large part of the population interested in this game. They kill it, they’ll lose so many players that it won’t be worth it.

What they can do, and to be honest it would be what I would do if I was being forced to increase PvE population and decrease PvP participation, would be to condense servers and decrease population caps.

This would do 2 things. It would create greater balance on the servers, and it would encourage people to roam more in PvE since there would always be a queue.

I’m not suggesting this as a solution that I prefer, mind you. However, this development plan seems tailor made to keep revenue flowing; not about pleasing the customer-base.

I am sorry sos and cd. I tried many times to tell our commanders not to wipe everything and give you a chance to play. But they keep on killing everything to a point there is nothing for DB at this time to do.
I am a bit sad that we have so many immature kids on our servers. When we win, we destroy our opponents. When we lose, we are totally disorganize, give up so easily, and half our “zerg force” does not show anyhow.

You can save your apologies, we’re all (ok, most of us) adults here. It’s absurd to expect any server to pull punches when they have the advantage; especially since the ranking system punishes you for not doing so.

I can’t speak for CD, but SoS is use to coverage gaps and we know it goes with the game. We’ll just do what we can with the numbers we have, when we can.

As I said near the beginning of this thread, the outcome of this match has never been in doubt; but we’ve had some awesome fights so far and hopefully we’ll have a few more before Friday.

Remember; Sea of Sorrows is frequently outnumbered, but never outmanned.

My personal perspective is that if you beat us into the ground this week, it decreases the likelihood that we get a repeat match up next week. If you don’t, your score drops and we’re more likely to face you again.

Which, no offense, isn’t really the most fun.

There is a line of respect for your opponents. Spawn camping the stairs on EB is typically bad form.

Spawn camping the North camp on the BL’s is typically more accepted since you are so close to the spawn that there is great possibility for a good fight or two.
Even that has a limit. Anything more than 2 AC/2 Ballista is just being rude.

Personally I’m waiting for a server in this situation to spawn camp with Omega Golems and no people on foot. If someone is willing to drop that much cash on a spawn camp, I wouldn’t even be angry.

SoS has a lot to offer anyone who has an interest in WvW. Whether you are a hardcore veteran, or new to the format; we have server-wide training available not just in group tactics, but also profession-based tactics and even commander workshops.

SoS’s WvW community is filled with a large number T1 veterans who have accepted the challenge of staying in a lower population server to learn how to fight and win while outnumbered.
There is no greater feeling than seeing a small knot of green names crash into a sea of red tags, and to see all the red tags start twinkling out; vanishing as defeated foes return to their spawn.

These kinds of fights happen once in a while on most servers. For us it’s an average night in SoS.

They hit a lot harder than their ranking suggests and are a monster on EBG. Everyone would like to see what they can do if they get some more coverage.

Graphics update 06/08 made WvW unplayable?

Here are some things I observed yesterday:

*One of the towers a large group of us were capping never appeared in front of us. We beat down an invisible gate on an invisible wall. The only thing that rendered was the far back wall. This affected about half of our group.

*One of our opponents was killed in front of the inner gate of our keep in EB. He did not respawn and his body remained on the stairs. Eventually, on the minimap, he showed up as an ally with the blue skull icon. (Not sure if related)

*After we captured a camp and all supplied, we moved away and got into a small skirmish. After about 15 seconds, I returned to the camp where many skill effects were all happening simultaneously in the center of the camp but there was no one actually in the camp.

*I can’t see any of the AoE fields on the ground (either friendly or opponent).

Just wanted to raise the visibility of this post since the poster is on ET, a very low population server. If T8 is having this problem, then it isn’t the same as the lag previously introduced in the last patch.

ArenaNet, please roll back this fix as it has obviously failed badly.

I’d prefer a return to culling given the last two “fixes” have done nothing but degrade performance to unacceptable levels.

I had a look a the SoS recruitment thread and the benefits seem too good to be true, what’s the catch?

The catch is that we are happy where we are and have no intention of going back to Tier 1.

That’s hard for a lot of folks who haven’t been number 1 and don’t understand how hollow that can be terms of getting quality WvW.

SoS has room for commanders who use voice and those who do not, as long as you are willing to type a lot and work with the other commanders; we’d love to have you.

That’s a pretty hard schedule to match, as it looks like you are playing in the late “EU” time frame most nights.

Any of the top 9 servers usually has at least a token EU force.

The question is, are you looking to make more of a difference or to run with a substantially sized group?

BG and SoR have the best known EU presences, but you have to deal with lag and possible exclusivity from some of those groups.

Maguuma has a large contingent kids out for the summer (or unemployed people, they never did confirm) so plenty of people there for now. SoS has a EU timeslot commander (see our recruitment ad) with a group if you want to really make a difference.

I don’t know what T2 has at those times but they seem to generally have people on during the EU time; just no idea if it’s really organized or not.

Double Axe Warriors?

Axe 4 is for fury maintenance and decent damage while axe 5 is adrenaline builder and zerg buster. Axe main hand is for raw damage and range cripple.

I personally prefer sword/axe, hammer. If you have a full adrenaline bar you can hit a pretty sick combo using axe 5. Earthshaker stun—swap to sword right away and you can pop flurry—-axe 5 to fill up adrenaline—-swap back to hammer and Earthshaker again.

Generally retaliation and knock downs keep you from doing the whole combo but it is so sweet when you finish the chain. One of the main reasons I use axe offhand.

I typically run that as well because the CC makes great synergy in a large scrap. However, those axe specific traits can do some good things if you spec purely into it. Not a bad idea if you want to roam as a warrior.

Warriors have multiple axe related traits, particularly in regards to getting very high crit % and damage. Engage stability and press 5, watch lots of numbers.

Very close, but it doesn’t even have to be a tier, just one spot. I’ve seen people on DB complain about TC zerging, and then I’m sure FA has said things about you guys; and so on.

Just about everyone zergs about the same level(s) T3-T5 (at times). CD can get away with saying they don’t zerg as much though, give them credit there.

But I digress. My point was simply this: killing you is fun because of all the trash talk you did about us. Whether 1v1 or 6v1. The fact that you’re complaining about us killing you 6v1…well that makes it even sweeter.

Your hubby was talking about his enthusiasm for the 1v1, so I wondered why no one in your group is in for it.

All you do is pick off stragglers and flip camps so I would think you were looking for unique fights.
Whatever makes you guys happy I guess what’s important. I won’t pretend to understand it, but since your group is dedicated to it I guess I can try and respect that.

I don’t sweat it anymore, as I said I typically run in a group and haven’t seen you guys for a while.

Just once, I’d like when I come across Jakob’s crew when I’m by myself; I’d like them to make it a one on one rather than a team gank. You’d probably win since I’m usually traited for group tactics, but I like the occasional 1v1.

Eviator, are you a necro? I had a good 1v1 with a rB necro this weekend and just after I eek’d out and downed him, his buddies (non-rB) showed up and ruined it.

No offense but you’ve trashed talked us A LOT in the past. Don’t think we don’t know your tag and don’t think we aren’t out for blood when we see you.

That being said, several of our guys are happy to have some duels from time to time. If that’s something you really want then I’d suggest PM’ing someone about it when you’re online to see if anyone has any interest.

Yeah, because I don’t see how doing 6v1’s is fun for anyone. Seriously though, surround a guy, and make him fight each one of you 1v1 until either he’s earned his escape or is downed. If he runs, take him out or if he brings friends, yeah take them out quickly.

I got to give credit to those rB guys. They were doing the same thing you were, only they were up for a fight all the time. They just didn’t give a rip and would take you on if you were 2 people or a full 15.

Shoutout to GoM on the worst matchup of the week; with Maguuma getting an honorable mention.

Yaks Bend vs Kaineng vs Gate of Madness has to be THE MOST BALANCED match up I’ve seen in these last few months. And the scores prove it. Grats to you three servers for getting an epic fight this week!

Just wish we (Sea of Sorrows) could get both Fort Aspenwood and Maguuma for once, and many weeks after, it would be a lovely fight.

Yeah, I think Maguuma as a whole could understand that 7 and 8 should gun for 6th and that would be a good matchup. FA has lost some numbers but still have superior numbers to SoS and Maguuma but not enough that both couldn’t lay some hurt on and make it a close match.
Maguuma would have the most to gain from this matchup since FA is the only non-T1 server with a large Oceanic presence so Mag’s “unemployment zerg” would make things interesting.

Siegerazer was a great development and the introduction of WXP and trait lines to go with that were great things.

However, everything else since launch has been fixing of design flaws or minor tweaks to existing game mechanics.

What I think everyone would like to see is new maps, with a greater emphasis on changing the terrain rather than sitting in towers with defensive siege.
What if you can take out bridges or block routes with land slides? What if, instead of going to guard camps, the quaggans make the waterways impassible with massive numbers?

Those are the things I am hoping they are exploring.

Also to answer the OP’s question; yes, I think disposable content every 2 weeks is not helping anyone. It seems I never have enough time to do this content unless I fixate on it and it’s thrown out like week old garbage when it’s done. Has anyone gained anything truly valuable from any of this?

BTW, shoutout to VH and how nice it is to have another WvW interested group on SoS. It’s been ages since we’ve been able to field two effective groups in the same BL. Thanks for quite a few panic button responses and saving the day.

Already with the cynicism, Chris? Nice to you see you again. We will not go down without a fight.

I know I’ve said some unkind things about CD in the past, but ever since you gave us such a good fight the last time we got the band back together with SBI; I don’t have anything bad to say about you guys anymore.

You’re a solid T3 server and we have had some great fights over the last few months.

The only big regret about this match is that we are too busy with DB to really spend anytime fighting each other.
The crack about no 2v1 is because you guys do your own thing and typically don’t go in on any cohesive strategy. I see our folks have had a lot of back and forth in EB but getting any kind of coordination on EB is always a disaster.

Anyhow, gl the rest of the week.
